High Curie-temperature (Tc) polycrystalline 0.2Bi (Ni1/2Ti1/2)O3-0.8PbTiO3 (0.2BNT-0.8PT) thin films were fabricated on Pt (111)/Ti/SiO2/Si substrates via an aqueous chemical solution deposition (CSD) technique. The thin films exhibited good crystalline quality and dense, uniform microstructures with an average grain size of 55 nm. The dielectric, piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties of the films was investigated. The permittivity peak appeared at 485 °C, which was 100 °C higher than that of Pb (Zr,Ti)O3 thin films. The local effective piezoelectric coefficient d33 was 45 pm/V at 3V. Moreover, a large remnant polarization with 2Pr up to 92 uC/cm2 and a small leakage current of 2.2×10-5 A/cm2 under an electric field of 400 kV/cm were obtained. The magnitude of the measured polarization and the high Curie temperature make the 0.2BNT-0.8PT films promising candidates for application in high-temperature ferroelectric and piezoelectric devices.

Zinc titanate ceramics having excellent dielectric properties and low sintering temperature are promising materials for RF/microwave multilayer devices. In this paper, the ZnO-V2O5 addition was added to promote the sintering process in order to obtain low-temperature sintered ceramics with high quality factors. The sintering addition could also restrain ZnTiO3 phase from decomposition. Using this method, low-temperature sintered zinc titanate ceramics with excellent microwave dielectric properties of εr~ 25.3, Q×f~15200GHz, and τf ~ -16 ppm/oC were obtained at sintering temperature of 800oC. The low-fired mechanism, microstructure, phase formation and microwave dielectric properties of ceramics were investigated by XRD, SEM, EDS and network analysis techniques, respectively.

The crystal structure, phase relation, microstructure and dielectric properties of microwave dielectric ceramics comprised of Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 were investigated systematically using XRD, SEM and a network analyzer in this study. XRD results show that the Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics have the orthorhombic for all x values. However, two kinds of solid solutions phase regions based on columbite structure and ZnTa2O6 structure were observed. SEM results show that the growth of grains is restrained with increase of Ta content in Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics. The dielectric properties exhibited a significant dependence on the crystal structure and compositions of the ceramics. The dielectric constant (εr) of Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics increased with increasing Ta content. However, the quality factors (Q×f) of this system show a different trend, and decrease with increasing Ta content. At x=0.65, a zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency ( τ f) can be realized in Zn(Nb1-xTax)2O6 ceramics system.

BiFeO3-PbTiO3 powders were synthesized by a novel sol-gel auto-combustion method. The gels, transformed from the aqueous solutions of metal nitrate and citric acid, undergo a selfpropagatingcombustion process when being ignited and yield voluminous ashes. These ashes are single phase perovskite BiFeO3-PbTiO3 powders. The redox behaviors of the dried gels were studied by DTA-TG technique and IR spectra. The synthesized powders were characterized in terms of XRD, SEM and BET techniques.

This paper presents the shrinkage behavior, phase transformation and interfacial character of the hexagonal ferrite/silver electrode composite. The shrinkage analysis shows apparent sintering mismatch between hexagonal ferrite ceramic and silver electrode material and improvement of the co-fired characteristics was obtained by adding appropriate amount of sintering additive. Scanning electron microscopy observations indicate that silver grains distribute uniformly in the composite. Drawn from the back-scattered (BS) electron image, no silver dispersed into the ferrite grains and there’re no obvious chemical reactions between Co2Z hexagonal ferrite and silver, which can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction spectrum. Silver induction exerts remarkable effect on the electronic properties of the composite and could increase the dielectric constant and dielectric loss to a certain extent.

The effects of additions on the microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of 0.42ZnNb2O6-0.58TiO2 (ZNT) ceramics were investigated systematically. The sintering temperature of ZNT ceramics doped with different amounts of CuO, Bi2O3 and V2O5 can be effectively reduced. The phase of doped samples was studied compared to the undoped ZNT ceramics. For densified ZNT ceramics with the increasing amount of dopant CuO-Bi2O3-V2O5, the dielectric constants (εr) of densified samples ranges from 38 to 42, the Q×f values decrease evidently and ranges from 13300 GHz to 5000 GHz and the τf values are shifted toward negative.

The Ba5(Nb1-xTax)4O15 (x=0~0.5) solid-solution ceramics with hexagonal perovskite structure were prepared by solid-state oxide route. The phases and structure of the sintered ceramics were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influences of composition and sintering temperature on the bulk density, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties were also investigated. As the value of x increased from 0 to 0.5, the Q×f value increases from 36,049 to 49,493 GHz (at ~9GHz), whereas the dielectric constant (εr) decreases from 39.21 to 33.03 and the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf ) decreases from 78.6 to 19.4 ppm/oC. The results indicate that the microwave dielectric properties of Ba5(Nb1-xTax)4O15 ceramics can be easily modified in a large range by changing the relative content of Ta to Nb.

