When treating the topic of sin, the tongue's sins are often omitted. Nevertheless, they seriously jeopardize human relationships and social harmony, just as much as evil acts. When addressed, however, these sins are not given due importance. As St. James affirms: "[...] the tongue is a small member and yet has great pretensions. Consider how small a fire can set a huge forest ablaze. The tongue is also a fire. It exists among our members as a world of malice [...] and setting the entire course of our lives on fire, itself set on fire by Gehenna" (James 3:5-6). As such, this article will present the sins of the tongue according to St. Thomas Aquinas, in order to demonstrate that they negatively influence our self-realization and that of others, and social well-being. This work presents the influence of the conscience in the act of the will's choosing, in light of the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas. As such, the role of reason in the apprehension of the good is analyzed. The moral dictates of reason are explained through synderesis, whose application to particular acts takes place through the act of conscience. In turn, before the will chooses something, a prior investigation of reason, the consilium, or deliberation is necessary, in order to achieve certainty regarding what should be done. Thus, the judgment of practical reason takes place after deliberation, guiding the will inclined to seek good. The Mystery of Holy Trinity was unknown in the Old Testament, and after the Incarnation of the Verb, in spite the fact that the sublime mystery has been revealed by Our Lord, it took several centuries to materialize into trinitarian theology, and even be forged the term Most Holy Trinity. Theological investigations have led meanwhile to discern specific aspects of the Three Persons of the Holy Trinity in creation, enriching, through symbolic theology, dogmatic theology.
