This study analyzed top papers published in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) published between 2009 and 2019 and included in the Web of Science (WoS) subject category "Information Science & Library Science". Data of the 501 top papers were extracted from the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database comprising 499 highly cited papers and 16 hot papers in the field. The distributions of document type, language of publication, scientific output, and publication of journals are reported in this paper. The co-authorship network visualization of authors, organizations and countries, co-occurrence network visualization of all keywords are visualized using VOSviewer software. The 501 papers, all written in English language, were from 1,579 authors employed at 680 organizations based in 59 countries/territories. The papers were published in 40 journals in the field. The top 5 core journals ranked based on the impact factor (IF) were MIS Quarterly, Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, International Journal of Information Management, Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, and Information Management. The top 5 organizations were University of Maryland (USA), University of Wolverhampton (UK), Vanderbilt University (USA), Indiana University (USA), and Wuhan University (China). Authors from the following countries contributed the most - USA, People's Republic of China, England, Canada and Netherlands. Based on network map using VOSviewer, there were micro, meso and macro level collaborations based on common interests in a specific topics. Analysis of all keywords showed that the research were distributed into 6 clusters. This study concludes that one important characteristic of top papers is the journal reputation, therefore authors can choose their ideal journal with a high JIF and quartile to publish papers in the English language related to this research field. Highly cited papers serve as a proxy for excellence. In this paper, we identify Malaysia's highly-cited papers and explore the characteristics of these papers. The research question posed is "What characterizes Malaysian highly cited papers?" This study adopts the definition by Thomson Reuters Essential Science Indicator, i.e. the highly cited papers are papers that received enough citations to be placed in the top 1 percent of the academic field of each 22 subject areas based on a highly cited threshold for the field and publication year. As a small scientific nation, Malaysia has a rather limited number of papers being highly cited, and we observed nine characteristics of highly cited papers based on 708 datasets obtained from the Web of Science. Malaysian highly cited papers are largely represented by articles, but reviews have higher impact. Typically, these papers have a low self-cited index and they are published in the First Quartile of the science discipline publications. The papers are mainly the outcome of national funded research; involve multiple co-authorship and international collaboration; affiliated to Malaysian research universities and Malaysian authors often play a dominant role as first or reprint authors. Partnership with scientists from Iran, Australia and UK may increase markedly the possibility of a Malaysian paper becoming highly cited. This investigation has shown that these are the characteristics of Malaysian highly cited papers, but to what extent can these be used as indicators need further investigation and discussions among the scientific community. To clarify the interdisciplinary relationships of Iranian ISI papers on nanoscience and nanotechnology (N&N) and scheme its development pattern, a detailed citation analysis study was conducted. An increasing trend of publications from 1 paper in 1995 (with 26 citations) to 94 papers in 2007 (with 2425 citations) is obtained. With about 90%, journal papers have the most impacts on the N&N citations. Citation to books after 2003 is an indicative of N&N evolution. To the end of 2007, 14 different subject fields containing 25 disciplines contribute in the foundations of N&N. The 4 top subject fields in N&N are manufacturing and transport engineering (with 48.5% of all citations), physical sciences (15%), chemical sciences (14.7%), and nano (13.3%). Alternatively, metallurgy (with 28.01%), physic (17.33%) and materials engineering (16.48%) appear as the top three disciplines. In general, the standard deviations of the data are fairly large, indicating considerable variability among them. While N&N in Iran is a multidisciplinary field, the dynamic nature of nano causes to afford sources itself gradually. Besides, it is inevitable that novel nano sources enter in other fields in the future. In other words, the relationships among N&N and other disciplines appear mutually. Finally, in the outlining perspectives of N&N in Iran, the convergence of basic sciences (physics and chemistry) and engineering (materials engineering and metallurgy) have the highest impacts on their fundamental and applied aspects, respectively. The emergence of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a serious global public health problem. The mystery around the causative agent was revealed on 7 January 2020 when the pathogen was isolated by Chinese scientists and named as novel coronavirus-2019 (2019-nCoV). With quicker reaction to the contagion, the number of scholarly research publications have increased exponentially, which calls for bibliometric analysis and review of the incipient studies. Therefore on 7 Feb 2020, the English language and Chinese publications on COVID-19 were retrieved from PubMed and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure). A retrospective bibliometric analysis was performed to gauge the output, language, document type, journal, authorship, geographical distribution, research focus, resulting in a total of 154 papers comprising 100 papers in English and another 54 in Chinese. There were 30 journals published at least 2 papers, and the Journal of Medical Virology published the most papers (11). China and USA were the most productive countries, and there were 24 international collaborative papers. Fudan University contributed the most papers. Isaac I. Bogoch, Kunling Shen, Xingguang LI, Hongzhou Lu were the most active authors as first authors, with 2 papers respectively. Among the 154 publications, 35 were opinions papers, and 30 were research articles. Papers were categorized by research areas, and five research foci were identified. Our study offers an overview of the incipient publications and quantitative information for future research on coronavirus. The five economies in Asia that invest the most in research and development, as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), are Israel, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and China. Nevertheless, the results in the number of scientific output in terms of research publications, and the citations received by them, reveal a whole different reality among those countries. Furthermore, the intellectual production based on quantitative research methods used to be much more popular and defended than that on qualitative methods. However, three of these five countries mentioned trust more in the qualitative paradigm, represented by grounded theory, than in the quantitative one, represented by structural equation modeling. The current study investigates 25 years of scientific production available in the Web of Science and shows that, even though China is undoubtedly Asia's leader in intellectual production, measured by publication productivity and scientific impact, the scientific community trusts the least on China's papers regarding grounded theory, placing China in fifth place among the studied countries for qualitative studies, and third place for quantitative studies. The paper also deepens on the concept of trust as a replacement of impact, and projects the near future for the five studied countries regarding quantitative and qualitative intellectual production. Nowadays, Open Access Mega-Journals (OAMJs) represent a substantial part of the scholarly communication system. The current research is conducted with the aim of providing better insights into the increasingly important OAMJ phenomenon through investigation of eight reputable titles using established bibliometric methods. Results of the study showed that eight studied OAMJs were responsible for 1.87% of the total number of publication indexed in Web of Science during 2012-2016. Despite the decline in publication count of PLOS ONE over the past couple of years, it was the biggest journal in the world till 2017, when Scientific Reports overtook PLOS ONE as the most productive journal. Over 88% of the papers published in eight selected OAMJs were cited at-least once at the point in time of analysis. The highest proportions of cited and un-cited documents were seen in Scientific Reports and SpringerPlus, respectively. With regard to the three indicators, namely share of highlycited papers, the category normalized citation impact as well as the JIF percentile, IEEE Access had by far the best performance among eight examined OAMJs. Results of the study revealed that Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Multidisciplinary Sciences, Neurosciences, Oncology and Immunology were the most commonly assigned subject categories to OAMJs' content. The National Natural Science Foundation of China was the most important funding agency that supported the publication of around 26000 articles in eight studied OAMJs. Investigation of the geographic distribution of authors showed that the United States and China by far had the highest contribution in the content of eight studied OAMJs. This study examines the contributions of women scientists currently working in various research organizations under the Ministry of Science and Technology, India. Women scientists were identified through the official websites of the research laboratories and their publication performance has been tracked using the Scopus database. There are 901 women scientists working in 78 research organizations under the Ministry and have published 21810 publications up to December 2019, almost 65 percent of which has been appeared during 2010 to 2019. The publication per scientist has risen from 6.85 article per year before 2000 to 10.45 paper in 2015-2019 which indicates increasing participation of women in science from India. Women scientists are primarily engaged in biological sciencesresearch, however fields such as materials sciences, nano-technology, and astrophysics are also becoming the preferred subject choices among women. Women scientists mostly published their articles as a member of a team of utmost 10 authors, however, their position in multi-authored articles is mostly as co-authors than that of principal authors. Women in the age group of between 31 to 40 produced maximum publications, and almost 98 percent of publications appeared in collaboration with other scientists. This study confirms that publication productivity does not decline with age. There are women scientists who stay active in research and keep their productivity at a high level until their retirement. The study suggests that the increasing participation of women in Indian science is encouraging, as such more funding opportunities to younger women researchers may be important to give them more lead time to build a strong career. The present study examines Egyptian publications and research collaboration in health sciences using Thomson Reuters InCites™ over the period of 1980-2014. Egypt, in clinical, pre-clinical and health, is ranked 44 among all countries according to the Web of Science documents (quantity) and total citations (quality). It is ranked at 40 and 55 respectively for international collaboration and the total number of highly cited papers. The total publications of Egyptian scientists in health sciences were 31 382, of which 27 693 articles were multi-authored, indicating a co-authorship ratio of 88 percent. It reveals that Egyptian scientists have a great tendency to collaborate. The collaborated