This study concerns the design and implementation of a STEM literacy program for 11th to 13th-grade high achieving students, mainly females. The program, funded by the Italian Ministry of Equal Opportunities, aims at reducing the gender gap in the STEM disciplines and at orienting students towards university studies. We carried out a qualitative analysis of the students' perception in terms of (1) a-priori expectations about the STEM literacy program and (2) a-posteriori thoughts and reflections about the attended course. Our analysis shows that students aspiring to participate had strong motivations with respect to the program; moreover, most students who participated in the program displayed satisfaction and an increase of awareness about their learning. We put a specific focus on the mathematical sessions of the curriculum, involving students as designers of educational resources. Some differences between male and female students arose for what concerns the perception of the program and the awareness of the impact of the STEM literacy program on their own learning.

This paper focuses on changes in the Media-Political Communications of the Muslim Brotherhood while in power in Egypt in 2012 and 2013. The MB or al-Ikhwan al-Muslimun is regarded as the mother of Islamist movements in the Middle East. During their period in power, the group established its first TV channel Misr25 and launched a daily newspaper al-Hurria wa al- 'Adala. No other studies have researched the communications of the Brotherhood or their approach to media while they were in power. The Brotherhood's communications during this period were little more than themes and trends that were communicated from the top down by the group's leadership to their media outlets, which lacked sufficient independence to do their work based on editorial values alone. This study identifies these themes, analyses them, and places them within the wider context of the literature in historical and regional contexts. This paper concludes that the Brotherhood's main aim was to achieve a constitution with an Islamic background regardless of hostility and criticism. The study also shows that the Brotherhood moved towards antagonist discourses as the opposition rallied against them, and underlines the troubled relationship between the Brotherhood and the main actors in Egyptian society, which were the army, the Christians and the secular opposition. The paper uniquely answers questions related to the Brotherhood's rule in Egypt in 2012 and 2013 through the analysis of its media.

Thermodynamic processes are part of the road of a thermodynamic system, while it has an initial and final state of the thermal trajectory. Nevertheless, there are many intricate variables while the process goes from a transient to a steady state, in many contexts it causes imbalances in the final system, such as given losses in internal efficiencies of subsystems from the main system, furthermore the total losses in the system efficiency. Hence, in this work is proposed a procedure to optimize a general thermodynamic process which was evaluated in different applications that are part of primary manufacturing tasks like there are in Perú, even they can produce pollution or disturbances in nature conditions when it is not an optimal procedure to develop the thermodynamic process. This proposal procedure is based in mathematical modelling by correlation in theoretical analysis of the thermal system with analysis of experimental data through adaptive/predictive techniques, moreover, it was evaluated and suggested applications of new technologies as sensors/actuators based in nanostructures due to faster and robust characteristics as comparisons with traditional sensors/actuators. Finally, the results achieved were interpreted by standards norms that help to keep based comparisons to interchange with international community.

The use of a multisensor system, composed of a set of heterogeneous sensors and other devices has already been demonstrated to improve sensibly the recognition capability, through the exploitation of its spatial/capability diversity, given by the presence of multiple devices and coordinated processes which perform threat detection/recognition. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a multidisciplinary system, which uses a combination of a multisensory classification algorithm and a multidisciplinary fusion rule. This fusion rule combines the decisions coming from different channels with the reasoning process of a machine learning/human in the loop agent. The multidisciplinary fusion rule takes into account the different channel decisions, taken by different sensors and/or devices, and the intelligence provided by the machine learning/ human in the loop channel. The purpose of this channel is to highlight the channels which, inside the machine learning process and through the interaction with the human in the loop agent, show better performance in terms of recognition capabilities in the specific scenario. The performance evaluation of the multidisciplinary threat recognition system is carried out by considering different case studies. The evaluation demonstrates that a multidisciplinary system can classify different threats, by using a set of methods and algorithms, with a high probability of correct classification.

Deep Learning (DP) models have been successfully applied to detect and predict failures in rotating machines. However, these models are often based on the supervised learning paradigm and require annotated data with operational status labels (e.g. normal or failure). Furthermore, machine measurement data is not commonly labeled by industry because of the manual and specialized effort that they require. In situations where labels are nonexistent or cannot be developed, unsupervised machine learning has been successfully applied for pattern recognition in large and multivariate datasets. Thus, instead of experts labeling a large amount of structured and/or non-structured data instances (also referred to as Big Data), unsupervised machine learning allows the annotation of the dataset from the few underlying interesting patterns detected. Therefore, we evaluate the performance of six unsupervised learning algorithms for the identification of anomalous patterns from a turbogenerator installed and operating in an oil and gas platform. The algorithms were C-AMDATS, Luminol Bitmap, SAX-REPEAT, k-NN, Bootstrap, and Robust Random Cut Forest. The evaluation performance was quantitatively calculated with seven classification metrics. The C-AMDATS algorithm was able to effectively and better detect the anomalous patterns, and it presented an accuracy of 99%, which leverages the further development of supervised DL models.

