One of the important tasks is to deliver to the consumer a calibrated high-quality metal in a saleable condition, which requires protection from atmospheric corrosion and adverse climatic factors, protection from contamination and mechanical damage for the period of transportation to the consumer by motor transport, and storage at intermediate warehouses before going into production. A comprehensive system approach is needed to preserve the quality and appearance of the products on the way from the manufacturer to the consumer. The use of modern packaging materials, such as paper with corrosion inhibitor and polypropylene fabric reinforcement, will allow to obtain permanent guaranteed protection of the rolled surface and expands the possibilities of transportation and sales markets of metal products. The testing stage of the corrosion inhibitor included the determination of its protective properties. It is established that the advantage of packaging of rolled products in anticorrosive paper is that it, combining the functions of packaging means and means of preservation, allows you to completely abandon the expensive and time-consuming preservation of metal products with oils and greases. The use of a volatile corrosion inhibitor in the composition of the paper provides full protection of rolled products.

The paper gives an assessment of existing casting methods used for manufacturing products from aluminum materials with carbon filling compounds. It presents results of comparative studies of properties of aluminum materials in which microcrystalline graphite, fullerene black, nanotubes and an amorphous phase of glass carbon have been used as filling compounds.

Discusses the problems of protecting the goods during transport from exposure to high humidity and ways of its solutions; the presence of some consumers ‘ requirements for adherence to the maximum values of humidity and confirmation of its actual value in the packed products; the use of paper humidity indicators to control the environment during transit; the principle of operation of the indicator based on the change in color of cobalt salts depending on the composition of the crystalline.There is a lack of methodology for quality control of paper humidity indicators. The method developed by the laboratory of OJSC «BSW» – Management Company of the Holding «BMC», to determine their sensitivity and accuracy is given. The essence of the test is to assemble an installation that provides a certain value of air humidity. To do this, we use solutions of sulfuric acid of the appropriate concentrations. Air is passed first through water, then through solutions and fed into a flask with an indicator. Depending on the humidity of the supplied air, the corresponding indicator points change colour. Sensitivity and accuracy are evaluated on a colour scale.

The paper analyses production of reusable ceramic insulating inserts applied in permanent mold casting of aluminum alloys. It presents results of manufacturing of ceramic products from synthesized materials based on wollastonite, secondary grog, aluminum slag, etc. The paper demonstrates prospects of their applying.

The paper analyzes the mineral acid vapors formation and their interaction with protective coatings based on bentonite clays, periclasite and shungite. A theoretical assessment of the acid vapor in the exhaust gases amount was carried out taking into account the performance of furnaces. Thermodynamic probability of acid vapor formation was calculated depending on the melting conditions for different types of melting units, the interaction of acid vapor with the components of protective coatings based on bentonite clays, periclasite and shungite was estimated.

The paper considers the possibility of assessing the plasticity of aluminum alloys and aluminum matrix composites by the method of quasi‑static and micro‑impact indentation at pre‑impact velocities in the range of 1–3 m/s. It is proposed to use a pyramidal Vickers indenter for testing, which allows creating a constant amount of deformation. The characteristic plasticity values for industrial aluminum alloys and aluminum matrix composites of the Al‑Fe‑Cr system δ=0.83–0.98 are established. The influence of the deformation rate on the dynamicity coefficient Kd, which is the ratio of dynamic and static hardness, is shown. It was found that the increase in Kd for aluminum matrix composites is more significant than for other materials. At the same time, the well‑known expression linking plasticity with other mechanical characteristics: hardness HV and modulus of elasticity E, is not fulfilled for the studied aluminum matrix composites. The difference in the values of δ, calculated based on the parameters of the print and as a function of E/HV, can serve as an additional sign of the atypical behavior of materials during deformation.

The paper presents the results of studies on the production of composites during the processing of aluminum melt based on high‑strength alloy B95 activated dispersed particles of nitrides (AlN, Si3N4, TiN), carbides (SiC, TiC), nanostructured carbon (fullerene carbon black), nitrogen‑containing components (glycine C2H5NO2, carbamide CH4N2O). The evaluation of the strength properties of the obtained composites from the activation modes of the charge with dispersed particles and the modes of heat treatment of the material is given. The possibility of increasing the strength characteristics of the casting composite by 15–20 % due to additional mechanical activation of the charge and achieving, after heat treatment, the compressive strength of 900–1050 MPa, hardness of 150–160 NV, elastic modulus of 20–25 GPa is shown.

