Background: Preterm birth is a significant obstetrical concern around the globe. With this study, we aimed to determine whether a prior singleton pregnancy preterm birth increases the likelihood of preterm birth in subsequent twin pregnancies. We designed his systematic review to provide valuable information for pregnant women and obstetricians during counselling and for individuals involved in the planning of preventive strategies. Methods: We comprehensively searched the PubMed, Embase and Scopus databases to identify relevant studies published until October 2023 following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We applied a random-effects meta-analysis to the data gathered from the selected studies. Results: Among the 460 initially identified studies, only eight met the eligibility criteria. The analysis of incidence revealed an event rate of 9.5% (95% CI, 4.4-19.5%) for a history of preterm singleton birth in the cohort of women with subsequent twin pregnancies. Subgroup analyses focused on the risk of preterm twin births (<37 weeks, <34 weeks and <32 weeks) in women with prior preterm singleton births. Our results revealed a significantly elevated risk of subsequent preterm twin births associated with prior preterm singleton births at <37 weeks (OR, 2.94; 95% CI, 1.99-4.33; p < .001), <34 weeks (OR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.67-2.14; p < .001) and <32 weeks (OR, 2.51; 95% CI, 1.58-3.99; p < .001), without heterogeneity in the included studies. Conclusions: Our systematic analysis indicates a consistent and statistically significant association between a history of preterm singleton births and preterm twin births at various gestational ages. These findings underscore the importance of the obstetric history during assessments to predict the risk of preterm births in twin pregnancies. Clinicians should monitor pregnancies with a history of preterm singleton births, as targeted interventions and improved prenatal care can mitigate the risk of preterm birth during twin pregnancies. Background: TO analyse changes in lipid levels during the development of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) and identify new biomarkers for predicting ICP. Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted to analyse 473 pregnant women who underwent regular prenatal examinations and delivered at the Women and children's Hospital, school of Medicine, Xiamen University, between June 2020 and June 2023, including 269 normal pregnancy controls and 204 pregnant women with cholestasis. Results: Patients with ICP with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) have lower high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels than in those without GDM. total bile acid (TBA) levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with GDM than those without. the apolipoprotein A (APOA) level was lower in patients with ICP and hypothyroidism than those without hypothyroidism. TBA levels were significantly higher in pregnant women with hypothyroidism than those without. triglyceride (TG) levels were significantly higher in patients with preeclampsia (PE) than those without. HDL and APOA levels were lower in women with ICP complicated by preterm delivery than those with normal delivery. The AUC (area under the curve) of the differential diagnosis of cholestasis of pregnancy for the APOA/APOB (apolipoprotein B) ratio was 0.727, with a sensitivity of 85.9% and specificity of 47.5%. Conclusions: The results suggested that dyslipidaemia is associated with an increased risk of ICP and its complications. Background: Both the trauma of endometrium and hysteroscopic adhesiolysis can lead to a high rate of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) in women with intrauterine adhesion (IUA). This study analysed the impact of time interval from adhesiolysis to pregnancy on PAS in IUA women. Methods: Patients diagnosed with IUA who underwent adhesiolysis in Anhui Women and children's Medical centre between January 2016 and December 2020 were included in this case-series study. clinical data were obtained from electronic medical records and telephone interviews. Results: Among a total of 102 IUA women with successful pregnancies, 8 (7.8%) suffered from miscarriages with PAS, and 94 (92.2%), 47 with PAS and 47 without PAS, had successful delivery. The total prevalence of PAS in pregnant women with IUA was 53.9% (55/102). The average time from adhesiolysis to pregnancy in the PAS group was significantly longer than in the non-PAS group (14.2 ± 5.7 vs. 10.3 ± 4.4 months, p = 0.000). Regression analysis showed that AFS grade (OR = 7.40, 95% CI 1.38-39.73, p = 0.020) and adhesiolysis to pregnancy interval time between 12 and 24 months (OR = 12.09, 95% CI 3.76-38.83, p = 0.000) were closely related to PAS. A Kaplan-Meier analysis showed the median interval time to PAS was 16.00 months (95% CI 15.11-16.89). Background: Foetal reduction, which involves selectively terminating one or more foetuses in a multiple gestation pregnancy, has become more common. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to assess and compare pregnancy outcomes of foetal reduction from twin to singleton gestation to ongoing twin gestations. Methods: A comprehensive search of electronic databases (MEDLINE, EMbase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL and PsycINFO) was done for studies published until 15 April 2023. The outcomes analysed included gestational diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, caesarean delivery, foetal loss, perinatal death, preterm birth (PTB), intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), preterm prelabour rupture of membranes (PPROM) and birth weight. Results: A total of 13 studies comprising 1241 cases of twin to singleton foetal reduction gestation were compared to 20,693 ongoing twin gestations. Our findings indicate that foetal reduction was associated with a significantly lower risk of developing maternal gestational DM (odds ratio [OR] = 0.40, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.27-0.59) and hypertension (OR = 0.36, 95% CI 0.23-0.57) compared to the control group. Incidence rate of caesarean delivery (OR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.53-0.81) after foetal reduction was significantly lower compared to ongoing twin gestations. There was a 63% lower chance of PTB before 37 weeks of pregnancy. However, there was no significant association between foetal reduction and outcomes such as foetal loss, perinatal death, IUGR and PPROM. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that foetal twin to singleton reduction entails potential benefits as compared to ongoing twin gestations. Further well planned studies are needed to explore underlying mechanisms to understanding of the outcomes associated with foetal reduction procedures and inform clinical decision-making for pregnant individuals and healthcare providers alike. Background: Adolescent pregnancy is defined as pregnancy occurring in young women between the ages of 10 and 19 years. Adolescent pregnancies, which are among the social healthcare concerns in developed and developing countries, have negative effects on maternal and infant health. Pregnancy in adolescence puts the health of both the mother and child at risk, as adolescent pregnancies have higher rates of eclampsia, systemic infection, low birth weight, and preterm delivery compared to other pregnancies. In this study, the effects of education level, smoking, and marital status on maternal and foetal outcomes in adolescent pregnancies were evaluated. Methods: The records of a total of 960 pregnant women (480 pregnant adolescents aged 15-19 years and 480 pregnant adult women aged 20-26 years) were examined retrospectively. The demographic data of the groups and maternal and foetal outcomes of the pregnancies were compared. A logistic regression model was established as a statistical method for reducing confounding effects. Results: Unmarried women were statistically significantly more prevalent in the adolescent group (38.3% vs. 7.3%). Among the considered risk factors, preeclampsia (2.9% vs. 0.8%) and smoking (29.8% vs. 9.8%) were statistically significantly more common in the adolescent group. When the groups were compared in terms of risk factors in pregnancy, it was found that pregnancy in adolescence was associated with a 3.04-fold higher risk of smoking, 5.25-fold higher risk of being unmarried, 3.50-fold higher risk of preeclampsia, and 1.70-fold higher risk of intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). Conclusions: This study demonstrates an increased risk of preeclampsia, IUGR, and smoking during pregnancy in adolescent pregnant women. Background: epidural analgesia has emerged as one of the best methods that can be used to reduce labour pain. this study was conducted to assess awareness, attitudes, and practices of pregnant women who visited maternity and antenatal healthcare clinics about epidural analgesia during normal vaginal birth. Methods: this multicentre study was conducted in a cross-sectional design among pregnant women using a pre-tested questionnaire. the study population in this study was pregnant women who visited maternity and antenatal healthcare clinics in Palestine. Results: in this study, a total of 389 pregnant women completed the questionnaire. Of the pregnant women, 381 (97.9%) were aware of the existence of epidural analgesia, 172 (44.2%) had already used epidural analgesia, and 57 (33.1%) experienced complications as a result of epidural analgesia. Of the pregnant women, 308 (79.2%) stated that epidural analgesia should be available during vaginal birth. Of the pregnant women, 243 (62.5%) stated that they would use epidural analgesia if offered for free or covered by insurance. Multivariate logistic regression showed that women who were