By extending the method developed by Arav, Gauntlett, Roberts and Rosen, we construct supersymmetric AdS2 × ⅀ solutions of gauged N = 8 supergravity which are asymptotic to the SU(3) × U (1)-invariant Warner fixed point, where ⅀ is a spindle. The Warner fixed point is dual to the mass-deformed ABJM theory. The solutions are in the anti-twist class. We numerically calculate the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the presumed black holes with the AdS2 × ⅀ horizon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Supersymmetric elementary string states in the compactified heterotic string theory are described by small black holes that have zero area event horizon. In this paper we compute the supersymmetric index of such elementary string states using gravitational path integral. The dominant contribution to the path integral comes from an Euclidean rotating black hole solution of the supergravity theory with a finite area event horizon, but the logarithm of the index, computed from the saddle point, vanishes. Nevertheless we show that the solution is singular on certain subspaces of the horizon where higher derivative corrections can be important, and once the higher derivative corrections are taken into account the solution could yield a finite result for the logarithm of the index whose form agrees with the microscopic results up to an overall numerical constant. While the numerical constant is not determined in our analysis, we show that it is independent of the details of the compactification and even the number of non-compact dimensions, in agreement with the microscopic results. We explore the cosmological dynamics of a minimalistic yet generic string-inspired model for multifield dark energy. Adopting a supergravity four-dimensional viewpoint, we motivate the model's structure arising from superstring compactifications involving a chiral superfield and a pure U(1) gauge sector. The chiral sector gives rise to a pair of scalar fields, such as the axio-dilaton, which are kinetically coupled. However, the scalar potential depends on only one of them, further entwined with the vector field through the gauge kinetic function. The model has two anisotropic attractor solutions that, despite a steep potential and thanks to multifield dynamics, could explain the current accelerated expansion of the Universe while satisfying observational constraints on the late-times cosmological anisotropy. Nevertheless, justifying the parameter space allowing for slow roll dynamics together with the correct cosmological parameters, would be challenging within the landscape of string theory. Intriguingly, we find that the vector field, particularly at one of the studied fixed points, plays a crucial role in enabling geodesic trajectories in the scalar field space while realizing slow-roll dynamics with a steep potential. In this work we study interesting corners of the quantum gravity landscape with 8 supercharges pushing the boundaries of our current understanding. Calabi-Yau threefolds compactifications of F/M/type II theories to 6, 5 and 4 dimensions are the most prominent examples of this class, and these always lead to a universal hypermultiplet coming from the volume/string coupling constant. We find new examples of asymmetric orbifold constructions which have no hypermultiplets in 4 or 5 dimensions and no neutral hypers in 6d. We argue that these theories can also be obtained by going to strong coupling/small volume regions of geometric constructions where a new Coulomb branch opens up and moving in this direction freezes the volume/string coupling constant. Interestingly we find that the Kodaira condition encountered in geometric limits of F-theory compactifications to 6 dimensions is violated in these corners of the landscape due to strong quantum corrections. We also construct a theory in 3 dimensions which if it were to arise by toroidal compactifications from 5d, it would have to come from pure N = 1 supergravity with no massless scalar fields. In this note, we study 1/4- and 1/2-BPS co-dimension two superconformal defects in the 6d N = (2, 0) AN−1 SCFT at large N using their holographic descriptions as solutions of 11d supergravity. In this regime, we are able to compute the defect contribution to the sphere entanglement entropy and the change in the stress-energy tensor one-point function due to the presence of the defect using holography. From these quantities, we are then able to unambiguously compute the values for two of the twenty-nine total Weyl anomaly coefficients that characterize 4d conformal defects in six and higher dimensions. We are able to demonstrate the consistency of the supergravity description of the defect theories with the average null energy condition on the field theory side. For each class of defects that we consider, we also show that the A-type Weyl anomaly coefficient is non-negative. Lastly, we uncover and resolve a discrepancy between the on-shell action of the 7d 1/4-BPS domain wall solutions and that of their 11d uplift. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kinetic mixing between gauge fields of different U(1) factors is a well-studied phenomenon in 4d EFT. In string compactifications with U(1)s from sequestered D-brane sectors, kinetic mixing becomes a key target for the UV prediction of a phenomenologically important EFT operator. Surprisingly, in many cases kinetic mixing is absent due to a non-trivial cancellation. In particular, D3-D3 kinetic mixing in type-IIB vanishes while D3-anti-D3 mixing does not. This follows both from exact CFT calculations on tori as well as from a leading-order 10d supergravity analysis, where the key cancellation is between the C2 and B2 contribution. We take the latter approach, which is the only one available in realistic Calabi-Yau settings, to a higher level of precision by including sub-leading terms of the brane action and allowing for non-vanishing C0. The exact cancellation persists, which we argue to be the result of self-duality. We note that a B2C2 term on the D3-brane, which is often missing in the recent literature, is essential to obtain the correct zero result. Finally, allowing for -breaking fluxes, kinetic mixing between D3-branes arises at a volume-suppressed level. We provide basic explicit formulae, both for kinetic as well as magnetic mixing, leaving the study of phenomenologically relevant, more complex situations for the future. In this paper we study the simplifying effects of supersymmetry on celestial OPEs at both tree and loop level. We find at tree level that theories with unbroken supersymmetry around a stable vacuum have celestial soft current algebras satisfying the Jacobi identity, and we show at one loop that celestial OPEs in these theories have no double poles. The landscape of six-dimensional supergravities is dramatically constrained by the cancellation of gauge and gravitational anomalies, but the full extent of its implications has not been uncovered. We explore the cancellation of global anomalies of the Dai-Freed type in this setting with abelian and simply laced gauge groups, finding novel constraints. In particular, we exclude arbitrarily large abelian charges in an infinite family of theories for certain types of quadratic refinements, including a specific one defined in the literature. We also show that the Gepner orientifold with no tensor multiplets is anomaly-free for a different choice, as well as a number of heterotic models with and without spacetime supersymmetry in six dimensions. We show that the bosonic sector of the N = (1, 0), 6D Salam-Sezgin gauged supergravity model possesses a T-duality symmetry upon a circle reduction to D = 5. We then construct a simple magnetic rotating string solution with two equal angular momenta. Applying the T-duality transformation to this solution, we obtain the general boosted rotating dyonic black string solutions whose global structures and thermodynamic quantities are also analyzed. Owing to the fact that the solutions are not asymptotically flat, we find that there are two distinct globally-different non-extremal solutions with two different sets of thermal dynamic variables, with both satisfying the thermodynamic first law and the corresponding Small relations. However, their BPS limit becomes the same and we show that it preserves one quarter of supersymmetry by directly solving the corresponding Killing spinor equations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the aim of investigating the existence of an integrable elliptic deformation of strings on AdS3 × S3 × T4, we compute the tree-level worldsheet S-matrix of the elliptically-deformed bosonic sigma model on AdS3 × S3 in uniform light-cone gauge. The resulting tree-level S-matrix is compatible with the integrability of the model and has interesting features, including a hidden U(1) symmetry not manifest in the Lagrangian. We find that it cannot be embedded in the known exact integrable R-matrices describing deformations of the undeformed AdS3 × S3 × T4 light-cone gauge S-matrix including fermions. Therefore, we construct embeddings of the deformed 6-d metric in type II supergravity with constant dilaton and homogeneous fluxes. We set up a unified framework to efficiently compute the shear and bulk viscosities of strongly coupled gauge theories with gravitational holographic duals involving higher derivative corrections. We consider both Weyl4 corrections, encoding the finite 't Hooft coupling corrections of the boundary theory, and Riemann2 corrections, responsible for non-equal central charges c ≠ a of the theory at the ultraviolet fixed point. Our expressions for the viscosities in higher derivative holographic models are extracted from a radially conserved current and depend only on the horizon data. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We provide a first principles derivation of the supersymmetric Casimir energy of N = 1 SCFTs in four dimensions using the supercharge algebra on general conformal supergravity backgrounds that admit Killing spinors. The superconformal Ward identities imply that there exists a continuous family of conserved R-currents on supersymmetric backgrounds, as well as a continuous family of conserved currents for each conformal Killing vector. These continuous families interpolate between the consistent and covariant R-current and energy-momentum tensor. The resulting Casimir energy, therefore, depends on two continuous parameters corresponding to the choice of conserved currents used to define the energy and R-charge. This ambiguity is in addition to any possible scheme dependence due to local terms in the effective action. As an application, we evaluate the general expression for the supersymmetric Casimir energy we obtain on a family of backgrounds with the cylinder topology ℝ × S3 and admitting a single Majorana supercharge. Our result is a direct consequence of the supersymmetry algebra, yet it resembles more known expressions for the non-supersymmetric Casimir energy on such backgrounds and differs from the supersymmetric Casimir energy obtained from the zero temperature limit of supersymmetric partition functions. We study the logarithmic corrections to various CFT partition functions in the context of the AdS4/CFT3 correspondence for theories arising on the worldvolume of M2-branes. We utilize four-dimensional gauged supergravity and heat kernel methods and present general expressions for the logarithmic corrections to the gravitational on-shell action and black hole entropy for a number of different supergravity backgrounds. We outline several subtle features of these calculations and contrast them with a similar analysis of logarithmic corrections performed directly in the eleven-dimensional uplift of a given four-dimensional supergravity background. We find results consistent with AdS/CFT provided that the infinite sum over KK modes on the internal space is regularized in a specific manner. This analysis leads to an explicit expression for the logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of large Kerr-Newmann and Reissner-Nordström black holes in AdS4. Our results also have important implications for effective field theory coupled to gravity in AdS4 and for the existence of scale-separated AdS4 vacua in string theory, which come in the form of new constraints on the field content and mass spectrum of matter fields. We continue the holographic exploration of the conformal manifold of 3d N = 2 S-fold SCFTs constructed by gauging the flavor symmetry of the Gaiotto-Witten T[U(N)] theory. We show how to uplift the two-parameter family of AdS4 vacua dual to this conformal manifold to 10d backgrounds of type IIB supergravity. We use these uplifted solutions to shed new light on the mysterious nature of the infinite distance limit on the conformal manifold and to study probe strings and D3-branes. This analysis uncovers an intriguing structure of the S3 partition function of the S-fold SCFTs which resembles the giant graviton expansion of the superconformal index of 4d N = 4 SYM. We also show how to each member of the family of supersymmetric AdS4 vacua one can associate a consistent truncation to 4d N = 2 gauged supergravity and use this result, in conjunction with holography, to calculate the large N partition function of the 3d S-fold SCFT on compact Euclidean manifolds. Finally, we generalize the supersymmetric AdS4 vacua to a four-parameter family of non-supersymmetric AdS4 solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A non geometric sector of the duality group emerging in Kaluza-Klein reductions is realized as an effective symmetry in the low energy action of uncompactified type II theories. Spectral flow in two-dimensional superconformal field theories is known to correspond to a geometrical mixing between two circles in the gravity dual. We generalize this operation to the geometries which have SO(k+1)×SO(k+1) isometries with k > 1 and perform various non-abelian T-dualities of the resulting twisted backgrounds. Combination of non-abelian twists and dualities leads to a new solution generating technique in supergravity, and we apply it to the geometries dual to supersymmetric states in = 4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We analyse the STU sectors of the four-dimensional maximal gauged supergravities with gauge groups SO(8), SO(6) ⋉ ℝ12 and [SO(6) × SO(2)] ⋉ ℝ12, and construct new domain-wall black-hole solutions in D = 4. The consistent Kaluza-Klein embedding of these theories is obtained using the techniques of Exceptional Field Theory combined with the 4d tensor hierarchies, and their respective uplifts into D = 11 and type IIB supergravities are connected through singular limits that relate the different gaugings. In this work we present new solutions of type IIB supergravity based on wrapped D5 branes. We propose that two of these backgrounds are holographically dual to Quantum Field Theories that confine. The high energy regime of the field theories is that of a Little String Theory. We study various observables (Wilson and 't Hooft loops, Entanglement entropy, density of degrees of freedom and the spectrum of spin-two glueballs, among others). The Emergent String Conjecture of Lee, Lerche, and Weigand holds that every infinite-distance limit in the moduli space of a quantum gravity represents either a decompactification limit or an emergent string limit in some duality frame. Within the context of 5d supergravities coming from M-theory compactifications on Calabi-Yau threefolds, we find evidence for this conjecture by studying (a) the gauge couplings and (b) the BPS spectrum, which is encoded in the Gopakumar-Vafa invariants of the threefold. In the process, we disuss a testable geometric consequence of the Emergent String