The effect of contact between cells on forming orientation of cells under the shear flow field has been investigated in vitro. To create a Couette type of the shear flow, the culture medium was sandwiched with a constant gap between parallel walls: a lower stationary culture disk, and an upper rotating disk. The wall shear stress (2 Pa) on the lower culture disk was controlled by the rotating speed of the upper disk. Myoblasts (C2C12: mouse myoblast cell line) were used in the test. After cultivation without flow for 24 hours for adhesion of cells on the lower plate, the constant wall shear stress was continuously applied on cells for 7 days in the incubator. The behavior of each cell was traced at the time-lapse images observed by an inverted phase contrast microscope placed in an incubator. The experimental results quantitatively show that increase of the contact region between cells affects forming perpendicular orientation of cells against the main flow direction.

With a text mining and bibliometrics approach, we review the literature on the evolution of deep learning in medical image literature from 2012 – 2020 to understand the current state of the research and to identify the major research themes in image analysis to answer our research questions: RQ1: What are the learning modes that are evident in the literature? RQ2: What are the emerging learning modes in the literature? RQ3: What are the major themes in medical imaging literature? The analysis of 8704 resulting from a data collection process from peer-reviewed databases, our analysis discovered the six major themes of image segmentation studies, studies with image classification, evaluation procedures such as sensitivity and specificity, optical coherence tomography studies, MRI imaging studies, and Chest imaging studies. Additionally, we assessed the number of articles published each year, the frequent keywords, the author networks, the trending topics, and connections to other topics. We discovered that segmenting and classifying the images are the most common tasks. Transfer learning is the most researched area and cancer is the highly targeted disease and Covid-19 is the most recent research trend.

The global pandemic and subsequent quarantine measures and restrictions have posed an array of challenges to the structure and procedure of education workflow. Foreign Languages Acquisition and Linguistic Education assessment are fundamentally interdisciplinary processes, informed by the nature of linguistic content and types of communicative and professional activities. Cross-sectorial factors of societal change, that provide the backdrop for an interdisciplinary skillset critical transformation, crucial for the COVID-19 emergency educational framework, are considered. The study is based on identification of various interdisciplinary competency principles, derivative of 21st century skills for university staff members and projected digital literacy requirements. It is determined how in the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown all elements of the Final Qualification Assessment at Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University, Ukraine, for European and Oriental Languages programs have been relegated to the digital, remote or hybrid format with the use of ICT tools and skills that comprise an interdisciplinary realm of Foreign Languages acquisition and assessment. Every step of the procedure adaptation to digital format required accelerated development of interdisciplinary skills of all participants and officials and cross-sectorial activities, otherwise not carried out through assessment of Foreign Languages programs.

Based on extensive research of the literature on the cur-rent status of the health sector in Germany, the four spot-light areas of CRITIS, the pandemic situation, pandemic planning, and communication and learning are discussed in more detail in connection with information security. They may be used to create an integrative research map for holistic approaches in future research projects. With this in mind, the aim of this paper is to summarize key aspects of the spotlight areas based on a sound under-standing of the literature. The focus here is on general lessons learned from previous awareness-raising projects in information security.

In this paper, the numerical solution of the Partial Differential Equation Bilaplacian type by the finite element method is presented in order to simulate the accelerometer-type MEMS behavior. The above mentioned solution is used to emulate the behavior of the deformation of an Accelerometer-type MEMS. The technique is the physically based modelling as a methodology of simulation with visualization that was used to solve the current problem. The first step is to solve the partial differential equation, which represents the structure, by the finite element method. This numerical method was instrumented in Octave, taking into account the primitive functions that it contains, and taking advantage of the powerful language, and free software resource. For this problem, the software built, it has results suitable for these types of problems and has well rates of error. Once these types of results have been obtained, the next step will be the rendering and interpretation of the results in a graphical way. In spite of the complexity and size in memory used by the numerical method, this procedure results be a good alternative for this case and maybe in other similar cases. In future works will be looking for parallelize some numerical methods.

The discussions on the concept of competences 4.0 in the context of 4th industrial revolution, or industry 4.0, have been being growing recently, and extensive analyses and researches have been being carried out by experts within various scientific disciplines such as management, economy, psychology, education, human resource, informatics and systemics. Due to the relevance of industry 4.0 concept in relation to current socio-economic challenges worldwide, the growing interest on the part of researchers and the proliferation of the above-mentioned terms in literature has formed a complicated network of patterns and relations constituting a scientific landscape of the discussions in questions. Accordingly, the aim of this article is to explain the contextual terminology of these discussions, namely: industry 4.0 and competences 4.0, and to discuss the nature of interdisciplinarity as one of the key factors defining future skills in the context of the new labor market needs.

Article describes CNC milling center programing during 3 axis finish milling. Article is focused on setting the tolerance of toolpaths during finish milling in CAM systems. Finding of suitable toolpaths during finish milling is very time consuming and can be expensive. Target is to recommend specific settings of tolerance in CAM system with the respect to achieved accuracy, machining time, surface roughness and quantity of NC blocks. The aim is also to compare the practical results of machining with predicted simulation. The methodology evaluating this problem is based on the following steps: experimental sample design for 3axis milling, accuracy prediction of machined samples, production of samples using CNC milling center, analysis of accuracy and surface roughness with respect to shape of workpiece. The result is the variance of shape accuracy deviations from the specified CAD model of the workpiece, focused on individual areas of its shape. The research results show milled surface errors depending on the toolpath tolerances. It is not preferred to set very low tolerance in the CAM system with respect to increasing machining time.

