Method: This descriptive qualitative study was embedded in two separate randomized controlled trials evaluating the effectiveness of 1‐day CBT‐based workshops for PPD delivered in‐person or online. Responses were provided by 94 in‐person and 95 online participants about their experiences. Content analysis was used to code and categorize the data. Results: Participants appreciated learning skills to improve PPD symptoms and joining a community of individuals with shared experiences. Integrating practical coping techniques after the workshop was reported to be most useful, though some wanted additional post‐workshop support. Online participants identified additional barriers to workshop engagement. Discussion: Participants who attended either workshop found them to be valuable and effective. Participants valued psychoeducation, social connections and applying practical CBT techniques. Implications for Practice: One‐day CBT‐based workshops may be an accessible treatment option for individuals with PPD, providing new skills and social support, though some prefer to receive additional post‐workshop support. Aim: This study investigated diabetes self‐care activities and the factors associated with these activities in people diagnosed with SMI in a hospital setting. Methods: A cross‐sectional correlational study was conducted among 126 people diagnosed with comorbid SMI and T2DM in Taipei, Taiwan, between October 2020 and April 2021. Data were collected using self‐report questionnaires and a chart review. Three‐step hierarchical multiple regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with diabetes self‐care behaviours. Results: Diabetes self‐care behaviours in people diagnosed with SMI were suboptimal overall. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that age (β = 0.18, p =.037) and self‐efficacy (β = 0.27, p =.004) significantly associated with diabetes self‐care behaviours. Discussion: Self‐efficacy is the strongest predictor of self‐care behaviours among people diagnosed with comorbid SMI and T2DM. Implications for Practice: Mental health professionals should focus on enhancing confidence in managing comorbid diabetes in people diagnosed with comorbid SMI, especially young people and those with newly diagnosed T2DM. Method: Scale items were derived from previous studies and adjusted based on cognitive interviews with five CAMHN experts. In total, 505 nurses in CAMHN from 29 hospitals in Japan participated in the self‐administered survey. The scale's construct validity, criterion‐related validity, internal consistency and test–retest reliability were assessed. Results: A two‐factor (direct care for children and their family members and approach to the care environment) scale was constructed. A secondary structural model showed that a two‐factor model fits best. The total score was significantly and positively correlated with excellence in nursing practice, amount of clinical experience and mental status. Discussion: Storytelling‐based interventions in school settings with participatory approaches using cultural stories, and positive psychology‐based interventions were effective and feasible. Co‐produced throughout, people with lived experience of mental health services and nurses wishing to improve their research experience undertook interviews following training. Data were analysed thematically. Findings: Care radically changed from in‐person to large phone or video contact. This reportedly altered therapeutic relationship building and raised questions about whether recovery‐focused care was possible. Hybrid working was viewed as helpful but raised challenges for nurse wellbeing. Discussion: Changes to care delivery challenged the fundamentals of recovery‐focused interventions and therapeutic relationships. Service users and nurses well‐being consequently suffered. The impact of the pandemic on people with existing mental health conditions was poorly acknowledged in the media. Many CALD communities in Victoria may have encountered complicated migration journeys and complex life stressors during their initial settlement, leading to adverse mental health concerns. While the MH policies and services take cultural diversity into account, there needs to be more implementation of those components of MH policies that relate to the particular needs of various CALD communities in Victoria. Even though mental health services prevent and address mental health issues, many barriers can impair CALD community access and utilisation of mental health services. Method: A qualitative descriptive design was used to collect and analyse the perspectives of 21 participants in Victoria, using telephone interviews, followed by thematic analysis. Results: The themes and sub‐themes identified were: Settling issues; Perceptions of understanding of mental health issues (help‐seeking attitudes toward mental health issues; the need for CALD community education); perceived barriers to accessing and utilising mental health services in Victoria (socio‐cultural and language barriers; stigma, labelling and discrimination; knowledge and experience of accessing health facilities); experience with mental health services and professionals. Discussion: Community participation, mental health professional education and robust research regarding the mental health needs of CALD people are some of the recommended strategies to improve access and utilisation of mental health services in Victoria. What is known on the subject?: Reminiscence therapy is a common psychosocial intervention in mental health nursing.Numerous secondary studies have explored the effects of reminiscence therapy interventions in older adults, and while the effects are significant, conflicting results remain. What this paper adds to existing knowledge?: To date, research on reminiscence therapy has examined different disorders in isolation from one another.By illustrating