How to describe an object taught in classroom ? After a short presentation of some aspects concerning data collection (videotaping of the teaching of the same object in several classes), the paper focuses on the description of the object taught. Two phases are distinguished : 1) reduction of the transcriptions by a synopsis of the teaching sequence ; 2) multifocal description of the object : a) global approach of each sequence through its macrostructure and through the chain of school activities ; b) approach of the object through some fundamental teaching gestures observed in all sequences like evaluation or institutionalization ; c) observation of the flow between sub-disciplines of mother tongue education (grammar – writing ; study of texts – argumentation)., Schneuwly Bernard, Cordeiro Glaís Sales, Dolz Joaquim.
