Objective To evaluate the feasibility and clinical value of fetal left modified myocardial performance index (Mod-MPI) in assessment and management of prenatal twin anemia polycythemia sequence (TAPS). Methods We retrospectively reviewed fetuses with TAPS diagnosed prenatally between 2015 and 2019 at Asan Medical Center. Doppler ultrasound evaluation including the peak systolic velocity (PSV) of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) and fetal echocardiography including left Mod-MPI were evaluated and followed up after antenatal management. Results Among 10 cases of fetal twin pregnancies with prenatal TAPS, six were spontaneous and four were post-laser TAPS. Left Mod-MPI was abnormal in one or both twins of nine cases (90%) including all post-laser TAPS (n = 4) and 83.3% of spontaneous TAPS (n = 5). Three recipients, one donor and three former recipients/new donors had elevated left Mod-MPI values, and one donor, one recipient, two former donors/new recipients had decreased values. Antenatal intervention was performed in eight cases with intrauterine transfusion (n = 4), fetoscopic laser surgery (n = 2), radiofrequency ablation (n = 1), and intrauterine transfusion followed by radiofrequency ablation (n = 1). The remaining two cases were either delivered or managed expectantly. MCA-PSV and left Mod-MPI became normal on the follow-up scans in all cases except the delivered case. There were four fetal deaths: two occurred spontaneously and two were selectively terminated by radiofrequency ablation. Overall perinatal survival per fetus was 80% (16/20) and the median gestational age at delivery was 34.4 (range, 29.2–37.4) weeks. Neither postnatal death nor neurodevelopmental delay occurred during a median follow-up of 13 months (range, 0.25–60 months). Conclusion Fetal left Mod-MPI was useful for assessment of compromised fetal cardiac function in cases with prenatal TAPS. Preeclampsia increases the risk of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity both during pregnancy and long term after the labor by causing cardiac changes that may lead to atrial and ventricular arrhythmias. We aimed to investigate noninvasive predictors of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and cardiac structural changes in preeclampsia. The study included 34 preeclampsia patients as the study group and 33 healthy pregnant women as the control group. The presence of fragmented QRS morphology, P dispersion, QT dispersion, Tp-e/QTc ratio, inter- and intra-atrial electromechanical delay, left ventricular mass index was evaluated in the groups by 12 lead- ECG and standard and tissue Doppler echocardiography. Left ventricular mass index and relative wall thickness, and E/Em ratio was significantly higher in preeclampsia. Inter- and intra-atrial electromechanical delay and Tp-e were prolonged, and P dispersion, QT dispersion, and Tp-e/QTc ratio were increased significantly in patients with preeclampsia. In addition, fragmented QRS morphology was seen in 76.5% of patients with preeclampsia while it was present in only 27.3% of the control group (p <.001). Preeclampsia causes significant cardiac structural and electrocardiographic alterations that may increase the risk of atrial and/or ventricular arrhythmias. Background and Objective: Limited number of studies evaluated cardiac diastolic function in neonates with perinatal asphyxia using tissue Doppler imaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate the echocardiographic parameters in full-term neonates with perinatal asphyxia compared to healthy full-term neonates. Diagnostic value of echocardiographic parameters of diastolic dysfunction in predicting mortality in asphyxiated neonates was assessed.Setting: Neonatal intensive care unit at the Obstetric and Gynecology Hospital, Cairo University, Egypt (a tertiary care center).Patients and Methods: This study included 20 neonates with perinatal asphyxia (cases) and 20 healthy full-term nonasphyxiated neonates (as controls). The studied groups were assessed by conventional pulsed wave Doppler and tissue Doppler imaging.Results: Among pulsed wave Doppler parameters, cases had statistically significant lower values (denoting more diastolic dysfunction) than controls as regards mitral E velocity (p = .04) and mitral E/A ratio (p = .04). Similarly, among tissue Doppler parameters, cases had statistically significant lower values (denoting more diastolic dysfunction) than controls as regards septal E'/A' ratio (p = .019), left ventricular E' velocity (p = .001), and E'/A' ratio (p < .001). Septal E'/A' ratio and right ventricular E'/A' ratio were significantly lower (p = .012 and p = .025, respectively) among