papers show a greater citation impact, category normalized citation impact, and journal normalized citation impact and h-index compared to single authored papers. This reveals that the visibility and impact of co-authored papers are higher than that of single authored ones, as well as the visibility and impact of internationally co-authored publications are higher than the single authored or domestic papers. Egyptian scientists, in clinical, pre-clinical and health, had joint publications with their colleagues in 166 countries during the period under study. These countries were grouped according to geographic position, scientific capacity and economic development rate. The results show that Egypt's main partners were USA, Saudi Arabia, Germany, England and Japan. In addition, Egyptian researchers mostly co-published with colleagues in Europe, scientifically advanced countries and high income countries. In this paper, we take Nature as a case study to present a new method for calculating and analyzing the structure of the Impact Factor (IF) using the Web of Science (WoS) database and the definition of IF. We calculated Nature's IF for 2013 using data retrieved on 21 March 2014 from the WoS database and comprehensively analyzed its structural features, thereby identifying the contributions to Nature's IF for 2013 of different document types, highly cited papers, highly cited authors, different institutions, and different countries and regions. The results show: (a) the calculated value of Nature's IF for 2013 is 41.002 according to data retrieved in March of 2014; (b) two types of document, article and review, made prominent contributions to Nature's IF for 2013, with contribution values of 35.338 and 3.179, respectively; (c) the institutions that made the greatest contributions to Nature's IF for 2013 are mainly located in the USA and England, with the first three highly cited institutions being Harvard University, Stanford University, and Washington University; (d) the contributions of different countries and regions to Nature's IF for 2013 differ greatly, with the combined contribution rate of the USA and England being 70.4 percent. Many researchers have suggested careful application of bibliometric indicators to research evaluation because of many factors including disciplinary norms that influence the publication and citation behaviors of researchers. Although some researchers have examined different bibliometric patterns across disciplines, relatively few scholars have focused on whether research performance should be evaluated in a uniform manner across research domains within a single discipline, especially in a multi-disciplinary fields such as library and information science (LIS). In order to ascertain whether such subject-specific differences exist in the LIS field, we conducted a bibliometric study that examined the publication and citation patterns across subject areas of LIS research in Korea. The analysis of our study data, which consisted of 6,838 citations to 1,986 domestic papers published between 2001 and 2010 by 163 LIS faculty members in Korea, revealed some evidence of bibliometric pattern differences across subject areas. In particular, we found that the authors in Bibliographic Studies, who were almost twice as productive as authors in other subject areas, received the lowest citation counts, which might be attributed to their different publishing and citing behaviors. Publication and citation patterns across subject areas of LIS papers and observation of the possible effect of sub-disciplinary culture on citing behaviors suggest the need for subject-specific assessment of multidisciplinary research discipline such as LIS. Number of citations is a basic bibliometric index for evaluating academic articles and assessing researchers, research groups, institutions, and journals. It has several derivative indices which typically assume all citations to have the same importance. Recent research has shown that this is not always true. In this paper, a theoretical relationship between the scientific impact of a research paper and the citations it receives is established. The mathematical model considers the following factors: the number of citations it has received, the role it plays in the papers citing it, and the scientific impact of the papers citing it. This theoretical model depends on the citation matrix and a content-based citation analysis. Limited by current technology, a simplified model referring to normalized citation is provided. The paper further discusses how to apply the method to estimate the scientific impact of researchers, research groups, institutions, and journals. The paper provides the results of the first phase of the research project Trust and Authority in Scholarly Communications: The Periphery of World Scholarship in the Digital Era conducted in Malaysia. The objective of the study is to examine the changing behaviours and attitudes of academic researchers in today's scholarly digital environment, with respect to how they determine authority and trustworthiness in the sources they use, cite, and publish in. This phase utilised focus groups to address the research objective. Five focus groups were held during the period of December 2013 to April 2014 in three universities in Kuala Lumpur. In all a total of 48 researchers attended the focus groups, comprising 21 scientists and 27 social scientists. Findings indicate that peer-reviewed journals are still the central to the authors, however they seem to have more freedom in relation to journals they read and cite, compared to publish. Overall, authors view that scholarly resources that are current, relevant, authored by credential scholars, peer-reviewed, having credible reference lists, published by reputable journals, and having online presence are fit for scholarly utilisation. The extent to which authors are prepared to believe that the scholarly information source and channel are trustworthy for publication rely on it in view of its impact, indexation status, reputation, peers' recommendation, accessibility