ZnNb2O6 ceramics with a columbite crystal structure, is a promising candidate for application in microwave devices. In this study, ZnNb2O6 nano-powders were prepared using Nb2O5 and Zn(NO3)2 as raw materials by Pechini method. The microstructure and crystal structure of ZnNb2O6 powders were investigated systematically using X-ray powder diffraction and SEM techniques. The effect of amount of citric and ethylene on the formation of sol-gel and the particle size of ZnNb2O6 powders were also investigated using orthogonal design. Finally, the optimum process parameters for synthesis ZnNb2O6 nano-powders were obtained in this study.

The dielectric ceramics of CaTiSiO5-CaTiO3 with ZnO and B2O3 as additives were sintered at 950ºC. Of the ceramics with a small quantity of 2ZnO-B2O3 as the additive, the density is nearly the same as the one reported, εr= 83 ~ 99, tgδ < 7×10-4, αε= (-100~+100) ppm/ºC. The crystal phases and microstructures are analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. It is found that the sintered ceramics is of biphase, comprising monoclinic CaTiSiO5 and orthorhombic CaTiO3, and the grains are mostly the small circular ones, having diameters of 1~29m. By adjusting the composing of the ceramic, a high frequency dielectric ceramic CaTiSiO5-CaTiO3, of which αε= (-50~+50) ppm/ºC was attained.

In this work hexagonal perovskite powders of CaLa4Ti4O15 were prepared by citrate sol-gel method. The calcined temperature was 1150oC, which is lower than that of the conventional solid method. Dense CLT ceramics were produced at sintering temperature of 1600oC. The crystal structures and microstructures were investigated by XRD, TEM and SEM, respectively. Compared with samples produced by solid method, the sol-gel derived CLT ceramics exhibited a near zero temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (τf ) of -6 ppm/oC, and other microwave properties , εr ~ 43, Q×f ~ 42000 GHz were also obtained. Moreover, the sintering temperature of the CLT ceramics could be reduced to 1400 oC by addition of B2O3-ZnO.

(1-X)BaTiO3-XCaCu2.94Mn0.06Ti4O12 (BTO-CCMTO) composite ceramics with X =0.1 and 0.2 were prepared through solid state reaction route. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses showed that a co-existence structure of BTO and CCMTO phase can be realized when the sample was sintered at 950°C. Furthermore, influences of CCMTO on the dielectric behaviors of the BTO-CCMTO composite ceramics were investigated. The results showed that the dielectric permittivity of the BTO-CCMTO composite ceramics increases with increasing amounts of CCMTO and the Curie peak of the pure BTO ceramics is greatly suppressed due to the addition of CCMTO. The dielectric loss of the BTO-CCMTO composite ceramics can be kept in the same magnitude order as that of the BTO ceramics.

Microwave dielectric ceramics of CaO-2ZnO-xTiO2 (x=6~9) were prepared by citrate sol-gel method. The phase formation and structural properties of the ceramics were investigated as a function of titania content (x). Monophase of Ca2Zn4Ti16O38 polytitanates were formed at x = 8. With the increase of x, residual rutile phase were observed, whereas with the decrease of x, the CaTiO3 and Zn2TiO4 phases were detected. The microwave dielectric properties of the sintered ceramics were investigated using resonance method. The variation of dielectric properties of the ceramics as a function of titania content (x) was investigated. For the monophase of Ca2Zn4Ti16O38 polytitanate at x = 8, the dielectric properties showed minimum dielectric constant of 48.1, minimum temperature coefficient of resonant frequencies +44.1 ppm/oC, and maximum Q×f value of 31000 (at 6.921GHz). Deviating from x = 8, the dielectric constant and temperature coefficient of resonant frequencies slightly increased, and the Q×f value decreased. The variation was concerned with the presence of secondary phase.

The nano-sized Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 powder was prepared by citrate sol-gel method. The crystal structure and the particle size of the powder were characterized by XRD. The morphology of calcined powder and the sintered ceramics was observed by TEM and SEM, respectively. The particle size of the powders calcined at 600oC is about 10 nm. The dense ceramics can be obtained at sintering temperature of 1220 oC, which is much lower than that of the powder prepared by the conventional solid method. The effects of Al2O3 additive on the sintering behavior, microstructure and dielectric properties of Ba(Zr0.2Ti0.8)O3 ceramics were also investigated.

A series of novel composites with the composition of xNiCuZn-(1-x)PZT (NiCuZn: Ni0.2Cu0.2Zn0.6Fe2O4; PZT: PbZr0.52Ti0.48O3.) were prepared by solid-state reaction methods. The presence of ferromagnetic NiCuZn ferrite phase and ferroelectric PZT phase was confirmed by XRD analysis. It was revealed that composite materials exhibit typical ferromagnetic hysteresis behaviors. With the increase of phase fraction of NiCuZn ferrite, the permeability of composites increases and the natural resonance peak appears. Meanwhile, the maximum of quality factors shifts to the lower frequency.
