A novel 3D Zn-based coordination polymer (NH 2 -LCU-110 , LCU names Liaocheng University) with the formula [Zn(L1)(bpea) n (H 2 L1 ​= ​2-aminoterephthalic acid, bpea ​= ​1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane), was hydrothermally synthesized from a flexible nitrogen-containing carboxylic acid ligand with various coordination modes as main ligands and nitrogen-containing auxiliary ligand with different structures. NH 2 -LCU-110 demonstrates an interesting 5-fold interpenetrating diamond structure. Luminescence measurements reveal that this complex has obvious emission enhancement and quenching towards Al3+ and Cu2+, respectively. The mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) incorporating NH 2 -LCU-110 and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as well as simple test papers were both prepared for potential application. The MMMs can quickly detect Al3+ and Cu2+ and the original emission could be regenerated by lifting from the analytical solutions, demonstrating its fast response and good selectivity. The sensing mechanism was investigated in details by various measurements and compared with isostructural complex LCU-110 without –NH 2 groups. All observations indicate that introduction of Lewis basic –NH 2 groups can enhance the intermolecular interactions between the frameworks of coordination polymers and sensing analytes (Al3+ and Cu2+). A novel multifunctional coordination polymer {[Zn(HCOO) (bcbpy)Cl]·H 2 O} n (1) with multiple colour-changing has been synthesized from Zn(NO 3) 2 ·6H 2 O, and viologen ligand 1,1′-bis-((3-carboxylatobenzyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium) dichloride (H 2 bcbpy·2Cl). In coordination polymer (CP) 1 , bcbpy ligands bridge Zn2+ cations to form a 1D wave-like chain. CP 1 exhibited photochromic properties under xenon lamp and blue light irradiation while obtaining a structurally stable light product 1T. CP 1 thermochromic properties can also be observed during heating. 1 showed photo-controlled fluorescence properties during color rendering and decolorization, and its properties were studied. Interestingly, CP 1 can be deposited in filter paper by coating it with a solution of H 2 O. The filter paper can be used as a printing medium without ink. Constructing nanoscale coordination polymers (CPs) with different micro- or nanoscale morphologies and sizes is crucial for the functionalization of CPs-based heterogeneous catalysts. Herein, surfactant polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), surface-supported frameworks (filter paper or Ni foam), and Co-based CPs (1), [Co 2 (pdpa)(py) 4 (H 2 O)] n (H 4 pdpa ​= ​5,5'-(pentane-1,2-diyl)-bis(oxy)diisophthalic; py ​= ​pyridine)) were employed to develop highly ordered micro- or nanoscale CPs, achieving microscale 1a (without surface-supported framework) and nanoscale 1b-c (filter paper and Ni foam as surface-supported frameworks for 1b and 1c , respectively). Furthermore, the catalytic performance of nanoscale 1c with spheric particles for the tandem conversion reactions of aromatic nitriles and diamines into imidazoline or tetrahydropyrimidine frameworks was much more prominent than that of large scale 1 , microscale 1a , and nanoscale 1b because of the easily accessible catalytic active sites in the nanoscale spheric particles, which offered a functionalizable platform for the tandem reactions by minimizing the diffusion distance but did little for their activity. By introducing surfactant and surface-supported frameworks, different morphologies and particle sizes of Co-based CPs with micro- or nanoscale 1a-c were constructed and were used as efficient heterogeneous catalysts to execute tandem conversion reactions. Multistimuli responsive materials based on the viologen coordination polymers have attracted much interest in the past few years due to the increasing demand for smart materials. In this paper, based on a viologen ligand 1-(3-carboxybenzyl)- 4,4′-bipyridinium chloride (Hcbbpy) and zinc(II) ion, a new crystalline complex, namely, {[Zn(cbbpy)Cl 2 ]·H 2 O} n (1) has been designed and synthesized. In complex 1 , every cbbpy ligand as a bridge links two Zn2+ ions via carboxylate O atom and pyridine N atom to extend to a 1D zigzag chain. The 1D chains are extended to 3D supramolecular structure through π···π stacking and hydrogen bonding. More importantly, 1 exhibits fast photochromic behaviors in response to UV and X-ray due to the formation of viologen radicals. Complex 1 also shows photo-modulated luminescence property in the solid state. Single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation provides a good platform for obtaining