Steel fiber reinforced high-strength concrete (SFRHSC) is a composite material composed of cement, coarse aggregate, and randomly distributed short steel fibers. The excellent tensile strength of steel fiber can significantly improve the crack resistance and ductility of high-strength concrete (HSC). In this study, experimental and numerical investigations were performed to study the cyclic behavior of the HSC beam-column joint. Three SFRHSC and one HSC beam-column joint were prepared and tested under cyclic load. Two different volume ratios of steel fibers and three stirrups ratios in the joint core area were experimentally studied. After verification of the experimental results, numerical simulations were further carried out to investigate the influence of steel fibers volume ratio and stirrups ratio in the joint core area on the seismic performance. Evaluation of the hysteretic response, ductility, energy dissipation, stiffness, and strength degradation were the main aims of this study. Results indicate that the optimal volume fraction of steel fibers is 1.5%, and the optimal stirrups ratio in the joint core area is 0.9% in terms of the enhancement of the seismic performance of the SFRHSC beam-column joint. Low carbon and high performance have become key trends in the development of construction materials. Understanding the mechanism by which curing conditions affect the mechanical properties of high-ductility geopolymer concrete (HDGC) is of significant importance. This study investigated three sealing curing temperatures (room temperature, 45 °C, and 60 °C) and four curing durations (1 day, 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days), while considering two final curing ages (7 days and 28 days) to explore their effects on the axial tensile and compressive properties of HDGC. The results showed that both 45 °C and 60 °C could improve the brittle failure of HDGC under axial compressive loading. However, curing at 60 °C and for durations longer than 1 day in an oven would catalyze the formation of eight-faced zeolite crystals within the slag–fly ash geopolymer matrix, and it could weaken the matrix's pore structure and subsequently affect the material's later strength development. Nevertheless, oven heat curing enhanced the bridging effect between the fibers and the matrix, partially compensating for the reduction in the initial tensile strength of HDGC. This follows the pseudo-strain-hardening material's saturation cracking criterion to enhance the strain-hardening behavior of HDGC and improve its tensile energy absorption capacity. A curing condition of 45 °C for 5 days is recommended to maximize the ductility of HDGC. Due to its lightweight, high strength, good machinability, and low cost, aluminum alloy has been widely used in fields such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, and construction. Traditional manufacturing processes for aluminum alloys often suffer from low material utilization, complex procedures, and long manufacturing cycles. Therefore, more and more scholars are turning their attention to the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process for aluminum alloys, which has the advantages of high material utilization, good formability for complex structures, and short manufacturing cycles. However, the widespread promotion and application of LPBF aluminum alloys still face challenges. The excellent printable ability, favorable mechanical performance, and low manufacturing cost are the main factors affecting the applicability of the LPBF process for aluminum alloys. This paper reviews the research status of traditional aluminum alloy processing and LPBF aluminum alloy and makes a comparison from various aspects such as microstructures, mechanical properties, application scenarios, and manufacturing costs. At present, the LPBF manufacturing cost for aluminum alloys is 2–120 times higher than that of traditional manufacturing methods, with the discrepancy depending on the complexity of the part. Therefore, it is necessary to promote the further development and application of aluminum alloy 3D printing technology from three aspects: the development of aluminum matrix composite materials reinforced with nanoceramic particles, the development of micro-alloyed aluminum alloy powders specially designed for LPBF, and the development of new technologies and equipment to reduce the manufacturing cost of LPBF aluminum alloy. This paper presents the results of research on the microstructure, mechanical, and tribological properties of Cu/0.5 wt.% MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotube) sintered composite materials produced by powder metallurgy. The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of carbon nanotube modifications on the uniformity of their dispersion and the effectiveness of their bonding with the matrix. The MWCNTs were modified by chemical oxidation. Additionally, a modification of the ingredient mixing method utilizing ultrasonic frequencies was employed. The tests were carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Vickers hardness tests, static compression tests, and wear tests using the pin-on-disc method. Furthermore, mechanical properties and strain distribution analyses of the micro-specimens were conducted using the Micro-Fatigue System (MFS). The implemented modifications had a positive effect on the dispersion of MWCNTs in the copper matrix and on the mechanical and tribological properties of the sinters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Engineering