Recent workforce disruptions highlight the need for just-in-time competency acquisition. Developing cyber-human tools that incorporate both human guidance and artificial intelligence may shorten learning and provide better career-upskilling pathways. Deconstructing degree programs to provide adaptive pathways of multi-modal micro-experiences offers greater flexibility. To implement such learning programming, the Calhoun Discovery Program (CDP) at Virginia Tech and its industry and non-profit partners are developing an adaptive education model based on Integrative Professional and Personal Competencies (IPPCs) for Industry 4.0. We argue that implementing whole-person-development-focused curricula that uses heterogeneous analytics and adaptive pathways can increase learners' mobility within current and future economies. With our partners, we have developed real-world applied problem solving experiences to prepare transdisciplinary learners to work collaboratively on Industry 4.0 applications promoting sustainable and equitable development. This paper defines IPPCs and elaborates how they are integrated in the CDP through Problem-based Learning Experiences (PBLE), research and just-in-time modules. We note program outcomes over the first two years or operations and the generalizable takeaways of IPPC-based learning. Next, we describe computer-assisted tools we will develop to help us standardize and scale this learning model and summarize what the learning cycle looks like in our model. We conclude by sketching prospects for scaling this approach to K-12, industry and other settings.

We describe the Data Protection and Privacy Relationships Model (DAPPREMO), which is based on high mathematics and the set theory, considering that the data protection and privacy regulation and Ethics principles in those domains belong to a set. DAPPREMO is a new and innovative solution to adopt a model in any data protection and privacy activities. We theorize that DAPPREMO is an innovative approach to have a broad overview of all the objects related to a specific case or more cases from a data protection and privacy perspective. DAPPREMO is the result of a multidisciplinary approach by combining the legal view based both on the existing laws on privacy and the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and mathematics. We describe DAPPREMO as a solution for a multidisciplinary approach to address any data protection and privacy issue.

The development of digital economy in the XXI century, elaboration of the networked society and communities of knowledge, digitization of education due to pandemic measures have led to revisions of the interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial job market demands of Liberal Arts university graduates' skillsets, upon entering the workforce. This, in turn, stipulates reevaluation of the interdisciplinary approaches to comprehensive professional competences in foreign languages acquisition, education, and application. The study is focused on the diagnostics of the development of meta-learning status, interdisciplinary interoperability of digital competence for students of European (English, Spanish, French, Italian, German) and Oriental (Mandarin Chinese, Japanese) Languages major programs through the span of educational activities in the time-frame of COVID-19 quarantine measures of March 2020 to April 2021. The inquiry derives a model of digital meta-skills for interdisciplinary competence in foreign languages education and professional application. The survey study is implemented to evaluate the digital meta-literacy of foreign languages majors through dimensions of interdisciplinarity of educational content, domains of professional application, soft skills, professional linguistic and communication skills, and customized digital skills for Foreign Languages Education.

The term Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a broad class of devices used by business entities as well as consumers to provide or consume a broad array of services. All these devices share their need to connect to the internet to deliver their native functionality. This connection requirement exposes the devices to the cybersecurity threats found on the internet. Existing literature on IoT cybersecurity solution models has shown that different technologies, such as communication technologies, mobile-app based authorization framework, graph-theoretic approach or blockchain technologies, have been majorly proposed to solve IoT security issues. However, these studies only focus on some specific IoT security issues like data theft or security issues on some specific layer across the whole IoT architecture. Therefore, there is a lack of systematic framework to solve IoT cybersecurity issues. This paper presents a framework for assessing such risks. In the qualitative analysis results, the device threats seem more severe than data confidentiality and privacy issues. This surprising finding highlights the significances of security taxonomy because both issues are based on different technical requirements. Our study has important managerial and practical implications for users, managers, and policymakers.

The global situation experienced due to the advance of the covid-19 pandemic and the requirements of social isolation has affected multiple sectors, especially the education sector. In particular, teachers, support workers and university students have taken on a great challenge by recognizing that conditions have changed but learning is not delayed. Therefore, they have seen the need to implement virtual education strategies in a short period of time. For the universities in which face-to-face was the daily learning model, which do not have the necessary infrastructure for the new virtual modality, it has been a threat to the environment as they were forced, under these conditions, to migrate from face-to-face education to non-attendance. face-to-face, emergent way. That is why this study emphasizes the adverse effects of the social emergency caused by COVID-19 in the university teaching work environment, the appearance of stress and the need for institutions to adopt measures to improve their situation in terms of technology organization, methods and techniques and improve their digital skills in line with emerging global trends and realities, to avoid negative consequences on the mental health of their teachers and students.