younger than 32 years, who have used epidural analgesia, and those who stated that epidural analgesia should be available during vaginal birth were 2.78-fold (95% Cl: 1.54-5.04), 4.96-fold (95% Cl: 2.71-9.10), and 13.57-fold (95% Cl: 6.54-28.16) more likely to express willingness to use epidural analgesia, respectively. Conclusions: Pregnant women had high awareness of the existence, moderate knowledge, and positive attitudes towards epidural analgesia for normal vaginal birth. Background: Due to its potential nephrotoxicity, screening for pre-existing renal function disorders has become a routine clinical assessment for initiating Tenofovir diphosphate fumarate (TDF)-containing antiretroviral treatment (Art) or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in pregnant and non-pregnant adults. We aimed to establish reference values for commonly used markers of renal function in healthy pregnant women of African origin. Methods: Pregnant women ≥18 years, not living with HIV, and at 14-28 weeks gestation were enrolled in a PrEP clinical trial in Durban, South Africa between September 2017 and December 2019. Women were monitored 4-weekly during pregnancy until six months postpartum. We measured maternal weight and serum creatinine (sCr) at each visit and calculated creatinine clearance (CrCl) rates using the Cockcroft-Gault (CG) and Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formulae. Reference ranges for sCr and CrCl by CG and MDRD calculations were derived from the mean ± 2SD of values for pregnancy and postdelivery. Results: Between 14--and 40 weeks gestation, 249 African women not exposed to TDF-PrEP contributed a total of 1193 renal function values. Postdelivery, 207 of these women contributed to 800 renal function values. The normal reference range for sCr was 30-57 and 32-60 umol/l in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Normal reference ranges for CrCl using the MDRD calculation were 129-282 and 119-267 ml/min/1.73m² for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters, respectively. Using the CG method of calculation, normal reference ranges for CrCl were 120-304 and 123-309 ml/min/1.73m² for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters respectively. In comparison, the normal reference range for sCr, CrCl by MDRD and CG calculations postpartum was 40-77 umol/l, 92-201, and 90-238 ml/min/1.73m², respectively. Conclusions: In African women, the Upper Limit of Normal (ULN) for sCr in pregnancy is approximately 20% lower than 6 months postnatally. Inversely, the Lower Limit of Normal (LLN) for CrCl using either MDRD or CG equation is approximately 35% higher than 6 months postnatally. Background: this investigation aimed to analyse the efficacy of abdominal subcutaneous fat thickness (ASFT) value >18.1 mm combined with a 50-g glucose challenge test (GCT) between 24-28 weeks of gestation in predicting gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) cases. Methods: this cross-sectional study was carried out from February 2021 to December 2022. All pregnant women received a 50-g GcT at 24-28 weeks of pregnancy for the GDM screening. Pregnant women with a blood glucose value between 140-190 mg/dl experienced 100 g OGTT. even if 50-g GcT was normal, 100-g OGTT was offered to patients with an ASFT value above 18.1 mm Results: Among the 728 pregnant women we enrolled, 154 (21.2%) cases were screened as positive. The number of patients who first screened positive and determined to be GDM after the 100-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was 43 (5.9%). A total of 67 cases (9.2%) had an ASFT measurement above 18.1 mm. Two cases with a negative 50-g GCT and ASFT <18.1 mm were diagnosed as GDM in the later weeks of pregnancy. A 50-g GCT combined with ASFT measurement above 18.1 mm predicted GDM with a sensitivity of 87.9%, a specificity of 88.7%, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 36.0%, and a negative PV (NPV) of 99.7%. Conclusions: A 50-g GCT combined with ASFT measurement that can be easily and accurately obtained during routine antenatal care in the second trimester might be a beneficial indicator for predicting GDM cases. Robert's uterus was firstly reported in 1970, it's a rare Müllerian duct anomaly with 2 intra-uterine cavities divided by asymmetrical septum. One of the cavities is completely obstructed to cervix by septum and menstruation fluid retents in this blind cavity, periodical pelvic pain during menstruation can lead attendance to hospital. We report a gravida of Robert's uterus with missed abortion in the blind cavity, who had mild dysmenorrhoea since adolescent age, diagnosed and treated by minimally invasive surgical methods. To our knowledge, it's a previously unreported case which gynaecologists terminated pregnancy in blind cavity of Robert's uterus without resecting the septum while dysmenorrhoea relieved entirely and postoperative volume of menstruation stayed the same as preoperative. Reliably predicting spontaneous preterm birth remains challenging, therefore it persists as a major contributor to perinatal morbidity and mortality. The use of biomarkers to predict premature cervical shortening, a recognised risk factor for spontaneous preterm birth, is yet to be fully explored in current literature. This study evaluates seven cervicovaginal biochemical biomarkers as possible predictors of premature cervical shortening. Asymptomatic, high-risk women (n = 131) presenting to a specialised preterm birth prevention clinic were analysed through a retrospective data analysis. Cervicovaginal biochemical biomarker concentrations were obtained, and the shortest cervical length measurement, up to 28 weeks' gestation, was recorded. Associations between biomarker concentration and cervical length were then analysed. Of the seven biochemical biomarkers, Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist and Extracellular Matrix Protein-1 had statistically significant relationships with cervical shortening below 25 mm. Further investigation is required to validate these findings and any downstream clinical utility, with intentions to improve perinatal outcomes. What is already known on this subject? Preterm birth is a major cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. A woman's risk of delivering preterm is currently stratified using historical risk factors, mid-gestation cervical length, and biochemical biomarkers such as foetal fibronectin. In a cohort of high-risk, asymptomatic pregnant women, two cervicovaginal biochemical biomarkers, Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist and Extracellular Matrix Protein-1, displayed associations with premature cervical shortening. The present study aimed to evaluate the perinatal outcomes and influencing factors in twin pregnancies undergoing emergency cervical cerclage. The present retrospective cohort study included clinical data that were recorded between January 2015 and December 2021 at The Second Affiliated Hospital and Yuying Children's Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (China). The study included data from 103 pregnancies (26 twin and 77 singleton pregnancies) that underwent emergency cerclage and 17 twin pregnancies that underwent expectant treatment. The median gestational age of twin emergency cerclage was significantly lower than that of singleton emergency cerclage, but higher than that of expectant treatment (28.5, 34.0 and 24.0 weeks, respectively). The median interval to delivery of twin emergency cerclage was significantly lower than that of singleton emergency cerclage, but significantly higher than that of expectantly treated twin pregnancies (37.0, 78.0 and 7.0 days, respectively). What is already known on this subject? An important cause of premature birth is cervical insufficiency. Cervical cerclage extends the gestational period of women with cervical insufficiency. According to 2019 SOGC's No. 373-Cervical Insufficiency and Cervical Cerclage, both twin and single pregnancies benefit from emergency cerclage. However, there is minimal information about the pregnancy outcomes of emergency cerclage in twin pregnancies. What the results of this study add? This study shows that the outcomes of pregnancy in twin pregnancies undergoing emergency cerclage were better than that of expectant treatment but worse than that in singleton pregnancies undergoing emergency cerclage. A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted among 991 pregnant and 674 non-pregnant women of reproductive age attending healthcare facilities in Ibadan, Nigeria using the General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ), and WHO self-reporting questionnaire (SRQ). Logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify predictors of psychiatric morbidity at p < 0.05. A significantly higher proportion of pregnant women experienced psychological distress on the GHQ (51.8%) and psychiatric morbidity on SRQ (33.3%) compared with 28.6% and 18.2% of non-pregnant women, respectively. Predictors of psychiatric morbidity among pregnant women were the type of facility, poor satisfaction and communication with partners, the experience of violence in the home, previous abortions, and previous history of depression. Psychiatric morbidity among non-pregnant women was predicted by younger age, previous history of depression, poor satisfaction and communication with partners. There is a need for early identification of psychiatric morbidity among women of reproductive age, to ensure early interventions and prevent long-term disability. What is already known on this subject? Psychiatric morbidity has immense effects on a woman's quality of life, social functioning, obstetric outcome, and economic productivity. What do the results of this study add? Psychiatric morbidity among women of reproductive age is high. Pregnant women when compared to