The construction industry has a huge contribution to economic growth in the world, including Indonesia. Massive urban development occurs as a result of significant population growth. Along with the rapid development, safety issue in the construction site is often neglected. In 2017, there were found that more than 123 thousand cases of construction site accidents have happened. This numbers has increased by almost 20% compared with the number of accidents in 2016. The purpose of this study is to identify significant safety indicators affecting the construction project in Tangerang Selatan. Based on the literature review, a list of 22 safety indicators was produced. These indicators were used in the questionnaire. The main contribution of this paper is providing safety indicators ranking that affects construction work around Tangerang Selatan. The subject of this research includes contractor and consultant experts who work in construction project around Tangerang Selatan. From the survey, we obtained 41 valid responses which then were analyzed using FAII. As a result, we found that the indicator “the company provides safety training for each worker to act safely” has been considered as the most important safety indicator. It is followed by “the contractor always provides PPE such as helmets, boots, gloves, masks, and other tools that can get me out of an accident”. Then the third result is “there are safeguards on the project site; safety signs, fire extinguishers, and security fences”.

The work is devoted to the study of changes in the time of mobility of concrete mixtures, which are used for commercial concrete with monolithic construction. The in-situ concrete quality depends on the uniformity, viability and workability of the concrete mix intended for the transportation, unloading and workability at the construction site. One of the techniques used for the solution of this problem can be step-by-step addition of chemical admixtures or introduction of setting retarders whose efficiency is expressed in an increased resiliency of the concrete mix that is extended by two and more hours. Each solution has its advantages and drawbacks; therefore the efficiency can only be estimated under specific conditions taking into account the cost of concrete mix and opportunities for the realization of each individual solution. Were received results showing the presence of a problem of mobility loss of concrete mixtures with chemical additives of high water-reducing action. The use of such technological techniques as increasing the initial mobility and gradual introduction of supplements to superplasticizer proved to be effective technological solutions.

Construction Supply chain management comprised of the network of organization involved in the different processes and activities which produce the material, components and services that come together to design, procurement and deliver a building. It also consists of different organizations involved in the construction process including client/owner, designer, contractor, subcontractor and suppliers. This paper shall present on the implementation of supply chain management in construction and the effectiveness of practicing SCM in construction site. A field study is done from the viewpoint of contractor and consultant then analysed by using average index methods and presented in a statistical analysis. From the analysis, it reveals that effectiveness of practicing the SCM give a lot of good performances and granted benefits to contractor. The statistical analysis produced first ranking effectiveness of SCM is can minimize waste of material and labor for construction project.

Necessity of construction automation through BIM framework could no longer be set aside if we were to remain relevant and con-current in the ever-changing, technology-driven construction practices. The functions of construction safety management, i.e., hazard identification, assessment and control for construction works could certainly benefit from this technology through safety work automation which enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of the required safety processes. This paper aims to outline a research project for developing both information and technical requirements for BIM-based system via literature review, questionnaire survey, focus group, and prototype realization. The project results, to be validated by real projects, will act as solid platform for developing working model that can be employed at various project settings and safety circumstances. It will support the decision-making process with respect to safety enhancement and accident mitigation at the construction site.

According to the fact that the traditional manual management method can not solve the problem of frequent accidents in the engineering construction process, the integrated scheme of safety prevention based on BIM and RFID is put forward, and the principle and technical feasibility of the integrated scheme are analyzed. Based on the integration technology scheme, the multi-layer architecture design pattern is adopted, and the software hierarchy of the integration system is designed in detail. On this basis, the integrated application network for engineering construction safety control is analyzed and designed by using the technology based on BIM and RFID. The research results of this paper provide a feasible technical reference scheme for the automatic identification and dynamic monitoring and early warning of the hidden dangers in the construction site.

Construction safety monitoring is an important approach to prevent collapse of scaffold shoring system during concrete formwork. In this article, the causes of the collapse of scaffold shoring system are investigated. A monitoring system based on the Internet of Things(IoT) is then proposed, consisting of wireless sensors, wireless monitor, wireless alarm, monitoring cloud platform and mobile client. The monitoring system is then put into practical application and has successfully detected the malfunction of the monitored system, which proves the efficiency and reliability of the monitoring system.