and visibility, and authority's approval. New forms of communication channels such as social media or new journal models are not much used in formal scholarly communication. The focus groups provided the direction for questionnaires and interviews that would follow.The paper also discusses the implication of the findings to academic librarians towards delivering the right services to meet the needs of the scholarly community. This study gauges the scientific impact of Marshall McLuhan's works on academic research. To this end, an analysis was undertaken to study published research that cited his works in the Web of Science (WoS) from 1957 to 2017. A total of 6,591 documents were found that record 8,989 citations from a range of McLuhan's, mainly scientific documents (journal articles and monographs). The temporary distribution of the documents, the citations received by the different types of documents, the subject matter of the papers and the other co-authors cited along with McLuhan were analyzed. Among the main results, it was found that compared to the Canadian researcher's journal articles, his monographs received the most citations received, notably his work entitled "Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man". In addition, it was discovered that the interdisciplinary nature of McLuhan's thought has had repercussions in different fields, such as communication, education, sociology and computer science. Since the second half of the 20th century, McLuhan is a benchmark, together with outstanding sociologists, philosophers and communication theorists such as Theodor Adorno, Pierre Bourdieu and Zygmunt Bauman, among others. This paper presents the relative percentile of diffusion (RPDiF) and compares it with the results of the following indicators: synchronous diffusion factor (DiF), synchronous relative diffusion factor (RDiF), and the five years impact factor (5IF) scores -- to assess the influence of journals. The approach involves collection, analyses and comparison of bibliometric data for42 Malaysian journals that have garnered citations in the Web of Science (WoS) during 2006 to 2010.Findings show that it is important to read the RDiF with the RPDiF because RPDiF shows that journals with high RDiF and low RPDiF do not possess strong quality profile like those with both high RDiF and RPDiF. The paper concludes that a journal can be said to demonstrate high quality impact and influence if it achieves a high DiF, RPDiF and 5IF. In [A. Pulgarin. 2012. Dependence of Lotka's law parameters on the scientific area. Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science, 17(1): 41-50], the author finds negative correlations between the average number of papers per author and the Lotka exponent and the Lotka constant as well as positive correlations between the latter two parameters. He also finds lower values for the latter two parameters in fields or countries with highly concentrated productions (e.g. where there is heavy growth). This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of papers on terrorism published in journals from 1981- 1990. The 402 citations were retrieved from Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) via DIALOG. The findings show that the annual growth of this literature is unstable. These papers come from many disciplines indicating that terrorism has not yet developed into a specialty. The literature is dispersed, mostly thin, in 139 journals with no identifiable core. Single-author and English language publications are dominant. Most of the papers originate in the U.S.A and U.K. It is suggested that indexing should be expanded to cover journals published in developing countries and their languages. It is also suggested that studies on larger samples should be conducted to identify rates of growth, core authors, core journals, and changes in research topics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper highlights quantitatively the growth and development of chemical science research by J.S.Yadav during the period from 1986-2009. During this period he has published 722 papers (702 research articles) in various domains. The data used was from Thomson/ISI Web of Science. This study attempts to evaluate the publications of J.S. Yadav in relation to his contribution to the knowledge domain of chemical science and his role for the advancement of chemical science in India and elsewhere in a span of about two and half decades. His papers have been scattered in 56 high impact factor scientific journals. The percentage of collaborative work (99.7) was very high. His highest degree of collaboration 0.1925, was found during 2002-2003.The h index of 41 after 24 years of scientific activity is a clear indication of his consistent publication productivity behaviour. This paper provides an insight into the citation analysis of research publications of the National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) during the period 1972-2007. It analysed 2830 most valuable citations spread over 561 publications made by the NML scientists and researchers indexed in Science Citation Index (SCI) retrieved through the Web of Science. It determines the research and citation impact using parameters such as extent of citation received in terms of number of citation per paper, year wise break up of citation, domain wise citation, self citations and citation by others, diachronous self citation rate, citing authors, citing institutions, highly cited papers and categories of citing documents, citing journals and impact factor. A Bradford plot constructed to determine the core-citing journals shows that the curve is a typical S shape which indicates subject maturity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyses publication and citation patterns in the Malaysian Journal of Computer Science (MJCS) from 1996-2006. The articles in MJCS are mostly written by Malaysian academics, with only limited inputs from international sources. Comparisons are made with the companion Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science in terms of