Twelve diorganotin(IV) complexes of 2-quinaldate R2Sn(2-quin)2 and R2SnCl(2-quin) have been synthesized by dealkyltion reactions of 2-quinaldic acid (2-quinH) with (R3Sn)2O (R = PhCH2 1, 2-ClC6H4CH2 2, 2-FC6H4CH2 3, 4-FC6H4CH2 4, 4-CNC6H4CH2 5, Ph 6, 2,4-Cl2C6H3CH2 7) and R3SnCl (R = 2-ClC6H4CH2 8, 4-ClC6H4CH2 9, 2-FC6H4CH2 10, 4-FC6H4CH2 11, PhCH2 12), and all the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and multinuclear NMR (1H, 13C, 119Sn) spectroscopies. The structures of (4-FC6H4CH2)2Sn(2-quin)2 · 2CH3CN (4) and {[(2-ClC6H4CH2)2Sn(2-quin)Cl]2 · CH3OH}n (8) have been determined by X-ray diffraction. Studies show that complex 4 is a monomer with the central tin atom six-coordinated in a skew-trapezoidal-bipyramidal geometry and complex 8 is a one-dimensional polymer with the tin atom six-coordinated. Studies also show that the nitrogen atoms of the 2-quin ligand are coordinating to the tin atoms for all of the 12 complexes.

Eight diorganotin esters of Schiff base ligands formulated as [R 2 SnLY] 2 , where L 1 is 4-NC 5 H 4 CON 2 C(CH 3 ) CO 2 with Y = H 2 O, R = Ph ( 1 ), PhCH 2 ( 2 ), m -ClC 6 H 4 CH 2 ( 3 ), and L 2 is 2-HOC 6 H 4 CON 2 C(CH 3 ) CO 2 with Y = CH 3 OH, R = PhCH 2 ( 4 ), o -ClC 6 H 4 CH 2 ( 5 ), m -ClC 6 H 4 CH 2 ( 6 ), o -FC 6 H 4 CH 2 ( 7 ), p -FC 6 H 4 CH 2 ( 8 ) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1 H and 119 Sn NMR spectra. The crystal structures of compounds 1 , 2 and 4 have been determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Their structures show that the tin atoms of three compounds are all rendered seven-coordinated in distorted pentagonal bipyramid geometries with a planar SnO 4 N unit and two apical aryl carbon atoms. A comparison of the IR spectra of the ligands with those of the corresponding compounds, reveals that the disappearance of the bands assigned to carbonyl unambiguously conforms that the ligands coordinate with tin in the enol form.

Eight ionic organotin compounds [R2SnCl2(2-quin)]−(HNEt3)+ have been synthesized by reactions of 2-quinH with R2SnCl2 (R = PhCH2 1, 2-Cl-C6H4CH2 2, 4-Cl-C6H4CH2 3, 2-F-C6H4CH2 4, 4-F-C6H4CH2 5, 4-CN-C6H4CH2 6, Ph 7, 2,4-Cl2-C6H3CH2 8) in the presence of organic base NEt3, and their structures have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and multinuclear NMR (1H, 13C, 119Sn) spectroscopies. The structure of [(2,4-Cl2-C6H3CH2)2SnCl2(2-quin)]−(NEt3)+ (8) has been determined by X-ray diffraction study. Studies show that compound 8 has a monomeric structure with the central tin atom six-coordinate in a distorted octahedral configuration and the nitrogen atoms of the 2-quin ligands are coordinating to the tin atom in all the eight compounds.

Reactions of R2SnO (R: nBu, Cy, Ph, PhCH2) and R3SnCl (R: Ph, Cy, PhCH2, 2-Cl-PhCH2, 4-F-PhCH2, 4-Cl-PhCH2) with N-(4-carboxyphenyl)-salicylideneimine (LH2) in 1:1 stoichiometry afford complexes {[R2Sn(LH)]2O}2 and R3Sn(LH). These complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H and 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structures of {[nBu2Sn(LH)]2O}2, 1 and Ph3Sn(L), 5 are determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Results showed that in the solid state the complex 1 is a tetranuclear centrosymmetric dimer with six-coordination being assigned to both the endo-cyclic and exo-cyclic tin atoms after consideration of close intermolecular tin oxygen contacts, and study show that the imino nitrogen atom do not participate in coordination to the tin atom. The complex 5 is a monomer, and in the molecule the tin atoms are five-coordinated in trigonal bipyramidal geometries with the two oxygen atom of the carboxylate both coordinating to the tin atoms.

Eight diorganotin esters of salicylidene- L -tryptophan(Sal-T) and salicylidene- L -valine(Sal-V), [(n-Bu)2Sn(Sal-T)] (1), [(n-Bu)2Sn(Sal-V)] (2), [Ph2Sn(Sal-T)] (3), [Ph2Sn(Sal-V)] (4), [(PhCH2)2Sn(Sal-T)] (5), [(PhCH2)2Sn(Sal-V)] (6), [(4-ClC6H4CH2)2Sn(Sal-T)] (7) and [(4-ClC6H4CH2)2Sn(Sal-V)] (8) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR. The crystal structures of compounds 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Their structures show the tin atoms of two compounds are rendered five-coordinated in distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometries.
