We serendipitously designed one novel 1D hetero-binuclear Zn(II)-Pb(II) coordination polymer, namely [(Zn)(Pb)(L)(η1–NCS)(η1–SCN)]n (1) from Salen ligand (H3L) in the presence of NaSCN. The complex was structurally characterized by elemental, IR, Raman, NMR spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Powder X-ray diffraction, and Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). The heteronuclear complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4. The asymmetric unit contains one deprotonated ligand (L2−). SCXRD comprises metal ions of Zn(II) and Pb(II), fulfilled perfect square bipyramidal and Hemi-directed coordination spheres. We accomplished DFT by three different level basis set B3LYP, HF, and M062X with Lanl2dz to delineate Frontier molecular orbital, the Global chemical parameters, and the molecular electrostatic potential. Hirshfeld surface carried out non-covalent interactions like hydrogen bonding. This bonding considered the possible supramolecular topographies due to the flexible aliphatic –OH group. Besides H/H, C/H/H/C and N/H/H/N also dominated the supramolecular network. Van der Waals interactions appear to be more prevalent in the molecular packaging of the complex. Molecular docking finds the plausible binding process by implanting the complex into the active site of the crystal structures of estrogen receptor protein, the VEGFR kinase (liver cancer) protein, and the allosteric Eya2 phosphatase inhibitor (lung cancer) protein. The essential binding process is the polar and hydrophobic exchanges, π–π interaction, hydrogen bonds, and halogen. Advanced Protein–Ligand Interaction Profiler crucially examined the interplay of the protein with complex. A two-dimensional (2D) barium(II) coordination polymer [Ba(H2O)(µ-H2O)(µ-Cl)(µ-2,3-pyHdc)]n (1) (2,3-pyHdc = pyridinium-2,3-dicarboxylate), was prepared by reaction of barium(II) chloride dihydrate and pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid in aqueous solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and TGA/DTA methods. The single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed that barium(II) ion in 1 has a distorted bicapped square-antiprismatic coordination geometry. The barium(II) ions are alternately bridged by the carboxylate O atoms only and by both carboxylate O atoms and water molecules, forming zig-zag chains of barium(II) ions extending along the [1 0 0] direction. All the barium(II) ions in these chains are also bridged by the chloride ions, resulting in the formation of an infinite 2D coordination network parallel to the (0 0 1) plane. Thermal decomposition of 1 in the presence of polyethylene glycol led to the formation of the BaCl2 nanoparticles. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the structure and morphology of the prepared BaCl2 nanoparticles. Two Cd(II) coordination polymers (CPs), namely {[Cd(L1)(mip)]·0.33H2O}n (1) and {[Cd(L2)(BDC-Cl4)]·1.35H2O}n (2) (H2mip = 5-methylisophthalic acid; L1 = 1,5-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)pentane; H2BDC-Cl4 = tetrachloroterephthalic acid; L2 = 1,2-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl)benzene) were synthesized and characterized. 1 features a 3D pcu network, 2 displays a 2D (4,4) layer. Two new three-dimensional coordination polymers (H2NMe2)[Dy4(µ3−OH)4(NMF)3(H2O)(L1)3](H2O)2 (1, NMF = N-methylformamide, H3L1 = 3,5-bis(4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)phenoxy)benzoic acid) and [Cu(L2)2(H2O)](H2O)2 (2, H2L2 = 4-(4-pyridyl)-isophthalic acid) have been successfully prepared using two N,O-mixed donor organic ligands. The structures of these complexes have been successfully determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition, in vitro antitumor activity of compounds 1 and 2 on four human liver cancer cells (SMMC7721, Bel-7402, MHCC97 and HCCLM3) was further determined and the results show that the two compounds showed promising activity. A novel one-dimensional Cd(II) coordination polymer (CP) based on mixed aromatic ligands was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis and spectroscopic analyses. Fingerprint plots in Hirshfeld surface analysis illustrate that the one-dimensional crystal structure of the CP is stabilized by C-H···O, π···π, C-H···π, and