The advancement of computer technology allows the construction education to exploit the various teaching strategies. Unlike other engineering subjects, teaching construction subjects often requires media beyond traditional class room environment that would enable the creation of field-like construction atmosphere. Construction visualization allows students to exercise and experience various field settings that are too difficult to deliver using traditional teaching approach. This paper aims at describing an attempt to develop and implement building information modelling (BIM) as a platform for teaching construction safety. Using BIM technology students can learn various aspects of safety in construction, which are typically hidden from project documents. Visualization features in BIM are utilized by students to help them identifying potential hazard, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions in a simulated construction project. The result shows that students are more aware and capable to identify any potential hazard and related safety regulations of construction plan and design pertinent to specific site conditions than that if they were only equipped with a set of construction drawings and specifications.

BIM is continuously changing the way construction can be approached, from design, scheduling, costing to facilities management. However, even though construction safety is a worldwide issue, and though previous, yet limited, studies have proven its great potential, BIM has not been extended to include automated construction safety management functions, i.e., hazard identification, assessment and control for construction works. In fact, as many as 71% of safety incidents can be prevented by safety considerations at design stage. Automation via BIM is the key to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of safety management, but development of Safety Information Modelling (SIM) is the key pre-requisite. This paper aims to outline a research project for developing both information and technical requirements for SIM via questionnaire survey, focus group, and real case studies. The project results, to be validated by real projects, will act as solid platform for developing:- i) Practical guidance to construction and safety professionals on the types of safety management a SIM can conduct, and the ways of utilizing the safety information in a SIM model [based on the systematic SIM information requirements (e.g., object identification, geometry attributes, safety rules)]; and ii) Overall guidance to software developers to develop appropriate SIM tools for different scenarios [based on the systematic SIM technical requirements (e.g., model information exchange, visualization, conflict analysis process for risk assessment, reliability)].

Underground development project activities for structures located below existing level of groundwater can cause changes in hydro-geological conditions on the construction site and adjacent territories and lead to development of unfavourable engineering-geological processes. Article presents results of hydrogeological forecast at the construction site with foundation pit enclosed in diaphragm wall. To recreate existing hydrogeological conditions and to create accurate model, inverse problem was solved with a multivariate selection of the filtration parameters of the modeled system in such way that there was a satisfactory alignment of modeled groundwater levels and groundwater levels marked during well-drilling, and analytical data, acquired during analysis and compilation of existing hydrogeological data. Upon solution of inverse problem to replicate existing hydrogeological conditions on the model, a series of forecasting tasks was undertaken to assess the impact of planned construction on hydrogeological situation of the construction site and adjacent territories. Construction was modelled in a multi-variant setting for a completely impermeable diaphragm wall and a permeable diaphragm wall with coefficient of filtration of 0.005 m/day. It is advisable to provide a comprehensive hydrogeological and geotechnical forecast at the design stage as it helps to predict how changes in hydrogeological regime affect deformation behaviour of surrounding buildings.

Three dimensional printing is a promising new technology to erect construction objects. Around the world in every moment a new prototypes constructions are made by using this method. Three dimensional printing is taken into account as technology which can be used to print constructions in automated way on the Moon or Mars. The raw materials, which can be used with three dimensional printing have to fulfil basic requirements for those which are used in construction. That means that components of printing mortars are made from ingredients easily accessible in area nearby construction site and can be reusable. The cost of printing building objects due to that requirements is comparable to costs of traditional building, which are currently available. However additive techniques of printing needs a dedicated mortars for printer supplying. Characteristic for such mortars is: setting time, compressive strength, followability in the printing system, shape stability of every printed layer, controlling the hydration rate to ensure bonding with the subsequent layer, reusable capabilities, easily accessible raw materials, cost of such mixtures shouldn’t be too high in order to keep 3D printing competitive for traditional ways of building, mortar components should be recyclable and printing process should not influence negatively on an environment and people. All properties of printing mortars are determined by the device for additive application method. In this paper review of available materials used for three dimensional printing technology at construction site is presented. Presented materials were analysed in terms of requirements for building materials technology. Due to the lack of detailed information’s in available literature, regarding to the properties of raw materials, the results of this analysis may be used in the designing of new concrete mixtures for the use in three-dimensional printing technology for construction.