applications for honeycomb sandwich structures (HSS) are well recognized. Heterogeneous structures have been created using polyetheretherketone (PEEK) material, glass fiber-reinforced PEEK (GF-PEEK), and carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK (CF-PEEK) to further enhance the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, and impact resistance of HSS. In this study, we investigated the low-velocity impact response of HSS using numerical simulation. Our findings demonstrate that the choice of construction material significantly affects the impact resistance and structural stability of the HSS. We found that using fiber-reinforced PEEK significantly enhances the impact resistance of the overall structure, with GF-PEEK identified as the more appropriate face sheet material for the composite HSS based on a comparative study of load–displacement curves. Analysis of the plastic deformation of the honeycomb core, in combination with the stress and strain distribution of the composite HSS after low-velocity impact, indicates that CF-PEEK face sheets cause more noticeable damage to the core, resulting in evident plastic deformation. Additionally, we discovered that the use of fiber-reinforced materials effectively reduces deflection during low-velocity dynamic impact, particularly when both the face sheet and honeycomb core of the HSS are composed of the same fiber-reinforced PEEK material. This paper discusses the challenges in using natural fibers for the development of textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) composites with pseudo-strain-hardening and multiple cracking behavior. The particular characteristics of natural vegetal fibers are analyzed with reference to data from the literature. It is concluded that the efficient use of these fibers as composite reinforcement requires the development of treatment or impregnation protocols for overcoming durability issues, eliminating crimping effects in tensile response and imparting dimensional stability. Relevant experimental research on the synthesis and performance of natural TRMs is reviewed, showing that the fabrication of such systems is, at present, largely based on empirical rather than engineering design. In order to set a framework regarding the properties that the constituents of natural TRM must meet, a comparative analysis is performed against inorganic matrix composites comprising synthetic, mineral and metallic reinforcement. This highlights the need for selecting matrix materials compatible with natural fibers in terms of stiffness and strength. Furthermore, a rational methodology for the theoretical design of natural TRM composites is proposed. First-order analysis tools based on rule-of-mixtures and fracture mechanics concepts are considered. Based on the findings of this study, paths for future research are discussed. Inspired by nature, materials scientists have been exploring and designing various biomimetic materials. Among them, composite materials with brick-and-mortar-like structure synthesized from organic and inorganic materials (BMOIs) have attracted increasing attention from scholars. These materials have the advantages of high strength, excellent flame retardancy, and good designability, which can meet the requirements of various fields for materials and have extremely high research value. Despite the increasing interest in and applications of this type of structural material, there is still a dearth of comprehensive reviews, leaving the scientific community with a limited understanding of its properties and applications. In this paper, we review the preparation, interface interaction, and research progress of BMOIs, and propose possible future development directions for this class of materials. This article considers the prospects of the application of building structures made of polymer concrete composites on the basis of strength analysis. The issues of application and structure of polymer-concrete mixtures are considered. Features of the stress-strain state of normal sections of polymer concrete beams are revealed. The dependence between the stresses and relative deformations of rubber polymer concretes and beams containing reinforcement frame and fiber reinforcement has been determined. The main direction of the study was the choice of ways to increase the strength characteristics of concrete with the addition of a polymer base and to increase the reliability of structures in general. The paper presents the results of experimental and mathematical studies of the stress-strain state and strength, as well as deflections of reinforced rubber-polymer beams. The peculiarities of fracture of reinforced rubber-polymer beams along their sections have been revealed according to the results of the experiment. The peculiarities of fracture formation of reinforced rubber-polymer beams have also been revealed. The conducted work has shown that the share of longitudinal reinforcement and the height of the fibrous reinforcement zone are the main factors. These reasons determine the characteristics of the strength of the beams and their resistance to destructive influences. The importance and scientific novelty of the work are the identified features of the stress-strain state of normal sections of rubber-concrete beams, namely, it has been established that the ultimate strength in axial compression and tension, deformations corresponding to the ultimate strength for rubber concrete exceed similar parameters for cement concrete 2.5–6.5 times. The prediction of damage and failure