new functional coordination polymers. In this study, we demonstrate a violent and rapid structural transformation between two d10 coordination polymers (CPs). The complex 1 [Zn(3,5-thbzc) 2 (C 2 H 6 O) 2 ] transformed into the complex 2 {[Zn(3,5-thbzc) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·C 3 H 7 NO·2H 2 O} (where t = tbutyl, hbzc− = 2-Hydroxybenzoato) triggered by deionized water under standard temperature and pressure conditions in solid state. The transformation reaction was confirmed using single-crystal XRD, PXRD and SEM. The results showed that complex 1 adopts a bidentate chelate six-coordination mode, and complex 2 adopts a monodentate four-coordination mode. SEM clearly showed that complex 2 was in the form of random nanowire clusters, suggesting that their transformation required degradation of the entire crystal structure. UV–Vis–NIR spectra were used to calculate the band gaps of complexes 1 and 2 , which demonstrated wide-bandgap semiconductor-like materials with ∼3.2 eV band gap widths. The results of dielectric studies of complex 1 revealed that it possessed a medium dielectric constant (κ = 6.08 at 1 kHz), while complex 2 displayed an even higher dielectric constant (κ = 7.97 at 1 kHz) at room temperature. Interestingly, parent complex 1 exhibited a small ladder-like dielectric anomaly at 188 °C, while progeny complex 2 did not. This paper describes a new strategy for preparing adjustable functional dielectric materials. Through solid-state transformation triggered by deionized water, the parent bidentate six-coordination complex 1 generates the progeny monodentate four-coordination complex 2. Abstract This paper explains the crystal structure analysis of Ag(I) coordination polymers based on 4-Amino-3-halobenzonitrile ligands. Three coordination polymers of general formula [Ag(L x)]NO 3 , where X = Cl(1), I(3) and [Ag 2 (L x)][NO 3 ] 2 , where X = Br(2), were synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The effect of changing the single halogen atom of 4-Amino-3-halobenzonitrile on the crystal packing of a series of Ag(I) coordination polymers was studied. Our results revealed that N-H···O hydrogen bonds play important role in the crystal packing. Nanoparticles of these coordination polymers were also synthesized by ultrasonic irradiation of (1) , (2) and (3) , and characterized using different analytical techniques. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used in filed of electrochemistry. Compared with traditional inorganic porous materials, the polyvalent pyridinecarboxylic acid ligands have many advantages which contains more active sites, flexible coordination mode, adjustable structure. Therefore, it becomes good choice for constructing MOFs materials with excellent performance. In this paper, a novel MOF was synthesized by pyridine polycarboxylic acid ligand and CoCl 2 ·6H 2 O using solvothermal method. The physicochemical properties were characterized by FT-IR, powder diffraction and thermogravimetry. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveal that MOF-1 crystallizes in monoclinic system with P 2 1 / C space group. The central Co2+ ions have a dual core structure with 5 and 6 coordination, respectively. The carboxyl groups show two kinds of coordination modes μ 2 : η1: η1 and μ 2 : η1: η2, and the pyridine N atoms also coordinate to form a three-dimensional network structure. Electrochemical experiments show that MOF-1 has a lower overpotential (339.4 mV) and Tafel slope (65.3 mV·dec−1) with higher ECSA and better OER kinetics. A large number of exposed active sites indicate that the MOF has higher potential as catalyst for oxygen evolution reaction. Urease may rapidly hydrolyze urea, causing a significant amount of ammonia to be released and decreasing the efficacy of urea fertilizers. However, urease inhibitors (UIs) can inhibit the interaction between urease and urea so that ammonium nitrogen can be absorbed by crops for a long time. In this paper, we developed and fabricated two Cu-based coordination polymers (Cu-CPs) to function as UIs by combining two aromatic carboxylic acids and a bis-pyridine-bis-amide ligand, which demonstrate outstanding urease inhibitory efficacy. Cu-CP-1 exhibits a pronounced inhibitory effect on the inhibitory activity of jack bean urease while the semi-inhibitory concentration (IC 50) value was 0.74 ± 0.01 μM, whereas the IC 50 value of Cu-CP-2 was 4.77 ± 0.51 μM. Furthermore, inhibitory activity against urease, kinetic, molecular docking, and comparisons of the title Cu-CPs and other complex-based materials have been comprehensively investigated. More importantly, the oxygen atoms of μ 2 -OH