The article deals with the problems of creation of intelligent management system by investment and construction projects. The relevance of research is due to the fact that in modern Russian construction there are frequent delays in terms of construction, the excess of budgets in the projects and low quality products. One of the main reasons of this situation is the poor organization of the production process at the construction site and that leads to a significant loss of workers’ time and construction machinery, to an inefficient use of material resources. The creation of intelligent management system in construction implies a fundamental change in the construction management technology starting from the date of fixation and transmission of information from the construction site, its systematization and finally development and making management decisions. The introduction of intelligent management system means a significant increase of registered options and data volumes while increasing its transmission speed at the construction site and that determines the need for developing the appropriate information technology and the Internet use.

A qualitative study was conducted to investigate the contractors’ attitude towards enhancing the safety performance in construction site. Despite the fact that there are many safety initiatives established by the government, the rates of accidents are still in a critically high condition. Thus the purpose of this research is to study the contractors’ attitude towards enhancing the implementation of safety management system in construction site in order to increase the safety awareness of construction practitioners in construction site and improve the safety condition of construction sites. This study is conducted through oral interviews with the construction practitioners, and visual inspection of construction sites. The attitudes of contractors are evaluated from 3 aspects: Contractors’ efforts in implement and enforce the safety rules, Contractors efforts in overcoming the rate of accidents, and Reasons given by the contractors for not implement safety law.

The thermal method is nowadays the only one that allows precise location of leaks in a shorings of a planned deep excavation, still before this excavation is made. It also allows to determine the leak intensity. As a consequence, it enables precise and early repair work, especially sealing. It allows to prevent or significantly reduce the serious consequences and losses resulting from a leaky excavation shoring. The paper presents the first in Poland case of the thermal detection of leaks in the excavation shoring at a construction site. This method has proven very effective in solving this complicated problem. The leaks were many and occurred in the diaphragm wall as well as under its lower edge. The depth of their occurrence reached over forty meters. The substrate‘s geology was highly heterogeneous. The method produced accurate details about the locations and intensity of the leaks.

In the article, on the basis of extensive theoretical and experimental research carried out, innovative geotechnology for repair of culverts is presented, which provides an improvement in the conditions for interaction between the body of the structure and the soil massif with increasing technogenic impacts. The analysis of the technical condition of the culvert transport and engineering structures under special operating conditions is given. Factors determining their premature emergency condition and interfering with stable functioning under increasing loads and impacts have been studied. On the basis of many years of experimental and theoretical and experimental design work, geotechnology «Saturn» has been proposed, suitable for repairing all types of culverts on railroads and highways, engineering infrastructure facilities, and especially for repair and reconstruction of pipes under conditions of a constant intensive watercourse with nonstandard (atypical) constructive solutions, as well as located in hard-to-reach and difficult for the organization of the construction site sections of the route. The experience of successful application of the developed technology "Saturn" on the railroad during the repair and reconstruction of long-maintained culverts of stone and concrete pipes under the conditions of a constant intensive watercourse and at water disposal facilities during repair of deep tunnels without their decommissioning is described.

The paper describes the new method developed for foundation strengthening by a drill and inject pile with controlled widening on its end. The method aims at increasing the useable area of the buildings under refurbishment. This is achieved by developing the underground space and/or adding floors. In-situ tests were carried out on a construction site in the city of Tyumen in order to implement the method on an industrial scale. The in-situ tests resulted in determining the radius of the compacted zone of soil massif, the geometric parameters of controlled widening, the vertical and horizontal deformations of the soil massif in the pile area and the changed physical and mechanical characteristics. The article describes the production of a new method for reinforcing foundations in the form of a drill-injected pile with controlled broadening at the end.