to fiber-reinforced polymer composites in extreme environments, particularly when subjected to impact loading, is a crucial issue for the application and design of protective structures. In this paper, based on the prototype microelastic brittle (PMB) model and the LaRC05 composite materials failure model, we proposed a bond-based peridynamic (BB-PD) model with the introduction of plastic hardening of the resin matrix for fiber-reinforced polymer composites. The PD constitutive relationships of the matrix bond and interlayer bond under compressive loading are considered to include two stages of linear elasticity and plastic hardening, according to the stress–strain relationship of the resin matrix in the LaRC05 failure model. The proposed PD model is employed to simulate the damage behaviors of laminated composites subjected to impact loading. The corresponding ballistic impact tests of composite laminates were carried out to observe their damage behaviors. The PD prediction results are in good agreement with the ballistic experimental results, which can verify the correctness and accuracy of the PD model developed in this study in describing the impact damage behaviors of composite materials. In addition, the characteristics and degree of damage in composite laminates are analyzed and discussed based on this PD model. A multiparameter approach is preferred while utilizing Acoustic Emission (AE) technique for mechanical characterization of composite materials. It is essential to utilize a statistical parameter, which is independent of the sensor characteristics, for this purpose. Thus, a new information–theoretics parameter, Lempel–Ziv (LZ) complexity, is used in this research work for mechanical characterization of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) composites. CFRP specimens in plain weave fabric configurations were tested and the acoustic activity during the loading was recorded. The AE signals were classified based on their peak amplitudes, counts, and LZ complexity indices using k-means++ data clustering algorithm. The clustered data were compared with the mechanical results of the tensile tests on CFRP specimens. The results show that the clustered data are capable of identifying critical regions of failure. The LZ complexity indices of the AE signal can be used as an AE descriptor for mechanical characterization. This is validated by studying the clustered signals in their time–frequency domain using wavelet transform. Finally, a neural network framework based on SqueezeNet was trained using the wavelet scalograms for a quantitative validation of the data clustering approach proposed in this research work. The results show that the proposed method functions at an efficiency of more than 85% for three out of four clustered data. Polycarbonate-based nanocomposites were developed herein through a material extrusion (MEX) additive manufacturing (AM) process. The fabrication of the final nanocomposite specimens was achieved by implementing the fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printing process. The impact of aluminum nitride (AlN) nanoparticles on the thermal and mechanical behavior of the polycarbonate (PC) matrix was investigated thoroughly for the fabricated nanocomposites, carrying out a range of thermomechanical tests. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) provided information about the morphological and surface characteristics of the produced specimens. Using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), the elemental composition of the nanocomposite materials was validated. Raman spectroscopy revealed no chemical interactions between the two material phases. The results showed the reinforcement of most mechanical properties with the addition of the AlN nanoparticles. The nanocomposite with 2 wt.% filler concentration exhibited the best mechanical performance overall, with the highest improvements observed for the tensile strength and toughness of the fabricated specimens, with a percentage of 32.8% and 51.6%, respectively, compared with the pure polymer. The successful AM of PC/AlN nanocomposites with the MEX process is a new paradigm, which expands 3D printing technology and opens a new route for the development of nanocomposite materials with multifunctional properties for industrial applications. Low weight and high strength are significant factors in the current decade's spread of composite sandwich materials. Previous studies have proven that forming stiffening ribs in these materials through the Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) process is possible and gives encouraging results. On the other hand, knowledge of residual stress (RS) values that form during the manufacturing process is essential, as they may affect the structural integrity of manufactured elements, whether in compression or tension. The investigation of the RS in the composite materials formed by the SPIF process using the XRD method was very limited in the previous studies, so this research aims to apply the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method to determine RS on the part of the LITECOR® sandwich material formed using SPIF. LITECOR® consists of a plastic core between two layers of steel. In this study, three types of LITECOR® were used with differing plastic core thicknesses of 0.8, 1.25, and 1.6 mm, while the steel layers' thickness remained the same at 0.3 mm. The axial and traverse RSs were measured in five positions on both sides of the formed part. It was found that the achieved RSs varied