nonsurvivors (denoting more diastolic dysfunction) compared to survivors. Moreover, cases had statistically significant higher values (denoting more diastolic dysfunction) than controls as regards septal (p < .001), left ventricular (p < .001), and right ventricular (p < .001) tissue Doppler-based myocardial performance indices. Asphyxiated neonates showed statistically significant higher evidence of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction than controls in both pulsed wave Doppler and tissue Doppler with p < .001 and p = .001, respectively; while there was no difference as regards right ventricular diastolic dysfunction. Tissue Doppler was able to detect higher number of neonates with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction than conventional pulsed wave Doppler.Conclusions: Tissue Doppler imaging was found to be able to detect diastolic dysfunction early in neonates with perinatal asphyxia specifically as regards the left ventricle. Assessment of myocardial function is important in asphyxiated neonates. Tissue Doppler imaging should be considered an integral part of assessment of cardiac function in asphyxiated neonates. Introduction: Use of corticosteroids for fetal lung maturation has reduced the perinatal mortality/morbidity from prematurity related complications. There is a paucity of studies evaluating the effect of steroid administration on the fetal circulation and cardiac function in fetal growth restriction (FGR). The aim of the study was to assess changes in fetal Doppler indices and cardiovascular function in pregnancies complicated with FGR after administration of betamethasone.Methods: This was a prospective study conducted in a tertiary care research center between July 2017 and May 2018. Pregnant women with FGR between 28 and 36 weeks' gestation, who were scheduled to receive betamethasone (two doses of 12 mg, 24 h apart) were recruited. Fetal cardiovascular function in fetuses FGR was assessed immediately before first dose and once between 6 and 24 h after the second dose of betamethasone by the same operator. Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test or paired t-tests were used to compare parameters before and after corticosteroid exposure.Results: Fifty cases with FGR were evaluated before and after administration of betamethasone, at mean gestational age of 34.6 ± 2.0 weeks. Fetal heart rate (148.78 ± 9.10 versus 144.73 ± 9.61, p < .001), left heart myocardial performance index ([MPI], 0.66 ± 0.06 versus 0.55 ± 0.09, p ≤ .001) and right heart MPI (0.65 ± 0.04 versus 0.63 ± 0.04, p .016) showed improvement after steroids. Left heart isovolumic relaxation and contraction indices along with ejection time of both sides showed a small but statistically significant improvement (p < .001), but other fetal cardiac functional and Doppler indices remain unchanged after steroids.Conclusions: Fetal heart rate, cardiac MPI, left sided isovolumic indices showed an improvement after betamethasone administration. Introduction: Severe fetal anemia may cause cardiac ischemia, reduced contractility, and dysfunction. The purpose of our study is to evaluate right ventricular myocardial performance index (MPI) before and after intrauterine transfusion (IUT) in patients who underwent this procedure because of fetal anemia due to Rh-D alloimmunization.Materials and Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted between January 2018 and June 2019 at Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Research and Training Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey. The pregnant women who were applied IUT because of fetal anemia due to Rh-D alloimmunization in our perinatology clinic were included in the study. Fetal right ventricular MPI before and 24 h after IUT were evaluated.Results: A total of 28 IUTs were performed in 17 pregnant women during the study period. The isovolumetric contraction time (ICT) and isovolumetric relaxation time (IRT) values measured before IUT, were found to be significantly longer compared to the ICT and IRT values measured after IUT. The MPI values measured after transfusion was found to be higher than before transfusion.Conclusions: The fetal right ventricular MPI increases 24 h after IUT. Objective: To establish reference ranges for the fetal left ventricle (LV) modified myocardial performance index (Mod-MPI), respective time periods, and right and left atrioventricular peak velocities between 20 and 36 + 6 weeks of gestation.Methods: This cross-sectional study evaluated 360 low-risk singleton pregnancies between 20 and 36 + 6 weeks of gestation. The LV Mod-MPI was calculated as (isovolumetric contraction time + isovolumetric relaxation