The quality standard SR EN 1090:2012 requirements enforce a maximum consistency both on the metallic construction manufacturing process and during all the additional stages till the construction site becomes a final product ready to be used. Any lack of attention during this complex manufacturing process might drive to different classes of damage consequences due to minor or major nonconformities. Therefore, among other important procedures, I refer here to the importance of marking both the raw materials (as part of the final product) and leftovers (as part of future work) resulted from the cutting process. I propose in this paper a specific database and a simple marking procedure based on QR codes. The database consists of detailed descriptions of all kind of metallic materials with different shape, structure and quality as well as all important information extracted from the quality certificate 3.1. that accompanies the goods once they arrive into the manufacturer’s storage. Since the standard underlines the necessity to identify any material during work processing, the system allows conversion of large text with important data into a QR code that can be scanned and therefore the material quickly identified into the manufacturer’s workshop.

The construction industry is one of the largest industries in Malaysia. There were too many factors that contribute to construction project success. Construction industry comprises different participants including clients, consultants, and contractors (as construction business) that perform different roles from conception in order to complete the project. The contractors in Malaysia were categorized into seven Grades of contractors starting from contractor G1 to G7. These categories were graded based on a number of employees and the value of the project. In Malaysia, G1 to G4 contractors (small grade contractors) are the highest company were registered with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). Unfortunately, small grade contractors are widely exposed to the highest rate of accidents or risky compared to medium and large grade contractors (G5-G7) in this industry. In order to adequately clarify the issues on this safety matter, this paper has discussed the problems faced by small grade contractors that influence the implementation of safety practice in a construction site. The objective of study is to identify the problems in small grade contractors in order to implement safety practice on site. This study was focused on small grade contractor in Malaysia. The data for this study were supported by previous studies are reported in the journal; statistic of accidents in the construction industry by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH); contractor information; statistic of contractors are registered under CIDB; safety book; and internet sources. This study had found that the small grade contractors have some issues related to safety practice whereas they did not have proper standard of safety (general safety act and regulation); they cannot appoint Safety Health Officer (SHO) to handle the site safety; have limited external resource; and also small grade contractors have financial constraints. Based on this review, it can be concluded that small grade contractors have more lacking in safety management and consequently, the rate of accidents still higher in the construction industry. However, safety management in small grade contractors can be improved with support by external resources such as researcher, large grade contractor, government, and pressure from authorities.

Nowadays, the construction of cement composite using 3D printers is considered one of the most promising methods of automation of building processes. However, the compositions of cement composites have several disadvantages, such as high cost, short workability and etc. It has been suggested that clay soil as an additive will help to solve these problems partially. The aim of the work is development the cement compositions with clay soil, for use in 3D printers to construction. The composite consists of cement paste with clay soil and additives. To study printability of a composite the rheological properties in a fresh state were studied. The study of the rheological properties of composites was carried out using a flow table test for mortar. The key factor for determining the suitability of the composite for printing was accepted the diameter of the cone after shaking. The test results showed the possibility of replacing cement paste with clay soil up to 25% which leads to a reduction in the cost and an increase in printability with a slight decrease in the strength of the obtained material to 7%. Utilizing of soil from the construction site provides maximum economic efficiency of the material application.

Every construction project requires a plan of construction site, where storage areas, temporary roads, social containers, machinery parks etc. are shown. The location of the machinery park on a building site is very important. Cost is the most important factor for both, civil engineering structures and buildings in terms of the machinery movement. The everyday building machinery transport from the park to the working positions is time and cost consuming. Four possible solution of the location of temporary roads, necessary for such transport of the construction machinery, were discussed. Finding the optimum location of machinery park was presented, and case study calculations were made. Two dimension problem simulation has been applied, enhanced by heuristic algorithms to solve the discussed matter.

