The spatio-temporal distribution of jellyfish in Masan Bay was investigated in this study using a numerical model. First, a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model (POM) was constructed,taking into account residual flows, tides, temperature, salinity, and wind effects. A particle tracking model based on residual flow was then used to investigate the jellyfish present in Masan Port, referred to as the Heavy Industry and Gapo New Port in Masan. Jellyfish distribution was concentrated with maximum (2,533 individual) in the North Sea near Machang Bridge. Itcan be concluded that this concentration was due to multi-directional residual flows and topography effects. Residual flow currents are a dominant factor in understanding the aggregation of jellyfish, and this study used a numerical simulation of tide-induced residual currents, wind-driven currents and density currents in distinct cases to thoroughly address the topic. As a result, wind-driven currents (effect of the wind) was found to be superior to other components as an influence on the distribution of jellyfish near Machang Bridge and Modo in Masan Bay.

In order to study the characteristics of physical environment in water column around the artificial upwelling structure, CTD and currents measurements were carried out along line observations. Before installation of artificial upwelling structure was installed, the stratification of water column existed 30m in water depth. After installation of artificial upwelling structure, however, stratification formation depth and strength changed depending on currents directions. It seems that the change of stratification has a close relation with upwelling of lower temperature water. After installing the artificial upwelling structure, the distributions of vertical flows were analyzed. Local upwelling and downwelling flows showed a distinct time and spacial changes. Local upwelling flows caused by artificial upwelling structure appeared 100 times larger than coastal upwelling in the South-East Sea of Korea. Upwelling flows generated by the artificial structure raised the high concentration of nutrients to upper layer from lower layer breaking stratification in the summer. Thus, upwelling structure plays an important role for vertical water circulation improving the food environments by increasing primary production.

Interdisciplinary Program of Ocean Industrial Engineering, Pukyong National University, Busan 608-737 Korea Department of Ecological Engineering / Research Center for Ocean Industrial and Development(RCOID), Pukyong National University, Busan 608-737, Korea요 약 : 본 연구는 한국 남해 연안에서 하계에 상습적으로 발생하는 유해적조생물의 이동과 확산에 관하여 파악하는 것이다. 먼저 3차원 해수유동모델(POM)을 이용하여 조석의 효과, 수온·염분, 바람 효과 및 쓰시마난류를 고려한 잔차류를 계산하였다. 잔차류에 의해 부유이동하는 적조생물의 시간에 따른 공간적인 분포를 파악하기 위하여 국립수산과학원의 적조속보 자료를 이용하여 한국 남해안에서 유해적조의 최다 발생한 3개 지역 가막만(Case 1), 미조연안(Case 2), 미륵도연안(Case 3)을 선정하여 적조발생을 유형별로 수치실험을 하였다. 가막만 남부해역에서 적조가 발생한 경우(Case 1)는 발생지점으로부터 서쪽에 위치한 나로도주변해역과 여자만으로 주로 이동 확산하였다. 미조연안에서 적조가 발생한 경우(Case 2)는 발생해역의 북동측에 위치한 해역으로 입자들이 주로 이동하는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 미륵도 주변해역에서 입자가 발생한 경우(Case 3)는 욕지도주변해역과 자란만-사량도 주변해역에서 가장 많이 분포하였다. 특히 Case 3의 경우 확산된 입자가 연구 해역의 남동쪽에서 북동향하여 진행하는 쓰시마 난류의 영향을 받아 거제도 남부와 동부해역에 분포하는 현상을 볼 수 있다.핵심용어 : 유해적조, 해수유동모델, 입자추적자모델, 쓰시마난류, 잔차류 Abstract : To understand the drift-diffusion of HAB(Harmful Algal Bloom) in this paper, we used three-dimensional hydrodynamic model POM(Pringceton Ocean Model) and Lagrangian particle track module. First, the results of residual flow that considered tide, wind, temperature, salinity, and TWC(Tsushima Warm Current) effect was tend to northeast in the coastal area and the flow in the offshore region showed results similar to TWC. To understand of HAB’s movement, released each area that southern Kamak bay(Case 1), Mijo coast(Case 2), and southern Mireukdo coast(Case 3) assumption that red tide occurred. The areas where the HAB occurs frequently. As a result of HAB occurred in southern Kamak Bay(Case 1), mainly drifts to Narodo coast and Yeoja bay that located on the west side. Case 2 was mainly drifts to Yokjido coast and Saryangdo coast Especially, HAB occurred in Mireukdo coast(Case 3) relatively many particles drift to eastward as the influence of the TWC.