and –COO play important roles in urease inhibition activity. The structure–function relationship were further discussed which indicates that Cu-CPs can be used as a kind of UIs. By using different O-donor second auxiliary ligands, we have designed and synthesized two Cu-based CPs to operate as urease inhibitors which show excellent urease inhibitory activity. To search for more high-performance crystalline proton conducting materials and to accelerate the related research progress, in this paper, a one-dimensional coordination polymer (CP), [Co(BBOT) 2 (H 2 O) 3 ·2H 2 O] n (1) (H 2 BBOT = N-benzoyl-N′-(4-benzoxy)thiourea) was firstly prepared by solvent volatilization approach. Subsequently, the thermal, H 2 O and chemical stabilities of the CP were tested and its high structural stability was confirmed. Furthermore, in 1 , a stable solid three-dimensional framework can be constructed by intermolecular H-bonds and stacking interactions between phenyl units. Then, utilizing the AC impedance determination, the dependence of the proton conductivity of this CP on temperature and humidity in the water vapor environment was explored and the positive correlation was verified. Excitingly, the optimized proton conductivity of this compound under specific test conditions (100 °C/98 % relative humidity) can be as high as 10−4 S/cm, being in the forefront of similar crystalline solid materials. Finally, according to the value of activation energy and the characteristics of crystal structure, we speculate on the proton conduction mechanism. Proton conductivity of a CP under variable humidity and temperatures was explored. Its highest proton conductivity can attain up to 10−4 S/cm, and its proton-conduction mechanism was speculated. The coordination diversity of the H 5 L ligand gives rise to two distinct coordination modes in 1 – 2 , which contributes to the MOFs with multifarious structures. Complex 1 exhibits a 3D 5-connected topology, and Cd(Ⅱ) metal ions of 1 show three different coordination geometries. 2 displays a 3D (2,3,4,7)-connected net on the basis of penta-nuclear [Pb 5 (μ 1 -COO) 5 (μ 2 -COO) 5 ] clusters, as well the structure of complex 2 contains specific 1D Pb– O –Pb chains. A room temperature, 1 – 2 shows eminent solid-state luminescence properties and the maximum emission peaks are ∼416 ​nm & ∼429 ​nm respectively. Abstract Four new coordination polymers, namely, [Zn 2 (L) 2 (1,3-bdc)(H 2 O) 2 ] n (1) , [Cd 2 L 2 (Cl) 2 ] n ·0.5nH 2 O (2) , [Cd 2 L 2 (adip)] n ·2nH 2 O (3) , and [CdLCl] n (4) were solvothermally synthesized by reaction of Zn(NO 3) 2 ·6H 2 O, CdCl 2 ·H 2 O with an asymmetrical rigid N-heterocyclic carboxylatic acid (HL), where HL = 1-(4-carboxylphenyl)-3-(prazin-2-yl)-1H-1,2,4-triazole, 1,3-bdc = benzene- 1,3-dicarboxylic acid, H 2 adip = adipic acid, H 2 glu = glutaric acid. Compound 1 is a 1D ladder chain. Compound 2 is a (3,6)-connected network with the Point symbol of (42·6) 2 (44·62·88·10). Compound 3 displays a intriguing (3,3,4,4)-connected topological net with the Point symbol of (4·64·8)(4·72)(42·6·72·9)(42·6). Compound 4 presents a new (3,5)-connected topological net with the Point symbol of (3·4·5)(32·4·5·62·74). In addition, the thermal stabilities and photoluminescence properties of these compounds were also studied. Dramatically, compound 3 shows the high selectivity and sensitivity for Fe3+ cation via a luminescence quenching effect. Two water-stable Cd(II)-MOFs, [CdL 0.5 (H 2 O)] (1) and {[Cd 3 (H 2 L)(dtb) 2 (H 2 O)]·3H 2 O} n (2) [H 4 L ​= ​1,1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl)bis (1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid); H 2 dtb ​= ​1,4-di (1H-tetrazol-5-yl)benzene) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, TG, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Complex 1 exhibits a 3D 6-connected framework based on L4− ligands μ 6 -linking [Cd 2 O 2 ] unit, and complex 2 possesses a 3D (3,8)-connected porous framework built by H 2 L2− and dtb2− ligands bridging [Cd 3 O 2 ] units. The luminescence properties were investigated, showing that 1 and 2 can display high sensitivity and selectivity for detecting Fe3+, Cr(VI) and MnO 4 − ions in aqueous solutions via luminescence quenching effects. In this paper, two isostructural Co/Ni-based coordination polymers [Co(Htzbt)(bpy)] n (1) and [Ni(Htzbt)(bpy)] n (2) have been synthesized by solvothermal method using 2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (H 3 tzbt) and 4,4′-Bipyridine (bpy) as mixed ligands. The two compounds exhibited three dimensional (3D) pillared-layer structure and relative high water-stability. Interestingly, through rationally