8. Rotational Spectrum of theAxialForm and Conformational Equilibrium in Chlorocyclobutane

Abstract

The microwave spectrum of chlorocyclobutane has been investigated in the 26–40 GHz frequency range. The spectrum of theaxialconformer has been assigned for the first time, while measurements of theequatorialspecies and of several of its vibrational satellites have been extended. The shifts of the rotational constants with respect to the ground state, the available far infrared transitions, together with the relative intensities and the dipole moments of the conformers, have been used to obtain the shape of the potential energy function hindering the ring-puckering.

Abstract

The ground state ring puckering splitting of the cyclopentane ring of indan has been precisely determined (Delta E-01 = 22.364(1) MHz) by measuring the very weak mu(c)-type transitions with pulse jet Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. In addition, the rotational spectra of all C-13 monosubstituted isotopologues have been assigned and measured in natural abundance, leading to an accurate structure of the heavy atoms frame.
