Pemphigus vulgaris is an auto-immune blistering disorder associated with splitting at the dermoepidermal junction. It targets the desmoglein structural protein of skin thus causing formation of blisters. It is seen to be associated with esophageal and laryngeal malignancies. Folliculitis decalvans is a type of primary cicatricial alopecia predominantly which affects mainly middle aged males. Defective host responsive mechanism or infective etiology plays role in the pathogenesis. Clinically follicular pustules along with scarring alopecia are seen mainly over vertex and occipital area. Trichoscopy classically shows multiple tufts of hairs with serous exudates and crust. Treatment mainly aims at antimicrobial therapy along with corticosteroids & retinoid have also been tried. Background Diabetes is a common endocrine disease which can present with different cutaneous manifestations. Skin can act as a mirror for various systemic diseases including diabetes. For example candidial balanitis & recurrent folliculitis can help in diagnosing diabetes. Autoimmune skin diseases like vitiligo & Alopecia areata are mostly associated with type 1 diabetes. Various skin manifestation can appear in diabetes due to the disease or due to antidiabetic drugs. Thus keeping this in view we have undertaken this study. Objective To study the pattern of various cutaneous manifestations in diabetic patients and to study their clinical correlation. Subjects and Methods A cross sectional observational study was performed on 251 patients (159males and 92 females) attending the dermatology outpatient department. A detailed dermatological examination was done and findings were recorded. Results Fungal infections were most common infections associated with diabetes and in non infectious condition skin tags and acanthosis nigricans were most common. KID syndrome is a triad of keratitis, ichthyosis and deafness. A 6-year-old girl born of nonconsanguineous marriage, presented with a history of photophobia and skin lesions since birth. No other family members had similar complaints. Child did not respond to verbal commands due to impaired hearing. Cutaneous examination revealed generalized ichthyosis. Ophthalmic examination revealed keratitis, corneal opacities and circumcorneal vascularisation. Brainstem-evoked response audiogram (BERA) showed severe neurosensory deafness. Thus our case had classical triad of keratitis, ichthyosis and deafness suggestive of KID syndrome with sporadic mode of inheritance.