the type, number of references, length and numbers of authors for individual papers. Searches of Google Scholar showed that 53 MJCS articles attracted a total of 86 citations, of which 43 were self-citations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we studied synchronous references (references in the same papers) and diachronous citations (citations to the papers) of the renowned theoretical physicist, Homi Jehangir Bhabha. We utilized the Science Citation Index (SCI) on CD from 1982 - 2006. We identified his coauthors, his most cited works, citation identity (authors whom he had cited) and citation image makers (authors citing him). Bhabha published his first paper in 1933 at the age of 24 and the last paper in 1966, the year of his demise. His 66 papers could be categorized into nine fields: Cosmic ray physics (18 papers); Elementary particle physics, and Field theory (14 papers each); Quantum electrodynamics (6 papers); Nuclear physics (4 papers); General, and Interaction of radiation with matter (3 papers each); and Mathematical physics and General physics (2 papers each). He collaborated with 18 authors in 18 papers; the remaining 48 papers were single-authored. His citation identity consisted of 212 different authors, of whom six were Nobel laureates. He received 328 citations to his works, his overall citation rate being 10.6 per cited paper and the highest citation rate was 21.2 to his papers in the field of Elementary particle physics. His most often cited paper was in Quantum electrodynamics with 54 citations. His image makers comprised 537 different authors. The paper attempted to provide a "picture" of Malaysian US research and publications. The study aimed to show (a) the total number and spread of publications produced by Malaysian authors; (b) the active authors; (c) the authorship pattern; (d) the affiliation status of the authors; (e) the main channels used to publish; and (f) the subject covered by the published works. The study confined its scope to the publications produced between 1965 and 2005 by Malaysian authors published in Malaysia as well as abroad. Bibliometric techniques and regression analysis were employed as the measuring instrument. The data was collected from seven online databases and seven well established library OPACs, which are expected to hold earlier and current US publications. A bibliometric toolbox was used to feed in text files which provided brief summaries of ranked results, a bibliograph and minimal Bradford zonal analysis. The subject categorization used by Gorman and Corbit's Model of core competencies for US was used to categorized entries by subjects. The results indicated that (a) Malaysian US authors preferred to publish in journals (511, 48.9%) and conference papers (474, 45.4%); (b) the publication distribution fluctuated over the 41 year period but the moving average depicted a steady incremental trend; (c) a total of 506 authors contributed to 1,045 publications and 309 are one-time authors' (d) the active authors in LIS are affiliated to 131 institutions and the productive institutions were the national Library of Malaysia, University of Malaya library and the academics at the MUS Programme, University of Malaya.; (e) publication productivity was related to institutional active involvement in US journal publishing; and (/`) the main subject areas actively researched upon were collection development and management, information centres and services, and ICT applications US. Librarians have been using citation analysis as a means to determine the usage of their collection while others have used it look at undergraduate information behaviour. At the same time, various attempts are being made to relate citation analysis of bibliographies to information literacy competencies by mapping them to the performance indicators of established information literacy standards. This paper describes the analysis of bibliographies of final year project reports emanating from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya. A total of 73 reports were analysed using a pre-designed scoring sheet and results presented included number of pages, number of citations, types of sources used, usage of Web resources, currency of sources and citation style. The contents analysis of the bibliographies indicates: (a) the least number of citations per report is 6 and the most is 165 with the most number of citations within the range of 11 to 20 cites; (b) there are more Web citations than citations to books, journal articles, undergraduate reports, Masters' dissertations and conference papers; (c) there are more citation to .com than to .org, .edu, .net and other URL extensions; (d) most citations are not dated and most of those dated are from within the last three years with the most current being 2005 and the oldest dated citation is 1935; and (e) most references have their print citations cited correctly but the Web citations cited incorrectly. Only a handful of indicators could be matched to the information literacy performance indicators of the ALA/ACRL/STS 2005 Information Literacy Standards for Science and Engineering/Technology. This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of research work in this field on Bose-Einstein Condensation (BEC) in terms of publication output as per Science Citation Index (1982-2005). During 1982-2005 a total of 5258 papers were published by scientists in this field. The average number of publications per year were 219. The highest number of papers (814) were published in 2004. There were 77 countries involved in the research in BEC. USA is the top producing country with 1632 publications (31%) followed by Germany with 620 publications (11.79%). Authorship and collaboration trend was towards multi- authored papers. Intensive collaboration was found during 1996-2005. One paper "Astrophysical Journal 543 (1), (2000), L39-L42" had 56 collaborators. There were 1635 international collaborative papers. Bilateral collaboration accounted for 24 percent of total collaborative papers. National Institute of Standards & Technology (USA) topped the list with 179 publications followed by University of Colorado (USA) with 160 publications. The most prolific authors were W. Ketterle (USA) with 93 publications; K. Burnett (England) and M. Lewenstein (England) with 68 publications each; and S. Stringari with 57 publications. The most preferred journals by the scientists were Physical Review-A with 1504 papers; Physical Review Letters with 824 papers; Journal of Physics-B with 205 papers; Physical Review-B with 178 papers; Physics Letters-A with 157 papers; Physical Review-E with 122 papers; and Journal of Low Temperature Physics with 102 papers. This study carried out a bibliometric analysis of the literature on Nigella sativa (Habbat al-barakah or Black seed). The purpose was to study the periodic growth of literature, author patterns, topical focus, and geographic origin of literature on the subject Twenty related databases and several online catalogues of libraries were searched to identify a final list of 530 citations. This data set was analyzed using various bibliographic characteristics. The findings show the increase in the volume of literature from 1971 onward, starting from one citation per year growing to 46 papers per year during the late 1990s. Most of the literature comes from Medical Sciences and Chemistry. A small core of authors contributed about one-third of the citations. Four-fifths of the citations are the result of collaborative work About two-fifths of the papers are published by only 36 journals. India and Egypt are the leading contributors to this literature. This paper deals with the multi-perspective bibliometric analysis of Central European scientific journals indexed in the Web of Science database and covered in the Journal Citation Reports - Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). The analysis focuses on the evaluation of the (inter) national orientation of Central European Social Science journals indexed in the period 2012 - 2015. Data were obtained from the Web of Science database on October 20, 2016. The journals are divided in two groups in favour of the scientific discipline identifying the journal in the Web of Science. The first group consists of journals belonged to public health and psychology. The second group includes all social related scientific journals covered in both the SSCI and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) databases. Journals were chosen by language versions of journals in the Web of Science, language versions of articles, authors' most important institutional affiliations; and other statistically significant indicators provided by Clarivate Analytics. Assessment of the "openness of Central European journals" to foreign authors was analyzed on the basis of the "INO indicator" (Index of National Orientation). Statistical analyses were conducted on the articles which carry the relevant scientific information. Descriptive statistics was used for the data analysis, using frequencies, percentages and means. The results of this research showed a strong orientation towards Slovakian and Czech authors regardless of the two analyzed groups. Based on INO, most of the Central European journals quality and impact were comparatively low. A competitive environment has been created for journals in the social science disciplines, especially for those with competitors in neighboring countries in fields such as psychology, economics, geography and sociology. The objective of this research is to determine (i) the quantity and quality of publications in biomedical research in top-producing countries in West Africa during 2005-2014, as well as (ii) the characteristics of the journals used by the researchers and collaborative evidence in the area. Data was drawn from MEDLINE/PubMed and Google Scholar, while the impact factors of the journals were retrieved from the SCImago Journal and Country Rank portal. Quantity of publications was measured by counting the number of publications attributable to a country while h-index was extracted to measure quality. Productivity was analysed by sorting the data according to their first named authors, journals and publication dates, and analysed using MS Excel and LOTKA®. Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali had the highest number of publications. In respect to productivity, apart from Côte d'Ivoire that had an α value of less than 2, indicating a higher level of productivity, all other countries had an α value greater than 2. West African Journal of Medicine is the only journal of West African origin in the list of top ten journals where the authors from the subregion published their papers, and it ranked tenth in the top twenty journals used. Nigeria and Ghana published more research in local journals in comparison with other countries, but these journals have very low mean impact factors. The study examines Nipah virus publications retrieved from SCI-Expanded and SSCI database (Web of Science) for the period 1999-2010. Performance indicators used are: total publications, total citations, the activity index, the attractive index and the publication efficiency index. Yearly publication and citation trends indicated an exponential growth. The most active countries involved are USA, Australia, Malaysia, France, Germany and the UK. The USA produced the most papers, has the highest average citations per article and highest h-index. Australia is the most productive country based on per capita followed by Malaysia. The relative citation impact in Nipah virus research by these countries surpassed the world's average. The most active institutions are the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Australia (18.73%); Center for Disease Control and Prevention, USA (14.94%); and University of Malaya, Malaysia (12.41%). We introduce an indicator (DT) to measure the diffusion impact of scientific research. The indicator focuses on the variety of citing sources by giving a full credit when a new citing source makes an appearance, and a tapered credit when a new citing paper appears in an already used existed