H···H intermolecular interactions. The structural and photophysical properties of the CP were then investigated by time-dependent density functional theory methods, and computational results well reproduced the experimental data. The combined investigations found a ligand-to-ligand charge transfer character during the electrons relax from the first singlet excited state of the CP. The weak fluorescence of CP could be resulted from the energy interlacing of the frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) of aromatic ligands and the fulfilled d configuration of Cd(II). Two coordination polymers (CPs), [Zn(L1)(Hbta)] (1) and [Co(L2)(ndc)]·0.75HO (2), (L1 = 1,6-(thiabendazole)hexane), L2 = 1,3-(thiabendazole)propane, Hbta = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic acid, Hndc = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses reveal that CP 1 and CP 2 feature 1D infinite zigzag and 'Ω'-like chains, and further extend into 3D supramolecular framework by O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonding interactions, respectively. Two new transition metal-based coordination polymers, [Cu(fdc)(dmbpy)(HO)] ( 1) {[Ni(fdc)(bipy)(HO)]·(HO)} ( 2) (fdca = 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid, dmbpy = 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridine, bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) have been synthesized under the same reaction conditions (HO, pH 7-8, and 130 °C) and were structurally characterized. 1 is a ladder chain, whereas 2 shows a 2D (4,4) network. A new coordination polymer of [Mn(SO)( L)·(HO)] was synthesized by the interaction of a big π-conjugated rigid ligand 1,4-bis([1,10]phenanthroline-[5,6-d]imidazol-2-yl)benzene( L) and manganese sulfate, exhibiting a eightfold interpenetrated diamondoid network. A new Cd(II) coordination polymer based on 5-Nitroisophthalic acid (HNIPH) and 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene (mbix), namely, [Cd(NIPH)(mbix)] ( 1), has been successfully synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. Six novel coordination polymers {Co(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 1), {[Ni(4,4′-bipy)(OH)(HO)]·suc·2HO} ( 2), {Ni(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 3), {Zn(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 4), {Cu(HCOO)(4,4′-bipy)} ( 5) and {[Cu(ox)(2,2′-bipy)]·2HO} ( 6) (suc succinic acid, ox oxalic cid) based on pyridine derivatives and carboxylates as ligands were designed and synthesized. The coordination polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and UV-Vis spectra, powder X-ray diffraction, the thermo gravimetric analyses and single-crystal diffraction analysis. The structure analysis showed that the central metal atoms in coordination polymers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 all were six-coordination modes, forming distorted octahedron geometries. Cu atom in the coordination polymer 5 was four-coordination mode, forming square planar coordination geometry. While in the coordination polymers 1, 3 and 4, two metal centers were connected by bridging coordination fashions of formic acid ligand, forming a three-dimensional network structure, and in the coordination polymer 6, the two metal centers were connected by bridging coordination fashions of oxalic acid ligand, forming one-dimensional chain. A new Sr(II) coordination polymer (EMIm)[Sr(1,4-NDC)Br] 1 has been ionothermal synthesized using 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide as solvent and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, XRPD and X-ray crystallography, where 1,4 -HNDC is 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid. Polymer 1 displays a crystalline 3D framework, in which the anions of 1,4-HNDC are embedded in three bridging coordination modes and Sr(II) centers show five coordination geometries. Each dodecanuclear metallocyclic ring segment formed by distorted edge-sharing and face-sharing Sr coordination polyhedra extends out to increase the dimensionality by strontium coordination polyhedra sharing to obtain a rare Sr-based 2D sheet. Organic bridging ligands connect adjacent layers giving rise to a 3D structure and (EMIm) cations acting as extra charge balancing species occupy the channels of the anionic framework. Presented here is a new Cd(II) coordination polymer, namely [Cd(L)(HO)]·n(Hbpp) ( 1 HL = 6-(3′,4′-dicarboxyl-phenoxy) isophthalic acid, bpp = 1,3-di(4-pyridyl)propane), which was synthesized by the solvothermal reactions of Cd(NO)·4HO, HL and bpp. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that compound 1 features a 3D anionic framework with the protonated Hbpp cations as the organic templates. Two novel coordination polymers of [Cd(NIPH)(imH)HO]·nHO (1) and [Cd(NIPH)(imH)(CHCHO)] (2) (HNIPH = 5-nitroisophthalic, imH = 1H-imidazole) were successfully synthesized by controlling the ratio of reaction solvents and characterized by element analysis, FT-IR, TG analysis, single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 exhibits a zigzag-like chain pattern containing mononuclear cadmium building blocks, while complex 2 shows a ladder-like double chain pattern with binuclear cadmium building blocks. Yellow crystals of the coordination polymers (CP) [Ag(qox)NO], 1 [Ag(pyzca)], 2 were obtained by the reaction of AgNO, quinoxaline (qox) or pyrazinecarboxylic acid (pyzcaH), respectively. The crystal structure of 1 displays 1D-extended chain of [Ag(qox)] with NO coordinated to every Ag atom. The 1D-chains of 1 are interconnected by strong hydrogen bonds, π-π stacking and short contacts developing two dimensional sheets containing channels. Furthermore, the overall packing arrangement of 1 results 3D topology with corrugated network. The Ag atom in 2 acquires tetrahedral geometry while each pyzca ligand provides three donor sites connected to three Ag atoms. The structure of CP 2 displays 1D-extended helical chain of [Ag(pyzca)]. Two new mixed-ligand coordination polymers of [Zn(μ-mptrz)(mptrz)(μ-en)] ( 1) and {[Cd(μ-mptrz)(μ-en)Br]·DMSO} ( 2) were prepared from the reaction of 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (Hmptrz) and ethylene diamine (en) with ZnBr and CdBr in CHOH, respectively. Both complexes were characterized by spectral methods (IR, UV-Vis, H NMR and luminescence), elemental analysis, thermal analysis (TG, DTA) and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray structural analysis indicated that the structures of these two compounds are two-dimensional (2D) layer structures. In complex 1, each Zn atom has a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry, and the Zn centers are linked by µ-mptrz to form a linear chain of [Zn(μ-mptrz)(mptrz)] in b-direction, which are further bridged by the en ligands to form a 2D layer network. Two cadmium(II) coordination polymers, [Cd(L)(nda)(HO)·0.75HO] ( 1) and [Cd(L)(tbta)(HO)] ( 2) (L = 1,3-bis-(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, Hnda = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid, Htbta = tetrabromoterephthalic acid), were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Both complexes exhibit 2D (6,3) honeycomb-like structures. Complex 1 is further extended into a twofold interpenetrating 3D 4,4-connected mog supramolecular architecture with point symbol of {4.6.8}{4.6.8} via classical O-H···O hydrogen bonding interactions, while 2 displays a 3D supramolecular framework through π- π stacking interactions. A new silver coordination polymer [Ag(BPTC)] has been synthesized by solvothermal reaction of AgNO and HBPTC. The X-ray crystal structural analysis indicates that 1 is a 2D coordinated framework, which contains argentophilic interactions and Ag-C interactions. Four coordination polymers with the formulas [Zn(L)(NO)] ( 1), {[Zn(L)(NO)]·CHOH} ( 2), [Cd(L)(NO)] ( 3) and [Cd(L)(NO)] ( 4) {HL=2-benzolypyridine-isonicotinoylhydrazone (HBPIH)} have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, FT-IR spectroscopy, H and C NMR and single crystal X-ray data diffraction. The L ligand acts as a negatively charged tetradentae NO-donor in 1- 3 and pentadentate ligand in 4. The Schiff base ligand coordinates to a metal center as NO-donor and coordinates to adjacent metal center via its Para-Nitrogen of pyridlyl group in 1- 3 leading to formation of one-dimensional, 1D, coordination polymer. The oxygen atom of the ligand L also coordinates to the third metal center as a bridging atom in 4 and forms a two-dimensional, 2D, coordination polymer. Metal centers are six coordinated with