Before 1970 both foreign language and mathematics were hard to learn because the two taught grammar before language. Then a turn took place in foreign language education allowing students to learn it through communication. Mathematics education never had a similar turn, so it is still hard for many. Therefore, this paper asks if it is possible to learn mathematics as communication. We see that three different kinds of mathematics are taught, pre-setcentric, setcentric and post-setcentric. And that the three grand theories disagree as to which to recommend. Being inspired by the fact that children communicate about the physical fact Many with two-dimensional box- and bundle-numbers with units, a curriculum is designed where trigonometry is rooted in a mutual recounting of the three sides in a box halved by its diagonal. This study is a meta-cognitive discussion about whether non-English scientists know about the existence of computer tools – such as monolingual, bilingual and multilingual electronic dictionaries, CAT [Computer Assisted Translation] tools - and whether they know how to use them in order to communicate their inter-disciplinary research internationally. It also discusses what is at stake when concepts such as inter-scientificity (i.e. “bar”, with 17 different terms in Greek) and reverse inter-scientificity (i.e. “πρόγραμμα” [: program] with at least 6 different terms in English) emerge. Then the author of this study claims that only human mind/intelligence (nous) - with the aid artificial intelligence (computer –CAT tools) and through different mental/cognitive processes (noesis) can establish certain criteria in choosing appropriate terms and expressions, so that an inter-disciplinary research can be communicated properly and thus (international) scientific communication can be achieved effectively. Finally, the author of the present study proposes that Higher Education Institutions [HEIs] in North America (the USA and Canada) and Europe should get involved in educating and training both their large number of international students and staff administrative and academic), if a proper international inter-disciplinary communication is to be attained.

This article discusses the research on the role of 4.0 competences in the implementation of projects under Erasmus+ Programme – the European Union initiative for education, training youth and sport (2014-2020). It also puts the competences 4.0 in the perspective of labour market expectations in times of the fourth industrial revolution.

The instructional delivery methods in many Ghanaian tertiary institutions are characterized by rigid curricula with little or no classroom discussions and interaction. These practices restrict creativity and transformation as students are separated from inquiry and only perform the role of listening, memorizing, and repeating the thoughts and ideas teachers narrate. Students lack exposure to learning environments that are conducive to cultivate critical thinking skills and develop critical consciousness. This qualitative case study explored how problem-posing education informs the instructional delivery methods in a Ghanaian university. The study focused on problem-posing education, a principle of Paulo Freire's critical pedagogy as the framework for the study. The study purposefully selected 11 participants (two faculty members, eight students, and one administrative staff) who provided substantial data and deeper meaning and understanding of the phenomenon. The data revealed that problem-posing education informs the institution's instructional delivery methods through problem-based curricula content, entrepreneurial skill development, and feedback/partnership opportunities. The study's findings indicate that problem-posing education advocates cognition and transformative learning.

Social inequality has become a challenging social phenomenon in many advanced countries. Individuals are affected by social divisions of race, gender, economic, cultural, and political structures. Among these social divisions, income and power inequality have become the major political preoccupation in most developed countries. In the United States, income disparity between the upper and middle classes has been increasing for several decades. While the top 1% earners who contributed to 10% of the U.S. national income in 1980 increased to 20% in 2016, the bottom 50% earners who contributed to 20% of national income in 1980 decreased to 13% in 2016. There have been several interpretations of this phenomenon but from a globalization point of view. This study, therefore, explores the phenomenon of economic and power inequality from a globalization standpoint. Using intersectionality as the theoretical framework, this paper explores how various social constructs intersect in a globalized economy to create income and power disparities. The author adopts a systematic literature review approach to identify gaps, contradictions, inconsistencies, interpretations, and connections in the literature relative to the phenomenon being explored. The findings will add to the scholarly literature on socioeconomic inequality and provide meaningful recommendations to improve U.S. social policies.

A music database is indispensable for both basic research on earphone hearing loss prevention and music therapy. In this study, Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas and 16 string quartets are added to into the classical music genre of the database. And then, the relationship between his progress in hearing loss and the pitch distribution used in these works is discussed. Several elements are considered for the information that needs to be included in the music database: WAVE data and the corresponding spectrum obtained by FT analysis, musical score, and optional MIDI data, and the corresponding pitch distribution. The present study shows the following results. Both Beethoven's piano sonatas and string quartets have frequency characteristics close to the natural 1/f spectrum, which is comfortable and not dangerous to the ears. On the other hand, there are minor differences in the same classical music. For example, a string quartet can be effective in inducing sleep, and a piano sonata can be ear-friendly.

Transformative shifts in the knowledge economy of the XXI century, Industry 4.0 and Web 4.0 development and elaboration of networked society, emergency digitization of all social communicative spheres due to pandemic measures have imposed pressing revisions onto interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial job market demands of university level education, curriculum design and learning outcomes. The COVID-19 pandemic induced amplified digitalization measures in the higher education sphere, informed by the need to take quick comprehensive action in order to achieve the overarching result to transform educational and communicative scenarios into interdisciplinary digital, remote, and hybrid formats. The consequent functional tasks to meet this challenge in the educational sphere worldwide are estimated as 1) to adapt the existent educational scenarios to digital, remote and hybrid formats; 2) to upgrade e-competence and digital literacy of all stakeholders of the educational process and industry; 3) to activate complex interdisciplinary skillsets, otherwise latent or underutilized in the professional interaction; 4) to introduce functional technical solutions for facilitation of formal and informal educational workflow and communication. The findings of the comprehensive framework research project 'TRANSITION' disclose a wide scope of generalized theoretical and applied issues, permeating the social and educational context worldwide: global event horizon and paradigm shifts in the interdisciplinary trends of digital education in the Covid-19 timeframe and beyond; transformative changes and avenues of development of the network society and education as an interdisciplinary socio-cultural institution and industry in the digital age; global experiences, universal/generic challenges, technical advances and specific national gains in quality assurance of online and hybrid learning in the Covid-19 paradigm.