Threads and fibers of different origin are considered as artifacts of sample preparation of metallographic sections, as well as samples of some materials. The role of various methods of optical contrasting – dark‑field illumination, polarized light – in the analysis of paper, natural and artificial fibers is illustrated. The presented materials can be used by materials scientists to identify errors in sample preparation, as well as to describe non‑traditional metallographic objects.

This paper presents an analysis of the use of organic solvents in paint systems used in high quality treatment of car bodies in the period from 1998 to 2020. Nowadays it is possible to solve the problem of high efficiency corrosion protection and decorative and water-repellent properties of the protective layer with the help of painting systems. Paint systems include primers, putties, varnishes, paints, polishes, etc., usually from a single manufacturer.

The paper presents the results of comparison of quality indices of brake shoes for railroad rolling stock made of synthetic cast iron smelted in induction furnaces and of composite material which is a vulcanized mixture of rubber and different fillers. Disclosed are the disadvantages of composite brake pads. Defects of the working surface of the railway rolling stock wheels rolling surface caused by the application of composite brake pads made of rubber-asbestos or rubber-asbestos mixture are shown. Parameters of C, Si, Mn, P, S content and carbon equivalent distribution in cast iron used for the production of «M» type brake shoes according to GOST 30249-97 are analysed. It is established that the hardness and fracture strength of pads do not correlate with the content of chemical elements in cast iron and its carbon equivalent. The ranges of C, Si, Mn, P, S distributions in the specified purpose cast iron are much narrower than the allowable limits of these elements specified in GOST 30249–97. Suggestions for improving the standards are given.

Copper-based powder materials have found their application in many industries. These include classical powder metallurgy, automotive and aviation industries, microelectronics, instrument engineering, and nanotechnology. In this paper, the processes of forming and sintering copper powders obtained by various methods are considered. The main part of the research was carried out on powders of the PMS-1 brand obtained by electrolysis. Four batches of samples (18 pieces each) were pressed at different pressures. Based on the results of the research, a molding mode was proposed, which should ensure the density of blanks not less than 70 % of the density of compact material. To find the simplest and most rational modes of sintering blanks, the process was carried out in air and in dissociated ammonia. The parameters of the samples were calculated after each technological operation, and the volume shrinkage of the samples was calculated depending on the initial density. Draft tests were carried out. Sediment tests were performed up to a maximum pressure of 400 MPa. Despite the fact that the degree of high-altitude deformation was 37–40 %, none of the samples collapsed during the tests, and no visible cracks were observed. Based on preliminary experiments, the masses and forming modes of rectangular blanks that were used for equal channel angular pressing were calculated. Equal channel angular pressing was performed for two samples parties obtained using different sintering modes. When pressing the first samples party, the lack of the required level of back pressure led to either a complete or significant violation of the material integrity. Before pressing the samples of the second party, a copper sample was previously placed into the channel to create a natural backpressure. It was also possible in principle to carry out the process of equal channel angular pressing of porous sintered workpieces without violating the integrity of the material.

In this paper, a new forging technology realizing intense shear deformations during processing with a tool for its implementation was considered, and the influence of the proposed forging technology on the microstructure evolution of 7CrMn2WMo economy‑alloyed steel was revealed. A comparative analysis of the results of the microstructure evolution when forging blanks made of 7CrMn2WMo steel according to the proposed and current technologies proves the usefulness of a new design tool instead of the currently used flat strikers, since forging in the proposed forging tool provides more intensive and uniform processing of the cast structure over the entire section of the workpiece compared to forging in the flat strikers.

The paper presents the results of experimental studies of the structural characteristics of layered composites based on the Fe‑Al system; obtained using various solid‑phase methods of material deformation (hydropercussion stamping; cross‑wedge rolling) and a liquid‑phase (metallurgical) method for producing multilayer composites.

At the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine, which uses a large number of machine parts for mining operations, the issue of optimizing the compositions of wear-resistant chromium cast irons while maintaining their operational characteristics has arisen. The paper presents the results of studying the phase composition of the cast alloy, as well as the effect of heat treatment of cast iron with a high chromium content on its structure and properties. As heat treatment operations, quenching in various modes and low tempering were used. The study made it possible to systematize the known literature data on the heat treatment parameters of a group of wear-resistant chromium cast irons, as well as to optimize their heat treatment modes for parts operating in mining and processing industry.

