Classic papers are novel facilities of Google scholar. These papers were first developed by Google scholar in May 2017. Classic papers have been considered highly cited papers since last 10 years. Effective authors, institutions, universities, and countries on improving science can be identified by analyzing the papers. Therefore, this study aims to examine characteristics of classic papers of Library and Information Science (LIS). This study will use Scientometrics indicators. The study sample includes LIS classic papers. To gather the data, some databases such as Google scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus are applied. Excel and SPSS applications are used for descriptive and statistical analyses. The study data indicate that Scientometrics journal covers most classic papers on LIS (5 papers). 60% of the papers are written by more than one author. A paper of "Usage Pattern of Collaborating Tagging System" is highly cited paper of LIS with 3051 and 1308 citations on Google scholar and Scopus respectively. Analysis of authors' affiliation shows that American universities and institutions play considerable role in LIS classic papers. The data of statistical tests indicate that there is a positive significant correlation between citations of classic papers of Google scholar, Scopus and Web of Science. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper examined the challenges of maintenance of paper based archival information materials and strategies for enhancement in academic libraries in South East, Nigeria which doubled as the objectives of the study. Descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The population consisted of 277 library staff in academic libraries of government owned institutions. Questionnaire and structured interview guide was used to collect data which was analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20. Mean scores and standard deviation were used to analyze data generated for the two research questions while ttest was used for the hypothesis. Real limits of numbers were used to determine the bench mark. The major findings of the study showed the challenges involved in maintenance of archival materials to include inadequate funding and tropical climate that breeds insects. The strategies involved in archival maintenance practices include: recruiting adequate personnel in libraries, provision of maintenance policies, adequate funding of libraries for proper maintenance of archives, proper control of insect by the use of insecticides and adequate training of maintenance personnel. The hypothesis tested revealed that there is no significant difference in the mean ratings between the male and female library staff in respect to strategies for maintenance practices of paper based archival paper materials in the academic libraries. The paper recommended that the library administrators should engage qualified and competent staff on the field of Library and Information Science and ICT to ensure adequate maintenance of archival materials in academic libraries. The present paper describes the Canadian Journal of Information and library science (CJILS) research output between 1993-2021. All articles published since 1993 were analyzed for publication. The result reveals that 337 articles, book reviews, editorial and conference papers were published during 1993 to 2021. Authorship patterns, geographical locations of authors, keywords and contributions of various institutions from different continents were brought into consideration for this study. Longitudinal trends are noted in this research and the data were compared with earlier descriptions of information science in Canada. The result shows that majority of works were contributed by scholars from Canada. Noticing the year-wise contributions, it was found that the year 2015 was good by contributing 22 papers in CJILS. Among the most prominent institutions, The University of Western Ontario produced total 54 papers. Among the most prominent authorship, Julien, H. remained in the top position with ten articles at this journal. The current study aims to evaluate the Scopus-indexed publications of Professor Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Chairperson, Department of Library and Information Sciences (LIS) at Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan. She obtained her Master's degree in LIS in 1991 from IUB, later she joined IUB as a Lecturer in the Department of LIS in 1993. She completed her Ph.D. at The University of Manchester, United Kingdom in 2003. She is the most productive LIS author belonging to the Southern part of Punjab province in Pakistan. The data of this study was retrieved from the Scopus database on January 2nd, 2023. The data analysis presented the periodic growth of papers, citation impact, authorship pattern, collaborative authors, frequently used sources of publications, topographic distribution of papers based on authors' used keywords and characteristics of top-cited papers. The findings of this study would encourage the females of Pakistan through sincere hard work, commitment and dedication, any female can achieve success in her practical and professional career. The study aimed to evaluate the bibliometric research of Library and Information Science (LIS) research contributed by the authors affiliated with the University of Karachi (UoK), Pakistan. The dataset was limited to 22 years from January 2000 to December 2021 and a list of evaluated