non-pregnant women had significantly higher rates of psychiatric morbidity. This high prevalence of psychiatric morbidity in both groups was predicted by poor satisfaction and communication with partners, and a previous history of depression. Simple screening for women of reproductive age attending healthcare facilities may help with the early identification of psychiatric morbidity leading to prompt interventions, and preventing long-term disability. This aim of this study was to investigate maternal hematological laboratory parameters of term infants before birth diagnosed with asphyxia compared to mothers of healthy term infants and predict asphyxia by these parameters. This study was conducted on 109 and 192 mothers of the fetus with asphyxia and healthy, respectively. Laboratory parameters of complete blood count, including PDW (platelet distribution width), PCT (procalcitonin) and NLR (neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio), were recorded before birth from pregnant women. PDW and basophil counts were significantly higher in the asphyxia group than healthy group (p:.000). The cut-off level of 19.425 accurately predicted the occurrence of asphyxia (AUC = 0.724 (95% confidence interval 0.65–0.78), p =.000). Basophil count could predict asphyxia, especially the cut-off level of> 0.15(10³/μL) (AUC = 0.67) (95% confidence interval 0.60–0.74, p =.000). To predict asphyxia before labor, a cheap and routine test of PDW can be used after more research in this area. What is already known on this subject? Asphyxia is still an unsolved problem in neonatal mortality and morbidity, and it is seen in babies of mothers who carry some risks during pregnancy (such as multiple pregnancy, baby of mother with preeclampsia, meconium aspiration, diabetes); however, it is known that it is a subject that is still not fully understood as it can also occur as a result of labor that does not have any risk factors and goes well. In term fetuses without risk factors, it can be predicted to a certain extent whether the fetus will be diagnosed with asphyxia from the hemogram test that can work from the blood of the mother before birth. In clinical practice, asphyxia can be estimated with a cheap and simple test, without any extra examination, by looking at the routine blood tests taken from the mother before going into labor. Thalassaemia is a typically monogenic disease caused by mutations or deletions in the globin gene and has a high prevalence in southern China. Prenatal screening for thalassaemia can be effective in reducing the incidence of thalassaemia. Haematologic parameters of pregnant thalassaemia carriers are diverse and potentially valuable for identifying different types of genotypes. By comparing and evaluating haematological parameters, formulas in the literature, we tried to reveal differences between pregnant women carrying different types of thalassaemia genes. The Mentzer formula (MCV/RBC) showed a strong ability to differentiate thalassaemia genotypes in pregnant women. In addition, combined with haemoglobin electrophoresis HbA2 can further distinguish the –α/αα, αTα/αα, –/αα, β+/N and β0/N groups. HbA2 divides them into two groups. Based on the Mentzer formula, we can further decide which type of thalassaemia to screen (α/β and the subgroups) for genotyping. Therefore, this simpler and more cost-effective workflow has great potential for application in screening pregnant women for thalassaemia carriers. What is already known on this subject? Currently, it is known that thalassaemia gene carriers have abnormal blood indicators. Many findings describe their important values in distinguishing thalassaemia and other blood diseases. They combined different metrics as an algorithm to distinguish thalassaemia and iron deficiency anaemia. Prenatal screening is an effective method to reduce the incidence of thalassaemia. The current main method is PCR. Due to technical and financial constraints, many backward places cannot use this technology. The necessity for prenatal screening for thalassaemia has been overlooked. Whatthe results of this study add? Among these algorithms, Mentzer formula revealed differences in haematological parameters during pregnancy between normal individuals and thalassaemia carriers. Combining the HbA2, thalassaemia carriers can be distinguished from normal individuals, including –α/αα, αTα/αα, –/αα, β0/N and β+/N. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? We provide another tool for these hospitals that donot have Hb electrophoresis test and PCR. Then the clinical doctor can get some evidence and suggest women go to another big hospital for essential tests. It is an excellent suggestion. In high-altitude regions, low birth weight is mainly caused by hypoxia. We aimed to determine whether maternal serum uric acid (SUC) level was associated with decreased foetal birth weight. The relevant data of individual pregnant women who delivered between 37 and 40 weeks in the People's Hospital of Naqu City, Tibet were retrospectively collected. The correlation between maternal SUC and birth weight was examined using multivariate linear regression analysis and subgroup analysis. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between SUC and birth weight in pregnant women with proteinuria, female foetuses, and primiparas. Fitting smoothing curve analysis showed that there was a negative linear correlation between SUC and birth weight in primiparas and female foetuses. Maternal SUC is negatively associated with foetal birth weight in a single pregnancy with proteinuria, primipara, or female foetuses in the Naqu region of Tibet, China. Preeclampsia associated with hyperuricaemia can affect foetal birth weight, foetal birth weight in plains area is negatively correlated with maternal hyperuricaemia. The aetiological mechanism of preeclampsia (PE) is unclear exactly, so we attempted to investigate the association between susceptibility to preeclampsia and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) gene polymorphisms to explore the aetiology in terms of genetics. A systematic search was performed in electronic databases to identify relevant studies. Eventually 73 studies were enrolled, odds ratios were generated by 5 genetic models. In overall analysis, significant associations were detected for AGT M235T, AT1R A1166C and CYP11B2 C344T whereas negative correlation was shown for AGT T174M. As stratified by race and geography, AGT 235T allele and AT1R 1166C allele increased preeclampsia risk and AGT T174M was justified uncorrelated with preeclampsia. Our meta-analysis illustrated that AGT 235T allele and AT1R 1166C allele increased and CYP11B2 344T allele decreased preeclampsia risk while AGT T174M polymorphism did not change preeclampsia risk. This study was conducted to determine the stress, emotional eating and weight bias levels of Turkish pregnant women. The study sample was composed of 210 pregnant women, who met the research inclusion criteria and admitted to the obstetrics and gynaecology outpatient clinics of Bingol Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Research data were collected between December 2018 and June 2019, using face-to-face interview technique. Personal Information Form, Tilburg Pregnancy Distress Scale (TPDS), Internalised Weight Bias Scale (IWBS), and Emotional Eating sub-scale items of the Netherlands Eating Behaviour Questionnaire used to collect data. In our study, 47.9% of pregnant women were found to be overweight or obese according to the pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) average. Pregnant women experience a moderate level of stress, emotional eating and weight bias. It was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the weight bias score averages and the emotional eating and stress score averages of the pregnant women (p <.05). In our study, stress, emotional eating and weight bias score averages of pregnant women in the 3rd trimester were found to be higher than that of the pregnant women in the 2nd trimester (p <.05). It has been determined that nearly 1in 2 pregnant women was overweight or obese, when BMI level of the women increased, weight stigma and emotional eating of them also increased. It is important to inform nurses about the relationship between stress, weight bias, eating disorders, and obesity; moreover, care should be providing with the awareness that pregnant women with obesity are at greater risk in terms of these factors. It is of great importance to provide the necessary training and counselling by nurses to ensure the psychological adaptation of pregnant women to childbirth and the postpartum period. Besides, any disadvantage or disparity between overweight and obese pregnant women in the care process should be eliminated, and all pregnant women, regardless of their body size, should have equal access to supportive prenatal and postnatal care. Pregnant women are one of the endangered groups who need special attention in the COVID-19 epidemic. We conducted a systematic review and summarised the studies that reported adverse pregnancy outcomes in pregnant women with COVID-19 infection. A literature search was performed in PubMed and Scopus up to 1 September 2022, for retrieving original articles published in the English language assessing the association between COVID-19 infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Finally, in this review study, of 1790 articles obtained in the initial search, 141 eligible studies including 1,843,278 pregnant women were reviewed. We also performed a meta-analysis of a total of 74 cohort and case-control studies. In this meta-analysis, both fixed and random effect models were used. Publication bias was also assessed by Egger's test and the trim and fill method was conducted in case of a significant result, to adjust the bias. The result of the meta-analysis