Abstract

Picosecond fluorescence experiments are used for examining the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) reaction of 1-tert-butyl-6-cyano-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline (NTC6) in n-hexane and acetonitrile (MeCN). The decay of the locally excited (LE) absorption and the growing-in for the ICT state of NTC6 have shown that the ICT state has originated from the LE precursor and is not formed by direct excitation from [S.sub.0].

Abstract

Stark absorption spectroscopy is applied to 6-hydroxyquninoline (6-HQ) doped in polymer films of poly (methyl methacrylate) and poly (vinyl alcohol) at a temperature rang of 50-300 Kelvin. The results reveal that the molecular motion of 6-HQ in a polymer is very sensitive to the microenvironment of the surrounding matrix.

Abstract

A series of chloroquine-like compounds with different substituents on quinoline ring were synthesized and heme-binding association constant for each compound was also measured. The chemical shielding tensor at each carbon for compounds is related to drug-heme binding strength and results provide a rationale for underlying electronic effects responsible for drug-heme binding, useful for rational design of antimalarial quinolines.

Abstract

Chemical shift calculations are carried out for the quinoline carbons in 1,8-bis(2-isopropyl-4-quinolyl)-naphthalene, 2-isopropylquinoline, amodiaquine, and quinine and the N-oxide of each compound. Ab initio calculations of the isotropic shielding values are in agreement with experimental chemical shifts.