The aim of the paper is investigation of neutralization of solvent vapors of the brand 646 by an adsorption-catalytic method. The adsorption-catalytic method includes the following stages: adsorption of the solvent components by adsorbent, thermal desorption and periodic flameless catalytic oxidation of organic substances to carbon dioxide and water. Synthetic zeolite of the NaX brand was used as a sorbent, catalyst was porous Al2O3/SiO2 ceramic foam material with an active catalytic phase. Solvent contains aceton, toluene, butylacetate, ethanol, ethyl cellosolve, n-butanol. It is shown that the value of the sorption volume of zeolite for each class of compounds depends on the certain factors: the length and structure of the carbon skeleton, the position of the hydroxyl group (for alcohols and esters), number of methyl groups in the molecules (for benzene derivatives). The conversion of the mixed solvent components was 65.4–90.1 %.

The article deals with the issues of processing of dust from electric steelmaking production by the method of thermodynamic extraction of iron, zinc and lead in order to reduce the environmental impact and increase the resource base of the industry. The paper presents various methods of zinc extraction from dust and gas purification, thermodynamic calculation of the decomposition and reclaiming of zinc ferrite.

The paper considers ways to assess the efficiency of using alternative sources of heat when melting alloys in electric arc furnaces. The focus is on increasing furnace productivity and reducing production costs. The analysis of the use of various systems for intensifying melting in arc furnaces and their main indicators is carried out. An assessment of the efficiency of fuel use in electric arc furnaces has been carried out. The expected economic effect from the introduction of alternative energy sources in electric furnaces has been calculated. It is shown that the economic effect from the introduction of alternative energy sources on electric arc furnaces depends significantly on the increase in furnace productivity.

The paper considers the possibility of intensifying isothermal holding processes during quenching of high-strength cast irons by using an external source of physical impact in the form of ultrasonic waves. For experimental evaluation of this effect in the laboratory of MiAM of the Physical-Technical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, prototypes of highstrength cast irons were cast in an ISV 0.004 crucible induction furnace. A mixture of NaNO2 and KNO3 salts in a 1:1 ratio was used as a liquid cooling medium during quenching. Ultrasonic treatment of the salt melt during the cooling of the samples was carried out using an UZG-20–15 generator in cooperation with the ITA of NAS of Belarus. The mechanical properties and structure of the treated cast irons were determined both in the cast state and after isothermal quenching.To study the effect of ultrasonic treatment of the quenching bath on the formation of the structure and properties of highstrength cast irons during isothermal quenching, a number of comparative experiments were carried out, consisting in cooling the samples from 910 °C to 350 °C with and without the use of dynamic waves to the bath. With the help of metallographic analysis, measurements of hardness and friction coefficient, the beneficial effect of ultrasonic treatment of the cooling medium on the structure and properties is shown, which is reflected in an increase in the uniformity of the distribution of hardness over the cross section of cast iron and in its wear resistance, as well as a reduction in the isothermal holding time by up to two times.

The paper gives a general description of the areas of application of bentonite clays. A number of deposits were evaluated in terms of their use in various technological processes. Analysis of directions of application of bentonite clays in foundry was carried out.Using the methods of X-ray and gas chromatographic analysis, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and direct adsorption-structural measurements, it is shown that materials obtained from montmorillonite and heteronuclear hydroxo complexes Cr-Cu have greater thermal stability and better sorption characteristics compared to montmorillonite fixed by mononuclear hydroxo complexesUsing montmorillonite modified with heteronuclear hydroxo complexes Cr-Cu with the best adsorption-structural parameters and zeolite NCVM, a laboratory batch of mixed adsorbent catalysts has been developed.This material has been studied in deep vapor oxidation processes of low concentrated organic substances such as acetone, toluene, ethyl acetate, ethanol, butanol and butyl acetate.The conversion rate on the mixed adsorbent catalysts for the studied adsorbates was found to be 94.9–97.7 (average 96.2 %).

