The rapid development of smart electronics devices has stimulated intensive research on flexible supercapacitors with high mechanical tolerance and energy density. Up to date, most of the asymmetric devices are fabricated using carbon-based materials as negative electrode materials. However, the lower capacitance of carbon-based materials limited its applicability widely. Also, the device unavoidably carries unnecessary mass and volume, leads to poor contact and performance to repeated bending of devices, and occupies more space in the electronics devices. Herein, we prepared flexible, light-weight, and thin graphite paper current collectors to fabricate flexible supercapacitors. Further, the titanium oxynitride (TiOxNy) coatings were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering over a flexible and light-weight graphite substrate as a potential negative electrode. The presence of nitrogen content in transition metal oxynitrides adds wettability to the material; hence more electrolyte ions get adsorps onto the surface of the electrode owing to their hydrophilic nature. The resultant TiOxNy/graphite electrode exhibited a high areal capacitance of 62 mF cm−2 and also showed 100% capacitance retention even after 1500 GCD cycles. The results of a series of tests indicated that the flexible electrode has better capacitive performance, suggesting that as-prepared film is a favorable candidate for light-weight and flexible supercapacitors. published

Nitric oxide(NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and their derivatives generally known as nitrogen oxides (NOx) are primary pollutants in the atmosphere originated from natural and anthropogenic sources. The paper presents investigation of electric performance of novel chemiresistor NOx gas sensors. A novel material was utilized for active sensing layer-conductive copolymer and zinc oxide blend. The main advantage of the presented solution is low-cost and environment-friendly production. A series of this type of sensors was manufactured and tested experimentally. During the tests, the gas flow was controlled and signals of sensor responses, temperature, and humidity were computer-acquired using LabVIEW program. Sensor behavior for different thicknesses of the active layer has been investigated and interpreted. The research revealed that the electrical resistance of the sensors has changed in predictable manner depending on the gas concentrations. A recurrent artificial neural network architecture is proposed as a mathematical model to classify sensor responses to gas concentrations variation in a time-dependent regime. In this research, an enhanced method for gas concentration prediction is proposed using non-linear autoregression model with exogenous input (NARX). The performed simulations show good agreement between simulated and experimental data useful for predictions of sensor gas response.

The present paper focuses on the properties of the p–Si/ ZnSxSe1−x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) heterojunctions in photodetector applications. The heterostructures were fabricated by depositing ZnSSe on Si wafer using the thermal co-evaporation technique with ZnS and ZnSe powders. The GIXRD study showed that films were in cubic phase, and the prominent peak was shifted with composition x. The maximum crystallite size of the films was found for x = 0.8. The presence of point defects and emission related to higher Zn content in the thin films was confirmed by Photoluminescence. Temperature-dependent Raman analysis reveals that the longitudinal optical phonon modes shift to the lower wavenumber side as temperature decreases, which describes the variation of lattice parameters with temperature. The barrier height and ideality factor were calculated by implementing the thermionic emission. The photoresponse of p–Si/ ZnSxSe1−x heterostructures was studied. The investigation showed that the sample with x = 0.8 exhibits high photosensitivity and is suitable for photodetector applications.

This paper investigates the impact of different matching layers on the ultrasonic transducers’ performance. Matching layers are mostly used to solve the acoustic impedance matching problem between the piezoelectric element and the test specimen. To design good matching layers, we merged the metal–polymer and mass–spring systems. Their thickness was also optimized using the quarter-wavelength approach. Silver, alumina, and copper served as mass components, while parylene served as the polymer spring component. This was the first time to use such matching materials with lead zirconate titanate (PZT) transducers. The transducers’ sensitivity increased, the beam diameter broadened, the signal-to-noise ratio reduced, and the echo-height increased. According to the findings, the developed matching layers were extremely efficient in upgrading PZT transducers, making them ideal for a variety of non-destructive ultrasonic applications such as identifying defects in various materials. In addition, the new developed transducers may be useful in calibration.