from tensile to compressive along the formed regions. It was found that the residual stress values in both directions were inversely proportional to the thickness of the plastic core. It was noted that the highest RS values were in the unformed base metal, after which the RS was reduced on both sides of the SPIF-formed region, followed by a rise in the RS at the concave of the SPIF-formed region. The maximum measured RS for X-axes was 1041 MPa, whereas, for Y-axes, it was 1260 MPa, both of which were recorded on the back side at a thickness of t = 0.8 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate and compare two different fiber-reinforced composite materials in class I post-endodontic restoration in molars. A total of 50 patients were randomly assigned into two groups (n = 25 for each group); group A: everX Posterior (packable composite) with a top layer of solareX (nano-hybrid composite) and group B: everX Flow (flowable composite) with a top layer of G-aenial universal injectable (flowable composite). Patients were evaluated immediately after the procedure (baseline), at 6 months, and at 1 year time intervals based on the modified USPHS criteria. The statistical analysis using a chi-square test showed no statistically significant difference in the clinical performance of group A and group B. Clinical performance of the combination of everX Flow with overlying G-aenial universal injectable composite proved to be comparable with everX Posterior with overlying solareX composite as post-endodontic restorations in class I lesions in permanent molars. This review article focuses on the aluminum-based metal matrix composites (Al-based MMCs). Studies or investigations of their mechanical and tribological properties performed by researchers worldwide in the past are presented in detail. The processing techniques and applications for Al-based MMCs are also documented here. A brief background on the composite materials, their constituents, and their classification, as well as the different matrix materials and particulates used in Al-based MMCs, can be found in this review. Then, an overview of dual-particle-size reinforced composites, heat treatment of Al alloys, and temper designations used in heat treatment are also included. In addition, the factors influencing the mechanical and wear properties of Al-based MMCs are discussed. The primary objective is that both present and future researchers and investigators will be assisted by the comprehensive knowledge compiled in this article to further explore and work towards the betterment of society in general. In this paper, a 2D mesoscale finite element (FE) numerical model of mortar, considering the influence of the ITZ, was proposed to evaluate the corrosion of mortar in sodium sulfate. On the mesoscale, the corroded mortar was regarded as a three-phase composite material composed of sand, cement paste, and an interface transition zone (ITZ). Firstly, the volume fractions and mechanical parameters (elastic modulus, Poisson's ratio, and strength) of the mesoscale phases were obtained. Then, the cement paste and the ITZ were combined to form an equivalent matrix by homogenization methods, and the calibrated constitutive relations of the equivalent matrix were established. Subsequently, a two-dimensional (2D) random circular aggregate (RCA) model and a 2D random polygonal aggregate (RPA) model of corroded mortar were established using the random aggregate model. The failure process of corroded mortar specimens under uniaxial compression was simulated by the mesoscale FE numerical model. Comparing the simulation results with the measured stress–strain curves of the uniaxial compression test, it was found that the simulation results of the 2D RP model were closer to the experimental results than those of the 2D RC model. Meanwhile, the numerical simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results, and the error values of peak stress between the simulation results and the measured results were within 7%, which showed that the 2D mesoscale FE model could accurately predict the results of a uniaxial compression test of a mortar specimen under sulfate attack. This paper presents the static mechanical behavior and the dynamic thermomechanical properties of four market-available reinforced and non-reinforced thermoplastics and photopolymer materials used as precursors in different additive manufacturing technologies. This article proposes a characterization approach to further address development of aeronautic secondary structures via 3D-printed composite materials replacing conventional manufactured carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. Different 3D printing materials, technologies, printing directions, and parameters were investigated. Experimental results showed that carbon-reinforced ONYX_R material exhibits a transition point at 114 °C, a 600 MPa tensile strength, and an average tensile strain of 2.5%, comparable with conventional CFRP composites manufactured via autoclave, making it a suitable candidate for replacing CFRP composites, in the aim of taking advantage of 3D printing technologies. ONYX material exhibits higher stiffness than Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Copolymer (ABS), or conventional Nylon 6/6 polyamide, the flexural modulus being 2.5 GPa; nevertheless, the 27 °C determined transition temperature limits its stability at higher temperature. Daylight High Tensile (further called HTS) resin exhibits a tensile strength and strain increase when shifting the printing