time)/ejection time. Polynomial regression was used to obtain the best-fit using Mod-MPI and atrioventricular peak velocity measurements and gestational age (GA) with adjustments using the coefficient of determination (R2). The intra- and interobserver reliability was evaluated using the concordance correlation coefficient (CCC).Results: LV Mod-MPI (R2 = 0.026, p = .002) and isovolumetric relaxation time (IRT) (R2 = 0.036, p < .001) significantly increased with advancing GA. Isovolumetric contraction time (ICT) and ejection time (ET) did not significantly change with GA. RV and LV E wave, A wave, and E/A ratio significantly increased with GA (p < .001). The mean of each parameter ranged as follows: LV Mod-MPI (0.44-0.47 s), IRT (0.041-0.045 s), ICT (0.032-0.034 s), ET (0.167-0.167 s), RV E (30.2-46.91 cm/s), RV A (47.1-60.7 cm/s), RV E/A (0.65-0.78 cm/s), LV E (27.0-41.4 cm/s), LV A (43.2-53.8 cm/s), and LV E/A (0.63-0.78 cm/s). Only LV A wave measurements demonstrated an intraobserver CCC >0.80. The remaining intra- and interobserver reproducibility parameters demonstrated lower CCC.Conclusions: Reference values were replicated for the fetal LV Mod-MPI and LV and RV transvalvular peak velocities between 20 and 36 + 6 weeks of gestation. Objective: To investigate the association between fetal left ventricular modified myocardial performance index (LMPI) and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) and to evaluate the value of LMPI in predicting adverse perinatal outcomes in ICP.Study design: In a cross-sectional case-control study, 40 women with ICP were compared with 40 gestational age-matched healthy controls. The isovolumetric contraction time (ICT), isovolumetric relaxation time (IRT), and ejection time (ET) were measured using the Doppler signals of the opening and closing of the mitral and aortic valves. LMPI was calculated as (ICT + IRT)/ET. An adverse perinatal outcome was defined with at least one of the following: non-reassuring fetal heart rate tracing, umbilical cord pH <7.20, the presence of meconium in amnion, and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission.Results: Mean gestational age at delivery and mean birth weight were significantly lower and the incidences of cesarean section rate, non-reassuring fetal heart rate tracing, the presence of meconium in amnion, and NICU admission were significantly higher in the ICP group (p < .01). Mean LMPI, ICT, and IRT values were significantly higher in the ICP group (p < .01). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for LMPI in prediction of adverse perinatal outcome was 0.740 (95% CI: 0.607-0.873, p = .001) and a cut-off LMPI of 0.41 conferred a sensitivity of 85% and a specificity of 61%.Conclusions: There is an impaired global ventricular function in ICP fetuses demonstrated by increased LMPI. Aim: To evaluate the relationship between polyhydramnios severity and alterations in Doppler indices and perinatal outcomes in idiopathic polyhydramnios.Methods: This prospective case control study was conducted in a tertiary hospital with 173 singleton pregnancies between 29 and 41 weeks gestational age between May 2015 and December 2016. Polyhydroamnios is classified as mild (amniotic fluid index 25-30 cm), moderate (30.1-35 cm), and severe (>35 cm) and the number of the patients in mild, moderate, and severe groups were 55, 39, and 26, respectively. The results were compared with 53 healthy controls. Fetal echocardiography and Doppler measurements of the groups were made and the perinatal outcomes from each group were noted. The relationship between the results and the severity of polyhydramnios was analyzed statistically.Results: The myocardial performance index was significantly higher in the fetuses of women with severe polyhydramnios compared to the other groups (p = .006). There were statistically significant differences among the groups in terms of first and fifth minutes according to the Apgar scores (p = .011, p = .016 respectively). In the severe polyhydramnios group compared with other groups, the middle cerebral artery pulstatility index was significantly lower (p = .002), while middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity and umbilical artery pulstatility index values were significantly higher (p = .0001, p = .045).Conclusions: Our study showed an increase in myocardial performance index and middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity values and a decrease in middle cerebral artery pulstatility index values, especially in the severe idiopathic polyhydramnios group. Idiopathic polyhydramnios were associated with low first and fifth minute Apgar score. Additionally, the increase in umbilical