Conjecture, and we verify that it is satisfied in all complete intersection Calabi-Yau threefolds in products of projective spaces (CICYs). Supertubes are supersymmetric configurations in string theory in which branes are extending along a closed curve. For a supertube of codimension two, its dipole charge is characterized by the duality monodromy around the closed curve. When multiple codimension-2 supertubes are present, the monodromies around different supertubes can be non-commuting, namely non-Abelian. Non-Abelian configurations of supertubes are expected to play an important role in non-perturbative physics of string theory, especially black holes. In this paper, in the framework of five-dimensional supergravity, we construct exact solutions describing codimension-2 supertubes in three-dimensional space. We use an extension formula to construct a three-dimensional solution from a two-dimensional seed solution. The two-dimensional seed is an F-theory like configuration in which a torus is nontrivially fibered over a complex plane. In the first example, there is a stack of circular supertubes around which there is a non-trivial monodromy. In some cases this can be thought of as a microstate of a black hole in AdS2 × S2. The second example is an axi-symmetric solution with two stacks of circular supertubes with non-Abelian monodromies. In addition, there is a continuous distribution of charges on the symmetry axis. We consider type IIB string theory on an AdS5 × S5/ℤ2 orbifold background, which should be dual to 4d N = 2 superconformal SU(N) × SU(N) gauge theory with two bi-fundamental hypermultiplets. The correlator of two chiral BPS operators from the twisted sector of this quiver CFT exhibits non-trivial dependence on the 't Hooft coupling λ already in the planar limit. This dependence was recently determined using localisation and the expansion at large λ contains a subleading contribution proportional to ζ(3)λ−3/2. We address the question of how to reproduce this correction on the string theory side by starting with the ζ(3)α′3 term in the type IIB string effective action. We find a regular solution of type IIB supergravity which represents a resolution of the AdS5 × S5/ℤ2 orbifold and demonstrate that the relevant light twisted sector states may be identified as additional supergravity 2-form modes "wrapping" a finite 2-cycle in the resolution space. Reproducing the structure of the gauge theory result becomes more transparent in the large R-charge or BMN-like limit in which the resolved background takes a pp-wave form with the transverse space being a product of ℝ4 and the Eguchi-Hanson space. Higher-derivative corrections in the AdS/CFT correspondence allow us to capture finer details of the dual CFT and to explore the holographic dictionary beyond the infinite N and strong coupling limits. Following an effective field theory approach, we investigate extremal AdS black hole solutions in five-dimensional supergravity with higher-derivative corrections. We provide a general analysis of near-horizon geometries of rotating extremal black holes and show how to obtain their corresponding charges and chemical potentials. We discuss the near-horizon solutions of the two-derivative theory, which we write using a novel parametrization that eases our computation of the higher-derivative corrections. The charges and thermodynamic properties of the black hole are computed while clarifying the ambiguities in their definitions. The charges and potentials turn out to satisfy a near-horizon version of the first law of thermodynamics whose interpretation we make clear. We ask the question of classical super (non-)Abelian T-duality for BTZ black hole metric coupling to two fermionic fields. Our approach is based on super Poisson-Lie (PL) T-duality in the presence of spectator fields. In order to study the Abelian T-duality of the metric we dualize over the Abelian Lie supergroups of the types (1|2) and (2|2), in such a way that it is shown that both original and dual backgrounds of the models are conformally invariant up to one-loop order in the presence of field strength. Then, we study the non-Abelian T-duality of the BTZ vacuum metric coupling to two fermionic fields. The dualizing is performed on some non-Abelian Lie supergroups of the type (2|2), in such a way that we are dealing with semi-Abelian superdoubles which are non-isomorphic as Lie superalgebras in each of the models. In the non-Abelian T-duality case, it is interesting to mention that the models can be conformally invariant up to one-loop order in both cases of the absence and presence of field strength. In addition, starting from the decomposition of semi-Abelian Drinfeld superdoubles generated by some of the C 3 ⨁ A 1,1 Lie superbialgebras we study the super PL T-plurality of the BTZ vacuum metric coupled to two fermionic fields. However, our findings are interesting in themselves, but at a constructive level, can prompt many new insights into supergravity and manifestly have interesting mathematical relationships with double field theory. We develop a superspace formulation for N = 3 conformal supergravity in four spacetime dimensions as a gauge theory of the superconformal group SU(2, 2|3). Upon imposing certain covariant constraints, the