direction from transversal to longitudinal, while no effect was observed in HighTemp DL400 resin (further called HTP). Due to the increasing use of the different composite materials in lightweight applications, such as in aerospace, it becomes crucial to understand the different damages occurring within them during life cycle and their possible inspection with different inspection techniques in different life cycle stages. A comprehensive classification of these damage patterns, measuring signals, and analysis methods using a taxonomical approach can help in this direction. In conjunction with the taxonomy, this work addresses damage diagnostics in hybrid and composite materials, such as fibre metal laminates (FMLs). A novel unified taxonomy atlas of damage patterns, measuring signals, and analysis methods is introduced. Analysis methods based on advanced supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms, such as autoencoders, self-organising maps, and convolutional neural networks, and a novel z-profiling method, are implemented. Besides formal aspects, an extended use case demonstrating damage identification in FML plates using X-ray computer tomography (X-ray CT) data is used to elaborate different data analysis techniques to amplify or detect damages and to show challenges. Fibre-reinforced polymer materials (FRP) are increasingly used to reinforce structural elements. Due to this, it is possible to increase the load-bearing capacity of polymer, wooden, concrete, and metal structures. In this article, the authors collected all the crucial aspects that influence the behaviour of concrete elements reinforced with FRP. The main types of FRP, their characterization, and their impact on the load-carrying capacity of a composite structure are discussed. The most significant aspects, such as type, number of FRP layers including fibre orientation, type of matrix, reinforcement of concrete columns, preparation of a concrete surface, fire-resistance aspects, recommended conditions for the lamination process, FRP laying methods, and design aspects were considered. Attention and special emphasis were focused on the description of the current research results related to various types of concrete reinforced with FRP composites. Aiming at the problems of poor bonding between the carbon fiber and the metal matrix and the friction and wear performance of the composite material during the preparation of carbon fiber reinforced zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composites, the carbon fiber surface metallization process was studied. Taking ZA27 as the research object, a new type of zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composite material was prepared by using surface metallized chopped carbon fibers with different contents as reinforcement materials. The microscopic morphology, element distribution and phase composition of the surface metallized carbon fiber and composite materials were characterized, and the hardness and friction and wear properties of the composite materials were tested. The results show that: the surface metallization of carbon fiber effectively reduces the diffusion of carbon elements into the matrix material during the sintering process, and improves the interface bonding between the carbon fiber and the matrix material; Compared with ZA27 alloy, the hardness of 6vt% carbon fiber is increased by 29.6%, and the average friction coefficient and wear rate are reduced by about 18.4% and 96%, respectively, indicating that the carbon fiber reinforced zinc-based aluminum rich alloy composite material optimizes the friction and wear performance of traditional materials. Composite materials are used in many industries. They are construction materials that are being used more and more often, which makes it necessary to accurately identify the process of their destruction. Recent decades have resulted in an intensive increase in diagnostic tests of structures and mechanical elements. Non-destructive testing (NDT) represents a group of test methods (surface and volumetric) that provide information about the properties of the tested element without changing its structure. The method of acoustic emission (AE) is also being used more frequently. Thanks to the ability to detect and locate signal sources, as well as to perform tests during operation, it is a method that is increasingly used in industry. In this article, the acoustic emission was used to analyze the changes occurring in composite materials. Obtained parameters helped to determine the signals originating from fibre delamination, fibre cracking, etc., as well as the starting point of these changes and the stress values at which these changes occurred. The analysis of acoustic emission signals recorded during the tests helped to determine the values of amplitudes characteristic for the destruction mechanisms of considered composite materials. Signals with an amplitude in the range of 30–41 dB may indicate elastic–plastic deformation of the matrix. Signals with an amplitude in the range of 42–50 dB indicate matrix cracks with the accompanying phenomenon of fibre delamination. Signals with amplitudes greater than 50 dB indicate fibre breakage. Based on the test results, the permissible stress was determined; when exceeded, the mechanisms of damage to the structure of composite materials accumulate. This stress limit for the tested material is 70 MPa. The use of the acoustic emission method in mechanical tests may contribute to a greater knowledge of composite materials used as a