artery pulstatility index value and the decrease in middle cerebral artery pulstatility index value became more apparent with the increase in amniotic fluid volume. Objective: To compare the fetal modified myocardial performance index (Mod-MPI) in appropriately grown, early (EO) and late onset (LO) fetal growth restricted (FGR) fetuses and to assess its prognostic significance for adverse perinatal outcome.Study design: In a prospective case-control study, Mod-MPI was performed in 22 and 51 fetuses with EO and LO-FGR fetuses, respectively. Mod-MPI values of FGR fetuses were compared against gestation-matched controls (34 for EO-, and 32 for LO-FGR, respectively). Correlation testing related with poor perinatal outcomes were performed.Results: Incidences of pathologic uterine artery Doppler rate, cesarean section rate, 5-min Apgar score < 7, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and perinatal mortality were significantly higher in the EO-FGR group (p < .001). There was a decrease in Mod-MPI with gestational age in the normal (Pearson's r = 0.401, p < .001), and growth-restricted fetuses (Pearson's r = 0.248, p = .034). Mean Mod-MPI values were significantly higher in both EO- and LO-FGR group than gestation-matched controls (p < .001). There was no significant correlation between Mod-MPI values and perinatal deaths (Pearson's r = 0.004, p = .987) and 5-min Apgar score < 7 (Pearson's r = 0.391, p = .088) in the EO-FGR fetuses. There was a significant negative correlation between Mod-MPI values and cerebroplacental ratio (CPR) values (Pearson's r = -0.288, p = .041); however no significant correlation between Mod-MPI values and 5-min Apgar score< 7, and fetal distress during labor (Pearson's r = 0.149, p = 0.297) in the LO-FGR fetuses was noted.Conclusion: EO and LO-FGR fetuses have significantly higher Mod-MPI values, demonstrating prenatal cardiac dysfunction. Background: Approximately 30% of babies born in India are low birth weight (LBW) and about 70% of LBW babies are small for gestational age (SGA). Though there are several trials that have evaluated cardiac function of intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) babies in utero, there is limited data about postnatal cardiac function in SGA babies during early neonatal period. This study was conducted to evaluate the cardiac functions of SGA babies by serial echocardiographic measurements and compare this with appropriate for gestational age (AGA) babies during the early postnatal period.Material and Methods: Seventy babies were enrolled in this prospective observational study with 35 each in the SGA and AGA groups. Echocardiography was performed for all babies on days 1, 2, and 3 of life. Myocardial performance index (MPI) was used as the primary measure to compare cardiac function. MPI was calculated for both ventricles using pulse wave Doppler and tissue Doppler.Results: MPI of the left ventricle was significantly higher in the SGA group as compared to AGA babies during all the three measurement periods with SGA babies having significantly higher MPI of right ventricle on day 1 and day 2 but not on day 3. Left ventricular internal diameter index during diastole and systole (LVIDD index and LVIDS index), left atrium: aortic root ratio (LA:AO ratio) were significantly increased in SGA babies on all the occasions. Fractional shortening, ejection fraction, and area shortening were similar in two groups.Conclusions: Myocardial performance index of left and right ventricle, which evaluates both systolic and diastolic function of ventricles, was significantly increased in SGA babies in comparison to AGA babies during the first 3 days of life except MPI of the right ventricle on day 3. Aims: Assess clinical utility of the foetal Myocardial Performance Index (MPI) in evaluation and management of monochorionic, diamniotic twin (MCDA) pregnancies. Methods: Prospective cohort of (a) initially uncomplicated MCDA (b) Complicated MCDA, including twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR), and liquor and/or growth discordance (L/GD) not meeting TTTS or sIUGR criteria. TTTS and sIUGR were case-control matched. Routine Dopplers and MPI were taken and correlated to diagnosis and final outcome. Results: Twenty-six always uncomplicated pairs, 51 always complicated pairs, and seven uncomplicated to pathological pairs were included. TTTS recipient (n = 25) left and right MPI and intertwin difference (ITD) were significantly elevated, however, were already elevated in Stage I (n = 10), and did not predict progression or pregnancy outcome. sIUGR MPI (n = 11) did not differ significantly from control. Of 15-L/GD pairs, two that progressed to TTTS had