Image classification is widely used in many fields. Traditional metric learning based classification methods always maximize between-class distances and minimize within-class distances based on features calculated from each individual. Different from traditional methods, this paper takes each class as a distribution and try to maximize the distances among different distributions using information geometry. In order to minimize the distance among individuals within a class, the paper assumes that each class follows a joint Gaussian distribution and takes an exploratory study on the relation between a within-class distance and the determinant of the covariance matrix of the distribution. It is found that under some assumptions, the average within-class distance among the same class is proportional to the standard deviation (for a random variable) or the product of standard deviations of each feature (for a random vector). As a result, the standard deviation (for a random variable) or the determinant of the covariance matrix (for a random vector) is used to substitute the within-class distance in the metric learning. The proposed method thereinafter saves a lot of computational cost. The method is then applied to person re-identification, which is a very important application in a 5G time, such as smart city. To our surprise, the proposed method is very competitive compared with many state-of-the-art methods while saving the computational cost in the learning stage. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The mission of the university goes beyond contributing to society with the results of its research and innovation. Its scope is prompting and supporting young people to gain new knowledge while encouraging them to consider/include forms of social engagement. Then, it is crucial for teachers to engage students in the learning process. Students use technology to communicate; thus, they are more likely and comfortable to participate in a technology-driven environment. This purpose could be pursued through the correct choice of educational technologies within the learning environments. Communication technologies have the potential to engage learners while also providing motivation and support for both teaching and learning. This paper focuses on the definition of educational technologies and on the description of a grid of 12 technologies that were chosen based on the research activities undertaken in doctoral research at the Politecnico di Milano. Subsequently, the technologies are classified through different mappings and methodologies to produce a description showing advantages, disadvantages, and contexts of use. Finally, it analyses the technologies from the point of view of 2 learning contexts, on-site and online, to help create new hybrid learning processes.

In this study the author will present how Human Intelligence (HI – nous), in co-operation with Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Internet can communicate his/her knowledge and interdisciplinary research to an international context (i.e., Erasmus exchange programs and/or international conferences). Having over a twenty-year experience of teaching ESP/EAP at a non-English University and over a twenty-five-year experience of editing research papers in English, the writer will present how a nous/student/researcher and an academic can use to his/her advantage IT tools, such as electronic dictionaries and forums. Finally, the author of this study will propose: (a) a couple of methods, which can be applied through AI (i.e., Google or any other search engines) so that the non-English nous/student/researcher/academic (a nous) will be certain that s/he communicates "correctly" and "appropriately" his/her research in an international context whose primary language of communication is English; and (b) a specific bilingual (or multilingual) knowledge management tool (i.e. an electronic TDB: Terminological Data Bank).

In a scene radically varied by the effects of the pandemic, a reflection opens on which guidelines and methods should turn today educational research, an area no less spared, which also manifests the fragility of a system made of static habits. The knowledge of how design originates from the ability to adapt to the changes of a society in continuous evolution, in which modernity has however unquestionably marked the loss of forms built over the centuries, implementing a radical break with the past. Investigating the variations of teaching through the comparison between historical models and new tools and processes of the digital age, the paper questions the concept of form, proper to the design project but also immaterial tool of culture, a means of coexistence and a place of mutual exchange, to define the changeability we are witnessing in the transition from classrooms to home desks. In fact, it is increasingly necessary to re-establish relations between the parties involved, to restore a communicative capacity that knows how to overcome difficulties and fears in the awareness that, as in the most famous physical law, nothing is created or destroyed, but it only changes in its form.

Threat Recognition is a primary task in Homeland Protection systems. When performing this task, Human in the Loop is the main part of a multidisciplinary reasoning process, that allows to achieve a high probability of correct classification. This reasoning process relies on two important factors, namely the past recognition history and the threat scenario. The Human in the Loop agent contributes both in controlling the automated process and in acting as a decision support system in different situations, such as dynamic changes in the scenario and occurrence of anomalous conditions. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a multidisciplinary system, which uses a combination of a multisensory classification algorithm and a multidisciplinary fusion rule. This fusion rule combines the decisions coming from different channels with the reasoning process of a Human in the Loop agent. The performance evaluation of the multidisciplinary threat recognition system is carried out by considering different case studies. The evaluation demonstrates that a multidisciplinary system with a Human in the Loop agent can classify different threats, by using a set of methods and algorithms, with a high probability of correct classification, when compared to a completely automated recognition criterium.

This paper describes innovative approaches to the development of an academic course in information technologies in agronomy. The results of an effective combination of teaching methods through solving crosscutting situational tasks were created by a group of teachers. The authors demonstrate efficiency of introduction of modern information systems into the educational process due to the use of discipline software provided by stakeholders with the examples of interactive tasks in the environment of the IS for real-time production process management. Program results are corresponding to standards of higher education in Ukraine, to the European framework of e-competences and were discussed with employers, which are the heads of agricultural enterprises, representatives of agribusiness and IT companies. The article shows examples of motivational measures during training and summarizes the results of cooperation between universities and business. The relevance of the work is considering in the context of Agriculture 4.0's current trends and studying the needs of employers and software developers.