papers has been proved from various online and print sources. Google Scholar has been employed to access the record of citation(s). Ninety-two papers were identified with at least one author affiliated with the UoK on the subject category of LIS and these papers were cited 707 times. Two-author collaboration was found to be the preferred authorship pattern and the papers written in this pattern got a better citation result. A number of research articles' contributions have been found that female authors are more than male authors. Syed Jalaluddin Haider, Munira Nasreen Ansari and Farhat Hussain emerged as the most prolific authors with 26, 25 and 15 papers, respectively. The papers published in international journals got higher citations and about threefourth of the papers were published in the top 11 sources which in found from these research. The subject dispersion revealed that LIS Education and Library Management were the favorite areas. The characteristics of the ten most cited papers revealed that 60% citations were gained by these papers. The findings of this paper support understanding the research trends in LIS at UoK. The current study conducted to quantify the research contribution of Library and Information Science (LIS) women faculty of India between 1988 and 2018. The study prepared an inclusive list of Indian universities offering LIS education by visiting its official websites individually and collected the names and other details of the LIS women faculties engaged in the teaching profession. The bibliographical data were extracted from the Scopus database during the year 1988-2018. Finally, a total of 146 research articles published by 38 LIS women faculty in India. The core findings of this study were the majority of research works published in journal articles followed by review articles, conference papers, and book chapters respectively. It was also revealed that LIS women faculty of India tend to publish more in an international platform than a national one. Dual authorship found dominating among the LIS women faculty of India. Further study revealed that P. Mahajan was the most productive LIS women faculty of India from Panjab University. The study result suggests that very small portion participations in research contributions as the current study surveyed 129 universities offering LIS education in India. However, many universities do not have a single LIS women faculty. The University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) can take necessary measures to boost up the research productivity of LIS women faculty of India. Purpose- The purpose of this paper is to analyze bibliometrics and visualization of Library Philosophy and Practice (LPP). Design/methodology/approach-Scopus citation database was used to gather the data. Using advanced search in the database, bibliographic data of the articles published in the journal over the past twenty years were extracted. Then, the analysis was performed using bibliometric indicators and some applications, such as Microsoft Excel and VOS viewer. Findings- The data indicated that the process of publications (R²=0.69) and citations received by papers (R²=0.85) was ascending. The paper of W. Fang (2007), "Using Google analytics for improving library website content and design: A case study", is the most highly cited paper of LPP. Bhatti, R. (19 papers), Nigeria (549 papers), University of Ibadan (78 papers) are the most productive and influential authors, universities, and countries in LPP, respectively. Keyword clustering of published papers indicates that the most frequent keywords can fall into five clusters and the first and most important cluster is "bibliometrics study". In addition, the analysis of references of LPP articles showed that "Library Philosophy and Practice" "Scientometrics", and "The Electronic Library" are the top journals, Aina, I., Wilson, T.D.O., and Mahmood, K. are the top authors cited in LPP. Practical implications- The bibliometrics analysis and LPP visualization can be a useful for either library and information science (LIS) scholars or the people interested in bibliometric studies; therefore, they can use it as a pattern to review other journals. Originality/value- This study suggests a general outlook for the performance of an international LIS journal using bibliometric indicators and visualization. The prime purpose of this study is to find out the research productivity of three regions Nigeria, Pakistan, and India. The bibliometric quantification was used to analyze the data. The present research identifies the importance of this online journal. The study discloses frequency of publication growth, author's collaborations, papers length, and most cited papers, most productive authors, and total references used. Design/methodology/approach The survey method was used to find out the full-text research articles on the online database of LPP. The Google scholar was used to retrieve the citations. All the collected data has been analyzed using MS excel and other electronic devices. Findings The results of this study indicate that in the year 2008 to 2013. The contribution of Nigerian authors is more than the other two nations that are 226 while Indian comes 2nd with 193 research papers and Pakistan comes 3rd with 67 research articles from the studied period in the wellknown journal of Library and information science field that is LPP. The present study revealed the majority of the research