The article considers the possibility of contamination of the surface of steel samples with abrasive materials when preparing samples for determining the chemical composition on optical emission spectrometers.The standards for sample preparation methods describe in detail the methods of surface treatment, the materials used, and the requirements for the quality of the analyzed surface. The sample surface can be milled or sanded using various abrasive materials. In practice, the laboratory found that the surface of samples during sample preparation is contaminated with aluminum and calcium.In order to determine how the contamination of analytical surfaces occurs, the chemical composition of all materials used in the preparation of samples was studied, and an experiment was conducted to establish a method for preparing the sample surface that does not lead to contamination of the surface with aluminum and calcium. For the experiment, three standard samples of steel composition were selected with certified values of the mass fraction of aluminum and calcium in different ranges. The surface of each sample was processed in three ways and optical emission spectral analysis was performed on each analytical surface at five points to determine the value of the mass fraction of aluminum and calcium and to estimate the spread of the results obtained. As a result of tests it was found that by grinding the sample surface by using abrasive white corundum and abrasive paper grit P40 is the surface contamination of the analyzed sample in aluminum and calcium, therefore, when determining the mass fraction of aluminium and calcium in steel are required for surface preparation to use the method of milling.

This paper presents approaches to the computational analysis of solidification and cooling processes of continuously cast billets in order to improve and develop technological modes in the conditions of modern continuous casting machines using FEM.The application of modern numerical methods for solidification and cooling of workpieces on continuous casting machines is considered. The use of the finite element method is justified when using computational and experimental data for the development and improvement of casting technology.

The paper presents a thermophysical analysis of modifying the surface of a workpiece by laser radiation due to the melting of a layer of a doping substance previously deposited on the surface of the base metal.The process of heating a two-layer metallic system with a laser pulse with a normal distribution of power density over the beam section is considered. Under the action of a heat source of constant power, moving in a straight line at a constant speed, the process of heat propagation tends to the limiting quasistationary state, when the temperature field does not change with time and moves along with the source.The dependences obtained allow us to estimate the effect of the laser treatment mode on the distribution of temperature fields, establish the patterns of heat propagation and relate them to phase transformations in the metal.It has been established that the technological modes of exposure to laser radiation are limited by the value of the energy per pulse from 4 to 12 J. The choice of technological modes of exposure is determined by the combination of the scanning speed of the laser beam and the radiation power.

To meet specific tribotechnical problems surface coatings require special properties, e. g. the formation of a friction film to increase wear resistance by implementing the principle of Sharpie. The paper deals with the technological aspects of creating such coatings on iron-containing alloys by combining laser and induction surfacing to obtain a wear-resistant composite coating. Within research, a coating with a composite structure on a substrate of steel 45 with a copper matrix and a reinforcing phase on the basis of Nickel-iron rollers obtained by laser cladding was obtained. The interface between the components of the composite material is studied. The results of studies of the chemical composition and microhardness of the composite coatings are presented. As studies have shown, the use of laser-induction surfacing allows to form a coating of stable quality with minimal consumption of matrix alloy. The proposed technology makes it possible to create a range of different types of composite coatings on iron-containing alloys for different friction velocities and degrees of load by varying the frequency of the reinforcing mesh and the tupe of filler powders.

This paper describes the factors that affect gas content in castings during pressure molding. The possibility of removing air and gases from the cavity of the mold through the ventilation channels in the process of filling it with liquid metal is considered. It is shown that the previously used assumption about the outflow of gases from the mold as through a hole in a thin wall is not correct. The calculations, taking into account the friction factor in narrow ventilation ducts, showed that the required crosssectional area of the ventilation ducts increases 4–6 times with a depth of 0,12 mm. If the obtained value of the cross-sectional area of the ventilation ducts is not possible to realize, at a given depth, it is proposed to use an accompanying vacuum to solve the problem.

The aim of the present paper is investigation of removal of Fe3+ and Pb2+ ions from aqueous media by material on the basis of steel melting slag. It has been established that the process of water purification from Fe3+ and Pb2+ ions by this material proceeds by a mixed mechanism both due to the formation of slightly soluble silicates and also due to the formation of hydroxides. When the filtration rate varies from 2 to 10 column volumes per hour, the percentage of sorption remains within 91,5–99,8%. The most optimal filtration rate is 6 column volumes per hour. Material on the basis of steel melting slag absorbs of Fe (III) up to 5 mg-eq/g and Pb (II) 0.64–1.27 mg-eq/g.