This paper adopts his line of thought to join the dots between cybernetics and the philosophy of Existentialism, and then interconnect both with contemporary art. It demonstrates that while terminologies may differ, many of the three fields' primary concerns closely cohere. The world's most ground-breaking artists are found to apply and fuse cybernetic paradigms and Existentialist themes, from Robert Rauschenberg and Marina Abramović to Damien Hirst, Stelarc and Anish Kapoor. The research offers the first detailed comparison between cybernetics and Existentialism, and reveals surprising commonalities. Feedback loops, circular causality and negative entropy are not only central tenets of cybernetics, but also of Existentialism. Autonomy, autopoiesis and interactivity equally unite both fields, and each is visionary and forward looking in seeking radical change and transformations. Both explored artistic endeavours, with Existentialists Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus equally renowned for their powerful novels and plays as their philosophical works, while cybernetic art became a major phenomenon in the 1960s following the landmark exhibition Cybernetic Serendipity: the Computer in the Arts (1968), and influenced artistic practices thereafter.

Taking into consideration the use of the systemic models in interdisciplinary research and education, we analyze the perception of the musical act developed by Talcott Parsons in 1959, based on his Structural-Functional Theory for the social analysis of 1951. In this article, the creative act of the develops considering the demands of his role as a composer and performer, and the conditions the society at large imposed. This relationship also involves the interpretation of the inherited musical culture and is related to the composing skills of the author, the instrumental technique of the performer, and musical intelligence. As a case study, we take the emergence of the Mexican bolero to illustrate it. From this sociological approach, we can understand the identity of the Mexican bolero as a product of an era, in which both the composition and the musical performance are adapted to their cultural environment and are part of the society and its structure. Based on Parsons' proposal, we created a conceptual systemic model through four modules: Personal, Behavioral, Social, and Cultural. This model also represents the internalization, learning and socializations processes, which were the interrelationships between the systems for Parsons. Later we began to develop it in a computational systemic model, in which it is intended to measure the different variables of the musical act system, considering different contexts and temporal spaces.

The present survey explores the changes in the teaching of statistics modules during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the impact of these changes on the students of the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science of the University of Piraeus. A questionnaire was prepared and administered online. The survey involved a total of 88 participants aged between 18 and 23. The main questions that were asked addressed: (i) the online structure of the statistics courses compared with the structure of the lifelong courses; (ii) the psychological adjustment of the participants to the contents and obligations of the regular courses; (iii) internet-based communication within the scope of the statistics modules and its role in developing skills relating to the use of statistical software and programming languages (i.e., SPSS, RATS, and R); and (iv) the degree of active participation in the online courses. Based on the outcomes of the survey, we concluded that the students did not notice any significant difference regarding their interest in the course or the transfer of knowledge between the online modules and the lifelong courses. Moreover, we found that courses using games and computers were more effective in terms of learning objectives, though they were more costly than conventional courses. Finally, we discovered that the students preferred the online courses over the regular ones, probably because they were richer and more versatile in structure.

The paper shows the features of the application of the case method in the study of the discipline of IT project management for students majoring in the field of Information Technology. This work analyzes some of the difficulties associated with the limited use of case studies in the field of IT. An original solution to the problem of combining flexible technologies for the development of the project itself on the basis of a case study and methods of studying and applying special software for IT project management presented by authors. The conceptual scheme of the main stages of work with a case, interrelations and content from an initial acquaintance, discussion in groups and acceptance of intermediate decisions, to planning of operations, calendar planning of works and resources were shown. However, the role of special software for visualization of separate stages of project execution management in the MS Project environment at all stages of the life cycle was explained. The combination of individual analytical work of the students, acquisition of teem job skills, the study of MS Project tools, IT project management methods at different stages allows to achieve the planned learning outcomes and develop interdisciplinary competencies.

The change in direction of a cell flowing over an oblique micro groove has been analyzed in vitro. The micro flow-channel (0.05 mm height × 1 mm width × 25 mm length) with oblique micro grooves (4.5 μm depth) was manufactured on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) disk by the micromachining technique. The angle between the main flow direction and the longitudinal axis of the groove is 45 degrees. The effect of variation of the groove width (0.03 mm, 0.04 mm, and 0.05 mm) was studied. Myoblasts (C2C12: mouse myoblast cell line) were used in the test. The main flow velocity (0.02 mm/s < vx < 0.23 mm/s) of the medium was controlled by the pressure difference between the inlet and the outlet. The shape of each flowing cell was tracked on a movie recorded by the camera attached to the eyepiece of the microscope. The experimental results show that the change of the direction of each cell by each groove depends on the shape of the cell, which depends on both the shape of the cell and the width of the groove.

The convergence of data, computation, and globalization in education has far-reaching consequences for educational stakeholders, institutions, and learners. Terms such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence (AI), exponential technology, deep learning, personalized competency-based learning, and distributed ledger technology networks (DLTNs) are indicators of the changing dialogue between education stakeholders, businesses, and government aspirations on a global scale. Location-independent virtual environments promise an exponential expansion that goes beyond brick-and-mortar schools, colleges, and universities. AI and intelligent systems are poised to become global change agents in education, ushering in profound changes in administrative functions, strategic planning, data aggregation, student acquisition and retention, and alternative currencies, as well as curriculum design, assessment, personal learning networks, and global competitiveness generally of both institutions and their graduates. The quality of the education a nation's schools, educational institutions, and teachers provide, along with investments in science, technology engineering, and mathematics education, directly impact economic prosperity and global competitiveness. This paper explores some of the interdependencies that arise from supercharged technological advances such as AI augmented reality digital technologies (ARDTs) and DLTNs and their possible impact on education, educators, learners, and society. In addition, it unbundles the meaning and use cases of AI, ARDTs, and DLTNs in education.