articles were single authors from Nigeria 114, Pakistan 18, and India 80. The study results show that the majority of the paper length in the range of 6-10 Nigerian 116, Pakistan 34, and India 70 respectively. The study showed the total references were calculated 4140 from Nigeria, 1506 Pakistan, and 3243 from Indian. The most cited paper was retrieved by a Nigerian paper that is 197 citations. The analyzed data shows the most productive authors were Rubina Bhatti from Pakistan with 18 research papers. This study contributes to the existing literature of three-nation contributions to the Library Philosophy and practice throughout the year. This is the first study of three-nation research productivity in the well-known online journal library philosophy and practice. Limitations of the study The present study was limited to the well-known LIS Journal and research articles specifically published at online journal library philosophy and practice. This study is purely limited to the research productivity of Nigerian, Pakistani, and Indian authors to the Library Philosophy and Practice from 2008 to 2013. This paper presents bio-bibliometric analysis of the contributions of Dr. Khalid Mahmood in the field of Library and Information Science through his publications. The analysis includes geographical and year wise distribution of publications; collaboration for publication; publications by type; language and journal preferences for the publication; and coverage of different subject areas. Results of the study indicate that Dr. Khalid Mahmood is a prolific writer in the field of library and information science. He contributed 115 items including 99 articles, six books, eight conference papers and two papers in newsletters till December 31, 2011. Research work by Dr. Khalid Mahmood is well accepted in developed countries like United Kingdom and United States of America. He used English language to disseminate majority of his research work. Purpose: This study aims to examine the published data from the journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS). A quarterly journal of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE). The study's goal is to provide a venue for exchanging ideas and research in the library field. Designed/methodology/approach: The Journal of Education for Library and Information Science (JELIS) published work between 2015 and 2021 is analyzed using a bibliometric technique. The Authorship Pattern is part of the analysis. Contributions from various organizations and the most dynamic authorship and geographic distribution of the published work. Research limitation(s): The research was limited to five years of performance from 2015 to 2021, and no other factors were considered for this paper. Key finding(s): During 2015-21, a total of 445 Authors contributed 230 papers, averaging 5.2 articles per issue. According to the study, single authors authored 131 (57 percent) of the 230 publications, and the most prolific authors were from the United States of America. Practical implication(s): According to this study, the current style and publication procedures have gaps and loopholes. The analysed the research publications contributions of the LIS researchers in DJLIT (DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information technology) during 2011-2017. The total no. 419bibliographical records were retrieved from DJLIT website during the period of study. The result of the study observed that Maximum of 70 papers was brought out in the year 2012. It followed by 66 papers published in 2013. The study found that DJLIT productivity range of publications between 12.17 and 16.76 over the period of study. RGR and Dt was an increasing and a decreasing trend observed over period of study. The paper presents a comparative study of top-ranked Asiatic region journals of Library and Information Science discipline. SCImago Journal and the country rank was used to determine the top-ranked Asiatic journals in the domain of library and information science. Initially, top 10 journals were considered which filtered based on the coverage and SJR Ranked. A total of 6 Journals were considered for further evaluation and comparison, which meets different parameters and criteria. This paper aims to evaluate the scientific publication research productivity in Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science (MJLIS) for period of nineteen years between 1996 and 2014 with total of 315 research publications. For the purpose of this present study, the various attributes of this publication to know about chronology wise total papers, total authors, total citations, average authors per paper, average citation per paper, exponential growth rate, degree of collaboration, collaborative index, relative growth rate, doubling time, co-authorship index, subject wise distribution, institution and country wise distribution and length of papers have also analyzed. The scientometric tools and techniques such as Degree of Collaboration, Collaborative Index, Exponential Growth Rate, and Co-authorship index for measuring the output so as to arrive the appropriate results and findings during the period of study. The results reveal that out of 315 papers, 8.89% are the greatest number of research outputs in the year 2011 and the lowest number 4.13% are in the year 1998. The highest number of average authors per paper is 2.90 in the year 2012 and the average Exponential growth rate is 1.007 and showing the