selection of functional ligand and metal ions, isolated N sites and carboxylic acid sites as well as unsaturated metal sites were combined in the structure of the final compounds. Benefit from these multiple active centers in the framework, the as-synthesized compounds exhibit enhanced catalytic activity in both cycloaddition of CO 2 with epoxides and hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol. In particular, compound 1 showed superior catalytic performance under mild conditions. Additionally, 1 could maintain relative high efficiency for at least four cycles, exhibiting potential application in practical catalysis. In this paper, two isostructural 3D pillared-layer Co/Ni-based coordination polymers, namely [M(Htzbt)(bpy)] n (M ​= ​Co2+, 1 ; M ​= ​Ni2+, 2) have been synthesized, which show good catalytic activity in both cycloaddition of CO 2 with epoxides and hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, due to the multiple active sites inside their structures. In this paper, we reported the fabrication of Co-embedded nitrogen-doped carbon nanotube (Co-NCNT) by using Co-melamine coordination polymer (CP) as precursor. The sample was well characterized via SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS and BET methods. The Co-NCNT shows excellent and stable catalytic performance for OER. The overpotential of Co-NCNT at 10 mA cm -2 is 370 mV (vs RHE). The current density of Co-NCNT could reach 100 mA cm -2 at overpotential of 520 mV, which showed much better performance than RuO 2 , while the largest current density of RuO 2 could reach is only 44 mA cm -2 . The Tafel slope of Co-NCNT is 56 mV dec -1 , which is smaller than that of commercial RuO 2 (58 mV dec -1 ). The results indicate that metal-melamine based CPs or MOFs can be promising precursors for the preparation of efficient metal-embedded nitrogen-doped carbon materials for electrocatalysis. In this paper, two novel 1D uranyl coordination polymers, [(UO 2)(HPDTC)(H 2 O)]Cl (1) and [(UO 2)(DPA)(H 2 O) (2) based on pyridine acid have been synthesized using hydrothermal method. The structure was obtained with the help of a Single Crystal X-ray diffraction meter and further characterized by IR, UV–vis, TG and others. The compounds show good luminescence properties and the uranium center exhibits the same pentagonal bipyramid coordination geometry among the compounds. Their electrochemical properties have been investigated through Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Galvanostatic Charge/Discharge (GCD). It reveals the counterion ions in compound 1 improve the electrical properties as the capacity is 56.94 ​F ​g−1. Two novel 1D uranyl coordination polymers based on pyridine acids have been synthesized using the hydrothermal method and further characterized by IR, UV–vis, TG and others. A new XRD experiment and crystal structure refinement was performed for the earlier published compound in the paper “Heterobimetallic coordination polymers involving 3d metal complexes and heavier transition metals cyanometallates” by Peresypkina et al. (2015) [1]. A choice of a crystal cell taking in consideration the superstructural reflections allowed to obtain more reliable data about the symmetry and bond distances in the heterometallic 2D framework {[Ni(cyclam)] 2 [ReO(OH) 0.5 (MeOH) 0.5 (CN) 4 ]} 2.5+ . The synthesis of crystalline homochiral MOF materials is very important for their potential application in enantioselective processes and asymmetric catalysis. In this paper, four novel zinc based chiral boron imidazolate frameworks (BIFs), Zn 2 [BH(2-eim) 3 ](BA) 2 (OH) (BIF-132-BA , 2-eim ​= ​2-ethylimidazolate, BA ​= ​benzoate), Zn[HBH(2-ipim) 3 ](OHBA)(Ac) (BIF-133-OHBA , 2-ipim ​= ​2-isopropylimidazolate, OHBA ​= ​ o -hydroxybenzoate, Ac ​= ​acetate), Zn[HBH(2-ipim) 3 ](PHBA)(Ac) (BIF-133-PHBA , PHBA ​= ​ p -hydroxybenzoate), and Zn[HBH(2-ipim) 3 ](DHBA)(Ac) (BIF-133-DHBA , DHBA ​= ​2,4-dihydroxybenzoate) were prepared via solvothermal synthesis. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction demonstrated that the existence of hydrogen bonds between adjacent chains results in two different structure features of BIF-131 : a chiral ladder-like 1D chain (BIF-133-OHBA) and two supramolecular 2D layers (BIF-133-PHBA and BIF-133-DHBA). Then, the optical activities of as-synthesied crystals were preliminarily studied by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy. In addition, because they crystallized in noncentrosymmetric space groups, the powder second-harmonic generation (SHG) measurements were carried out and the SHG response of BIF-133-PHBA was almost comparable to potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP). Abstract: One new compound, [Ag(p-bix)]3[Ag(Hbtc)2]·2H2O (H3btc=1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylate, p-bix=1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, PXRD, luminescent analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. X-ray structural analysis revealed that 0-D unit [Ag(Hbtc)2]3− and two kinds of 1-D linear chain [Ag(p-bix)] ∞ +, can be found within the crystal structure. The combination of 0-D [Ag(Hbtc)2]3− unit and 1-D undulated chain [Ag1(p 1-bix)] ∞ + through weak Ag–O bond gave rise to 2-D anionic supramolecular doublelayer. Then the grids of the 2-D layer are threaded by 1-D linear cationic chain [Ag2(p 2-bix)] ∞ + to generate entangled 3-D architecture with unusual poly(pseudo-rotaxane)-type arrangements. Abstract: Two new energetic compounds, [M(BTE)(H2O)5] n (M=Sr(1), Ba(2)) [H2BTE=1,2-bis(tetrazol-5-yl)ethane], have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that they are isomorphous and exhibit 2D (4,4) net framework, generated by 4-connected Sr2(H2O)10/Ba2(H2O)10 SBUs linked up by two independent binding modes of H2BTE, and the resulting 2D structure is interconnected by hydrogen-bond and strong face to face π–π stacking interactions between two tetrazole rings to lead to a 3D supramolecular architecture. DSC measurements show that they have significant catalytic effects on thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate. Moreover, the photoluminescence properties, thermogravimetric analyses, and flame colors of the as-prepared compounds are also investigated in this paper. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In this paper, a zinc(II)-based coordination polymer, Zn 2 [(C 6 H 8 (COOH) 2 ] 2 (1) [(C 6 H 8 (COOH) 2 ​= ​1,2-cyclopentanedicarboxylic acid, CPDA)], was successfully synthesized by solvothermal method. Thereafter, 1 was characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and infrared spectrum techniques. In the hypoglycemic experiment, the results showed that 1 could effectively increase the glucose uptake in insulin resistance (IR)-type HepG2 cells. Besides, 1 displayed favorable antidiabetic activity in contrast to the Zinc nitrate and the CPDA ligand. The mechanism of 1 to alleviate insulin resistance might be related to the reduction of the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and the regulation of the ROS/JNK/AKT signaling pathway. Zn 2 (CPDA) 2 alleviated the insulin resistance by reducing of the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and the regulation of the ROS/JNK/AKT signaling pathway. The three multi-dimensional coordination polymers, [Mn 2 (μ 4 -dttpa)(μ 6 -dttpa)(H 2 O) 2 ] n (1), {[Co(μ 4 -dttpa)(H 2 O) 2 ]·2H 2 O} n (2), and {[Zn 3 (μ 4 -dttpa) 2 (μ 2 -dttpa)(phen) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·2H 2 O} n (3) (H 2 dttpa ​= ​2,5-di(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)terephthalic acid; phen ​= ​1,10- phenanthroline), are successfully synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR spectra, elemental analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. Structurally, complex 1 is a three-dimensional structure with the 3-nodal Schläfli point symbol of {4·63·82} 2 {42·62·82}{62·84}. Complex 2 displays a two-dimensional network with a 6-connected uninodal net. With the point symbol of {4·62} 2 ·{43·63} 2 ·{44·62}{6}, complex 3 shows the two-dimensional stacking pattern. Temperature-dependent magnetic data of complexes 1 and 2 indicate antiferromagnetic behaviors between adjacent metal ions from 2 ​K to 300 ​K. Further magnetic studies show that the best fitting parameters of comple× 1 are obtained using the dinuclear Mn(II) model. From 50K to 300K, complex 2 displays antiferromagnetism over its mononuclear analogue with the zero-field splitting parameter (|D| ​= ​35.2 ​cm−1). The luminescent intensity of complex 3 is much stronger than that of free ligand (H 2 dttpa) and auxiliary ligand (phen). Moreover, the photoluminescence mechanism of complex 3 has been analyzed by theoretical calculation at ωB97XD/6–311++g(2d,p) level with DFT and TDDFT, which reveals that luminescence emission of 3 is attributed to the ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (π∗ phen -π dttpa2-). Compared with the free ligand, the enhancement of the luminescent intensity of compound 3 might occur due to the construction of Zn(II) ion, dttpa2− and phen increases the efficiency of charge transfer between LUMO and HOMO in the solid state. Abstract: In this paper, treatment of N-ethyl-benzo[f]quinolium (ebq) iodide and CuI with excess KI afforded an unusual coordination polymer [(ebq)2(Cu3I4)(CuI2)] n (1). 