In this study, electromagnetic solenoid has been designed for valve mechanism on a compressed air engine. Mechanical valve mechanism has been removed and a special designed electromagnetic solenoid has been placed. The solenoid that provides the transfer of compressed air to engine has been controlled by driving circuit related to the speed of the engine. Electrical and magnetic parameters of the solenoid designed with analytical and finite element method using Ansoft Maxwell 2D software, have been calculated and the simulation results have been compared with prototype. In addition, to overmatch of desirable force, it has been provided that solenoid reacted to defined time. Theoretical approach has been considered and the simulations have been repeated to provide optimum design of the solenoid. According to the simulation results, the wire diameter and the armature mass have a measurable effect on response time. In this study, an experimental application has been achieved for three phase induction motors including observation and control the motor speed by adjusting the frequency. A frequency converter and a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) have been used in the system as main hardware units. Experimental operations such as starting and stopping the motor, speed control, changing the direction of rotation, observing the actual operation values can easily be achieved over a user friendly and multi functional interface. The data obtained from the experimental set has been transferred to the user interface via the OPC (OLE for Process Control) server software. Thanks to the study implemented, it has been tested that speed control of the motor has been achieved speedily and safely. Furthermore, an educational set has been developed to perform frequency/speed control experiment for students who have lack of equipment to perform the tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