increasing trend in the journal. This study aims to investigate the scholarly contributions and web visibility of LIS educators in Nigeria through citation analysis using Google Scholar. The study analyzed the scholarly contributions of LIS educators and ranks them according to their performance. The study confined its scope to present LIS educators working in LIS schools in Nigeria. Scholarly contributions and web visibility of LIS educators was carried out by counting the number of articles published, number of citations received, h-index, and i10 index. Data was collected using Google Scholar database because of its comprehensiveness in scholarly literature. The collected data were analyzed and results reported with appropriate inferences. The findings show that a total of 379 LIS educators were found to have web visibility and contributed about 6,172 articles/research papers on the Internet. The findings also show that LIS educators have 35,263 citation counts from the 6,172 published papers. The study also examines the h-index raking of the educators; the study found that five of the most productive LIS educators comes from the University of Ilorin, Delta State University, Abraka, University of Nigeria, Nskuka, Enugu, Babcock University, University of Ibadan, Bayero University Kano and ABU Zaria were the most productive LIS Educators base on the Impact of H-index and i10-index. The study concludes by stating that LIS educators were largely cited in scholarly publications. While on the other hand, some articles had not obtained any citations at all. This could be because their choice of study areas was not of current interest. Generally, it was observed that some LIS educators had only a few journal articles online and yet had more citations than LIS educators who had several journal publications visible online. The study analyses papers published in Journal of Advances in Library and Information Science (JALIS) using bibliometric techniques for the period of 2016 to 2020 (5 years). The study examines that, publication growth, degree of collaboration, authorship pattern of the articles and reference distribution. The study has analysed that the highest number of articles was published during the year of 2017 followed by 2016. The degree of collaboration ranges from 0.70 to 0.78 and its mean value is 0.74. The findings indicate that a total of 431 authors produced 243 articles with an average of 0.53 percentage of per author and majority of articles published by joint authors. The aim of the study is to carry out a citation analysis of ten most prolific academic scholars in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) in Nigeria and also determine their authorship pattern. Google scholar database was used in searching for articles published from 2000 to May, 2018. Ten academic researchers in the field of LIS in Nigeria were studied. Results from the analysis show that, Tella, Adeyinka with 72 articles had a total of 1,740 citations and is the most cited author among the ten most prolific authors in the field of Library and Information Science in Nigeria, followed by Adomi, E. Esharenana with 904 citations from 47 articles, and Nwagwu, E. Williams with 684 citations from 70 articles. The authorship patterns of the publications revealed that majority of the articles were co-authored papers. Further analysis showed that the degree of collaboration among the researchers was high. The correlation of the most cited articles with most cited journals revealed the Library Philosophy & Practice as the most cited journal. The study calls for authorities in institutions and editors of local journals to find solutions to the inclusion of local journals in international indexing and abstraction databases to present a realistic picture of scholarly publications. It is expected that the usage of LIS in research papers will continue to expand in the coming years. This expansion may be seen throughout a wide range of scientific disciplines as well. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of 1,127 papers on the use of LIS research, which were published in 206 scientific publications and authored by 1,685 authors (245 single-authored documents and 1,440 multi-authored documents). The purpose of this investigation is to determine which issue in LIS is currently trending. To analyze the data, we extracted it from the Scopus database and ran it using R software's Bibliometrix program, which was then imported into VOSviewer. According to criteria derived from citation analysis, we have identified the most important papers, journals, authors, countries, and affiliations in the world. However, even though keywords and phrases are likely to be the most relevant subjects and findings of the research, it is possible that some of the main patterns and concerns that have been covered in the entire text are not well represented in our investigation. Gender disparity is present in many research fields including in Library and Information Science (LIS). This paper studied gender disparity among Indian LIS professionals and measure the intellectual output 20 years. The study reviewed 1,195 publications in the LIS field from 1999 to 2018, determining the gender of the first author. An analysis of the publication list determined the yearly contributions of male and female authors, together with the average distributions, yearly citation rates and other metrics, by gender. Across the whole study period, publications