the evidence gaps between studies, this paper highlights the need for a new evidence‐based summary overview of reminiscence therapy research.The results suggest that reminiscence therapy can be beneficial to the improvement of mental health and quality of life for older people.However, we found that the secondary studies were not of high quality and that further high‐quality literature supporting the evidence is still needed. Introduction: Reminiscence therapy is an alternative to pharmaceutical intervention provided during long‐term care, especially for older people with mental and psychological problems. However, the effects of reminiscence therapy remain inconclusive. Aim: The present study aimed to systematically identify, synthesize and describe the research evidence and quality of systematic reviews (SRs) related to reminiscence interventions for older people through an evidence‐mapping approach. Methods: Commonly used English and Chinese databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, CNKI, WANFANG, VIP and SinoMed, were searched from inception till 31 March 2022. The study type was restricted to SRs with or without meta‐analysis. The methodological quality of the included SRs was assessed by A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR‐2). The Microsoft Excel 2019 tool was used for data extraction and coding, and bubble charts were used to synthesize information on the study population, intervention category, original study sample size and classification of findings. Results: A total of 28 SRs were enrolled, including 514 original studies, 91.4% of which were randomized controlled trials. The main participants of the study were depressed older people (7 publications), older people with dementia (10 publications) and ordinary older people (8 publications). The findings of 26 (92.8%) publications were categorized as either "beneficial" or "potentially beneficial." The primary outcome indicators of the effectiveness of the reminiscence intervention for older people are mental and psychological problems (especially depressive symptoms and cognitive functioning), quality of life and categories of positive psychology (e.g., life satisfaction, happiness and self‐esteem). The main factors influencing the intervention effect were the intervention period, residential setting, intervention format (group/individual) and intervention intensity. The intervention settings/contexts were mainly community and long‐term care facilities. However, the methodological quality of 27 (96.4%) of the SRs was scored as either "Low" or "Critically Low." Discussion: Reminiscence therapy has been used to study the mental health and quality of life of older people in various conditions, with significant results. However, due to the limited evidence included in the studies and the low methodological quality, there is still a need to focus on the issue of effectiveness and evidence gaps for different interventions in the field of recall in the future, in addition to efforts to improve the methodological quality and standardize the reporting process for the evaluation of reminiscence intervention systems. Implications for Practice: Reminiscence therapy may be considered a useful non‐pharmacological intervention for older people with mental and psychological problems. Results: Home environment (p <.001), self‐perceived quality of life (p =.015), well‐being index (p =.002) and SAS total score (p =.033) had a major impact on self‐management in patients diagnosed with anxiety disorders (n = 245). Discussion: Family disharmony, poor self‐perceived quality of life, high SAS scores and low levels of well‐being were significant influences on self‐management among people diagnosed with anxiety disorders. Methods: A descriptive cross‐sectional survey involving mixed methods. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics and free text by content analysis. Results: Participants included 57 police officers, 29 paramedics and 33 mental health professionals. Mental health staff felt adequately trained, but only 36% described good processes for accessing inter‐agency support. Police and ambulance staff felt undertrained and unprepared. Accessing mental health expertise was considered difficult by 89% of police and 62% of ambulance staff. Discussion: Frontline services struggle managing mental health‐related 911 emergencies. Current models are not working well. Miscommunication, dissatisfaction and distrust exist between police, ambulance and mental health services. Conclusion: The single‐agency frontline response may be detrimental to service users in crisis and under‐utilizes the skills of mental health staff. One hundred and forty‐two patients diagnosed with MDDR were recruited from the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology of the General Hospital of Northern Theater Command. Demographic information, social support, well‐being, self‐efficacy and psychological resilience were collected using self‐reported questionnaires. Results: The psychological resilience of MDDR patients was lower than that of the healthy Chinese adults in China. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that education, personal monthly income, social support, well‐being and self‐efficacy were associated with psychological resilience. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis further confirmed that social support, well‐being and self‐efficacy were associated with psychological resilience. Conclusion: The psychological resilience of MDDR patients was lower than that of the general population in China. Results: We identified two countervailing processes: (1) Entrenching—factors that sustain or increase racism: Predisposing, Precipitating, and Perpetuating and (2) Uprooting—factors that rectify or reduce racism: Preventing, Punctuating, and Prohibiting. We organized each of the elements into a '6P' model along a temporal sequence around sentinel racist events. For each of the six components we describe: Contributing Factors, Emotional Reactions, and Behavioural Responses as reported by participants. Method: A multiple case study methodology was used and situated within an interpretive paradigm. Data were gathered using semi‐structured interviews with 40 PSI‐trained MHNs. Findings: Three overarching themes developed from the analysis. These included (a) PSI‐trained MHNs' understanding and use of PSI; (b) facilitating factors supporting the use of PSI by PSI‐trained MHNs; and (c) obstacles limiting the use of PSI by PSI‐trained MHNs. Discussion: MHNs recognize that regular clinical supervision is required to increase their confidence, along with PSI guidelines for the offering of these skills across practice settings. MHNs also need work release to attend supplementary training on PSI so that they can do their job adequately. Aim: To investigate trauma symptoms and functional health of IDPs in Myanmar and identify the factors associated with their functional health according to the presence/absence of PTSS. Method: This cross‐sectional study included 201 IDPs who completed a questionnaire on functional health, PTSS, resilience, social support and hope. The analysis included descriptive statistics, t‐tests, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression with interaction analyses. Results: Over one‐third of the participants had PTSS, with low functional health scores. The greater the resilience, the better the functional health. The higher participants' PTSS, the poorer their functional health. There was a significant interaction between resilience and PTSS. Discussion: Tailored resilience‐building programs, as well as health policies and services, are needed to enhance IDPs' functional health and help them overcome PTSS. People who self‐harm exercised self‐reliance in response to "stay home" messaging, but some may have struggled without formal support. Online support served an important role in continuity of care during lockdown but could widen inequalities from limited resources and access. There is lack of understanding of these issues in early psychosis. Aims: To quantify CVD‐R in people diagnosed with early psychosis and profile their obesity prevalence, lifestyle behaviours and QOL. Secondary aim was to explore associations between lifestyle behaviours/treatment characteristics and CVD‐R/QOL. Method: Baseline data from 81 RCT participants were used to profile cardiometabolic health risks (QRISK®3, BMI and waist circumference). Participants self‐reported lifestyle behaviours and QOL. Relationships between modifiable treatment/lifestyle factors and QOL/CVD‐R were explored. Results: Participants' relative risk for CVD over 10 years was 1.93 times higher than healthy counterparts; 39% also had an obese BMI and physical QOL was poor. No significant associations were observed between CVD‐R or QOL with treatment characteristics and lifestyle factors. Discussion: Despite positive lifestyle behaviours, participants had elevated CVD‐R scores and poor physical health‐related QOL. Quantifying CVD‐R with QRISK®3 may highlight the need for health promotion interventions. Implications for practice: Mental health professionals should be aware that elevated CVD‐R exists in the context of relatively healthy lifestyle behaviours and utilise evidence‐based interventions to address these issues. Method: We investigated staff reports regarding the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on mental healthcare and mental health service users in the UK, using a mixed‐methods online survey. A total of 897 nurses across a range of inpatient and community settings participated. Discussion: Key themes within the data explore the following: new ways of working; remote working; risks of infection/infection control challenges; and the impact on service users. Methods: The 12‐item Korean POAS was obtained through forward–backward translation and cognitive debriefing. It was administered online to 319 nurses (mean age = 32.64 years; females = 96.2%), of which 206 completed it again after two weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis validated the 3‐factor structure as hypothesized in the original version. The intra‐class correlation coefficient was used to assess the test–retest reliability. Results: The originally hypothesized 3‐factor structure showed a good fit. The 3 dimensions: aggression as a dysfunctional or undesirable phenomenon, aggression as a functional or comprehensible phenomenon, and aggression as a protective measure had internal consistencies of 0.74, 0.86 and 0.90 and corresponding ICCs of 0.70, 0.86 and 0.90, respectively. This paper reports on data extracted from retrospective audits of chemical restraint practice. Results: Forty‐eight papers were included. The median prevalence of use of any restraint was 21.2% (25th% 8.0 to 75th% 36.3). Median prevalence of people who were chemically restrained, of all people restrained in any manner, was 43.1% (25th% 22.9% to 75th% 70.7%). Of all people admitted to facility(ies), the median prevalence of chemical restraint was 7.4% (25th% 2.7 to 75th% 17.6). There was no statistically significant difference in any prevalence measure considering healthcare setting or country. There was a significant decrease over the review period in the use of any restraint, including chemical restraint. Discussion and implications for practice: This is the first known comprehensive meta‐view of chemical restraint use worldwide, highlighting the need for standardized data collection to enable comparisons between healthcare settings and countries. Results: The results showed that meaning in life mediated the association between hopelessness and depression. Aim: We aimed to evaluate a PPI training programme across nine regional administrative units in a national mental health