The device is created to carry out high-quality center adjustment of pipe joints setting a required opening between the joints’ edges. The proposed device is totally autonomous and can be applied in all the climatic zones of Russia. The proposed device in the paper is adapted to the conventional method of major repairs with a partial replacement of pipes. The device excludes the use of internal clamps. To visualize the process, simulation 3D models have been developed. The use of the device will enable to improve the equipment for the repair and construction site. The device can be used both in the site and the field conditions. Applying the proposed device enables to weld pipe joints not only in the length but also in the strings. The outriggers are applied to spatially stabilize the device in the working process. The management of the device is done with a remote control console which enables to quickly prepare it for service.

Increasing the quality of organizational and technological solutions in construction is one of the main tasks facing the construction industry. The actual methods of solving the problem of setting organizational and technological design are directly related to the integration of specialized software in the planning and design of construction projects, especially for unique, complex projects, projects implemented in tight time and construction sites in the current urban development. The existing need to process a significant amount of information at short intervals and to link design decisions to the dynamic environment of the construction site is not an easy task, but a realizable one. Within the framework of the research work carried out at the department of MGSU, the expediency of applying operational assessments of the parameters of organizational and technological solutions based on mathematical methods has been established. The proposed method for forecasting and evaluating the integral parameters of design solutions is based on a neural network model, the method used involves the formation of a training matrix comprising key indicators of implemented (pilot) ones.

This paper presents the inspection of the condition and the design for strengthening of an existing railway arch bridge constructed in 1854. The original arch bridge is constructed with 5 layers of bricks in the arch and granite blocks in the foundation on top of an arrangement of frame made of timber and carried by piles. From the inspection it was concluded that the bricks in the arch was damaged due to freeze-thaw. It was also concluded that the timber structure in the foundation was rotten. The bridge is crossing a small creek. The environment is very sensitive. The access to the construction site is passing through landscape subject to preservation. The strengthening project included the arrangement of a new reinforced concrete arch. The arch was anchored with glued reinforcement bonded to the existing brick arch. The reinforcement and formwork was placed above the creek without disturbing the fauna in the water. The concrete was pumped into a form under the existing arch. After curing of the concrete arch, the strengthening of the foundation was initiated. It was planned to construct a bottom slab under the creek, which was able to carry the new concrete arch. In order to get access for the construction work the creek water was pumped through pipes suspended under the top of the new concrete arch. The procedures to handle the very delicate situation of replacing the foundation, while the bridge was in operation, and also protecting the environment is described in detail in the presentation. The process included high speed concrete curing, working processes under extreme narrow conditions and a very tight schedule.

The article covers the research results of the ways of forming the effective organizational structure for investment and construction project based on key events matrix. Current practice of investment and construction project development does not provide for project organizational structure detailed formation. Construction management plan (CMP) describes the organizational structure relatively and in general terms. Therefore, the customer confines himself only to development of staff’s schedule, and delegating the formation of organizational structure to the general contractor, what is moving the solution of this task to the construction site. A large number of participants form a spontaneous organizational structure, so the management of this structure becomes manual. This leads to the numerous adjustments to plans and construction schedules, as well as additions and changes in the technical documentation of the project. All this result in unstable work, unreasonable delays and, eventually, in quality deterioration, disruption of deadlines and rise in construction costs. This article describes the method of forming the highly effective investment and construction project’s organizational structure, which is based on the key events matrix that is the network functional model of project’s executive system. Its properties, transformation rules and the forming algorithm are described in details.

Construction Industry is a high risk industry and widely recognised as one of most hazardous occupation in the world. The statistic of accidents in Malaysia give us a picture that Malaysian construction industry is one of the dangerous sectors that need a drastic overhaul from the current site safety practices. This paper describes a review of the accident causes occurred in construction site by various researchers during the last twenty (20) years. This paper discusses the accident causes in Malaysia construction works and entire world. The data collected shows that variety of accident causes in construction industry either in Malaysia or other country.

