Iron and cobalt complexes of 3-aminocyclopentadienones are synthesized from the [2+2+1] cycloadditions of nitrogen acetylenes and pendant alkenes. Following decomplexation, the resulting 3-aminocyclopentadienones is subjected to chemo- and regioselective cycloadditions with dienophiles and heterodienes.

The potential energy surface of 1,6-methanol[10]annulen-11-ylidene and its isomers are investigated by density functional (BLYP and B3LYP) molecular orbital methods. These calculations indicate the lowest energy annulene structure to be 56.9 kcal mol(super -1) higher in energy than triplet 1-naphthylcarbene.