significantly higher left and right MPI values in the future recipient (0.61 and 0.72) versus future sIUGR larger twins (0.48 and 0.51) or stable L/GD (0.47 and 0.52): p < .01 for all comparisons. Conclusions: In this cohort, MPI did not add substantial diagnostic/prognostic information to current routine evaluation in established TTTS or sIUGR though potentially differentiated L/GD cases progressing to TTTS. Objective: To evaluate whether the left myocardial performance index (MPI) changes in association with the fetal heart rate (FHR) tracing during labor. Study design: Women with term, singleton pregnancies, in labor were recruited to this prospective cohort study. Primary outcome: difference in left MPI between Category of fetal heart rate tracings. Secondary outcomes: differences in left MPI by FHR characteristics. Participants underwent ultrasound examination, during which fetal MPI was measured. Results: Twenty-four laboring patients were recruited. There were 13 patients with Category I FHR, 11 patients with Category II FHR, and 0 patients with Category III FHR. Demographics were similar between the groups. MPI was not significantly different between fetuses with Category I or Category II FHR (0.67 versus 0.65, p = .385). MPI was significantly higher in fetuses with accelerations versus those without (0.71 versus 0.59, p = .045). MPI was not significantly different for fetuses with or without decelerations (0.65 versus 0.68, p = .350), between deceleration type (0.50 versus 0.64 versus, 0.75, p = .421), or between variability type (0.56 versus 0.68, p = .113). Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate if the myocardial performance index (MPI) is altered in fetuses in women with gestational impaired glucose tolerance (GIGT), controlled on diet and whether this parameter is also predictive of adverse outcome in this group, as in poorly controlled gestational diabetes.Methods: In a prospective cross-sectional study, 32 women with GIGT on diet in the 3rd trimester were recruited and matched with 32 women with normal pregnancies (control group). Using Doppler echocardiography, the MPI was calculated. Placental resistance Doppler markers in both groups were also determined. An abnormal outcome was defined as any of the following: stillbirth, neonatal death, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admissions, tachypnea with pulmonary oedema, neonatal cord pH <7.15, five minute Apgar score <7, and cardiomyopathy.Results: The cases had a significantly higher median MPI compared to controls, p value <.0001. There were eight abnormal outcomes recorded in the 32 fetuses in the study group, corresponding to an adverse outcome rate of 25%. Fetuses with an adverse outcome had significantly higher MPI measurements compared to the GIGT fetuses with normal outcome. The MPI served as an excellent predictor of adverse outcome in the GIGT fetuses, with a total area under the ROC curve of 0.96. An MPI z-score greater than 4.0 conferred a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 80%. No abnormal outcomes were noted in the control group.Conclusions: The MPI is impaired in fetuses in GIGT women, with fetuses with an adverse outcome having significantly higher MPI measurements compared to the fetuses with normal outcome in the GIGT group. Objective: To investigate fetal left ventricular function using the left ventricular modified myocardial performance index (mod-MPI) and E wave/A wave peak velocity (E/A) ratio, and to explore the success of mod-MPI in the prediction of adverse perinatal outcomes in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP).Methods: Forty-one ICP cases were compared with 41 gestational age-matched healthy controls. Opening and closing clicks of the mitral and aortic valves were used to define the three time periods [ejection time (ET), isovolumetric contraction time (ICT) and isovolumetric relaxation time (IRT)], which were employed in the calculation of mod-MPI [mod-MPI = (ICT + IRT)/ET]. The E/A ratio was calculated as well.Results: Fetal left ventricular mod-MPI values were significantly higher in the ICP group compared to controls (0.56 ± 0.09 versus 0.37 ± 0.04, p < 0.001), whereas the E/A ratio was lower (0.62 ± 0.11 versus 0.69 ± 0.10, p = 0.011). The optimal cutoff level for mod-MPI in prediction of adverse perinatal outcomes was >0.48 [sensitivity: 81.8%, specificity: 67.6%, area under the curve (AUC): 0.750, 95% CI: 0.613-0.887, p = 0.008].Conclusions: Fetuses of ICP cases have significant left ventricular dysfunction. Objective: To validate the efficacy of laser therapy for twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) in the treatment of recipient twin