algebra of conformally covariant derivatives ∇ A = ∇ a ∇ α i ∇ i α ⋅ is shown to be determined in terms of a single primary chiral spinor superfield, the super-Weyl spinor Wα of dimension +1/2 and its conjugate. Associated with Wα is its primary descendant Bij of dimension +2, the super-Bach tensor, which determines the equation of motion for conformal supergravity. As an application of this construction, we present two different but equivalent action principles for N = 3 conformal supergravity. We describe the model for linearised N = 3 conformal supergravity in an arbitrary conformally flat background and demonstrate that it possesses U(1) duality invariance. Additionally, upon degauging certain local symmetries, our superspace geometry is shown to reduce to the U(3) superspace constructed by Howe more than four decades ago. Further degauging proves to lead to a new superspace formalism, called SU(3) superspace, which can also be used to describe N = 3 conformal supergravity. Our conformal superspace setting opens up the possibility to formulate the dynamics of the off-shell N = 3 super Yang-Mills theory coupled to conformal supergravity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study the invariance of N = 1, d = 4 supergravity solutions under diffeormophisms and show that, in order to obtain consistent conditions ("Killing equations") invariant under local supersymmetry transformations, one has to perform supersymmetry transformations generated by the superpartner of the vector that generates standard diffeomorphisms, just as a superspace analysis indicates. Using these transformations, we construct a Noether-Wald charge of N = 1, d = 4 supergravity with fermionic contributions which is diff- Lorentz- and supersymmetry-invariant (up to a total derivative). The Molien-Weyl integral formula and the Hilbert-Poincaré series have proven to be powerful mathematical tools in relation to gauge theories, allowing to count the number of gauge invariant operators. In this paper we show that these methods can also be employed to construct Free Differential Algebras and, therefore, reproduce the associated pure supergravity spectrum and nonperturbative objects. Using a recently developed formulation of double field theory in superspace, the graviton, B-field, gravitini, dilatini, and Ramond-Ramond bispinor are encoded in a single generalized supervielbein. Duality transformations are encoded as orthosymplectic transformations, extending the bosonic O(D, D) duality group, and these act on all constituents of the supervielbein in an easily computable way. We first review conventional non-abelian T-duality in the Green-Schwarz superstring and describe the dual geometries in the language of double superspace. Since dualities are related to super-Killing vectors, this includes as special cases both abelian and non-abelian fermionic T-duality. We then extend this approach to include Poisson-Lie T-duality and its generalizations, including the generalized coset construction recently discussed in [arXiv:1912.11036]. As an application, we construct the supergeometries associated with the integrable λ and η deformations of the AdS5 × S5 superstring. The deformation parameters λ and η are identified with the possible one-parameter embeddings of the supergravity frame within the doubled supergeometry. We propose a new family of U(1) duality-invariant models for nonlinear N = 1 supersymmetric electrodynamics coupled to supergravity. It includes the Cribiori-Farakos-Tournoy-van Proeyen supergravity-matter theory for spontaneously broken local supersymmetry with a novel Fayet-Iliopoulos term without gauged R-symmetry. We derive the action and symmetries of the bosonic sector of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity by taking the non-relativistic string limit. We find that the bosonic field content is extended by a Lagrange multiplier that implements a restriction on the Ramond-Ramond fluxes. We show that the SL(2, ℝ) transformation rules of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity form a novel, nonlinear polynomial realization. Using classical invariant theory of polynomial equations and binary forms, we will develop a general formalism describing the polynomial realization of SL(2, ℝ) and apply it to the special case of non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity. Using the same formalism, we classify all the relevant SL(2, ℝ) invariants. Invoking other bosonic symmetries, such as the local boost and dilatation symmetry, we show how the bosonic part of the non-Lorentzian IIB supergravity action is formed uniquely from these SL(2, ℝ) invariants. This work also points towards the concept of a non-Lorentzian bootstrap, where bosonic symmetries in non-Lorentzian supergravity are used to bootstrap the bosonic dynamics in Lorentzian supergravity, without considering the fermions. Generalizing previous results for N = 0 and N = 1, we analyze N = 2 JT supergravity on asymptotically AdS2 spaces with arbitrary topology and show that this theory of gravity is dual, in a holographic sense, to a certain random matrix ensemble in which supermultiplets of different R-charge are statistically independent and each is described by its own N = 2 random matrix ensemble. We also