first-authored by men outnumbered those by women. Similarly, overall contributions by men were higher than by women. BM Gupta and M Tripathi were the most prolific male and female authors, respectively. "India" was the most common keyword used by both first author genders. "Bibliometrics", "Digital Library", "Scientometrics", "Academic Libraries", "E-resources" and "web 2.0" were the core research areas of both men and women. When journals were divided into national and international scope, articles by men outnumbered those by women on both levels. However, 65% of the articles published by women were in international journals, compared to 58% of the articles published by men (59% overall), suggesting that the quality of work produced by women was comparable to or higher than the quality of work published by men. Consequently, gender parity in Indian LIS publications may be some way off. The SRELS Journal of Information Management has been playing vital role in the library and information science field since last fifty years. This paper presents the results of a bibliometric study of articles with a gender viewpoint from 2007-2017. The aim of the study is to examine the journal during the period 2007-2017 using bibliometric indicators with a gender perspective. The pattern of research output in 606 publications is analyzed in which 435(71.78%) articles are contributed by male authors and 171(28.21%) by female authors. The degree of collaboration in the publications of the journal is 0.66. Most of the articles i.e. (52.31%) are two authored articles. The male and female distribution by professional category indicates large number of contributing authors belonged to non-teaching category i.e. 389 out of which 292 (67.12%) are male authors and 97 (56.72%) female authors. Maximum number i.e. 222 (36.6%) contributions are under male-male authorship pattern followed by 153(25.2%) male solo papers. Citation study showed that 120 cited articles received 215 citations. Male authors contributed maximum number of articles in the subject category "bibliometrics analysis" whereas females authored large number of articles on the topic "use studies". The article presents information about a study done at Iran's Islamic Azad University which looks at research papers done in the Library and Information Science department from 1997 to 2007 regarding critical thinking, gender, and education. It focuses on critical thinking skills which have a positive impact on improving the writing process, most notably in student compositions. Topics include a lack of correlation between learning methods and critical thinking, the presence of a correlation between critical thinking and age and gender, and a correlation between curriculum type and critical thinking.

Objective: The study was aimed to scrutinize the research output of the Faculty members of Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak having PhD degree, from 2012 to 2019. Material and Method: Bibliometric approach was adopted to conduct this study. The study was delimited to the regular faculty members of Khushal Khan Khattak University Karak having PhD degree in their relevant field. Results: The results show that Dr. Saeed Ullah Jan is the most prolific authors with 41 publications followed by Dr. Anwar Khan with 40 papers. Department wise productivity shows that Department of Management Sciences is ranked high in research productivity with 63 publications, followed by Department of Library and Information Science (62). It was noted that the year wise research output during the study period was fluctuating. Objective: The assessment of scholarly communication on the particular area of knowledge has been used frequently by the subject specialists. The current study aimed to observe the coverage of articles on the subject area of "Library Marketing" in one of the library and information science journals, Library Philosophy and Practice (ejournal). Methods: Data search was performed on the Elsevier's Scopus database on October 10, 2021. The name of the journal was written in the main search box after selecting the "source title" option and in the second search box, "library marketing" was written to refine the search result. The bibliographic records of the retrieved dataset were downloaded for the quantitative analysis. Microsoft Excel and VOS viewer software were used. Results: A total of 78 records on "library marketing" were found in the Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal), published between 2002 to October 10, 2021. The majority of the articles (62%) were published during the last three years (2019-2021). All the selected articles gained 139 citations, and 7 articles achieved the h-index scale. One hundred and sixty-five authors affiliated with 99 organizations of the 15 countries contributed to these articles. One-third of the articles were contributed by Nigerian researchers. "Marketing" and "Library Services" were found to be the prominent keywords. Conclusion: The study identified the literature on library marketing published in Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal) and create awareness among the potential researchers as well as library and information science professionals in understanding the subject coverage and its scope. Purpose: Library and Information Science subject is exceedingly pragmatic in nature in India more than a century old, which is one of the most knowledge producing and knowledge utilizing area