distorted octahedral geometry in 1- 3 and seven coordinated with pentagonal bipyramid geometry in 4. A new coordination polymer [Pb(ttbt)(1,4-bdoa)]·2nHO ( 1) (1,4-Hbdoa = benzene-1,4-dioxyacetic acid and ttbt = 10,11,12,13-tetrahydro-4,5,9,14-tetraaza-benzo[b]triphenylene) has been obtained under hydrothermal conditions. The structure of polymer 1 has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and further characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra (IR), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and diffuse-reflectance UV-vis spectrum. Polymer 1 displays a one-dimensional chain structure, which is further extended into a two-dimensional layer structure through π-π stacking interactions and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The photoluminescence behavior of polymer 1 was also discussed in paper. Meanwhile, polymer 1 represents good performance for the photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes under UV irradiation. Two one-dimesional (1D) coordination polymers (CPs) [Cu( μ-OAc)( μ-bpt)] ( 1) and [Cu( μ-DMF)( μ-NO)( μ-bpmh)] ( 2) (DMF = N, N-dimethylformamide) based on copper(II) salts and 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (bpt) and 1,2-bis(pyridin-4-ylmethylene)hydrazine (bpmh) have been synthesized under different conditions, respectively; and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analyses, powder X-ray diffraction, fluorescence analysis, fourier transforming infrared and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopies. CP 1 shows an infinite 1D zigzag chain with paddle-wheel shaped [Cu( μ-OAc)] secondary building units (SBUs) and μ-bpt V-shaped dipyridyl ligands. The Cu···Cu distance in the [Cu( μ-OAc)] core is 2.631(18) Å, supporting the Cu···Cu interaction. Cu(II) in CP 2 also adopts five-coordinated mode but in trigonal bipyramidal geometry which is completed by three O atoms from nitrates and DMF and also two N atoms from adjacent bpmh to form an infinite 1D linear chain. Furthermore, the magnetism property of CP 1 was investigated. Its results show that CP 1 indicated antiferromagnetic behavior. In addition, CPs 1 and 2 display fluorescence quenching compared with corresponding free ligands at room temperature. Three mixed-metal nitrilotriacetates [Ba(HO)Co(nta)Cl] ( 1), [Ba(HO)Ni(nta)Cl] ( 2), and [Ba(HO)Cu(nta)Cl] ( 3) (Hnta = nitrilotriacetic acid) were prepared by the reaction of M ions (M = Co, Ni, and Cu), Knta, and Ba ions in water. The reaction of complexes 1 and 2 with CuSO·5HO afforded [Co(HO)][Cu(nta)]·2nHO ( 4) and [Ni(HO)][Cu(nta)]·2nHO ( 5), respectively. The reaction mechanism was elucidated. The crystal structure analyses indicate that the Ba ions formed one-dimensional (1D) zigzag chains in complex 3, and the chains were connected by Cu(nta) anions to form a three-dimensional network. Two coordination polymers, namely, [Ni(L)(CHN)(HO)] ( 1), and [Mn(L)(HO)] ( 2) have been hydro(solvo)thermally synthesized through the reaction of 4-(4-hydroxypyridinium-1-yl)phthalic acid (HL) with divalent nickel and manganese salts. As a result of various coordination modes of the versatile 4-(4-hydroxypyridinium-1-yl)phthalic acid, these compounds exhibit structural diversity. Complex 1 exhibits a 3D coordination framework through the rich hydrogen bond. Complex 2 exhibits a 3D coordination network based on layers. Two new 1D coordination polymers, [Zn(3,3′-bpdc)(2,2′-bpy)] ( 1) and [Cd (3,3′-bpdc)(2,2′-bpy)] ( 2) [3,3′-Hbpdc = 3,3′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid, 2,2′-bpy = 2,2′-bi pyridine], were rationally designed and synthesized with an identical strategy that employed 3,3′-Hbpdc as a bridge and 2,2′-bpy as a terminal ligand. As expected, the 3,3′-bpdc anions bridge Zn and Cd into a 1D zigzag single chain and 1D zigzag double chain, respectively. The 2,2′-bpy ligand serves as terminal components to decorate both sides of the 1D chain, which plays an important role in the self-assembly of the polymeric chain by providing potential supramolecular recognition sites for π-π stacking and C-H···π interactions. As a result, the two different zigzag chains in 1 and 2 are assembled into 2D wave-like layers via π-π stacking interactions. Two one-dimensional Cd(II) coordination polymers