service. Methods: We conducted a participant exit survey, using the Student Assessment of Learning Gains (SALG) instrument. We analysed the survey responses using SPSS version 24 software and applied directed content analysis to the narrative comments provided in open‐ended questions. Results: A total of 54 participants returned the completed questionnaire, yielding a response rate of 60%. The overall mean SALG score yielded was 3.97 (SD 0.66; range 1–5), indicating that participants reported very good to excellent gains in their learning from the programme. Participants who offered narrative comments indicated an overall positive experience but suggested that all stakeholders should work together to co‐produce the training. Discussion: All the stakeholders in a PPI training initiative to support the engagement of service users, their families and carers in mental health should work together to achieve their desired outcome. This requires co‐production in the design, delivery and evaluation of the training initiative, and co‐production can impact at both individual and local levels. Implications for Practice: PPI training initiatives in mental health should retain a focus on understanding conflict resolution, committee effectiveness, interpersonal and facilitation skills. A survey was sent to 127 practice nurses with a response rate of 19% (n = 24). Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Results: Rates of metabolic monitoring were low in both services. Survey participants expressed positive views towards physical health monitoring and confidence in relating to mental health consumers. Rates of treatment of metabolic abnormalities were low, and communication between primary and secondary services was limited. Conclusion: Despite existence of guidelines and protocols, metabolic monitoring rates in both primary and secondary health services are low. Introduction: A large and rigorous body of research in the United States has demonstrated that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) populations are at an elevated risk for suicide. However, scant research aimed at understanding the rates and predictors for suicidality among Thai LGBT individuals exists. Aim: To examine rates and predictors of suicidality among Thai LGBT adults (N = 411). Method: Data collection was conducted via online and in‐person surveys. Guided by the Minority Stress Model, standardized measures of demographics, health‐related factors, general and minority‐specific stressors and suicidality were completed. Results: Thirty‐nine per cent of participants reported lifetime suicidal ideation, 19.0% past 12‐month suicidal ideation and 13.1% lifetime suicide attempts. Lifetime suicidal ideation was associated with higher levels of social discrimination, stress, loneliness and chronic disease (OR = 1.12, 1.16, 2.75, and 1.46, p ≤.05, R2 = 0.327). Past‐year suicidal ideation was associated with victimization, stress, loneliness and being a former smoker (OR = 1.52, 1.20, 2.34, and 4.89, p <.05, R2 = 0.345). Suicide attempts were associated with internalized homophobia, poverty, chronic disease, alcohol use and physical health (OR = 1.44, 1.06, 1.59, 1.45 and 0.95, p ≤ 0.05, R2 = 0.187). Discussion: General and minority‐specific stressors negatively impacted suicidality among LGBT participants. Implication for practice: Study findings have implications for nursing education, practice and research. Nursing education should include information about the influence of sexual orientation and gender identity on mental health outcomes. Perceived support from participants' partners, friends and families was related to lower risk of depressive symptoms. What is known on the subject?Distress screening amongst FGs is emphasized in worldwide studies, but existing general tools were found time‐consuming and sometimes inconvenient when using them amongst FGs of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.The DT, a single‐item scale, was widely used to detect distress amongst FGs of cancer patients, showing good reliability, validity and discrimination power.The 21‐item Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS21) can identify distress in the general population and serve as a criterion to determine an optimal cut‐off score of the DT. What does the paper add to existing knowledge?: The DT presented good reliability, validity and discriminatory power amongst FGs of adults diagnosed with schizophrenia. A cut‐off score of six maximized sensitivity (77%) and specificity (76%). Over half of the FGs of adults diagnosed with schizophrenia reached this cut‐off score and experienced significant distress. Results: Participants showed very positive attitudes and high levels of knowledge about the conceptual definition and application of AHDs in clinical practice but their knowledge of the legalities, procedure and registration of AHDs was poor. Working in a community, having a career specializing in mental health or having personally signed an AHD was associated with enhanced knowledge about them. Moreover, female sex or employment as an auxiliary nursing‐care technician was associated with stronger positive attitudes. Aim: To compare temporal trends in psychiatric health services use before and after TDM implementation within acute and tertiary care psychiatric units in Ontario, Canada. Method: Using health administrative databases, monthly discharges from psychiatric units 3 years prior to 2 years after TDM implementation were identified. Median inpatient length of stay (LOS), psychiatric readmission rates and mental health‐related emergency department visit rates were compared using segmented regression analyses. Results: Among acute care units, median LOS decreased significantly below the projected historical trend following TDM implementation, while readmissions increased significantly and declined thereafter. No significant changes were