source. As a preliminary study, we only used a simple example with individual journals as the diffusion units. A sample from a highly interdisciplinary journal, Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, is used to illustrate this procedure. This study examines 462 papers on Nipah virus research published from 1999 to 2010, identifying the active authors, institutions and citations received. Data was extracted from SCI-Expanded database, (Web of Science) and analyzed using descriptive figures and tables. The results show the growth of publication is incremental up to 2010 even though the average citations received is decreasing. The ratio of authors to articles is 1330: 426. The active contributing countries are USA (41.0%), Australia (19.3%), Malaysia (16.0%), England (6.5%) and France (5.6%). The productive authors are mainly affiliated to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, USA and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Australia and University of Malaya Medical Centre, Malaysia. A total of 10572 citations were received and the ratio of articles to citation is 1: 24.8. The objective of the study was to perform a scientometric analysis of all Tsunami related publications as per the Scopus™ database during 1997-2008. A total of 4338 publications and 21107 citations to these papers were received. The parameters studied include growth of publication, country-wise distribution of publications, activity index of countries, most-frequently cited publications, authorship pattern, co-authorship index, and distribution of keywords. United States of America, Japan, United Kingdom, India and Australia produced 54.20% of the total output. In this study, journal articles publication trends among Southeast Asian chemical engineering (CE) researchers from 1996 to 2008 are analyzed through bibliometric means. The focus of the study is on the journal publication trend of CE researchers rather than the publication trend of papers that fall within the area of CE. Bibliometric data are obtained from Scopus, Journal Citation Reports® as well as the SCImago Journal & Country Rank online academic databases. The study shows that Singapore tops the amount of journal articles published by CE researchers from 1996 to 2008, followed by Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. Overall observation indicates that journal articles publication trends among Southeast Asian CE researchers are highly dissimilar and noteworthy. Results accrued from this study are useful indicators for journal publishers to determine the publishing behaviour of CE researchers as well as for each country's science policy makers to formulate appropriate research policies and directions. This paper covers a total of 82 bibliometric studies on single journals (62 studies cover unique titles) published between 1998 and 2008 grouped into the following fields; Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (12 items); Medical and Health Sciences (19 items); Sciences and Technology (30 items) and Library and Information Sciences (21 items). Under each field the studies are described in accordance to their geographical location in the following order, United Kingdom, United States and Americana, Europe, Asia (India, Africa and Malaysia). For each study, elements described are (a) the journal's publication characteristics and indexation information; (b) the objectives; (c) the sampling and bibliometric measures used; and (d) the results observed. A list of journal titles studied is appended. The results show that (a)bibliometric studies cover journals in various fields; (b) there are several revisits of some journals which are considered important; (c) Asian and African contributions is high (41.4% of total studies; 43.5% covering unique titles), United States (30.4% of total; 31.0% on unique titles), Europe (18.2% of total and 14.5% on unique titles) and the United Kingdom (10% of total and 11% on unique titles); (d) a high number of bibliometrists are Indians and as such coverage of Indian journals is high (28% of total studies; 30.6% of unique titles); and (e) the quality of the journals and their importance either nationally or internationally are inferred from their indexation status. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST), and other disciplines by citation analysis. The citation data were drawn from references of each article of JASIST in 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2004. The Ulrich's Periodical Directory, Library of Congress Subject Heading, retrieved from the WorldCat and LISA database were used to identify the main class, subclass and subject of cited journals and books. The results of this study revealed that the production rate of JASIST literature doubles and the average number of references cited per paper is also increased 2 to 3 times in a period of about 25 years. Beginning in 1995, there has been a significant increase in the number of electronic resources and constitutes 5% of all document types in 2004. JASIST itself is the most highly cited, and is followed by four library and information science (LIS) journals, namely Information Processing and Management, Journal of Documentation, Annual Review of Information Science and Technology and Journal of Information Science. The number of countries publishing the cited journal increases from 9 to 26 within 25 years. The three main classes of journals that were cited by JASIST most are library science (50%), science (22.7%) and social sciences (6.3%). The three subclasses of LIS encompass general bibliography, machine methods of information & retrieval and mechanized bibliographic control and library & information science. The top five most cited books of JASIST are Smart Retrieval System—Experiments in Automatic Document Processing, Introduction to Modern Information Retrieval, Information Retrieval, Little Science and Big Science, Information Seeking in Electronic Environments, Information Retrieval: Data Structure and Algorithms. The most cited books of JASIST are quite dispersive and science is