analyze the case with a time-reversal symmetry, either commuting or anticommuting with the R-charge. In order to compare supergravity to random matrix theory, we develop an N = 2 analog of the recursion relations for Weil-Petersson volumes originally discovered by Mirzakhani in the bosonic case. We consider the uplift of co-dimension two defect solutions of seven dimensional gauged supergravity to eleven dimensions, previously found by two of the authors. The uplifted solutions are expressed as Lin-Lunin-Maldacena solutions and an infinite family of regular solutions describing holographic defects is found using the electrostatic formulation of LLM solutions. We compute the first-order α′ corrections to a family of 4-dimensional, 4-charge, non-extremal black hole solutions of Heterotic Supergravity in the case with 3 independent charges. The solutions are fully analytic, reproduce the extremal limit previously found in the literature and, applying T-duality, they transform as expected. If we reduce to the case with a single independent charge we obtain the corrections to four embeddings of the Reissner-Nordström black hole in string theory. We completely characterize the black hole thermodynamics computing the Hawking temperature, Wald entropy, mass, gauge charges and their dual thermodynamic potentials. We verify that all these quantities are related by the first law of extended black hole mechanics and the Smarr formula once we include a potential associated to the dimensionful parameter α′ and the scalar charges. We construct two-dimensional supergravity theories endowed with a positive cosmological constant, that admit de Sitter vacua. We consider the cases of N = 1 as well as N = 2 supersymmetry, and couple the supergravity to a superconformal field theory with the same amount of supersymmetry. Upon fixing a supersymmetric extension of the Weyl gauge, the theories are captured, at the quantum level, by supersymmetric extensions of timelike Liouville theory with N = 1 and N = 2 supersymmetry respectively. The theories exhibit good ultraviolet properties and are amenable to a variety of techniques such as systematic loop expansions and, in the N = 2 case, supersymmetric localization. Our constructions offer a novel path toward a precise treatment of the Euclidean gravitational path integral for de Sitter, and in turn, the Gibbons-Hawking entropy of the de Sitter horizon. We argue that the supersymmetric localization method applied to the N = 2 theory must receive contributions from boundary terms in configuration space. We show that the non-linear BMS5 symmetry algebra of asymptotically flat Einstein gravity in five dimensions, as well as the super-BMS4 superalgebra of asymptotically flat supergravity, can be redefined so as to take a direct sum structure. In the new presentation of the (super-)algebra, angle-dependent translations and angle-dependent supersymmetry transformations commute with the (super-)Poincaré generators. We also explain in detail the structure and charge-integrability of asymptotic symmetries with symmetry parameters depending on the fields (through the charges themselves), a topic relevant for nonlinear asymptotic symmetry algebras. We construct, following [1-2], a massive M2-brane (supermembrane) as the limit of a genus two M2-brane that becomes a twice punctured Riemann surface with particular boundary conditions on the fields defined on the punctures. The target space is M9 × LCD, where LCD is a genus one light cone diagram. It contains mass terms and a topological term associated with the non-triviality of the target surface that, at low energies, can be associated with the presence of a cosmological constant. We show that the supergravity background of the M2-brane considered in this formulation requires the presence of M9-branes acting as sources. They correspond to the 11D uplift of the characteristic D8's of Romans supergravity. To this end, we explicitly show that some of the background singularities of the massive M2-brane can be reproduced by the M9-branes found by [3]. This establishes a relation between the Romans mass and the moduli of the massive M2-brane. When dimensionally reduced, we obtain a worldsheet Hamiltonian of a N=2 type IIA closed superstring in 10D. We denote it massive string. The corresponding massive string inherits a non-vanishing constant term from the topological massive M2-brane that shifts the Hamiltonian. The non-vanishing parameter is related to the non-trivial structure of the massive M2-brane background and it can be related to the Romans mass term. We determine the first curvature correction for the string amplitude of two supergravity states and two Kaluza-Klein modes on AdS5×S5, which is dual to the correlator O 2 O 2 O p O p of half-BPS operators in N = 4 SYM theory. The result has the form of an integral over the Riemann sphere as for the usual Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude, with the insertion of single-valued multiple polylogarithms of weight three. The result fixes OPE data of single-trace operators in N = 4 SYM theory at strong coupling, including operators with non-zero R-charge and odd spin. We use E8(8) Exceptional Field Theory to construct the consistent truncation of IIB supergravity on