Maxillary haemangioma is a rare entity. It presents with a painless, slow-growing swelling and if it involves the paranasal sinuses it may present with severe epistaxis, mimicking a malignancy. A case of haemangioma arising in the bony maxilla and causing a cosmetic problem is presented here.

Haemangioma of the thyroid gland is extremely rare. We report a case of a cavernous haemangioma of the neck that was located both inside and outside the thyroid gland of a 21-year-old man. Ultrasonography of the neck revealed numerous calcified nodules. Computed tomography (CT) showed a large calcified soft tissue mass in the right lobe of the thyroid. Based on the imaging findings a papillary thyroid carcinoma was suspected, but examination of the surgical specimen revealed a huge cavernous haemangioma containing numerous phleboliths.

A patient with a four-week history of hypaesthesia and recurrent swelling of the cheek in the left infraorbital region presented with a computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrating an expansion in the infraorbital nerve canal, thought to be a neuroma. The tumour was surgically removed without complications and no bleeding. Histopathological investigation showed a partially thrombosed cavernous haemangioma. To our knowledge, after reviewing the literature, this is the first report of a cavernous haemangioma in the infraorbital nerve canal.

Facial nerve haemangiomas are probably the most frequent benign tumours involving the facial nerve in its intratemporal portion. Usually facial nerve dysfunction is present when these tumours are of extremely small size, the average tumour being less than 10 mm. We present a case of a 15 mm diameter cavernous haemangioma of the geniculate region, with histological findings of nerve infiltration, without facial nerve symptoms. The atypical clinical presentation justifies the report and subsequent literature review.

Cowden's disease is a rare predominantly inherited disease, characterized by mucocutaneous lesions, gastrointestinal polyposis and benign or malignant thyroid and breast tumours. The report deals with a typical case of this disease with emphasis on its importance for otolaryngologists.

A report of a case with a vascular malformation of the internal auditory canal (IAC) is presented. A review of the literature of this rather rare lesion is also made in an attempt to outline its clinical features, radiological diagnosis and management. The differential diagnosis and distinction between vascular malformations and other internal auditory canal tumours are discussed.

Cavernous haemangiomata occur quite commonly, but one situated in the hypopharynx which contains as many as 240 phleboliths, as reported here, is a rare curiosity. The clinical manifestations, angiographic findings and the operative procedure of this case are described with a brief review of the formation of phleboliths in cavernous haemangiomas.

Hemangiomas of the temporal bone are uncommon benign tumours, occurring most frequently at two sites: the internal auditory meatus (IAM) and the geniculate ganglion. In this paper the authors discuss the pathology, clinical onset and features, and the therapeutic management of two of these lesions. A review of the literature is also presented, paying attention to the controversy regarding the origin, pathogenesis and histologic classification of this rare lesion of the temporal bone.

A rare case of emergency parotidectomy in a boy of 12, necessitated by a sudden, rapid and marked increase in size of a parotid hemangioma is describe. The literature dealing with parotid hemangiomas in adults is reviewed; the number of cases reported is small. The histological differences and the natural history of parotid hemangioma in adults and in infants are described. The therapeutic approach is discussed.

We report our experience of seven cases suffering from capillaro-venous malformation localized in the head and neck area, treated preoperatively by a fibrosing agent--ETHIBLOC. Four of the cases are presented and analysed. We suggest the pre-operative injection of Ethibloc as the treatment of choice for capillaro-venous malformations in the head and neck region.

A case of haemangioma of the nasal bones is recorded. A search of the world literature has revealed 17 previously reported cases. The clinical and radiological features are reviewed and the aetiology and differential diagnosis discussed. Primary surgery is the treatment of choice and the prognosis is excellent.
