The chitosan was cross linked with ethylene diamine and trepthaldehyde (CM-Chitosan) through Schiff base reaction. The chitosan was successfully cross linked as confirmed by FT-IR spectrometer. The morphological analysis illustrated that CM-Chitosan surface is porous/rough than neat chitosan. The CM-Chitosan and Chitosan were employed as an adsorbent for the elimination of Cu+2 and Pb+2 ions from aqueous solution. The CM-chitosan adsorbed 8.96 and 2.09 mmol/g while neat chitosan removed 6.71 and 1.58 mmol/g of Cu+2 and Pb+2 ions, respectively. The untreated bentonite (UB), acid treated bentonite (ATB) and magnetite impregnated bentonite (MIB) has been examined as adsorbents for the removal of Brilliant green (BG) dye from aqueous medium. The batch adsorption experiments were conducted at different pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, dye concentration and temperature. The adsorption of BG was dependent on pH of the solutions and the optimized pH value for their adsorption is 8. The adsorption data were fitted to Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models, which were best fitted to Langmuir isotherm model. The monolayer adsorption capacity of UB, ATB and MIB was 689.6, 785, 877 mg/g, respectively. The kinetic study was analyzed by pseudo first, second and intraparticle diffusion models. It was found that adsorption of BG onto all three adsorbents followed pseudo second order kinetic model. Polycaprolactone/poly(vinyl chloride) (PCL/PVC) and graphene nanoplates/ polycaprolactone /poly(vinyl chloride) (GNPs/PCL/PVC) composites films/sheets were prepared by solution casting technique. The GNPs were functionalized by acid treatment, which introduce carboxyl functional group. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of neat PVC and GNPs/PCL/PVC nanocomposites illustrated that there is no obvious phase separation occurred between PCL and PVC, and seemed to be miscible. The SEM micrographs also presented that the GNPs are uniformly distributed and embedded within the PCL/PVC blend. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) study showed that the melting temperature (Tm) of GNPs/PCL/PVC nanocomposites was slightly higher than neat PCL/PVC. The thermogravimetric analyzers (TGA) thermograms presented that the thermal stability of GNPs/PCL/PVC were about 20-30 °C higher than PCL/PVC blend. The Poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) (10 wt% PMMA/90 wt%PVC (a) and 20wt% PMMA/80 wt.% PVC (ss)) blends, and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (F-MWNTs) filled a and ss nanocomposites were prepared via solution casting technique. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images show that PMMA and PVC are completely miscible in the blend system. The thermo gravimetric analyzer (TGA) thermograms of a and ss blends system showed that there is two stage thermal degradation, the first stage degradation of PMMA/PVC is due to dehydrochlorination of PVC. The F-MWNTs (1 and 3 wt %) filled a and ss nanocomposites showed similar TG curves as shown by neat a and ss blends. However, the thermal stabilities of F-MWNTs/PMMA/PVC shifted toward high temperature (about 20 oC) as compared to pure PMMA/PVC blends. The mechanical properties of a and ss were gradually decreased when the quantity of F-WMNTs was increased in a and ss blends, which might be due to the crack formation /agglomeration of F-MWNTs within both type of polymer blends. It was found that the solvent uptake of neat blends and F-MWNTs filled blend systems was rapid initially and then almost constant after reaching a specific time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Polycaprolactone(PCL) and Fe2O3/PCL nanocomposites sheets/films were prepared by solution casting method. The morphological study illustrated that Fe2O3 nanoparticles were dispersed and embedded well within the PCL matrix. The size of Fe2O3 nanoparticles were below 250 nm. The thermal stability of Fe2O3/PCL nanocomposites was lower than neat PCL, which might be due to Fe2O3(act as catalyst during the thermal degradation of PCL). The differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) analyses show that the crystallization temperature of the nanocomposites was slightly enhanced as compared to neat PCL. The polarized optical microscopy(POM) analyses showed that the size of Fe2O3/PCL nanocomposites spherulites were smaller than neat PCL. The photodegradation study presented that the nanocomposites photodegraded higher quantity of rhodamine B dye as compared to neat PCL. The neat PCL degraded about 24 and 72% while Fe2O3(6 wt%)/PCL nanocomposites degraded about 72 and 98% of dye within 2 and 10 h, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