S3× S3× S1 to maximal 3-dimensional N = 16 gauged supergravity containing the N = (4, 4) AdS3 vacuum. We explain how to achieve this by adding a 7-form flux to the S1 reduction of the dyonic E7(7) truncation on S3× S3 previously constructed in the literature. Our truncation Ansatz includes, in addition to the N = (4, 4) vacuum, a host of moduli breaking some or all of the supersymmetries. We explicitly construct the uplift of a subset of these to construct new supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric AdS3 vacua of IIB string theory, which include a range of perturbatively stable non-supersymmetric 10-d vacua. Moreover, we show how the supersymmetric direction of the moduli space of AdS3 vacua of six-dimensional gauged supergravity studied in [1] is compactified upon lifting to 10 dimensions, and find evidence of T-duality playing a role in global aspects of the moduli space. Along the way, we also derive the form of 3-dimensional N = 16 gauged supergravity in terms of the embedding tensor and rule out a 10-/11-dimensional origin of some 3-dimensional gauged supergravities. We examine how conformal boundaries encode energy transport coefficients — namely transmission and reflection probabilities — of corresponding conformal interfaces in symmetric orbifold theories. These constitute a large class of irrational theories and are closely related to holographic setups. Our central goal is to compare such coefficients at the orbifold point (a field theory calculation) against their values when the orbifold is highly deformed (a gravity calculation) — an approach akin to past AdS/CFT-guided comparisons of physical quantities at strong versus weak coupling. At the orbifold point, we find that the (weighted-average) transport coefficients are simply averages of coefficients in the underlying seed theory. We then focus on the symmetric orbifold of the 핋4 sigma model interface CFT dual to type IIB supergravity on the 3d Janus solution. We compare the holographic transmission coefficient, which was found by [1], to that of the orbifold point. We find that the profile of the transmission coefficient substantially increases with the coupling, in contrast to boundary entropy. Microstrata are the non-extremal analogues of superstrata: they are smooth, non-extremal (non-BPS) solitonic solutions to IIB supergravity whose deep-throat limits approximate black holes. Using perturbation theory and numerical methods, we construct families of solutions using a consistent truncation to three-dimensional supergravity. The most general families presented here involve two continuous parameters, or amplitudes, and four quantized parameters that set the angular momenta and energy levels. Our solutions are asymptotic to the vacuum of the D1-D5 system: AdS3 × S3 × 핋4. Using holography, we show that the they are dual to multi-particle states in the D1-D5 CFT involving a large number of mutually non-BPS supergravitons and we determine the anomalous dimensions of these states from the binding energies in supergravity. These binding energies are uniformly negative and depend non-linearly on the amplitudes of the states. In one family of solutions, smoothness restricts some of the fields to lie on a special locus of the parameter space. Using precision holography we show that this special locus can be identified with the multi-particle states constructed via the standard OPE of the single-particle constituents. Our numerical analysis shows that microstrata are robust at large amplitudes and the solutions can be obtained to very high precision. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We construct new classes of supersymmetric AdS2 × Σ solutions of 4d gauged supergravity in presence of charged hypermultiplet scalars, with Σ the complex weighted projective space known as a spindle. These solutions can be viewed as near-horizon geome- tries of asymptotically Anti de-Sitter (AdS4) black holes with magnetic fluxes that admit embedding in 11d on Sasaki-Einstein (SE7) manifolds, which renders them of holographic interest. We show that in each case the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy follows from the procedure of gluing two gravitational blocks, ultimately determined by SE7 data. This allows us to establish the general form of the gravitational blocks in gauged 4d N = 2 supergravity with charged scalars and massive vectors. Holographically, our results provide a large N answer for the spindle index with anti-twist and additional mesonic or baryonic fluxes of a number of N = 2 Chern-Simons-matter theories. We propose a novel possibility for Higgs inflation where the perturbative unitarity below the Planck scale is ensured by construction and the successful predictions for inflation are accommodated. The conformal gravity coupling for the Higgs field leads to the proximity of the effective Planck mass to zero in the Jordan frame during inflation, corresponding to a pole in the Higgs kinetic term in the Einstein frame. Requiring the Higgs potential to vanish at the conformal pole in the effective theory in the Jordan frame, we make a robust prediction of the successful Higgs inflation. For a successful Higgs inflation at the pole, we take the running quartic coupling for the Higgs field to be small