Abstract

A norbornene-tetrazine cycloaddition and a bioorthogonal and modular conjugation method was applied for efficient coupling of organic dyes and biomolecules to quantum dots (QDs). The method could also be applied for the in situ targeting of norbornene-coated QDs to live cancer cells labeled with tetrazine-modified proteins.

Abstract

The synthesis of InAs quantum dots (QDs) with a ZnCdS shell with bright and stable emission in the near-infrared (NIR, 700-900 nm) region which could be used for biological imaging applications is presented. Targeted cellular labeling which might allow multiplexed and low autofluorescence cellular imaging is also presented.

Abstract

A new class of polymeric ligands for quantum dot (QD) water solubilization to yield biocompatible and derivatizable QDs with compact size, high quantum yields, excellent stability across a large pH range (pH 5-10.5), and low nonspecific binding is presented. The small size and low serum binding of polymer-coated QDs synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer-mediated polymerization (RAFT) could be applied for in vivo imaging of the tumor microenvironment in live mice.

Abstract

Thin-film solid-state light-emitting devices have been fabricated by using blends of a trischelated complex of ruthenium(II) with 4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline disulfonate ligands and lithium triflate complexed poly(ethylene oxide). Charge injection occurs via an electrochemical redox mechanism and the mechanism of light production is similar to electrogenerated chemiluminescence. Orange-red light is emitted with a turn-on voltage of 2.5−3.0 V. At 6 V, devices reach luminance levels of about 100 cd/m2 with an external quantum efficiency of 0.02% photons/electron. The admixed PEO acts both as a film processing aid, giving uniform, homogeneous, and reproducible devices, and as a polymer electrolyte for ruthenium complex and counterion diffusion. Devices reach about 50% of their maximum luminance within a few seconds, and reach maximum luminance in about a minute. Abstract

We present the synthesis of Cd(3)As(2) colloidal quantum dots luminescent from 530 to 2000 nm. Previous reports on quantum dots emitting in the infrared are primarily limited to the lead chalcogenides and indium arsenide. This work expands the availability of high quality infrared emitters.

Abstract

We present the synthesis of InAs quantum dots (QDs) with a ZnCdS shell with bright and stable emission in the near-infrared (NIR, 700-900 nm) region for biological imaging applications. We demonstrate how NIR QDs can image tumor vasculature in vivo at significantly deeper penetration depths and with higher contrast than visible emitting CdSe(CdS) QDs. Targeted cellular labeling is also presented and may enable multiplexed and low autofluorescence cellular imaging.

Abstract

We present a bioorthogonal and modular conjugation method for efficient coupling of organic dyes and biomolecules to quantum dots (QDs) using a norbornene-tetrazine cycloaddition. The use of noncoordinating functional groups combined with the rapid rate of the cycloaddition leads to highly efficient conjugation. We have applied this method to the in situ targeting of norbornene-coated QDs to live cancer cells labeled with tetrazine-modified proteins.