the most cited class followed by LIS, social sciences, philosophy/psychology/religion, and the most cited subject is computerized information retrieval and mechanized bibliographic control. This paper analyses publication and citation patterns in the Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science (MJLIS) from 2001-2006, and compares the results with those obtained in an earlier study by Tiew et al. (2002) covering the period 1996-2000. Our results show that the number of publications has increased from the 76 articles in the Tiew study to 85 articles here, with statistically significant changes in the types of article, in the numbers of references per article and in the lengths of the articles. This paper presents the results of a bibliometric analysis of nutrition literature of Bangladesh. A list of periodical articles on various aspects of nutrition research of Bangladesh published during 1972 - 2006 was compiled for analysis. A total of 636 articles by 998 authors were identified. The articles were published in 100 local and foreign journals. The five-yearly distribution of nutrition literature shows that there is a rapid growth of nutrition literature from 1987 onwards. The study has been conducted with 358 original contributions published in the journal Economic Botany during 1994-2003. Contributions by single author and small teams comprising two or three authors account for about 80% of the papers. Among the citations, books accounted for 59%, and articles 41%. E citations started appearing from 1998 are still negligible in number. Charts, diagrams, photos and tables included in the articles total 396, 427, 859 and 925 respectively. The length of maximum number of articles (38%) ranges from six to 10 pages. Articles occupying 11 to 15 pages rank next accounting for 31%. The highest number of articles totaling 217 (60.61%) has emanated from academic institutions such as universities. The articles originate from 45 countries. Scientrometric analysis of 1733 papers published by the teams comprising total of 926 participating scientists at Chemistry Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) during 1970-1999 in the domains: Radiation & Photochemistry and Chemical Dynamics (649), Solid State Studies (558), Inorganic, Structural and Materials Chemistry (460) and Theoretical Chemistry (66) were analysed for year wise productivity, authorship pattern and collaboration. The highest number of publications in a year were 98 and 104 produced in 1989 and 1996 respectively. The average number of publications per year was 57.76 The highest collaboration coefficient 1.0 was in 1977 and 1999. The authors with most prolific publications were J. P. Mittal (204), R. M Iyer (190), J. V. Yakhmi (156), V. K. Jain (106), Hari Mohan (96), K. N. Rao (92), I. K. Gopalakrishnan (80), P. N. Moorthy (78), T. Mukherjee (77), and S. K. Kulshreshtha (74). The core journals preferred for publishing with high number of publications were: indian Journal of chemistry - A (96), Radiation Physics and Chemistry (92), Chemical Physics Letters (67), Journal of Physical Chemistry (59) and Indian Journal of Chemistry (45). Publication concentration was 28.57% and publication density was 5.48. The main focus of this paper is to look at the role of the Library and Information Science (LIS) journal as a channel for communicating innovative ideas that could be used for the continuing education of information professionals. Wolfgang Ketterle was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physics (2001) at 44 years of biological age and at 20 years of research publishing career. He had 115 publications during 1982 - 2002 in domains: Bose-Einstein Condensation (68), Laser Spectroscopy (30), and Atomic Physics (17) which were analysed for authorship pattern with his 68 collaborators. The most active researchers having number of publications with Ketterle were: S. Inouye (26), A. P. Chikkatur (20), M R. Andrews 09), D. M. Stampur-Kurn (18), D. S. Durfee (17), H. J. Miesner (17) and D. E. Pritchard (17). His productivity coefficient was 0.78 which clearly indicates that his productivity increased after 50 percentile age. The highest collaboration coefficient (1) for Ketterle was found in 1983-1985, 1988, 1991-1995,: and 2001. The publication concentration was 5.21% and publication density was 2.01. The core journals publishing his papers were: Phys. Rev. Left. (30), Applied Physics-B (7), Journal of Chemical Physics (5), Nature (5), Physics Review-A (5), and Science (5). We study the bibliometric or formal aspects influencing citations. In particular, we verify the existence or otherwise of bibliometric aspects which displayed significant differences between the group of top 1% most cited articles according to their field and year of publication (highly cited articles) and the remaining articles. This may allow scientific journals to have evidence when writing their submission rules for authors in order to maximize the impact of published articles. We did a large-scale analysis of around 10,000 scientific articles, from the period 2007-2016. A transversal analysis was conducted disaggregating the articles into more than one hundred scientific areas and two groups, each with a random sample of around five thousand documents. The first group comprised a random sample of the top 1% most cited articles in each field and year of publication (highly cited articles), and the second group a random sample of the remaining articles in the Journal Citation Reports (science and social science citation indexes in the Web of Science database). Highly cited articles differ from non-highly cited articles in most of the bibliometric aspects considered. There are significant differences, below the 0.01 level, between the groups of articles in many variables and areas. The highly cited articles are published in journals of higher impact factor (33 percentile points above) and have 25% higher co-authorship. The highly cited articles are also longer in terms of number of pages (10% higher) and bibliographical references (35% more).