showed that the pooled prevalence of preterm delivery, maternal mortality, NICU admission and neonatal death in the group with COVID-19 infection was significantly more than those without COVID-19 infection (p<.01). A meta-regression was conducted using the income level of countries. COVID-19 infection during pregnancy may cause adverse pregnancy outcomes including of preterm delivery, maternal mortality, NICU admission and neonatal death. Pregnancy loss and SARS-CoV2 positive neonates in Lower middle income are higher than in High income. The accuracy of the recall of the severity of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) with Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE) questionnaire has been questioned. We aimed to compare PUQE scores of women recalling the worst episode of NVP of their current pregnancy in different gestational weeks (gwks). Total of 2343 pregnant women (gwks 7–40) were recruited. Four groups were formed according to the gwks at reply: ≤16 gwks (n = 554), ≤20 gwks (n = 1209), >20 gwks (n = 1134) and ≥24 gwks (n = 495). PUQE scores were similar between the groups. Consequently, consistency of PUQE scores across the groups endorses the useability of the PUQE questionnaire in retrospective assessment of the overall severity of NVP in different gwks, regardless of passing of the peak NVP symptoms. What is already known on this subject? Retrospective evaluation of the severity of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) has been argued to be disposed to recall bias. The aim of this retrospective study was to demonstrate the effectiveness of APRI, DNI, NLR, PLR, and PDW in predicting the severity of gestational hypertension (GHT) and PE and to determine whether these factors can be used as screening tools. Normotensive pregnant women (n = 792) served as the control group. 1,213 single pregnant women who met the following criteria for a GHT diagnosis were included in the study group. We found a significantly higher mean PLR and NLR value. The mean PDW value was significantly lower in the control group than in the other groups. The SPE group had a significantly higher mean APRI score. The groups did not differ by their DNI. We determined PDW and APRI as independent parameters that predicted SPE by multiple logistic regression analysis. In retrospective analysis of blood samples taken from these participants below week 20, we found that the APRI value differed significantly between the control and SPE groups. NLR, PLR, DNI, and PDW had no clinical significance. We further suggested that APRI may provide a clinical indication of progression from hypertensive pregnancy disorders to SPE, which seems to be a promising implication that should be verified by further studies. What is already known on this subject? Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy are a major cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. Screening pregnant women for risk factors for developing hypertensive disorders and identifying women at high risk in early pregnancy and initiating prophylactic treatment are important for pregnancy monitoring and planning in experienced centres. Because only 30% of women who will develop preeclampsia can be predicted by risk factors, the combined use of laboratory tests and imaging with risk factors to calculate a woman's risk of developing preeclampsia is currently being investigated. Scrub typhus, caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi, is a re-emerging endemic zoonosis in the Asia Pacific region. It is a febrile condition ranging in severity from mild to severe, with fatality rates as high as 30%. The present study aims towards analysing the clinical profile and pregnancy outcomes in 27 cases of scrub typhus admitted to a tertiary care centre in North India. The medical records of 27 pregnant women who had scrub typhus were analysed. The IgM ELISA was used to look for IgM antibodies to Orientia tsutsugamushi in the patient's serum sample. An optical density of more than or equal to 0.468 was considered as positive. Majority of the pregnant females delivered healthy and live babies. However, poor foetal outcomes were observed in four (14.8%) cases with intrauterine deaths occurring in two (7.4%) cases and still birth in one (3.7%) case, while one (3.7%) patient had spontaneous abortion. Maternal mortality was reported in one patient (3.7%) due to a delay in diagnosis. In endemic settings, a strong index of suspicion for scrub typhus is necessary in pregnant females presenting with fever. This article discusses a study conducted in Northern Italy to estimate the acceptance and views of pregnant women on the COVID-19 vaccine. The study found that the overall vaccine uptake among pregnant women was 22.7%, but when the vaccine recommendation was extended to all pregnant women during the second and third trimester, the coverage increased to 49.4%. The study also found that vaccine uptake was higher among Italian women compared to immigrant women, as well as among women with higher education levels and those who were employed. This study investigated the relationship between maternal gestational weight gain (GWG) and the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)-negative pregnant women. We did a retrospective cohort study between 1 July 2017, and 1 January 2020, at Women's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Firstly, pregnant women were divided into subgroups according to the entire GWG (inadequate GWG, adequate GWG, and excessive GWG) and GDM status (positive and negative) during pregnancy. Secondly, the whole population of pregnant women with GDM was used as a reference to evaluate the relationship between GWG and adverse pregnancy outcomes in GDM-negative pregnant women. Lastly, subgroup analysis was conducted based on pre-pregnancy body mass index (pp-BMI). A total of 30,910 pregnant women were analysed. Included pregnancy women were divided into three groups based on GWG: 7569 (24.49%) pregnancy women had inadequate GWG, 13088 (42.34%) had adequate GWG, and 10,253 (33.17%) had excessive GWG. In addition to preterm birth and small for gestational age (SGA), the incidence of macrosomia and large for gestational age (LGA) continues to increase from inadequate GWG to excessive GWG groups. Pregnant women without GDM who have excessive GWG are at higher risk of macrosomia and LGA than pregnant women with GDM. Moreover, this risk increased with increasing pp-BMI. Pregnant women without GDM with inadequate GWG were at risk of preterm birth regardless of pp-BMI. Only those with inadequate GWG and pp-BMI < 18.5 kg/m2 had an increased risk of SGA. In conclusion, inappropriate GWG is strongly associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes, even if they do not have GDM. Therefore, this population should receive attention and management before and during pregnancy. What is already known on this subject? Several studies have focused on the GDM population and the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, but few have focused on GDM-negative populations. This is because GDM-negative women are perceived to be "safe," leading to less focus on themselves, which can lead to subsequent excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Our study found an inverse relationship between GWG and GDM. Therefore, our study focuses on this group of GDM-negative pregnant women. This study aimed to evaluate the value of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) in the prenatal screening of foetal aneuploidy-associated diseases at different gestational ages. Briefly, cell-free foetal DNAs were extracted from plasma first, followed by DNA sequencing and bioinformatics analyses for chromosome aneuploidy (T21, T18, and T13), sex chromosome aneuploidy (SCA), and microdeletion/microduplication. Subsequently, the positive results were subject to karyotype analyses. The pregnant women included in this study were divided into six groups, and the results, such as chromosome diagnoses, and clinical phenotypes, were collected for data analyses. According to the results of the data analysis, the positivity rates of foetal chromosomal abnormalities in pregnant women under 20, 20–24, 25–29, 30–34, 35–39, and >40 years old were 0%, 0.17%, 0.25%, 0.27%, 0.60%, and 1.66%, respectively. The positive predictive value (PPV) in the 20–24 years group was 41.67%, that in the 25–29 years group was 62.5%, that in the 30–34 years group was 66.67%, that in the 35–39 years group was 90.74%, and that in the >40 years group was 90.32%. Overall, NIPT detection in elderly pregnant women has excellent clinical application value in reducing the incidence of either birth defects or abortion caused by invasive chromosome examination. It is critical to diagnose foetal chromosome aneuploidy in time through prenatal screening to prevent birth defects. This study aimed to evaluate the value of non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) in prenatal screening of foetal aneuploidy-associated diseases at different gestational ages. A retrospective analysis based on NIPT screening data at a medical laboratory was performed. The results showed that the total positivity rate and total positive predictive value of trisomy 21, trisomy 18, and trisomy 13 in older pregnant women (≥35 years old) were significantly higher than those in younger pregnant women, and there was an increasing trend with increasing maternal ages. This study indicated that NIPT detection in elderly pregnant women has an excellent application value in clinical practice to reduce the incidence of birth defects and abortion caused by invasive chromosome examination. To evaluate the value of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting preeclampsia (PE) in pregnant women. PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science databases were