found for tertiary care units. Discussion: Studies on various interventions have shown decreased readmission rates, whereas the trend differed between acute and tertiary care units in this study. Few studies have examined the relationship between social capital and depression in PLWH. Aim/Question: We conducted a secondary analysis of the relationship between social capital (Social Capital Scale score) and depression (Beck Depression Inventory‐II scores) to determine whether depression predicted levels of social capital in a sample of 108 PLWH. Results: Depression was significantly associated with lower social capital r(105) = −.465 p <.001. Depression remained a significant predictor of social capital in the linear regression model, F(5,101) = 8.508, p <.000, R2 = 0.296, when controlling for age and education level. Discussion: Our results suggest that depression may be a significant predictor of low social capital, and these factors may have cyclical relationships that explain persistent depression in this population. What this paper adds to existing knowledge?: We investigated whether levels of cardiovascular risk factors, cholesterol, HbA1c, systolic and diastolic blood pressure associated with adverse clinical outcomes are different in T2DM patients with and without SMI. We found significant differences in systolic blood pressure and HbA1c between the two groups.Fifty‐five percent and twenty‐nine percent of T2DM patients with comorbid SMI are at increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes due to sub‐optimal HbA1c and systolic blood pressure levels, respectively. Introduction: Patients with both severe mental illness (SMI) and type II diabetes (T2DM) have lower life expectancy than patients with T2DM alone, partly due to poor control of cardiovascular risk factors in comorbid patients. Aim: To compare levels of cholesterol, HbA1c and blood pressure in T2DM patients with and without SMI. Method: We analysed longitudinal clinical records of 30,353 people with T2DM (657 with SMI; 29,696 controls without SMI) between 2001 and 2013 using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD). We used mixed‐effects regression models to compare cardiovascular risk factors between SMI and controls. Results: Patients with SMI had lower mean systolic blood pressure (SBP; β: −2.49; SE = .45 p = <.01) and were more likely to have extreme (high and low) values of HbA1c and SBP (OR: 1.38, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.64 and 1.76:1.40, 2.21, respectively). Discussion: People with T2DM and SMI have similar average values of cardiovascular risk factors to people with T2DM alone but are more likely to have values of HbA1c and SBP indicating increased risk of adverse clinical outcomes. Implications for Practice: Improved management of cardiovascular risk factors in general, glycaemic control in particular, is central to addressing the increased risk of adverse outcomes in people with both SMI and T2DM. Introduction: Contemporary mental health policy identifies consumers as active participants in all aspects of mental health services from design to evaluation. Aim: To gain a snapshot of mental health researcher views on strategies for increasing research by or with consumers in mental health through the establishment of an Expert Consumer Researcher Group (ECRG). Methods: Cross‐sectional survey of 41 non‐consumer mental health researchers from Australia or New Zealand. Results: The introduction of an ECRG was considered an effective strategy for linking consumer and non‐consumer researchers and providing specialist advice on research design and methodology. The most suitable location for this group was identified as within consumer advocacy agencies (71%), universities (66%) or research funding bodies (66%). Participants rated their likelihood of seeking advice from the ECRG as high. Discussion: Research participants supported the value of an ECRG. They emphasized the importance of ensuring the group reflected a diversity of views and offered specialized expertise related to the specific topic. The ECRG could benefit both individual researchers and larger research organizations. Introduction: Differences in primary care facilities' preparedness for implementing mental health counselling may affect the implementation process but have rarely been studied. Aim: To assess the feasibility of using a novel methodological approach to explore variations in capability for implementing mental health counselling and factors potentially associated with this variation among primary care services in the Western Cape, South Africa. Methods: Staff from 26 facilities participated in discussions about their facility's mental health implementation capability. Three researchers conducted observations of the facility's environment, staff–patient interactions and resources. We used qualitative comparative analysis to identify factors potentially associated with implementation capability. Results: Facilities appeared to vary in their capability for implementing counselling services. The availability of person‐centred health services, a therapeutic environment and sufficient human resources may be requirements for implementation preparedness. Other factors that seem to support preparedness include the availability of confidential space for counselling and an adequately managed facility. Discussion: This study identified several features of well‐functioning primary care facilities. Facilities with these features may be better prepared to implement a new counselling service. Implications for practice: This method may identify facilities that are poorly prepared for implementation that could benefit from preparedness‐building interventions. Aim: We explored the association between type and severity of aggressive behaviour as experienced by nursing staff and staff's burnout symptoms. In addition, the moderating roles