The coatings based on silicides of various metals are widely used in various industries by vacuum-plasma processes for products treatment. The quality of such coatings is determined by the degree of chemical purity of the target cathode, the correct choice of a mixture of process gases and the level of accelerating potential supplied to the substrate. Traditional methods for producing multi-component targets have a number of disadvantages, such as: high residual porosity, excess content of impurities, as well as the need for expensive equipment.The use of casting technologies in the production of target cathodes is promising. The paper presents the generalized results of experimental studies of manufacturing target cathodes for vacuum ion-plasma sources by methods of reduction and high-speed induction melting. Silicides of titanium, copper and nickel were used as the material.

Casted composite materials have found application in various branches of industrial production. However, there are still a number of problems related to the choice of optimal technology for their synthesis and the solution of which will help to achieve in practice high level of properties predicted by the theory and provide the control of interfacial interactions to enhance the stability of the structure and properties of composites. There is s need in additional research related to the development of new types of reinforcing elements, which will provide the raise in the level of performance of the composite. It is established that an important role plays not only the type of the matrix but also the chemical composition and microstructure of the reinforcing material. This would require research on optimization of technology for production of composite materials during the solid-liquid synthesis. The paper presents generalized results of experimental studies of peculiarities during the formation of composite materials on the basis of bronze and iron granules with the use of high-speed induction melting. As reinforcing phase iron granules DCHL with a diameter of about 1 mm were used.

The paper presents the results of research on the use of recycled aluminum waste (RAW) during extra-furnace steel processing in ladle refining furnace. It has been established that simultaneously with the deoxidation of refining slags before desulfurization of steel, their liquid mobility increases, which eliminates the need for using fluorspar for these purposes.A thermodynamic analysis of possible reactions of formation of aluminates and calcium aluminosilicates in the refining slag has been carried out. It has been suggested that the cause of thinning of refining slags from the addition of RAW is the formation of a number of low-melting eutectics containing aluminates and calcium aluminosilicates. The composition of briquettes based on RAW for liquefaction of refining slags is proposed. Dependence of the friability and breaking load of briquettes on the content of CaO, the temperature and drying time is established. The data on the composition and properties of the refining slag after treatment with a diluent based on RAW are given.

The paper discusses ways to intensify the heat exchange of the casting in the mold of particulate filler. These methods include the supply of refrigerant to the mold, the dynamic and aerodynamic movement of the refractory filler around the casting. The examples of application of these methods to increase the local properties of cast iron cylinder block body are shown. Application of aerodynamic movement of molding material for aluminum castings has allowed to increase their mechanical properties in 1,3–1,6 times.

The paper presents the results of research on the melting of aluminum chips and slag in a short-flame rotary furnace. Variants of the use of secondary waste products for out-of-furnace treatment of steel in the form of deoxidizers and diluents of refining slag are suggested.

The paper presents the results of experimental studies on the surface coating of powder EuTroLoy 16006.04 with the help of plasma-powder overlaying. Analysis of the macro-structure made it possible to establish a partial absence of pores, fusions and cracks between the sub-spoon and the deposited layer. Differences in the phase composition and in the mechanical properties of the coatings were established. In places of application of plasma-powder overlaying an increase in hardness has been revealed.

The paper presents the main technical specifications of galvanized low carbon wire for muzzles (bottle’hood wire), consistent with the exploitation requirements to the wire in the manufacture and use of muzzles. The main criteria when selecting the steel grade and upon selection of the technological processes are given.

Processes of high-speed shaping change and especially high-speed hot extrusion create efficient conditions for treatment of low plastic and difficult-to-form materials which are widely used in tool making production. Due to the fact that high-speed stamping provides accurate billets with increased mechanical properties, it can be used as a technological process for manufacturing rod parts of die tooling operating under the increased loads and high wear. The purpose of the paper is to carry out experimental investigation of the possibility to obtain bimetallic rod stamping tooling by high-speed hot extrusion in high-temperature mode treatment in order to save die steels and improve the quality of the products obtained. Microstructures of the bimetallic compounds obtained with the help of high-speed hot extrusion method for compositions of structural and high-alloy steels have been investigated and their high quality has been proved during the investigations. Dependences of micro-hardness distribution have been established outbound two steel contact plane in the zone of connection that are characterized by a minimum micro-hardness value in the connection joint. Availability of more plastic zone in the contact plane contributes to reduction of residual stresses due to their relaxation in this zone and higher joint strength.

The paper describes the effect of ultrasound activation of dolomite, which is used for producing refractory material by the SHS method, on the final product. X-ray investigation has demonstrated that ultrasound activation of the initial charge brings about changes in the phase composition of the synthesized product.

