Abstract

The numerous studies explain the intramolecular cycloprotonation process of various unsaturated terminal epoxides and chlorohydrins, which is normally induced by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidide (LTMP) and provides excellent stereoselective entry to phenols. The analysis shows that the related unsaturated cyclohydrins can also undergo such cycloprotonation via in situ epoxide formation and hence can also lead to the synthesis of the asymmetric (+)[beta]-cuparenone.