constructed by ribbon-like molecules, {[Cd(L)(NO)]·NO} ( 1) (L = 1,3-bis(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazol-1-yl)benzene) and [Cd(L)(NO)] ( 2) (L = 1,3-bis(benzimidazol-1-yl)benzene) have been obtained through assembly of the two structurally similar flexible bis(benzimidazole)-based ligands and cadmium nitrate tetrahydrate. The cadmium(II) centers display different coordination environments with trigonal-bipyramidal geometry in 1, and a octahedral geometry in 2. Weak C-H···O interactions in 1 result in a two-dimensional supramolecular layer; two π-π interactions are present in 2 forming a three-dimensional supramolecular network structure. Nano flowers of a new polymeric lead(II) complex containing the azide anions, [Pb(baea)(N)·(N)] ('baea' is the abbreviation of bis(2-aminoethyl)amine), has been synthesized by a sonochemical method. The new nano-structure was characterized by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, elemental analyses, and IR spectroscopy. Single crystalline material was obtained using a heat gradient applied to a solution of the reagents. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses show that the coordination number for Pb ions is five, PbN5 and hold hemidirected coordination geometry. To the best of our knowledge, the 1D coordination polymer interact with each other via supramolecular and weak Pb···N interactions to create 2D supramolecular frameworks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Two new Co(II) coordination polymers with 5-position substituted 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate and N-donor auxiliary ligands, [Co(5-OH-ip)(L)(HO)] ( 1) and [Co(5-NO-ip)(L)] ( 2) (5-OH-ip = 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid, 5-NO-ip = nitroisophthalic acid, L = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl) benzene and L = 1,4-bis(1-imidazol-yl)-2,5-dimethyl benzene), were synthesized by hydrothermal reactions. Complex 1 shows a 3-fold interpenetrating 3D framework with the topological symbol of (4·6). Complex 2 exhibits a 3D framework with the vertex symbol of (4·6). Nano-structures of a new coordination polymer of divalent Pb with the ligands 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and 4-aminobenzene sulfonic acid (4-abs), [Pb(phen)(4-abs)] ( 1), were synthesized by a sonochemical method that produced a coordination polymer of nanometer size. The new nano-structure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction and IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Compound 1 was structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and showed that the coordination number of the Pb(II) ions is six; i.e. (PbNO). Compound 1 also has a stereochemically active lone pair of electrons and a hemi-directed coordination sphere. The chains interact with each other through π-π stacking to create a 3D framework. The structure of 1 was optimized by density functional theory calculations. The calculated structural parameters and IR spectra of 1 are consistent with the crystal structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reaction of sodium hydroxide with 2-aminoterephthalic acid leads to the formation of a complex of the general formula: [Na(atpt)(HO)]·HO, where atpt = [NHCH(COO)]. Sodium 2-aminoterephthalate was synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and coupled TG-FT-IR technique. Crystallographic study of the sodium complex reveals that the compound crystallizes in the triclinic system, the space group P-1 with a = 7.983(3) Å, b = 8.405(3) Å, c = 11.311(5) Å, α = 70.74(3)°, β = 76.57(3)°, γ = 83.12(3)° and V = 696.1(5) Å. On heating in air atmosphere the compound in question loses all water molecules in two steps in the temperature range 30-205 °C. Two new coordination polymers [Zn(L)(bib)] ( 1) and [Zn(L)(bib)] ( 2) [ L = 5-hydroxyisophthalic acid and bib = 1,4-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl)butane] have been synthesized and characterized. X-ray single crystal diffractions show that complex 1 is a 2D layered structure and complex 2 is a 3D 6-connected topological net. Complex 1 are further assembled into a 3D supramolecular structure by intermolecular hydrogen bonding. Complex 2 features a two-fold interpenetrated pcu topology.