searched for observational studies (cohort, case-control or cross-sectional) that reported pre-treatment maternal PLR values in women with and without PE. The analysis was done using a random effects model. Pooled effect sizes were reported as weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the risk of bias. Twenty-five studies with 7755 patients were included in this meta-analysis. PLR was comparable in patients with PE and healthy pregnant women (WMD −2.97; 95% CI: −11.95 to 6.02; N = 16). Patients with mild (WMD −3.00; 95% CI: −17.40 to 11.41; N = 12) and severe PE (WMD −5.77; 95% CI: −25.48 to 13.94; N = 14) had statistically similar PLR, compared to healthy controls. Our findings show similar PLR in PE and healthy pregnancies. PLR, therefore, may not be used to differentiate between PE and normal pregnancy or for assessing the severity of PE. The majority of included studies were case-control, potentially introducing bias, and we identified evidence of publication bias as well. This study assessed the use of the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) for the prediction of preeclampsia (PE) in pregnant women. After reviewing 25 studies involving 7755 pregnant women, the researchers found that PLR values were similar in women with PE and those with healthy pregnancies. In the current study, we sought to characterise the methylation haplotypes and nucleosome positioning patterns of placental DNA and plasma cell-free DNA of pregnant women with early-onset preeclampsia using whole genome bisulphite sequencing (WGBS) and methylation capture bisulphite sequencing (MCBS) and further develop and examine the diagnostic performance of a generalised linear model (GLM) by incorporating the epigenetic features for early-onset preeclampsia. This case-control study recruited pregnant women aged at least 18 years who delivered their babies at our Hospital. In addition, non-pregnant women with no previous history of diseases were included. Placental samples of the villous parenchyma were taken at the time of delivery and venous blood was drawn from pregnant women during non-invasive prenatal testing at 12–15 weeks of pregnancy and nonpregnant women during the physical check-up. WGBS and MCBS were carried out of extracted genomic DNA. Then, we established the GLM by incorporating preeclampsia-specific methylation haplotypes and nucleosome positioning patterns and examined the diagnostic performance of the model by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. The study included 135 pregnant women and 50 non-pregnant women. Our high-depth MCBS revealed notably different DNA methylation and nucleosome positioning patterns between women with and without preeclampsia. Preeclampsia-specific hypermethylated sites were found predominantly in the promoter regions and particularly enriched in CTCF on the X chromosome. Totally, 2379 preeclampsia-specific methylation haplotypes were found across the entire genome. ROC analysis showed that the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was 0.938 (95%CI 0.877, 1.000). At a GLM cut-off of 0.341, the AUC was the maximum, with a sensitivity of 95.6% and a specificity of 89.7%. Pregnant women with early-onset preeclampsia exhibit DNA methylation and nucleosome positioning patterns in placental and plasma DNA. Early-onset preeclampsia is a potentially dangerous condition that can have a profound impact on the health of both the expectant mother and her unborn child. This condition is particularly concerning because it's challenging to predict who may be affected using conventional methods such as monitoring blood pressure. In our research, we've developed an innovative, non-invasive approach to predict the onset of early preeclampsia. We do this by analysing the genetic material of the developing baby, which can be found in the mother's blood. Our method has shown remarkable accuracy in our testing populations, and its implications are substantial. By providing an early warning system, this breakthrough can benefit pregnant women immensely. It means that early-onset preeclampsia can be identified and addressed well before it becomes a serious health threat. Previous studies evaluating the relationship between blood manganese (Mn) level and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women showed inconsistent results. A systematic review and meta-analysis was therefore performed to investigate the above association. Relevant observational studies were obtained by search of electronic databases including Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science from database inception to 10 March 2023. Two authors independently performed database search, literature identification and data extraction. A randomised-effects model was selected to pool the data by incorporating the influence of potential heterogeneity. Subgroup analysis was performed to evaluate the influence of study characteristics on the results of the meta-analysis. Six datasets from five observational studies, involving 91,249 pregnant women were included in the meta-analysis. Among the participants, 3597 (3.9%) were diagnosed as GDM. Overall, pooled results showed that a high blood level of Mn was associated with a higher risk of GDM (compared between women with highest versus lowest category blood Mn, odds ratio: 1.31, 95% confidence interval: 1.19–1.44, p <.001) with no significant heterogeneity (p for Cochrane Q-test = 0.93, I2 = 0%). Subgroup analyses according to study design, mean maternal age, matrix or methods for measuring blood Mn, and the incidence of GDM also showed consistent results (p for subgroup difference all >.05). Results of the meta-analysis suggest that a high blood Mn level may be a risk factor of GDM in pregnant women. Studies are needed to determine the underlying mechanisms, and to investigate if the relationship between blood Mn level and GDM is dose-dependent. Changes of blood manganese (Mn) have been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes. However, the relationship between blood Mn level and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women remains undetermined. Our study represents the first systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the potential association between blood Mn concentration and the risk of GDM. In this meta-analysis, we pooled the results of six datasets from five observational and showed that compared to pregnant women with the lowest category of blood Mn level, those with the highest category of blood Mn level were associated with a higher risk of GDM. To determine the changes in emergency and elective caesarean section (CS) rates since the COVID-19 pandemic, identify the groups most affected, and examine changes in the factors associated with CS rates, and reasons for CS. We conducted a retrospective cohort study using routinely collected data of 22,346 births from before the pandemic (January 2018–February 2020) and 18,597 births during the pandemic (March 2020–December 2021). Data were analysed using multinominal logistic regression. The CS rate increased by 4.1% (from 30.1% to 34.2%), reflecting increases of 2.3% in emergency CS (from 11.5% to 13.8%) and 1.7% in elective CS (from 18.7% to 20.4%). Large groups with notable increases were women who were nulliparous (7.2% increase), from South Asia (6.0%), obese (5.2%) and giving birth at a small hospital (6.1%). Compared to pre-pandemic, the relative risk of an emergency CS versus a vaginal delivery increased 1.36 times (adjusted relative risk ratio (aRRR) = 1.36; 95% CI = 1.27, 1.45) and the risk of having an elective CS increased 1.11 times (aRRR = 1.11; 95% CI = 1.04, 1.20). Factors associated with both emergency and elective CS were age, region of birth, reproductive history, body mass index, hypertension, diabetes, mode of antenatal care and hospital. Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas and antenatal care were only associated with elective CS. Baby gender was only associated with emergency CS. Preterm gestation at delivery was associated with reduced emergency but increased elective CS. Foetal compromise was the most common indication for emergency CS (43.2%) and increased the most (8.0%). Previous CS was the most common indication for elective CS (61.5%) and reduced the most (1.9%). Both emergency and elective CS rates increased significantly during the pandemic, with the former increasing at a higher rate. The persistent upward trend of CS rates, exacerbated by increasing proportions of nulliparous women undergoing CSs, is concerning. Australia has a very high caesarean section (CS) rate that varies greatly between groups of women with different socio-economic characteristics and reproductive histories. Information regarding changes in CS rate since the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia is limited. We conducted a study comparing CS rate before and during the pandemic, using routinely collected data. Both emergency and elective CS rates increased significantly during the pandemic with emergency CSs increased at a higher rate than elective CSs. Several groups of women experienced large increases in CS rate. Factors associated with and reasons for emergency CSs were different from those for elective CSs. Health services should be prepared to minimise effects of future pandemics on CS rate. To be most effective, interventions to reduce non-medically justified CSs should focus on women who are from South Asia, obese, admitted to a small hospital, and are nulliparous. Periodontal disease during pregnancy affects maternal oral health and increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, studies on the risk factors for periodontal disease and its impact on oral health-related quality of life in pregnant women in Taiwan are lacking. This present study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with periodontal disease during pregnancy and examine the relationship of periodontal disease with oral health-related quality of life among pregnant women. This study was conducted in a large medical centre in northern Taiwan. Eighty-four participants completed a periodontal examination by dentists as well as structured questionnaires, including the Oral Health Impact Profile-14, demographics, obstetric history, dietary habits, and oral hygiene behaviours. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the risk factors associated with periodontal disease and a t-test was used to compare the difference in oral health-related quality of life between pregnant women with and without periodontal disease. Fifty participants (59.5%) had periodontal diseases. Risk factors for periodontal disease included eating out for lunch, consuming beverages, brushing less than three times per day, and not receiving regular professional dental cleanings. The oral health-related quality of life was significantly poorer in pregnant women with periodontal disease than in those without. The risk factors for periodontal disease, including eating out for lunch, drinking beverages, brushing teeth less, and not regular dental cleaning, provide convincing evidence for pregnant women to maintain good oral hygiene to prevent periodontal disease and improve oral health-related quality of life. Pregnancy can cause poor mouth health. Expectant mothers with gum disease might face problems such as low birth weight and premature birth. This study found that certain factors can worsen gum disease during pregnancy. These include eating out for lunch, drinking sugary or acidic drinks, brushing their teeth less than three daily, and skipping regular teeth cleaning by a dentist. Pregnant women with gum disease also reported a lower quality of life related to oral health compared to those without it. Healthcare providers should educate pregnant women about oral health maintenance. The aim of this study was to examine the stress, anxiety, intolerance of uncertainty, and psychological well-being of pregnant women with and without threatened miscarriage. This is a case-control study. The research was carried out between January 2022 and March 2022 in the early pregnancy service and obstetrics clinic of the only training and research hospital in a province in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey. Two hundred and one pregnant women with threatened miscarriage constituted the study group and 201 pregnant women without threatened miscarriage constituted the control group. A total of 402 pregnant women were included in the study. Stress, anxiety, and intolerance of uncertainty were found to be important risk factors affecting the psychological well-being of pregnant women with threatened miscarriage at a rate of 52% (F = 63,196, p < 0.001). In addition, the pregnant women with threatened miscarriage had higher levels of stress, anxiety, and intolerance of uncertainty, and their psychological well-being was considerably lower compared to pregnant women without threatened miscarriage (p < 0.05). There was a moderate and negative relationship between psychological well-being and intolerance of uncertainty (p < 0.05). It was determined that stress, anxiety, and uncertainty of pregnant women with threatened miscarriage were considerably higher compared to controls, and their psychological well-being was adversely affected. Health professionals should evaluate the levels of anxiety, stress, intolerance of uncertainty, and psychological well-being of pregnant women, especially in the routine follow-up of pregnant women with threatened miscarriage, and they should provide holistic care, not only physiologically but also bio-psychosocially. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common health problems in pregnant women. The aim of this case-control study was to evaluate the effects of GDM on LUTS in pregnant women. This study was conducted with 44 pregnant women diagnosed with GDM and 44 pregnant without GDM. Patients with GDM had significantly lower likelihood of experiencing urgency (7.069-fold lower likelihood); whereas they had significantly greater likelihoods for urinary incontinence (UI) during sexual intercourse (OR: 0.185; 5.4-fold higher), need for clothing change due to UI (OR: 0.268; 3.7-fold higher), and adverse effects on daily life due to UI (OR: 0.338; 2.9-fold higher) compared to women without GDM (p <.05 for all). Although pregnant women with GDM appear to have a lower likelihood of urgency, this may be associated with the adverse effects of GDM since the likelihoods for UI-related outcomes were increased and quality of life was reduced among pregnant women with GDM compared to those without GDM. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation and predictive value of serum miR-146b-5p expression during the first trimester of pregnancy with pre-eclampsia (PE). In total, 32 normal pregnant women (the control group) and 58 subjects with PE were randomly selected from eligible case data. The serum levels of miR-146b-5p, pregnancy associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) and free beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (free β-hCG) were then detected. Next, we established predictive models of single or multiple markers for PE. The levels of miR-146b-5p in the mild pre-eclampsia (mPE) and severe pre-eclampsia (sPE) groups were higher than the control group and there were significant differences between the three groups (F = 3.424, P = 0.037). The statistical results of the model before and after 200 times 10-fold cross-validation were as follows: miR-146b-5p (AUC = 0.723 vs AUC = 0.710); miR-146b-5p + BMI + MAP + free β-hCG MoM + PAPP-A MoM (AUC = 0.929 vs AUC = 0.851). We found that expression levels of miR-146b-5p in the first trimester were significantly higher in the serum of pregnant women with PE than in the normal pregnancy group. A prediction model in combination with miR-146b-5p and other markers improved the early predictive value for PE. What is already known on this subject? The published literature shows that a balanced vaginal microbiota can have a favourable impact on decreasing the prevalence of premature rupture of membranes (PROM). We studied the effects of vaginal probiotics (Lactobacillus rhamnosus and L. gasseri) on the outcomes of PROM in pregnant women between 24 and 36 weeks of gestation. We performed a randomised, triple-blind, placebo-controlled study. A total of 27 participants were divided into two groups—group 1 (probiotics; n = 16) and group 2 (placebo; n = 11). Although most outcomes did not show much variation, the latency period and gestational age at delivery were higher in group 1 than in group 2. Thus, vaginal use of L. rhamnosus and L. gasseri along with standard treatment appears to increase the latency period and gestational age at delivery in women with PROM. Delaying delivery increases the risk of infections, but the prolongation of pregnancy allows further foetal maturation, thus reducing the risk of complications associated with premature birth. Few studies on the prediction of skin to subarachnoid space depth (SSD) in African parturients undergoing caesarean delivery are available. We undertook a prospective observational study of 402 parturients scheduled for elective caesarean delivery to determine simple and clinically applicable formulae for predicting skin to SSD. Additionally, the impact of patient characteristics and variables such as age, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and body surface area on SSD was studied. We employed a Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression Model to predict SSD in normal weight, overweight, and obese parturients using previously described formulae and compared our derived SSDs to these previous formulae for concordance. (Craig, Abe, Stocker, Chong's modified, Prakash, Ma, Hazarika, Taman and Celik). Mean SSD was 6.62 ± 1.07 cm in the overall population. SSD in normal weight patients was (6.19 ± 0.92 cm), overweight (6.44 ± 0.92 cm) and obese (6.97 ± 1.17 cm). There was a correlation between SSD and BMI (p = 0.001). Formulae for predicting SSD in the overall population, normal weight, overweight and obese parturients were 4.34 + weight × 0.03, 4.43 + weight × 0.03, 4.54 + weight × 0.03 and 3.56 + weight × 0.03, respectively. We also found the Prakash formula to correlate best with our observed SSD. We concluded that SSD correlated well with weight in the overall parturient population and that Prakash's formula was the most accurate of the other previously described formulae in predicting SSD in this subset of African parturients. Preeclampsia (PE), affecting 5–8% of pregnancies, is a common pregnancy disease that has harmful effects on mother and foetus. It has been found that the STOX1 (Storkhead Box 1), which is a transcription factor, carries variants associated with PE. Previous studies showed that, there was a strong relationship between PE and STOX1 variants. Therefore, we hypothesised that variants in the promoter region of the gene may be related to the onset of PE. The aim of this study is to investigate the contribution of STOX1 gene promoter region variants to PE. The blood samples taken from 118 PE patients and 96 healthy pregnant women were analysed by Sanger sequencing method. Sequence analysis results showed that, there is a-922 T > C polymorphism (rs884181) in the promoter region of the STOX1 gene. This polymorphism was found to be statistically significant in individuals with early onset PE (p = 0.02) and in PE (p = 0.014) compared to the control group. What is already known on this subject? As a result of whole-exon studies on the STOX1 gene, polymorphisms were found to disrupt the structure/expression/function of the gene and strengthen its relationship with PE and HELLP syndrome. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine pregnant women's knowledge and attitudes regarding coronavirus vaccines in Turkiye. The research population consisted of 400 pregnant women who applied to a public hospital in this city. The data of the study was collected with the 'Personal Information Form' and 'Attitudes Towards COVID-19 Vaccine Scale'. Only 2% of the pregnant women stated that they wanted to receive coronavirus vaccines in their current pregnancy and 9.5% wanted it during the postpartum period. It has been concluded that the vast majority of pregnant women have insufficient knowledge and negative thoughts about coronavirus vaccines and the place where they live and their thoughts on the safety of coronavirus vaccines affect their positive attitudes about coronavirus vaccines. What is already known on this subject? Many epidemics in history have been controlled or eliminated with vaccines. However, there is still insufficient evidence about the effects of coronavirus infection and vaccines on pregnant women. What do the results of this study add? As a result, it was found that the vast majority of pregnant women had insufficient knowledge and negative thoughts about coronavirus vaccines and very few of them wanted to receive the coronavirus vaccine during pregnancy and the postpartum period. The aim of this study was to compare the depressive symptoms during pregnancy between pregnant women aged over 35 years and those aged less than 35 years and to evaluate the protective effect of social support in early pregnancy against prenatal depressive symptoms. One hundred and seventy one women aged over 35 years and 342 trimester-matched women aged less than 35 years were included from a level III hospital in Shenzhen, China. The self-report Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used to evaluate prenatal depression and social support in early pregnancy. The proportions of women aged over 35 years who screened positive for prenatal depression were 22.8%, 23.4%, and 24.0% in the first, second and third trimesters, respectively. Advanced maternal age (≥35 years) was a positive predictor of prenatal depressive symptoms (β = 0.747, P = 0,008). Social support, especially objective support (β = -0.030, P = 0.002) and subjective support (β = -0.028, P = 0.006) in early pregnancy, had stronger protective effects against prenatal depressive symptoms for women aged over 35 years than younger women. Our findings support that older pregnant women experience more depressive symptoms than younger pregnant women, and social support could serve as a targeted intervention to decrease prenatal depressive symptoms. Morbid obesity and prolonged pregnancy are independently associated with adverse delivery and perinatal outcomes. We conducted a retrospective observational study on otherwise uncomplicated women with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 40 kg/m2 where, having reached term, induction of labour (IOL) was planned, to prevent prolonged pregnancy. The primary aim was to describe delivery outcomes and short-term maternal and perinatal adverse events. Of 117 cases included, 69 (59%) laboured spontaneously before the induction date, while 48 (41%) required an IOL. Of 48 patients that underwent an IOL, 22 (45.8%) achieved vaginal delivery, compared to 55 (79.7%) who laboured spontaneously (p = <.001). Twenty-two (18.8%) of the 117 babies weighed more than 4000 g, with 13 of these delivered vaginally. Overall, term patients with morbid obesity who laboured spontaneously before requiring induction, had a high rate of vaginal delivery. However, when IOL was required, the rate of caesarean delivery rose dramatically. What is already known on this subject? There is a rising concern with increasing rates of pharmacologically induced labour and its complications. Membrane sweeping is a simple and less invasive means of initiating spontaneous labour onset. We compared the safety and efficacy of membrane sweeping. A total of 186 women (62 in each arm) were recruited at the antenatal clinic at 39 weeks. The intervention groups had membrane sweeping once and twice weekly respectively while the control arm had no membrane sweeping. They were all monitored and followed up till delivery. The trial was registered with the South Africa registry (PACTR202112841108933) The incidence of prolonged pregnancy was 32.3%, 19.4% and 11.7% among the control, once-weekly, and twice-weekly groups respectively. The sweeping to the delivery interval was significantly shorter for the twice-weekly group (7.4 days) compared to once weekly (8.8 days) and the control group (10.6 days). There were significantly higher odds of spontaneous labour onset in the twice-weekly group (HR 1.53, p =.029) compared to the control group (HR 0.65, p =.033) and the once-weekly group using once weekly as reference. Membrane sweeping is a safe and effective means of preventing prolonged pregnancy. Twice-weekly sweeping of foetal membranes is more effective than once-weekly or no sweeping without added adverse feto-maternal outcomes. What is already known about the subject? There is no evidence supporting any increase in maternal or foetal morbidity suggesting that membrane sweeping is a safe procedure to offer to all low-risk pregnant women so as to initiate spontaneous labour onset. This cross-sectional study of antenatal clinic attendees aimed to determine the proportions of pregnant women that consider different alcoholic beverages safe for their babies; and the proportions that took them in the index pregnancy. Five hundred and six women completed the questionnaires. Mean age was 30.07 ± 5.13 years. Mean parity was 1.44 ± 1.32. 478 (94.5%) were married. Three hundred and eighty-three (75.69%) had tertiary education. These proportions did not consider these alcoholic beverages harmful in pregnancy: palm wine 35.77%, stout 17.03%, beer 14.03%, alcoholic wine 13.83%, ogogoro (distilled fermented palm wine) 13.04% and gin/spirits 9.88%. The proportion that consumed different alcoholic beverages during pregnancy were: palm wine 17.20%, beer 5.33%, alcoholic wine 4.35%, stout 4.15%, ogogoro 1.58% and gin/spirits 0.59%. Pregnant women who considered various alcoholic beverages safe in pregnancy were significantly more likely to consume them during pregnancy. Healthcare providers should assess women's perception of the safety of different alcoholic beverages and offer counselling to discourage their consumption during pregnancy. What is already known on this subject? Babies exposed to alcohol in pregnancy are at increased risk of developing foetal alcohol spectrum disorders. No safe level of alcohol has been established for pregnancy. The level of alcohol consumption by pregnant women is still high in our practice environment. What do the results of this study add? The perception that a specific alcoholic beverage is safe and not harmful to the foetus, significantly increases the likelihood of the consumption of that alcoholic beverage by a pregnant woman. This research was carried out to examine the effect of childbirth-related Internet use by pregnant women on fear of childbirth (FOC). The descriptive study was conducted with 350 pregnant women who applied to the Outpatient Polyclinic of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Of the pregnant women who used the Internet, 72.9% did so to research information about childbirth. The pregnant women used the Internet mostly to obtain information about coping with labour pain (43.4%), the delivery process (46.9%), the needs list at delivery (39.4%), about C-section/epidural analgesia for labour (26.8%), and about the environment of the delivery room (25.7%). It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference (p <.05) between the delivery-related video viewing status of the pregnant women, the mean score of the W-DEQ Version A (p <.05), and the FOC was lower in those who watched videos about delivery. What is already known on this subject? Previous studies have shown that pregnant women frequently use the Internet as a source of information about childbirth. What do the results of this study add? The findings of this study reveal that watching videos and listening to or reading the narrations significantly affected the FOC. The aim of the study is to investigate the prevalence of state and trait probable clinical anxiety and their relationship with socio-demographic factors, attitude-behaviour, coping styles and social support level in high-risk pregnant women in the late period of COVID-19 pandemic. The pregnant women followed up in the gynaecological outpatient clinic were evaluated during their admissions. About 191 healthy pregnant women were included in the study. Data were collected using the socio-demographic and pregnancy attitude-behaviour data form, STAI (Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory), the Coping Styles Scale Brief Form (Brief-COPE) and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS). Our study found that pregnant women had high anxiety levels (STAI-S:37.90 ± 8.88; STAI-T:42.46 ± 7.80) and probable clinical anxiety prevalences (STAI-S:81(42.4%); STAI-T:123(64.4%)) in the late period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that COVID-19 determined the preference of the birth method and the level of knowledge about COVID-19 predicted state probable clinical anxiety. Educational status, concern for COVID-19 transmission to the baby during pregnancy/birth, behavioural disengagement, focussing on and venting emotions predicted trait probable clinical anxiety. Our results have emphasised the factors that should be taken into account and coping styles that may be functional to protect the mental well-being of healthy pregnants. What is already known on this subject? The COVID-19 pandemic has been shown to increase the symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression of the general population and healthcare workers. Zonulin is a novel biomarker of intestinal permeability. The existing data suggest that upregulation of zonulin might be linked to systemic inflammation and pregnancy complications. A systematic search was performed in medical electronic databases to identify eligible studies that reported circulating zonulin levels in complicated pregnancies compared to controls. Eight studies with 1196 serum samples of pregnant women were included in the systematic review. Meta-analysis on four studies revealed a significant increase in serum zonulin in women with Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) compared to healthy controls (Cohen's d = 2.06; 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.15, 3.98). By pooling four studies that investigated zonulin levels in Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), higher zonulin concentrations were found in cases, while the difference was not significant (Cohen's d = 0.86; 95% CI: −0.04, 1.75). Current evidence suggests that higher levels of zonulin during pregnancy seem to be associated with inflammation-related complications, including GDM and HDP. What is already known on this subject? We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate changes in serum zonulin levels in pregnancies complicated with Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP). According to our results, zonulin levels were significantly higher in complicated pregnancies than in normal pregnancies, particularly for GDM. What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? Our findings revealed a probable association between increased zonulin levels and inflammation-related complications during pregnancy. Moreover, zonulin could serve as a reliable diagnostic clinical biomarker to identify (or predict) complications during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) occurs due to the inability to adapt to physiologically observed changes in carbohydrate metabolism during pregnancy. Neudesin is a multi-functional secreted protein suggested to have a crucial regulator role in energy and carbohydrate metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate maternal serum and umbilical cord neudesin levels in pregnancies with GDM. Twenty-four singleton pregnancies with GDM were compared with gestational age-matched 23 uncomplicated pregnancies in this cross-sectional study. In comparison to the control group, significantly higher maternal serum and umbilical cord neudesin levels were observed in pregnancies with GDM (p <.001). Maternal serum and umbilical cord neudesin levels were also significantly positively correlated with maternal serum insulin levels and HOMA-IR values in the study group (p <.001). Neudesin, with its regulator role in carbohydrate metabolism, may be a contributing factor in the pathophysiology of GDM and may be a target of strategies for the prevention and treatment of GDM. What is already known on this subject? Progressive changes in carbohydrate metabolism occur in normal pregnancy to provide continuous nutritional supply to the developing foetus and pregnant woman. The aim of this study was to determine the anti-vaccination thoughts of pregnant women and the reasons for not getting vaccinated. In this study, data was obtained by retrospectively scanning the cross-sectional and qualitative studies published in the databases of 'PubMed, Cochrane, EBSCOhost, ULAKBİM and Google Scholar' in Turkish and English languages between 2011-2021. The PRISMA method was used in the preparation of the systematic review. In the studies reviewed, it was determined that the rate of pregnant women who were against the vaccine ranged from 6.2% to 98.6%, and the opinions of pregnant women against vaccination and the reasons for not getting vaccinated are presented under seven themes. The results of the study were considered important in terms of showing that quality and important studies were carried out in the literature on the subject and that the data were presented. What is already known on this subject? Today, with the global coronavirus pandemic, vaccines and their effects are on the agenda again. Especially in pregnant women, opposition to vaccination and not getting vaccinated have emerged for various reasons. What do the results of this study add? The anti-vaccine thoughts of the pregnant women and the reasons for not getting vaccinated were mostly as follows: insufficient level of knowledge, mistrust of vaccines, perception of low infection risk, misconceptions and beliefs about the safety, content, side effects and efficacy of vaccines, worry and fear about the side effects of vaccines, the thought that the vaccine will harm herself and the baby, causes arising from healthcare professionals, financial, temporal and logistical barriers. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) and clinical data in predicting gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Clinical data of 318 pregnant women with GDM and 200 healthy pregnant women were retrospectively analysed. The age, BMI and caesarean section in GDM were significantly higher than in normal group. Serum and placental levels of PAPP-A were significantly lower in GDM than in normal group. Pearson's correlation analysis showed that serum levels of PAPP-A were negatively correlated with BMI and blood glucose level. Binary logistic regression analysis displayed that PAPP-A were the potential factors influencing GDM. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for PAPP-A combined with BMI in predicting GDM was 0.941, significantly higher than that of the single one. The potential of PAPP-A in the first trimester is limited in predicting GDM. PAPP-A combined with BMI is highly conductive for predicting GDM. What is already known on this subject? GDM not only increases the risk of perinatal morbidity, but also results in an increased risk of long-term sequelae for both mother and child including diabetes, cardiovascular disease obesity. Previous data indicate that besides glycemic control in the second trimester, interventions initiated early in pregnancy can reduce the rate of GDM in pregnant women. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed in English and Chinese databases since its inception to August 2020 to assess the incidence, causes and severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) at various stages of pregnancy, maternal and foetal mortality. A total of 154 articles representing 4034 patients with AP during pregnancy in China were included for the analysis. The incidence of AP during pregnancy was 0.0469 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.0349; 0.0627) in the first trimester, whereas it was 0.2518 (95% CI, 0.2210; 0.2854) and 0.6323 (95% CI, 0.5870; 0.6753) in the second and third trimester, respectively. The major causes of AP were hypertriglyceridaemia (0.351 [95% CI, 0.3202; 0.3834]) and biliary pancreatitis (0.424 [95% CI, 0.4094; 0.5002]). The severity of AP was mild in majority of the patients. The incidence of AP at maternal mortality was 0.0184 (95% CI, 0.0126; 0.0269) and foetal mortality was 0.1018 (95% CI, 0.0867; 0.1192). Our meta-analysis revealed that hypertriglyceridaemia and biliary pancreatitis remain the major causes of AP during pregnancy. Foetal mortality requires further investigation. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of fear of childbirth (FOC) and associated factors including vaginismus in pregnant women with high/severe FOC. In the study, 407 women who were at 24–40 weeks of gestation were included. The Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire Version A (WDEQA), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and vaginismus sub-scale of the Golombok Rust inventory of sexual satisfaction (GRISS) were used. 186 (46%) participants had high/severe FOC. Pregnant women with high/severe FOC had a significantly higher fear of pain during sexual intercourse, higher scores in the WDEQA, BDI, BAI, and vaginismus sub-scale of GRISS. Depression and anxiety level, educational level, access to information on delivery during pregnancy, presence of medical disease, and expression of FOC were predictors of high/severe FOC. Assessment of FOC and associated risk factors, including vaginismus, during pregnancy, will enable the identification of risk groups and the creation of support programmes. A total of 179 normal full-term pregnant women and their newborns were randomly selected. Umbilical venous blood was extracted after the delivery, and the serum level of 25(OH)D3 was measured. Forty 2 days, 3 months, 6 months, and one year after the birth to be asked about the occurrence and development of infant eczema. Thirteen cases were lost to follow-up. The median concentration of 25(OH)D3 in the cord blood was 25.40 ng/mL. Thirty eight cases (22.9%) were vitamin D deficient (<20 ng/mL), 77 cases (46.4%) were vitamin D insufficient (20–30 ng/mL), and 51 cases (30.7%) were vitamin D sufficient (≥30 ng/mL). The incidence of eczema in the umbilical cord blood vitamin D sufficient group was lower than that in the deficient and insufficient groups (p <.05). Sufficient umbilical cord blood vitamin D levels are associated with a lower incidence of eczema in infants up to one year of age. What is already known on this subject? A number of studies have suggested that vitamin D levels in early life are related to the occurrence of allergic diseases, but the conclusions are not uniform. What do the results of this study add? The rate of sufficient umbilical cord blood vitamin D was low in the Songjiang area of Shanghai. At present, the dose of vitamin D for pregnant women at home and abroad is not consistent, so the specific dose of vitamin D for pregnant women to maintain the foetus needs further discussion.
