The aim of this study was to determine the oxidative/nitrosative stress, leptin and progesterone concentrations in pregnant and non-pregnant Abaza goats after synchronization with controlled internal drug release (CIDR) during the breeding season. For this purpose, 40 clinically healthy Abaza goats, aged 2-4 years, were intravaginally exposed to CIDR on day 0, and injected with equine chorionic gonadotropin and prostaglandin F2α on day 9 of the experiment. CIDR was removed on day 11. At the end of the experiment, they were monitored for estrus and exposed to fertile males for mating. Blood samples were collected 8 days before synchronization, then on days 0, 11 of CIDR insertion and on mating day. A pregnancy diagnosis was conducted using transrectal ultrasonography 30 day after mating. The blood serum from 40 goats (30 pregnant + 10 non-pregnant) was used for biochemical analyses. Malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), total oxidant capacity (TOC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) activities were significantly higher on mating day in pregnant goats compared to non-pregnant goats (P<0.05). The eNOS activity and TOC concentrations were significantly higher on day 11 in pregnant goats compared to non-pregnant goats (P<0.001). Serum P4 concentration increased in pregnant group on day 11 and decreased all groups on mating day than day -8, day 0 and day 11 (P<0.001). The aim of this study was to determine changes in total sialic acid (TSA), malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (NO), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) levels on sera and CSF and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels on blood in cattle with Malignant Catarrhal Fever (MCF). For this purpose 17 cattle which clinically diagnosed "head-eye form" of MCF and clinically healthy 10 cattle were evaluated. Blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were taken from the animals on the MCF diagnosed group MDA, GSH, NO, eNOS, iNOS, and TSA values were 25.65±0.42 µmol/L, 37.21±1.12 mg/dL, 30.61±0.41 µmol/L, 4.05±0.09 U/L and 10.98±0.35 U/L, 88.33±1.03 mg/dL, on the control group 13.77±0.55 µmol/L, 60.06±1.73 mg/dL, 11.27±0.4 µmol/L, 3.12±0.18 U/L, 5.55±0.3 U/L and 63.60±1.86 mg/dL respectively, and all parameter changes between the groups were determined to be statistically significant (P<0.001). On the CSF, no statistically significant difference between taken from MCF diagnosed group and healthy group. NO value and iNOS activity obtained from control groups CSF were relatively higher than the same group's serum whereas eNOS activities were found to be low. The study group consisting of MCF diagnosed cattle's serum were found to have NO value, eNOS and iNOS activities relatively higher than the same group's CSF values. As a result, it was concluded that there is a need for more comprehensive studies for better understanding the reason of failure to obtain the significant changes of animals diagnosed MCF that determine in blood but not in CSF. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of sodium borate (Na2B4O7-5H2O) addition to dairy cow rations starting from prepartum period on serum Cortisol, glucose, β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA), triglyceride (TG), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. Clinically healthy eighty pregnant cows were randomly divided into two groups. Sodium borate (30 g/day) was added to the rations of the borax group (n=40) until day 21 postpartum. Blood samples were taken from all cows (n=40) on days 21,14 and 7 before parturition, at parturition and on days 7,14 and 21 after parturition. Serum Cortisol levels in the borax group were lower (P<0.05) than those in the control group, there was a decrease (P<0.05) in serum BHB, NEFA and TG levels before, at parturition and after parturition, serum BUN concentrations increased (P<0.05) in prepartum and postpartum samples in the borax group, except for prepartum days 21 and 14, AST concentrations were higher (P>0.05), on all other sampling days, and ALT levels were not affected (P>0.05). It was concluded that adding sodium borate to rations especially in the transition period in highly productive dairy breeds might be an alternative to protect against negative energy imbalances. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of short term administration of PRID on the levels of serum progesterone, nitric oxide (NO), malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and total oxidant capacity (TOC) in heifers. This purpose, 200 heifers were synchronized with the Cosynch-72 protocol in which progesterone was administered for 5 days. Blood was taken from the heifers 10 days prior to starting synchronization (day -10), the day the PRID was attached (day 0), the day the PRID was removed (day 5) and on the day of insemination (day 8). Blood taken on day-10 and day 0 were accepted as control values for the study. Serum progesterone, NO, MDA, TAC and TOC were measured on days 5 and 8. The difference in serum NO and MDA levels was found to be statistically significant on day 5 of the study (P< 0.001). It was determined that the procedure caused a drop in the TAC level, while the TOC level was not affected. In conclusion, it was determined that short-term administration of PRID in heifers caused an increase in serum NO and MDA levels, a decrease in TAC level and had no effect on the TOC level.
