The author discusses the action taken by the Danish government that allows women with breast cancer who worked the night shift for a period of 20 years to receive workers' compensation. It is argued that clinical evidence supporting a correlation between shift work and breast cancer is not substantial enough to merit such a policy. The economic ramification of the Danish decision for occupational health are significant, as one in 5 employed in Europe and North America work night sifts.
