Introduction: Hemichorea-hemiballism (HCHB) is an uncommon movement disorder involved unilateral extremities characterized by irregular, poorly patterned, a continual hyperkinetic involuntary movement disorder in the proximal or distal parts of the body. The acute development of HCHB depends on focal lesions on the contralateral basal ganglia and subthalamic nuclei. Various conditions such as cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, neoplastic, immunologic, infectious, and metabolic diseases are known as secondary causes of HCHB. This paper aims to compare and discuss the HCHB in various etiologies. Case Reports: Here, we reported 5 cases of HCHB induced by non-ketotic hyperosmolar hyperglycemia (NKKH), thrombotic stroke, and toxoplasmosis cerebral. We compare the admission data, clinical course, imaging, treatment, and outcome of every case. Conclusion: Various hypotheses have been proposed to explain the pathophysiology of HCHB due to these conditions. Principally, the main management for these cases is to determine the etiology and correct the underlying disorder

ackground. Stroke still becomes one of the most mortality and disability factor in the world. There is limited studies of von Willebrand factor (vWF) and thrombotic stroke, escpecially the relationship between level of vWF and functional neurological deficit. Objective. This study aims to determine the difference between functional neurological deficit; measured by the NIHSS scale with the vWF level. Methods. Design study was cross sectional, sampling by consecutive admission according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood samples were taken for vWF measurement. Patients are divided into two categories, low vWF level (less than 1,31 IU/ml) and high vWF levels (more than or equal than 1,31 IU/ml). Deficit functional neurologist was measured by NIHSS scale. Results. The results was analyzed by chi square. From 80 patients, the result compares the level of NIHSS scale. In grup with mild NIHSS and low vWF levels ( 50 %) higher than grup with mild NIHSS and high vWF levels (27,27 %). In other side, grup with moderate NIHSS and low vWF levels (50 %) more lower than grup with moderate NIHSS and high vWF levels (72,73 %). The difference is not significant statistically (p=0.067). Conclusion. There was no difference between deficit functional neurologist measured by NIHSS scale with von Willebrand factor levels in acute thrombotic stroke patients.