construction material, as well as determine the stresses allowable for a given structure. Friction Stir Processing (FSP) was used to fabricate metal matrix composite, based on steel and reinforced with nano-sized yttrium oxide powder. The powder was packed in a narrow longitudinal groove of 2 mm depth and 1 mm width cut in the steel plate's rear surface. Different rotation speeds of 500–1500 rpm were used, at a fixed traveling speed of 50 mm·min−1. Single-pass and two passes, with the same conditions, were applied. The direction of the second pass was opposite to that of the first pass. After the first pass, complete nugget zones were obtained when the rotation speeds were more than 700 rpm with some particles agglomeration. The added particles showed as narrow elliptical bands, with a band pitch equal to the rotation speed over traveling speed. Performing the second FSP pass in the opposite direction resulted in better particles distributions. Almost defect-free composite materials, with homogenously distributed yttria nano-sized particles, were obtained after two passes when rotation speeds more than 700 rpm were used. The resulting steel matrix grains were refined from ~60 μm of the base metal to less than 3 μm of the processed nugget zone matrix. The hardness and the tensile strength of the fabricated materials improved almost two-fold over the base metal. Uniform microhardness values within the nugget areas were observed at higher rotational speeds. The ductility and toughness of the fabricated composites were reduced compared to the base metal. Hybrid aluminium metal matrix composites have the potential to replace single reinforced aluminium metal matrix composites due to improved properties. Moreover, tribological performance is critical for these composites, as they have extensive application areas, such as the automotive, aerospace, marine and defence industries. The present work aims to establish the tribological characteristics of Al7068/Si3N4/BN hybrid metal matrix composites prepared by stir casting route and studied using a pin-on-disc apparatus under dry sliding conditions. The hybrid composite samples were prepared at various weight percentages (0, 5, 10) of Si3N4 and BN particles. To investigate the tribological performance of the prepared composites, the wear experiments were conducted by varying the load (20, 40 and 60 N), sliding velocity (1.5, 2.5 and 3.5 m/s) and sliding distance (500, 1000 and 1500 m). Wear experimental runs were carried out based on the plan of experiments proposed by Taguchi. The minimum wear rate was found with the composite material reinforced with 10 wt. % of Si3N4 and 5 wt. % of BN. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to analyse the effect of process parameters on wear rate and coefficient of friction (COF). The ANOVA test revealed that the weight fraction of Si3N4 has more of a contribution percentage (36.60%) on wear rate, and load has more of a contribution percentage (29.73%) on COF. The growing demand for composite materials with improved properties is attracting a lot of attention from industries such as automotive, aerospace, military, aviation, and other manufacturing. Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs), with various reinforcements such as continuous/discontinuous fibers, whiskers, and particulates, have captured the attention due to their superior tribological, mechanical, and microstructural characteristics as compared to bare Al alloy. AMMCs have undergone extensive research and development with different reinforcements in order to obtain the materials with the desired characteristics. In this paper, we present a review on AMMCs produced through stir casting routes. This review focuses on the following aspects: (i) different reinforcing materials in AMMCs; (ii) microstructural study of reinforced metal matrix composites (MMCs) through stir casting. Both reinforcing micro- and nanoparticles are focused. Micro- and nanoreinforced AMMCs have the attractive properties of combination such asthe low-weight-to-high-strength rati and, low density; (iii) various tribological and mechanical properties with the consideration of different input parameters; (iv) outlook and perspective. In today's developing aircraft and automotive industry, extremely durable and wear-resistant materials, especially in high temperatures, are applied. Due to this practical approach, conventional materials have been superseded by composite materials. In recent years, the application of metal matrix composites has become evident in industry 4.0. A study has been performed to analyze the surface roughness of aluminum matrix composites named Duralcan® during end milling. Two roughness surface parameters have been selected: arithmetical mean roughness value Ra and mean roughness depth Rz regarding the variable cutting speed. Due to the classification of aluminum matrix composites as hard-to-cut materials concerning excessive tool wear, this paper describes the possibility of surface roughness prediction using machine learning algorithms. In order to find the best algorithm, Classification and Regression Tree (CART) and pattern recognition models based on artificial neural networks (ANN) have been compared. By following the obtained models, the experiment shows the effectiveness of roughness prediction based on verification models. Based on experimental research, the authors obtained the coefficient R2 for the CART model 0.91 and the mean square error for the model ANN 0.11. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