Use of computer assisted software (CAS), typically combined with a problem-solving pedagogy, is common in 1) mathematics, 2) STEM, 3) writing, 4) certification exam preparation, and 5) business training. Since there are many competing CAS products, a user must know I) what benefits to expect from good CAS, and II) what the minimum requirements are. I) The benefits of good CAS are I-A) increased student mastery due to increased practice leading to self-efficacy, I-B) heightened awareness of objectivity, encouraging a perception that achievement is based on effort and work, thus increasing inclusion and diversity, and I-C) increased outreach to weaker students who benefit from graduated levels of problem difficulty afforded by the CAS . II) The requirements for a good CAS are II-A) a large database of problems, II-B) a classification of problems using the two-four dozen topics corresponding to the daily topics in a 15-week course syllabus, taught two to three days a week, and II-C) at least 3 levels of graduated difficulty (easy, moderate, advanced) of practice problems for each topic. Note especially that minimally the software is exclusively used for storage implying that these ideas can be implemented manually without using any computer. Simple implementation methods for creating such software are presented for both mathematics and writing courses (both education and business oriented). The assurance that the minimum requirements enumerated lead to the benefits listed is provided by the four educational pillars of Hendel.

Transformative potential of the knowledge economy of the XXI century, establishment of networked society, emergency digitization due to the COVID-19 pandemic measures have imposed elaborate interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary demands on the marketability of Liberal Arts university graduates' skills and competences, upon entering the workforce. The study is focused on the in-depth diagnostics of the development of multipurpose orientation, universality and interdisciplinarity of skillsets for students of European (English, Spanish, French, Italian, German) and Oriental (Mandarin Chinese, Japanese) Languages major programs through the span of educational activities in the time-frame of COVID-19 quarantine measures of March 2020 to January 2021. A computational framework of foreign languages education interdisciplinarity is introduced in the study. The survey analysis is used to evaluate the dimensions of interdisciplinarity, universality and transdiciplinarity, informed by the interoperability of soft skills and digital communication skills for Foreign Languages Education across contrasting timeframes and stages of foreign languages acquisition and early career training.

The history of humankind offers lots of remarkable ideas and innovations in strategy and tactics. There is no area where people have shown more inventiveness than defending themselves or attacking and conquering others. On the other hand, the Agile methodology emerged from software development, where it tried to provide support for the successful organization of delivery projects, that have to fight and conquer the complexity. This article evidences similarities between the Agile methodology and attacking and war strategies, making extended references to one of the most renowned military treaties: Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Making inter-disciplinary analogies, comparing and contrasting the concepts from different disciplines are at the core of this article. We'll investigate what things as initial estimations, attack by stratagem, tactical dispositions, energy, weak points, and strong points, maneuvering, variation in tactics, the army on the march, terrain, arriving on unknown ground, concrete situations on the ground, the use of spies, or what the attack by fire may mean in software development. We'll analyze how these war strategy concepts transpose to Agile concepts like adding business value, getting to the business goals, managing complexity, conducting the work the incremental and non-incremental way.

In this work we intend to share an educational path on mathematical games developed in the last classes of the high schools that participate to the research-project Mathematical High School Project, a project elaborated by the research group in mathematics education of the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno (Italy) and dedicated to scientific high school students. The "Historical path in mathematical games" is a didactic laboratory activity dedicated to students of the last year of scientific high schools. The researchers collaborated with the teachers of the schools and carried out an interdisciplinary path on puzzles and logic games invented or reworked by important mathematicians of the last two centuries. Through these themes that were scientific, historical, artistic, musical, literary ones, connections have been created thank to the presentation of texts, images, paintings, drawings, musical and literary pieces.

This paper evaluates the impact of research centered on enhancing the quality of life. It presents examples of research in which the essential question, pivoting around altruistic possibilities, set in motion long-term outcomes that extended beyond the life of the project. The examples listed occur across the disciplines, in engineering, science, social science, social action research, education, and communications technologies. The human processes that redounded to human progress pointed to the concept that research may matter most when it sustains life, improves the quality of life or otherwise enhances the cohesion and destiny of humans and other species, and that continually holding this as an ideal has the potential to shape the researcher, the research field, and human progress itself. Findings include the long-term outcomes accrued during and beyond the lifetime of the researchers involved. Conclusions are reinforced by transdisciplinary trends inaugurated as the result of research.

The main objective of this work was to explore the configuration of those elements that allow students to better adapt to university environments and persist even in the presence of difficulties. The sample consisted of 371 undergraduate students (60% female), of low socioeconomic level, enrolled in public universities in the Caribbean region of Colombia. The methodological approach was based on a cluster analysis, in which, using the hierarchical agglomerative method, groups were extracted according to their similar characteristics of resilience in 12 dimensions assessed by the SV-RES scale and subsequent analyses of variance reported how each style was associated with engagement, and with a particular constitution of personal support networks, assessed respectively with the UWES-S scale, and from a square matrix of reticular data on the social networks of each participant. The results showed four profiles of students, characterized by: a) low resilience, high engagement, and strong support networks; b) resilience with low engagement, and dispersed support networks; c) resilience with high autonomy, intermediate levels of engagement, and weak support networks; and d) resilience, high engagement, and strong social support networks.