The paper presents a methodology that allows to estimate the energy efficiency of the furnace modernization by replacing the enwall, as well as to determine the feasibility of using a multi-layer structure depending on the operating temperature of the furnace and the heat transfer conditions at the surface. The methodology, which allows to calculate the temperature of the surface of the lining on cooling during the upload-download details.

Motor is one of most important part of automobile determine its economical effectiveness of usage. On the other hand, sleeves, pistons and rings are crucible parts as they determine the service life of a motor. These parts are producing in big scale – dozens of millions pieces. Increase of cylinder sleeves physical-mechanical properties results in prolongation of motor service life and improvement of motor’s characteristics. Nowadays low alloyed cast irons with perlite structure are used to manufacture motor’s sleeves. For alloying purposes such traditional elements as Cr, Ni, Cu, and V are applied. But it is interesting to use molybdenum for cast iron alloying. It is known that alloying of alloys allows considerable increasing of consumption properties of castings. But in spite of advantages of alloys alloying the increase of molybdenum containing iron-carbon alloys production is restricted by economical reasons – high cost of alloying additions. Expenditures on alloying additions can be reduced by the application cheap secondary alloys in the charge. So, the present paper is devoted to investigation of alloying peculiarities during the treatment of ferrous alloys with molybdenum applying different initial materials.

The paper presents the results of the research in phase-structured transformation proceeding in the process of mechanical alloying of compositions of systems «parent metal – alloying oxide – alloying metal with high oxygen affinity, aimed at determining the place and function of the thermodynamic agent in this process.

The paper presents the results of a study on the effect of a method for dispersing the size of the component of the dispersed phase separation coatings used in high pressure die casting aluminum alloys.

The paper dwells upon the necessity to increase the operating life of the toothed gearing of skidder transmission by means of strengthening by complex borating. The methodology of comparative testing of tooth gear as well as the stand construction are described. The causes of destruction of tooth gear surface strengthened by different methods have been determined.

The effect of heat treatment on the structure of the eutectic Al-Si-alloy, a theoretical substantiation process based on thermal analyzer and cooked microstructures was presented in this paper.

The present paper describes a developed analyzing system of roll surface during the process of continuous hot dip zinc coated steel sheet production line, in particular, adhering problem by transferred inclusions from roll to steel sheet surface during annealing process so called the pickup. The simulated test machine for coated roll surface in processing line has been designed and performed. The system makes it possible to analyze roll surface condition according to pickup phenomena from various roll coatings concerning operating conditions of hearth rolls in annealing furnace. The algorithm of fast pickup detection on surface is developed on the base of processing of several optical images of surface. The parameters for quality estimation of surface with pickups were developed. The optical system for images registration and image processing electronics may be used in real time and embed in processing line.

The research aimed at figuring out dependence of the technological properties (density, thickness of the coating, reduced strength and sedimentation stability) of the suspensions for nonstick coatings on the for activation time powder quartz graphite filler. It is shown that with increasing activation time to 10 minutes all the basic properties of graphite suspension powder quartz were improved. The paper presents the results of comparative studies of technological properties of suspensions of activated graphite oxide compositions prepared on the basis of activated aluminum oxide and periclase. The resulting suspension may be recommended for cast iron and non-ferrous castings.

The paper discusses determination of materials porosity by the method of comparison defined in the standard GOST 9391–80 «Hard sintered alloys. Methods used for porosity and microstructure determination». The necessity and possibility of porosity assessment by the method of computer planimetry are shown. Using GOST 9391 standard scales the porosity was determined by means of the «Image SP» program for processing of images. It is shown that the error of determining the porosity is associated with a low quality of graphic material which also makes difficult determination of porosity by the method of comparison.

The paper presents the results of researches of steels used for the manufacture of imported chipper knives. Recommendations on the choice of steel grades from the CIS countries, similar on the properties of the imported knives. For the manufacture of pilot batches of blades for cutting wood chips were selected steels 5ХНВС, 6ХВ2С, intended for testing of the woodworking enterprises of the Republic of Belarus.

The paper shows that wear resistance of new modified babbit material (MBM) is by an order of magnitude higher than that of the Б83 State Standard 1320-74 standard babbit material. Therefore, the latter can be recommended for restoration of sliding bearings that are used in gascompressor units.
