This paper contemplates the repercussions of "post-truth" discourse for the epistemological foundations of so-called "postmodern" discursive research, particularly in the field of contemporary Narrative Analysis (GEORGAKOPOULOU, 2006). Based on an understanding of social research as metanarrative practice, it reflects on the potential for narrative events -- junctures at which these metanarratives find themselves in dialogue with varied interlocutors - as moments in which validity may be constructed. It further suggests that narrative practice may be pivotal in bridging the gap between the alleged poles of emotion and reason, enabling social issues discredited by post-truth discourse to be seen from new angles. Finally, drawing on a dialogical approach (BAKHTIN, 1997), it considers the possibilities for such narratives to stretch conventional boundaries -- both those between different fields of study and those between academia and society more widely speaking -- with the aim of engendering social transformation.