Today, information technologies (IT) are used in almost every production industry. While the aspects of IT are well studied and discussed in relevant monographs, articles, web sources, etc., this paper reviews the performance improvement options in the construction industry by leveraging IT. From a wide range of information technologies the author has picked the most relevant solutions, from his point of view, based on several considerations, the most important one being the lack of adequate attention to these technologies specifically in the construction industry. The paper covers the following technologies: Big Data (a smart technology for high-speed processing of huge and diverse data arrays); situation centers (SC) for construction and operations projects (SCs are successfully used in other industries for operating control of sophisticated facilities); data warehouses (DW) for the construction industry (DWs are viewed as a standalone project rather than a supplement to Data Mining or Big Data); operational and dispatch radio communication service (radio communication can ensure instant connectivity between several subscribers); VSAT (a satellite technology for prompt connection of a distant construction site with the 'outer world' when no alternatives are available). The paper briefly presents the essence of each technology, describes the pre-requisites for its use in construction, outlines the key advantages, limits and shortcomings, and lists construction projects where it shall be worthwhile to use a specific technology projects.

The city fast track railway bridge studied in this paper is located above an old mined out area. There is a 1500m2 underground goaf in the construction site with a depth of 30.8~53.2m, the seam thickness is 2.0~2.5m and the dip angle is 50~63 degrees. Although the mine has been abandoned for many years, there are still a lot of underground cavities. Collapse pits occurred on the surface occasionally till this day, especially during the rainy season. In order to make the design safe and reliable, drilling pressure grouting technique is proposed to fill and reinforce the foundation of the site. Proposed technique is tested by several experiments in simulated underground mined out area for the foundation treatment. The technical design, construction technology, grouting and reinforcement effect of the project are studied and summarized. The results of the experiment showed a stable and safe bridge foundation has been achieved. The proposed technique was then applied to on site experiment and pasted all tests.

The environmental protection is not only an important social problem, but also an efficiency increasing factor of construction operations. The problem of the environment preserving and the protecting people from the adverse health effects during the construction operations is growing more urgent due to the increase in volume of construction and the increasing availability of construction equipment. The works of many researchers are devoted to the study of the dust load and the evaluation of influence on the environment.This article describes the practical effect of air pollution during the construction site landscaping of two buildings, which are situated in Rostov-on-Don. Nowadays the limitation of air pollution emissions from construction operations is regulated by a number of normative documents, but civil designers, unfortunately, do not always meet the regulation of emissions in full obedience in the construction operating for a number of reasons. The correct environmental impact assessment from construction is possible, taking into account the sequence and simultaneity of the operations. It is especially important for the construction taken place on the territory of cities. According to the study, a set of measures for air pollution reduction was developed. Such measures can reduce the air pollution by 1.5-2 times.

Rapid development of foundation engineering and substrate improvement technologies and also availability of various enforcement techniques make that dynamic or vibration-related technologies are used in such accomplishments. They are distinguished with numerous advantages like fast execution and large bearing capacities resulting from good compaction or additional compaction of natural soils during executing the work. Among such technologies most often used are, inter alia, stone columns, impulse compaction, dynamic replacement and, finally, micro-explosions. These technologies feature however some drawbacks like noise and vibrations. Noise is definitely more arduous for people. Although it is not more intense than that of standard work on construction site, but periodicity of noise source (e.g. vibrator, pile-driver) is oppressive for outsiders. Vibrations are generally better tolerated than noise. However, the influence of work exerted on neighbouring facilities should be under control. Accelerometers, which measure acceleration of structure elements caused by dynamic influences from working machinery, are used for this purpose. Another problem is the quality control of the work progressed. The paper provides both exemplary measurement equipment for vibration control and control procedures assessing efficiency of substrate improvement process.

In the article is described application of protective and catching systems in construction. Classification of similar systems, their types and purpose are listed. Dangerous zones on construction site and events to for limiting their influence or protection from the factors. Protective and catching systems is one of the most effective technical equipment, applied in recent time. Protective fences and catching systems are important part in the problem solution. Protective fences protect workers from falling from height. Protective and catching systems allows avoid injuries by workers, also catch debris, fallen from constructing buildings. In regard with continuing development in technical and technological solutions, protective and catching systems require adaptation to a new requirements of construction industry and requirements of normative documents. Technical regulations in the appliance sphere of protective and catching systems requires actualization and aligning with modern normatives. Important role should be given to developing organizational and technological documentation for application of the systems. Scientific studying of technical parameters of fences and protective catching nets also has great interest.