and is associated with many of the tool subjects like computer science, statistics, management science etc. Since the subject has a very practical base therefore, both the theory and practice should go side by side. As a knowledge fabricating domain, a lot of researchers, professionals, academicians etc. are profoundly involved in the research. This research work briefly traces the Library and Information Science research stemming from India in the 21st century based on the data as depicted in Indian Citation Index (ICI) during the year 2006 - 2015 which will help the LIS professionals to get aware of the latest and emerging issues in this field. Methodology: A whole of 2,483 bibliographic data set have been retrieved in CSV format from one of the India's national level citation database i.e. Indian Citation Index (ICI) from 2006 to 2015. Methodologically bibliometric tools and techniques have been taken up and descriptive statistics methods were employed. The study also uses fractional counting method. Findings: 2,460 sole Indian LIS researchers have contributed 2,483 research papers in seven diverse categories and amongst them, 90.61% (2250) are research articles. 2015 have been the most productive year by publishing 16.63 % literatures. SRELS, DJLIT, PEARL, IJILS, IASLIC Bulletin, Library Herald and ALIS are the most preferred journals to the LIS professionals for publishing their research works. Most of the works of the researchers has been categorised into 57 micro areas. Out of them, Bibliometrics (14%) is the most significant area for the research fraternity. Other emerging areas of research are the following-User studies, Information technology, digital libraries, library consortia, library automation etc. Many of the literatures have been published in closed access in comparison to open access platform. The parent study was conducted with an aim to determine the various bibliometric characteristics of the documents published in Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIST) for 2014 to 2019. A retrospective study method was used and the data of JASIST were retrieved from Web of Science - Clarivate Analytics database. A total of 1,196 documents were found, contributed by the authors of 62 countries with average of 199 documents per annum. These documents received 11,941 citations with an average of 9.98 citations per documents. More than half of research were contributed by two countries, and amongst the top-10 most contributing organizations, six belonged to one country. Background and objective: One of the approaches to represent scientific publications in a field of science is to determine research trends and hot topics. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the research trends on the Library and Information Science (LIS) in the Scopus database during 2011-2020 and specify the hot topics in this field from July 2020 to July 2021. Materials and Methods: This study used scientometric techniques. The research population consisted of all papers in the field of LIS from July 2011 to July 2021. The data were collected from the Scopus database. The results were limited to 2011-2020 for determining the research trends in the field of LIS and from July 2020 to July 2021 for specifying the hot topics in this field. Data were analyzed using the word co-occurrence and social network analysis techniques, and UCINet, NetDraw, and VOSviewer software were used to draw scientific maps and identify core topics and individuals. Results: The keywords "Systematic Review" (frequency=531) and "Bibliometrics" (frequency=51) had the highest and lowest frequencies, respectively. "Libraries and information technology" (n=151), "research methods" (n=70), and "databases" (n=23) were the three important topic clusters in the study area, in which the United States, China, and the United Kingdom were the three most active countries, respectively. The Department of Library and Information Science, University of London, with 71 documents, and the Department of Information Management, University of Punjab, with 55 documents, had the most significant contribution of article publication among the influential institutions. Moreover, Zhang, Yut, and Wang, Liying each with 27 documents, and Li, Xiano with 24 documents were three active and influential authors in this field. In addition, "systematic review", "diffusion pattern", and "bibliometric" were also three hot topics. Conclusion: This study revealed that the orientation of the LIS research is going from traditional topics toward novel and emerging technologies. Scientometrics is an effective method to quantitatively analyse the productivity and progress of all forms of written communication. This study aims to examine the scientific research productivity of Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal) for a selected period of 22 years between 1998 and 2019. Required data pertaining to this study under various parameters were collected from Scopus database. Further, analysis was carried out under various dimensions to measure the year wise distribution of articles published during the selected period, its relative growth rate, doubling time, collaboration coefficient, country and affiliation wise distribution of articles and its citation patterns etc. The findings of the study revealed that the highest numbers of articles were published in the year 2019 and the lowest appeared in the year 1998. In the year 2013, there was no single