The field of criminology has been living within its own theoretical views. It has become increasingly dependent upon the content of its own logical reasoning to produce the progress and outcomes it seeks. It has maintained the status quo by re-cycling variations of its current thought patterns. Thus, the search for unknown or new knowledge has become re-search at previously established levels of understanding. This paper attempts to move beyond the current criminological frames of reference in order to examine how the field has evolved into its present state and proposes the need for an advanced criminology based on a deeper understanding of the psychological function that is used to create all patterns of thought.

This paper presents a new paradigm for criminological inquiry that transcends the field's present base of assumptions and theories. Herein, the principles of the Psychology of Mind, POM, (Suarez and Mills, 1982; Suarez, Mills and Stewart, 1987) have been translated into a neo-cognitive model of crime. The four main principles of POM are: (1) The Principle of Thought; (2) The Principle of Separate Realities; (3) The Principle of Levels of Counsciousness; and (4) The Principle of Feelings and Emotions. These four principles or constants are shown to connect in an exact manner the variables of thought, perception, motivation, emotion, and behavior of all delinquent and criminal offenders. Furthermore, these principles clearly reveal ways to prevent and reverse the process the results in crime.