In MATEC Web of Conferences (Vol. 103, p. 01010). EDP Sciences., The fresh quality of a concrete mixture subjected to high temperature and prolonged mixing is adversely affected. These harsh conditions would result in a stiff concrete that is hard to handle and place. This paper investigates the coupled effects of temperature and prolonged mixing on green self-consolidating concrete (GSCC) incorporating a ternary blend of fly ash and silica fume. This study was carried out in the construction material laboratory of Abu Dhabi University under an outdoor environment during the summer of 2014. The SCC mixtures were continuously mixed for 110 minutes at a temperature ranging from 25 to 40 o C to simulate the actual conditions of concrete during transporting to a construction site. The fresh properties were tested using BT2 portable rheometer, slump flow, T50 and visual stability index (VSI). The results showed that the ternary blend of silica fume and fly ash enhanced the rheological properties of SCC mixtures under high temperature and prolonged mixing time.

Proposals on the use of modernized industrial robots in the construction of low-rise buildings are formulated. The necessary parameters of such a mechanism are established. The time necessary for building the walls of a two-story house is determined. Features of the robots use on the construction site are described.

Construction industry in Malaysia covers almost 1.3 million workers. Thus, realizing the importance of human-centred trait, a long-term plan that is led by the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) has been designed to improve accommodation and facilities of workers at construction site. In conjunction to that, the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards Malaysia (SIRIM) has developed Malaysia Standard (MS 2593:2015) as the guideline for improvement of accommodation and facilities for workers which is able to contribute to the achievement of the target in the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP). However, a phenomenon that is centred on the level of itscorroboration compared with other similar guidelines has been voiced by some practitioners of construction, especially when the guideline are likely to be the basis of a new related act. Therefore, based on MS 2593:2015, this introductory research is conducted to qualitatively analyse the corroborative level of the guideline compared to its counterpart guidelines. By using a comprehensive document analysis method which anchored to frequency approach and assisted by NVivo v.8 software, the report found out that the Malaysia-based guideline is on par to the restwith some introduction of new variables (especially towards leisure and social aspects). Thus, further research on gauging industry’s willingness and existing compliance rates is deemed appropriate in order to inculcate positive impacts towards the objectives of MS 2593:2015, and subsequently contributes to the formation of the forthcoming corresponding act.

The technological features of core concreting were analyzed as the main factor in ensuring of strength and reliability of compressed concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) members. We have conducted the analysis of existing concreting methods of CFST members. In this respect, the most dangerous types of possible technological defects of concrete core of CFST members are inhomogeneity along the height, voids, caverns, and concrete “weak spots”. The authors considered the influence of such technological factors of concreting: placeability, time, concrete mixture compaction method, concreting height on the concrete core strength of CFST members. Based on the experimental studies conducted we suggested the regression correlations for determining the concrete strength of CFST members of different length depending on the movability of concrete mixture and a time for its compaction. The authors performed the correlation analysis of technological factors of concreting on the strength of the concrete core. We carried out the comparison of data on the concrete core strength of CFST members, that were determined by non-destructive methods (sclerometer test results, ultrasonic method) and direct compression strength tests. We experimentally proved that using movable mixtures with the slump of about 4 – 9 cm the overall variation coefficient of concrete core strength of CFST members along the height reaches nearly 13%. Based on the experimental studies conducted we suggested the guidelines on optimal regimes of concrete compaction during manufacturing CFST members at a construction site environment.