The academic field has been divided into each specialized field. The modern communication tools (internet, and database), on the other hand, promote multidisciplinary academic fields. The multidisciplinary field is not just a collection of fields, but a fusion among fields. Many problems in global society cannot be solved by a single disciplinarian. The global society is waiting for a multi-disciplinarian. For students, it is not easy to find the way to learn a multidisciplinary field: the curriculum, the textbook, the learning team, and the teacher (the adviser). "Biomedical Engineering" is one of the multidisciplinary fields. It has many related fields: biology, medicine, informatics, and engineering. The topic includes case studies related to COVID-19 (education for the undergraduate and the graduate courses) based on the author's experiences: from cross cultural to symbiosis.

Information is overflowing due to the progress of networks. Individuals are required to have the ability to sort huge information. How do you use information for your personal behavior? Following social campaign can lead to inconsistencies in individual behavior. The field of biomedical engineering is not limited to the fusion of medicine and engineering, but is a complex field including various fields: biology, informatics, etc. In the courses, students have the opportunity to learn pandemic-related techniques: air purification techniques (clean room), sterilization techniques (cell culture). Multi-disciplinary fields supply education to understand complex issues. They improve communication skills of students on global problems.

In this paper, we present the life and the achievements of American blind mathematician Abraham Nemeth (1918-2013), with the main focus on his extraordinary contribution to mathematical culture. His inventions opened the doors of mathematics to blind and heavily visually impaired people and are still the starting point for many advanced assistive technologies. The paper is structured as follows: after a brief introduction on mathematics and blindness in Section 1, Section 2 explores the biography of Abraham Nemeth, highlighting some points of interest for the development of his scientific career. In Sections 3 and 4 we present his two most remarkable achievements; the inventions of the Nemeth Braille Code and of MathSpeak respectively. Finally, we draw some conclusions in Section 5.

We have engaged in a significant restructuring of our computer science curriculum. This paper describes the process that we followed and illustrates the generalizable approach through a case study. We also demonstrate that the revision had several positive outcomes that went beyond our expectations. The case study describes a computer science computer program revision that sets goals to ensure the program's long-term viability, content alignment with labor market expectations, reasonable alignment with accreditation standards, and student success, diversity, and retention. The study demonstrated an increased ability for students to personalize their educational experience, leading to a clearly identifiable program and an improved value proposition. It also documents how the process resulted in creating a one-credit orientation seminar that contributes to increased student retention and enhances diversity in the major.

Dielectrophoresis has been tried to be applied to cell sorting technology in previous studies. In the present study, the movement of mouse myoblast cells flowing through the perpendicular electric field in a micro- channel has been analyzed in vitro. A pair of asymmetric surface electrodes of titanium was manufactured by the photolithography technique: a triangular electrode with the tip angle of 0.35 rad, and a rectangular electrode with the flat edge as the reference. The cyclic alternating electric current of the square wave with the period of 0.3 μs was introduced between the surface electrodes to induce the asymmetric electric field perpendicular to the main flow direction. The suspension of cells (C2C12: mouse myoblast cell line) was injected into the flow channel, and the flow rate was controlled by the pressure head between the inlet and outlet. The velocity of each cell related to the shape and alignment is measured. Experimental results show that the velocity change near the tip of the electrode is lower for a highly elongated cell. The maximum movement perpendicular to the main flow direction occurs when the major axis is perpendicular to the main flow direction.

A very important branch of IoT is ad-hoc mobile networks, where sensor networks move in a given space and have been created to operate without a specialized infrastructure. However, there is a branch of this technology that involves unmanned vehicles, and can be divided into two sub-branches: Vehicle Ad-hoc Networks and Flying Vehicle Ad-hoc Networks. There, end node security becomes paramount. This paper´s objective proposes detection time as a metric to measure the impact that a Denial-of-Service, (DoS), attack could have, even with an Intrusion Detection System, (IDS), operating on the network. Furthermore, the importance of developing an IDS that revolves around false positives, and how this could affect the entire network system is emphasized. Likewise, a model is proposed and described to detect DoS attacks from the security approach of the end node, whereas, instead of starting to track the attack, the supposed node being attacked is secured, protecting it without interrupting its operations and subsequently confirming the attack to be identified. In the future, we intend to explain the correlation between time detection and security.

Problem driven approach with customer engagement is argued to be one of the principal strategies of innovation opportunity identification. This paper analyzes the findings of a two-year-long research project conducted in Riga Technical University with the data collection from different countries of Europe, Asia and America (n=1050) to explore whether there are principal differences in the perception of innovation opportunities by males and females. The qualitative content analysis of the respondents' texts revealed three groups of problems shared by males and females: 1) universal problems which are perceived similarly by both genders, 2) problems, which are perceived by males more, and 3) problems, which are perceived by females more. So, innovation opportunity identification is gender related.