1 crystallizes in tetragonal system, space group P4(2)bc with cell parameters of , , , , , and . A highly interesting feature of 1 is its presence of mixed types of chains [ and chain] in one crystal lattice based on supramolecular self-assembly directed by cations. The infinite chains and in 1 could be described as the edge-sharing arrangement of CuI4 tetrahedron. Furthermore, IR, EA, UV–Vis, thermal analysis and optical limiting measurements were adopted to characterize polymer 1. Molecule-based room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials have attracted considerable attention owing to their extensive applications in the optoelectronic and biological field. In this paper, two isostructural coordination polymers [Zn 3 (TIB) 2 X 6 ] (X ​= ​Cl, 1-Cl ; X ​= ​Br, 1-Br) have been synthesised and characterized by the assemble of triangular D-A-D ligand 1,3,5-tri(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene (TIB) and ZnX 2 salts. The incorporation of halogen atoms play significant role in the formation of abundant C-H···X hydrogen-bonding interactions and dense structures, enable high thermal stability of the two complexes. 1-Br shows phosphorescence lifetime three order of magnitude longer than that of 1-Cl , and obviously phosphorescence emission recognized by naked eyes. The theory calculations reveal complete separation of molecular orbitals between halogen atoms and TIB ligand. Photoelectron response performance have also been studied. This work provides an efficient way to achieve long-last RTP by the incorporation of metal-bromide units in the coordination polymers. One-pot three-component Arbuzov-type reaction, involving anhydrous cadmium acetate, dimethyl sulfite, and tetraethylammonium iodide, has produced the cadmate salt, [Et 4 N] 2 [Cd(OMs) 4 ] (1) revealing weakly-coordinating methanesulfonate (OMs) ligands inside the metal-coordination sphere. The 'ate' salt 1 was found useful as a precursor in the preparation of coordination polymers with compositions, [Cd(OMs) 2 (MeOH)] n (2) and [Cd(OMs) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] n (3), when subjected to crystallization in a methanol/chloroform mixture, in dry and ambient conditions, respectively. Compounds 1–3 were characterized by spectroscopic [1H, 13C NMR, FT-IR] techniques, and elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, while the structural attributes of 2 and 3 were investigated using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The composition of 1 was further scrutinized by electrospray-ionization mass-spectrometry (ESI-MS). The crystal structure of 2 exhibits formation of a two-dimensional (2-D) layer facilitated by the bidentate (μ 2) and tridentate (μ 3) modes of coordination of sulfonate ligands around the metal center. The structure of 3 demonstrates the formation of 1-D linear chains, comprising of eight-membered cyclic [−Cd–O–S–O−] rings, owing to the bridging bidentate (μ 2) mode of coordination of the sulfonate ligands. The involvement of hydrogen-bond interactions in 2 and 3 further perpetuates the assemblies into 2-D and 3-D supramolecular coordination polymers, respectively. This paper reports noticeable features such as, (a) cadmate dianion was afforded by the in situ generation of methanesulfonate ligands and subsequent complexation to the Cd(II) atom; (b) ability of alkanesulfonate ligand to display flexible coordinating behaviour [(μ 2 and uncommon (μ 3)] and prolific H-bond acceptor; (c) competitive ligation between strong coordinating solvents (MeOH and H 2 O) and weakly-coordinating methanesulfonate ligands; (d) effect of types and number of solvent molecules around the metal center with their participation in non-covalent interactions in bringing variation in the structural outcome; (e) the values of distances of Cd–O bonds in 1 and 2 fall in the range of 2.24 Å to 2.29 Å, suggesting the presence of direct metal-sulfonate interactions. The dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT-D) and Bader's quantum theory of atoms in molecule (QTAIM) (primary and secondary) studies explored the structures, electronics, and non-covalent interactions of compounds 2 and 3. Additionally, among different involved non-covalent interactions, Hirshfeld surface analysis emphasized the presence of O⋯H/H⋯O contacts as the dominant intermolecular non-covalent interactions as the consolidating factor in crystal packing, in both compounds. Structural variations in Cd(II) coordination polymers based on weakly-coordinating methanesulfonate ligand are tuned by the combined effect of solvents, ligand coordination modes, and non-covalent interactions.