cardiomyopathy and investigate whether severity of preoperative cardiomyopathy can predict fetal survival postoperatively.Study Design: Retrospective study of monochorionic-diamniotic (MCDA) pregnancies complicated by TTTS treated by selective fetoscopic laser photocoagulation (SFLP) performed between March 2010 and October 2014 at a single center. The recipient right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) myocardial performance index (MPI) were measured both pre- and postoperatively. The data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon signed rank and parametric t-tests.Results: Forty-three women met inclusion criteria during the study period. There was a substantial improvement in recipient LV (0.57 ± 0.13 versus 0.43 ± 0.13, p ≤ 0.0001) and RV (0.60 ± 0.16 versus 0.49 ± 0.18, p ≤ 0.0001) MPI postoperatively (median = 8 days). Recipient preoperative LV and RV MPI did not correlate with recipient or donor survival at 24 hours, 7 days or at birth. Thirty-seven recipients (95%) showed improvement in either LV or RV MPI and 22 (56%) showed complete resolution of cardiac dysfunction.Conclusion: Laser treatment for TTTS causes rapid improvement in the cardiac function of recipient fetuses. Recipient preoperative LV and RV MPI did not correlate with recipient or donor survival at 24 hours, 7 days or at birth. Thirty-seven recipients (95%) showed improvement in either LV or RV MPI and 22 (56%) showed complete resolution of cardiac dysfunction.Conclusion: Laser treatment for TTTS causes rapid improvement in the cardiac function of recipient fetuses. Objective: To investigate the changes in fetal left ventricle myocardial performance index (MPI) following intrauterine intravascular transfusion (IUT). Methods: Prospective study, including 25 IUT performed in 13 singleton pregnancies with maternal Rh D alloimmune disease. Left ventricle MPI was evaluated prior to transfusion and repeated 24 h after each procedure. Delta MPI was calculated as the difference between post- and pre-transfusion MPIz-scores. Multilevel regression analysis was used to examine the association between delta MPI and gestational age at procedure, fetal middle cerebral artery peak velocity MoM, pre- and post-MPI and hemoglobinz-score values, the volume of blood transfused and feto-placental volume percentage expansion. Adjustments were made for repeated measurements within the same fetus, and across different time points. The significance level was set as 0.05. Results: MPIz-score values increased significantly following transfusion (delta MPI = 1.10 ± 2.47,p=0.036). Delta MPI showed a significant correlation with gestational age at transfusion (r= −0.47,p=0.018), pre-transfusion MPIz-score (r= −0.50,p=0.012) and feto-placental volume percentage expansion (r= −0.41,p=0.044). Conclusion: Left ventricle MPI increases significantly after intrauterine blood transfusion and greater changes are associated with procedures at an earlier gestational age, lower pre-transfusion MPIz-scores and smaller feto-placental volume expansion. Objective: To compare cardiac function between fetuses with and without intracardiac echogenic foci (IEFs) by conventional echocardiography and tissue Doppler (TD) imaging. Methods: Fetuses having IEF and no additional cardiac or extracardiac anomaly between 20 and 28 weeks (median 22 weeks) of gestation ( n = 61) were compared with healthy fetuses between 18 and 29 weeks (median 23 weeks) of gestation ( n = 55). Pulmonary artery and aortic peak velocities, atrioventricular (AV) early diastole (E) and atrial contraction (A) velocities and E/A ratios were measured. TD-derived myocardial performance index (MPI) was also measured. Results: Tricuspid valve E/A ratios, which were 0.634 ± 0.07 versus 0.639 ± 0.06 ( p = 0.697), mitral valve E/A ratios, which were 0.604 ± 0.08 versus 0.612 ± 0.07 ( p = 0.600), aorta peak velocities, which were 0.709 ± 0.11 versus 0.697 ± 0.11 ( p = 0.592) and pulmonary artery peak velocities, which were 0.699 ± 0.12 versus 0.694 ± 0.11 ( p = 0.800) in the study and the control groups, respectively. TD-derived measurements in the study and control groups included tricuspid valve MPI, which were 0.452 ± 0.08 versus 0.473 ± 0.09 ( p = 0.221) and mitral valve MPI values, which were 0.444 ± 0.1 versus 0.445 ± 0.09 ( p = 0.965), respectively, and this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: An isolated IEF is not associated with abnormal cardiac function. We suggest that the presence of an isolated IEF should not be an indication for fetal cardiac function examination either with conventional Doppler or TD imaging techniques, unless there is a coexisting cardiac or extracardiac anomaly.
