S>The ruthenium compound obtained by the reaction of nitric oxide with ruthenium tetroxide in carbon tetrachloride and referred to as Ru/sub 2/.NBO/sub 15/ by Martin and by Fletcher et al. was studied. Infrared examination included the use of the N/sup 15/ form of the complex. The reactions involved in its preparation and its behavior in both organic and aqueous media indicate that it may be a nitrato-complex containing two bisnitrosylruthenium groups linked by an oxo-bridge. Infrared absorptions of a number of other compounds containing the Ru-O bond are reported. (auth)
