Individual semiflexible ring polymersin a steady shear flow arestudied by the multiparticle collision dynamics method combined withmolecular dynamics simulations. We report the effects of chain stiffnesson the conformational, dynamical, and rheological properties of ringpolymers. When the Weissenberg numbers are smaller than unity, thebehavior of semiflexible ring polymers is consistent with that offlexible ones. For larger Weissenberg numbers, the effects of chainstiffness are observed. We find that the radius of gyration tensorelements, the orientation resistance parameter, and the alignmentdistribution functions show strong stiffness dependences. The scalingbehavior of tumbling motion corresponding to large conformationalchanges is found independent of chain stiffness, while the scalingbehavior of tank-treading motion corresponding to the motion of monomersmoving along the contour of the chain exhibits a chain stiffness dependencein the crossover regime from a flexible to a rigid ring polymer. Chainrigidities are found to have negligible effects on the polymer shearviscosity. The simulations reveal the similarities and differencesin the nonequilibrium behavior of flexible and semiflexible ring polymers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