of personality characteristics and emotional intelligence (EI) were studied. Moreover, the usefulness of ambulatory skin conductance assessments in detecting arousal related to burnout symptoms was studied. Method: A total of 114 forensic nursing staff members filled out questionnaires and wore an ambulatory device. Results: Experiencing physical aggression was positively associated with staff's burnout symptoms. Stress management skills, a subscale of EI, but not personality, moderated this relationship. Skin conductance was not associated with burnout symptoms. Remarkably, the association between aggression and burnout symptoms was highest for staff reporting a higher number of stress management skills. Discussion: Longitudinal research is necessary to establish causality between client aggression and staff burnout symptoms. In addition, further research is necessary on the validity of the aggression measure used in the current study. Implication for practice: Nursing staff who experience physical aggression frequently should receive social support for this, and staff who report high stress management skills should be monitored more carefully after having been confronted with aggression. Accessible summary: What is known on the subject?: In collaborative care models between psychiatry and general practice, mental health nurses are used as care managers who carry out the treatment of patients with anxiety or depression in general practice and establish a collaborating relationship with the general practitioner. Although the care manager is the key person in the collaborative care model, there is little knowledge about this role and the challenges involved in it. What this paper adds to existing knowledge?: Our study shows that before the CMs could start treating patients in a routine collaborative relationship with GPs, they needed to carry out an extensive amount of implementation work. This included solving practical problems of location and logistics, engaging GPs in the intervention, and tailoring collaboration to meet the GP’s particular preferences. Implementing the role requires high commitment and an enterprising approach on the part of the care managers. The very experienced mental health nurses of this study had these skills. However, the same expertise cannot be presumed in a disseminated model. What are the implications for practice?: When introducing new collaborative care interventions, the care manager role should be well defined and be well prepared, especially as regards the arrival of the care manager in general practice, and supported during implementation by a coordinated leadership established in collaboration between hospital psychiatry and representatives from general practice. Abstract: Introduction: In collaborative care models for anxiety and depression, the care manager (CM), often a mental health nurse, has a key role. However, the work and challenges related to this role remain poorly investigated. Aim: To explore CMs’ experiences of their work and the challenges they face when implementing their role in a collaborative care intervention in the Capital Region of Denmark. Methods: Interviews with eight CMs, a group interview with five CMs and a recording of one supervision session were analysed by thematic analysis. Results: The CM carried out considerable implementation work. This included finding suitable locations; initiating and sustaining communication with the GPs and maintaining their engagement in the model; adapting to the patient population in general practice; dealing with personal security issues, and developing supportive peer relations and meaningful supervision. Discussion: We compare our findings to previous studies of collaborative care and advanced nursing roles in general practice. The importance of organizational leadership to support the CM's bridge‐building role is emphasized. Implications for practice: The planners of new collaborative care interventions should not only focus on the CM's clinical tasks but also on ensuring the sufficient organizational conditions for carrying out the role. In older patients, psychiatric illnesses often occur in combination with physical illnesses, requiring nursing care that is specific to these combined care needs. The impact of caring for these patients on the mental well‐being of nurses is unknown. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: Nursing staff working on specialized units for patients with combined care needs experience high levels of self‐efficacy in combination with strong feelings of self‐rated competence. Although levels of burnout are relatively low, mental healthcare nursing staff is more at risk for burnout when working in specialized settings for patients with combined care needs than nursing home staff working in specialized settings for these patients. Nursing staff characteristics, such as years of working experience and age, seem more important in relation to staff well‐being than patient characteristics in specialized settings for combined care needs. What are the implications for practice: Staff well‐being might benefit from specializing care, so that patients with similar care needs are placed together and care is focused. Aim: To investigate whether care characteristics of patients with combined care needs are related to the mental well‐being of nursing staff. Method: Well‐being of nursing staff was studied within a larger exploratory observational cross‐sectional study that examined the differences and similarities of specialized combined care units in Dutch mental healthcare and nursing home settings. Results: Nursing staff across settings, with more than 5 years of work experience, felt competent in caring for patients with combined care needs. No significant effects of care characteristics of patients with combined care needs on the work‐related well‐being of nursing staff were shown.
