A study was conducted to analyze the electron-transfer rates and electronic coupling factors for ferrocene groups linked to gold electrodes by oligo(phenylethynyl) molecular wire bridges. The attachment to gold was realized through thiol groups at the end of the bridge opposite the ferrocene. Results indicated that the extrapolated rate constants at very short distances were similar for the conjugated bridge series and for an associated monolayer series.

Research was conducted to examine the carbon-carbon bond activation by rhodium(I) in solution. Metal insertion into a strong Ar-CH2CH3 bond was observed prior to Beta-H elimination. It was also observed that sp2-sp3 C-C bond activation in the system is kinetically preferable to the unobserved sp3-sp3 C-C bond activation with rhodium(I) regardless of the bulk and the electron density at the metal center.

Bovine submaxillary mucin and porcine gastric mucin have accelerated the rate of fatty acid p-nitrophenol ester hydrolysis up to 337 times and a carbon-carbon bond-forming Diels-Alder reaction between N-propylmaleimide and anthracene up to 200 times relative to the rates of the reference processes. The new properties of mucins to accelerate organic reactions have provided a new example of natural nonenzymatic proteins capable of promoting reactions of hydrophobic materials in aqueous solution.

The strong, unstrained strong carbon-carbon (C-C) bond in a aromatic compound undergoes oxidative addition to a soluble metal complex and this process is thermodynamically more preferable than the C-H bond oxidative oxidation. During the reaction of a basic aromatic phosphine with ClRh(PEt3)3, oxidative addition occurs at one of the C-C bonds to the rhodium center, leading to a compound in which the configuration around rhodium is a distorted octahedral.

The article discusses a study on the catalytic oxidation of hydrazo compounds boosted by a catalyst mixture comprising titanium trichloride (TiCl3) and hydrogen bromide (HBr). TiCl3/HBr system works via two separate catalytic cycles that are connected by radical species. It is found that preparing azo compounds through catalytic oxidation of corresponding hydrazo precursors were highly efficient and corresponds a valuable addition to the chemistry of azo compounds.