The article presents the results of the investigation of universal calibration dependences used in testing of the concrete strength by shear, rebound and ultrasound test methods. Many of the instruments currently used do not provide the required measurement accuracy, especially when using universal calibration dependences. The introduction of new more sophisticated instruments for nondestructive testing of concrete strength requires an assessment of their accuracy, taking into account the composition of concrete and other parameters. The shear test method, called “direct”, does not provide the required accuracy of measurements, and the use of this method for the calibration of sclerometers and ultrasonic devices is unacceptable.The aim of the research is to clarify the dependences, taking into account the data on concrete composition, parameters of materials used, and the age of concrete. The studies will allow you to set the values of the coefficients to be used in the generalized calibration curve, with considering the concrete information obtained at a particular construction site (where concrete strength is tested).

Economic efficiency of using funds in construction of buildings and structures begins from an effective, proper design, which is based on modern, cutting-edge, advanced equipment, streamlined organization and process solutions of construction operations. In the light of this it is considered application of “Self-Organization and Technology of Building” multifunctional software package capable of solving various engineering tasks on designing management of construction operations in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations in view of using software for automatic generation of workflow. Implementing this software in the construction management processes may help to solve management tasks at the construction site.

Development of the construction industry generated construction waste which can contribute towards environmental issues. Weaknesses of compliance in construction waste management especially in construction site have also contributed to the big issues of waste generated in landfills and illegal dumping area. This gives sign that construction projects are needed a systematic construction waste management. To date, a comprehensive criteria of construction waste management, particularly for construction project in developing countries such as Malaysia is still not systematically defined. Therefore, construction waste management needs further investigation. This paper aims to explain a concept model for systematic construction waste management in the Malaysian construction industry. The methodology of this paper is through literature and previous research focusing on current practices of construction waste management, the barriers of construction waste management implementation and the additional factor for implementing systematic construction waste management in order to develop a conceptual model. Findings from this study will help to find out the elements required to implement systematic construction waste management in Malaysian construction industry. This action seems significant to the participants in prioritizing construction waste management more systematically. The implementation also will increase the awareness and better understanding of the construction players of the importance of construction waste management in construction projects.

The paper proposes a method to enable analyzing any large deformation of membrane structures. If the analysis uses even very small rigidity against compression in the structures, the computation becomes multi-bifurcated problem and unstable. The original compression-free model used in the method keeps the structures in tension field and this makes computing the deformation always very stable. The paper uses the advantage of the method and shows a snapping phenomenon during constructing a membrane dome. Though the snapping phenomenon is not so public, the phenomenon occasionally happens in the construction site and it causes the destruction.

Special concrete is the type of concrete that produced by using waste material or using unusual techniques/method of preparation. Special concrete made with waste material is becoming popular in a construction site. This is because the special concrete is selected due to quality, integrity, economic factor and environmental factor. The waste glass is selected as an additional material to provide a good in compressive strength value. The compressive strength is the importance of mechanical properties of concrete and typically the concrete is sustained and stiffed in compression load. The significant issue to utilize the waste glass from the automotive windscreen is to improve the strength of concrete. The waste glass is crushed to become 5 mm size and recognised as crushed waste glass that be used in concrete as additional material. The main objective of the study is to determine the appropriate percentage of crushed waste glass in concrete grade, 30 in order to enhance the compressive strength. There are four mixes of concrete that contained of crushed waste glass with percentage of 2 %, 4 %, 6 % and 8 % and one control mix with 0 % of crushed waste glass. As the result, crushed waste glass with an additional 4 % in concrete is reported having a higher value of compressive strength in early and mature stage. In addition, if the percentage of crushed glass wastes in concrete increases and it leads to a reduction in the workability of concrete.

A new test method using moisture rate to represent workability indicators of dry-hard mixture is introduced in order to test the control indicators of VC value in the construction of roller compacted concrete rapidly. In view of the complexity of the impact of proportional difference on VC value and moisture rate, this paper carries out field tests of roller compacted concrete in Guoduo hydropower station of Tibet. A simplified linear quantitative model formula of VC value and moisture rate at the construction site is established based on determined aggregate grading, admixture, additive type and the amount of admixture of roller compacted concrete mixture, providing conditions for the rapid and accurate measurement of construction quality indicators of roller compacted concrete.
