The design and synthesis of a tubular superconstruct formed from the self-assembly of non-cyclic bis-tripeptides anchored on a semirigid trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane space unit are described. It is shown that even a minimal noncyclic tripeptide consisting of L- and D-amino acids have adopted favorable conformations in the solid state when anchored to a [C.sub.2]-symmetrical turn motif such as trans-(1R,2R)-diaminocyclohexane (DACH).

The theoretical exploration of an all-cis L-homochiral [alpha]-aminoacid open chain, namely all-cis tridecaalanine structure is presented.

A new synthesis of highly functionalized cyclic sugar amino acids that allow to access macrocycles in two steps from simple starting materials is reported. In this two-step process only two molecules of water are lost and lithium hydroxide and trifluoroacetic acid reagents are used to mediate the formation of these macrocycles.