article of the journal indexed in Scopus database. The country wise distribution of articles showed that the highest contribution of 33.52% made from Nigeria, while the institution wise distribution indicated that the University of Ibadan was rated as the highest research producer. Analysis also revealed that the average citation per paper during the selected period was 1.51. Authors found from the analysis that the publication title 'Using Google Analytics for improving library website content and design: A case study' authored by Fang W. received a citation of 67 and ranked as the highly cited paper during the period of study. The article focuses on the state of information science and scientometrics (ISS) analysis studies in India from 2005-2009. The author's study focused on analyzing bibliographic details of documents on ISS, which were obtained from the 2005-2009 issues of the journal "Indian Science Abstracts." He found that journals were the most important of publication in information science and scientometrics and that there was a strong trend of multi-authored papers during the given period. He also revealed that Karnataka was the source of majority of the papers on ISS with Tamil Nadu and Delhi trailing behind.

This paper examined the concept of strategic planning in librarianship. This article becomes pertinent because few studies have examined academic libraries' planning documents to see how they are prioritizing among the competing issues and challenges facing them in the last two decades. This paper addresses the gap in the literature, theory and practice. The paper argued that effective strategic planning involves understanding the library domain, assessing relevant resource base and creating a shared view of the future, by asking fundamental questions such as what do libraries need to do to support excellence in service delivery and remain competitive in any academic environment?. This paper argued that strategic planning involves gathering and processing information, identifying and evaluating options, deciding and refining objectives, formulating and implementing plans, monitoring and reviewing progress. This paper aims to identify the types of research papers/articles, current trends in the choice of subjects, being included in the Library and information science (LIS) journal literature published from UK and USA. The study also aims to find out the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on LIS subject fields. A content analysis of 165 research papers and journals articles published in the year 2008 in six LIS journals was conducted. Findings indicate that 93 (56.36%) of the articles out of the total 165 were research based. The variation is found with regard to coverage of core subject areas published from UK and USA. This study will try to fill gaps in library and information science research as it can helps in identifying the fields on which major work has been done as well as the subjects which are not worked upon. This paper studies the role of world countries in Library and Information Science research during 1963 to 2012 using scientometric and social network analysis (SNA) approaches. A total of 58757 papers which published by 83 Information Science and Library Science journals in JCR 2013 and indexed in the Web of Science were selected as the sample of the study. In this paper, the overall structure and evolution of the collaboration network of countries were investigated using macro-level SNA metrics. Additionally, scientometric and micro-level SNA metrics were adopted to analyze the performance of countries in the network. UCINET and VOSVIEWER software were utilized for data analysis and visualization. Findings of the study show that the co-authorship network of countries in LIS research contains 151 vertices which connected together through 3121 links (co-authorships). The collaboration network of countries seems to exhibit "scale-free" and "small world" network properties and the theory of "six degrees of separation" is valid in this network. Moreover, the results of clustering analysis show that this network comprises 39 clusters. Amongst them, the eleventh and ninth clusters which contain US and UK, have the highest density. There are more than 12 library schools in Pakistan producing around 1.000 graduates every year. These graduates hold 16-year BS or MLIS professional qualifications. There is no calculated estimate available concerning the number of related jobs and the vacant ones in the country. Therefore, it is not possible to determine the number of LIS graduates required in the country within a particular span. The academic libraries especially in the public sector accommodate most of such graduates. The current job market has become oversaturated as we carefully observe around five candidates against one entry-level position in the public sector on average. Entry-level positions are those where the basic professional qualification (BS or MLIS) is required without any experience, for example, recruitment through public service commissions. In such a scenario where joblessness is increasing owing to fewer job openings and more candidates, one cannot wait for years for a job to earn a livelihood. Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has designed a new BS curriculum in almost every discipline including LIS, which aims to promote entrepreneurship as well. The researchers of this paper interpret entrepreneurship as an activity for creative individuals to independently secure one’s livelihood while creating jobs for others. The paper sheds light on the strategy opted to sharpen the skills of the Library and Information Science Students in Colon Classification Scheme (6th Ed.). A few topics, namely Notational System, Main Class, Facet Formula and Postulates & Principles have been sliced here. Understanding the need and purpose of the said topics are a must for the freshers. The freshers should make their foundation as strong in the Normative Principles. Dr.S.R.Ranganathan (1967) insisted that the Colon Classification (6th Edition) techniques need to be taught to the students in the classroom with the help of Postulates and Principles. Students have had their sessions where enough exercises were worked out by them to gain more skills in the said topics. The strategy opted by the course teacher to sharpen the students' skills and the outcomes have been measured using the six levels of Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. The strategy enabled the course teacher to capture a clearer picture of the students' capabilities and their progress ranges in the select topics. The students' classroom activity encompasses multiple exercises along with the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy levels, and some scoring indicators. Students were instructed to process the exercises at regular intervals, and in final, based on their skill levels they were directed to revise the topic or move to another topic. The classroom exercises encompass both the theory (Course Code: 19LISC103) and the practice (Course Code: 19LISC202) performed by the students are screened here for better understanding. The Main Class related exercises were performed by the students during the end semester (Course Code: 19LISC202). For illustrative purpose, two students' outcomes are vouched here where a fast learner [Student-1 and Annexures-i & iii] performance covers all the topics (one exercise from each topic), and one topic, namely Rounds and Levels performed by a slow learner [Student-2 & Annexure-ii] have been extracted. Further, the structured exercise formats let the course teacher to evaluate the strength and weakness of each student's skills in the same fields. The topics encompass Notation types, Main Class (BCN to BC, BC to BCN and BC & BCN), the Postulates namely, Postulate of Basic Facet, Postulate of Isolate Facet, Postulate of Rounds and Levels, Postulates for Facet Sequence, and the Principle related to Wall-Picture concept. Further, the Facet Formula related practice also has been given to raise the students' skills in making possible arrangements among the identified facets. Who Knows? Today they are learners and may become an expert tomorrow when they acquire adequate knowledge and expertise in Colon Classification. The students reflected over-whelming responses while they practice the exercises in the classroom using the structured formats. Adequate charts have been generated to detect the students' skills and progress in each level as well as the overall level in a crystal-clear way. Resource sharing is an important and widely well-known concept in the field of library science. The concept is recognized by the term library networking which deals with the interconnection of libraries so that the participating libraries can share information and resources effectively. It aids to overcome the limitations like enormous cost of purchase, bibliography handling, storage of material etc. as a result of the exponential growth in the information produced. Resource sharing is a solution to optimize library resources. Thus, resource sharing in libraries has become essential in current scenario, and it commands world-wide acceptance. Based on the literature review it can be said that academic libraries, especially in developing countries should continue subscribing to information resources through the Consortium Building (CB) and explore their usage by ensuring total addressing of patrons information needs. The paper discussed the employment of competitive intelligence for improving patronage of the 21st century academic libraries. It explored literature on; the concept of competitive intelligence, characteristics of the twenty first century academic library, attributes of competitive advantage in academic libraries and competitive intelligence activities in Nigerian academic libraries. It was discovered that funds and the necessary skill-sets were required for an academic library to develop to the point of having a competitive edge over other libraries. Also literature revealed that only few libraries especially private university libraries were already treading the path of gaining the competitive advantage for attracting increased patronage. The paper is scientometric study of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Science (DJLIT) and Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS). The analysis is based on 862 records retrieved from Scopus. Average growth rate for both the journals is registered as 1.64% while RGR differed from 0.32 to 3.76. B. M. Gupta with 28 contributions is identified as the most prolific authors. The fractionalized authorship revealed Sen, B. K. to be the most significant. Nevertheless, dominance ranking again produced a little bit different results. Gupta, B. M and Garg, K. C. both have highest h-index of 6. Scientometrics and bibliometrics have been identified as the most popular themes.
