Abstract

A study of the population mechanisms of small tiger prawns in the seagrass regions of the western Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia, reveals that postlarval and young tiger prawns grow mostly on seagrass in inner tidal and shallow subtidal waters. Juvenile tiger prawns show more importance to the type of seagrass community than postlarvae, implying that seagrass community traits influence the survival or migration of postlarvae prawns. The tidal cycle permits predator entry only during specific times.