enough at the inflation scale, being consistent with the low-energy data, but we need a nontrivial extension of the SM with extra scalar or gauge fields in order to keep the running Higgs quartic coupling small during inflation. Performing the perturbative analysis of reheating with the known couplings of the SM particles to the Higgs boson, we show that a concrete realization of the Higgs pole inflation can be pinned down by the reheating processes with a general equation of state for the Higgs inflaton. We illustrate some extensions of the simple Higgs pole inflation to the general pole expansions, the running Higgs quartic coupling in the Standard Model and its extension with a singlet scalar field, a supergravity embedding of the Higgs pole inflation. Early Dark Energy (EDE) is a prominent model to resolve the Hubble tension, which employs a dynamical axion with a periodic potential. In this work, we take first steps towards the embedding of this model into stable compactifications of string theory. First, we provide a pedagogical review of the EDE scenario and its main challenges. Second, we construct a simple supergravity toy model using only minimal ingredients. Already at this level, we can understand the origin of the harmonics of the EDE scalar potential in terms of a delicate balance of the leading terms from separate non-perturbative effects. Third and final, we embed the model into a KKLT-type compactification, with the EDE scalar field realized by a two-form axion. We find that a successful embedding, with all moduli stabilized, requires restrictive assumptions, which are lacking at present a known string theory implementation mechanism, both on the Pfaffians and on the exponents of the non-perturbative terms responsible for the EDE dynamics. We point out that such non-generic conditions reflect well known challenges of the EDE model and further investigation might guide us towards a conclusive resolution. An alternative viewpoint suggests that rather than serving as the foundation for a string theory embedding, these conditions might instead indicate that EDE is, in fact, incompatible with string theory, at least in the realizations we study here. We use the quantum spectral curve to compute the Hagedorn temperature for ABJM theory in terms of the interpolating function h(λ). At weak coupling we compute this temperature up to eight-loop order, showing that it matches the known tree-level and two-loop results. At strong coupling we compute the dependence numerically, showing that it is consistent with expectations from supergravity and the plane-wave limit for the four leading terms in the strong coupling expansion, up to an overall shift of the zero-point energy for type IIA string theory on AdS4 × ℂP3. This paper explores the process of vacuum decay in supersymmetric models related to flux compactifications. In particular, we describe these instabilities within supersymmetric Lagrangians for a single three-form multiplet. This multiplet combines scalar fields, representing the moduli fields in four dimensions, with 3-form fields that influence the potential for these moduli via the integer flux of their associated 4-form field strength. Furthermore, using supersymmetry as a guide we obtain the form of the couplings of these fields to the membranes that act as sources to the 3-form potentials. Adding small supersymmetry breaking terms to these Lagrangians one can obtain instanton solutions describing the decay of the vacua in these models by the formation of a membrane bubble. These instantons combine the usual Coleman-de Luccia and the Brown-Teitelboim formalisms in a single unified model. We study simple numerical examples of theories with and without gravity in this new framework and generalize known Euclidean methods to accomodate the simulataneous inclusion of scalar fields and charged membranes to these instanton solutions. Moreover, we show explicitly in these examples how one recovers the static supersymmetric solutions in the limiting case where the supersymmetry breaking terms vanish. In this limit, the bubble becomes infinite and flat and represents a hybrid between the usual supersymmetric domain walls of field theory models and the brane solutions interpolating between the supersymmetric vacua; a sort of dressed supermembrane BPS solution. Finally, we briefly comment on the implications of these solutions in cosmological models based on the String Theory Landscape where these type of 4d effective theories could be relevant in inflationary scenarios. We discuss minimally supersymmetric AdS3 flux vacua of massive type IIA supergravity on G2-orientifolds. We find that configurations with broken scale-separation can be within finite distance from scale-separated ones, while both remain at large volume, weak coupling and have moduli stabilization. The transition is achieved with the use of a D4-brane modulus, which allows the F4 flux to jump, and has an effective potential always accessible to the three-dimensional low-energy theory. Theories with compact extra dimensions can exhibit a vacuum instability known as a bubble of nothing. These decay modes can be obstructed if the internal manifold is stabilized by fluxes, or if it carries Wilson lines for background gauge fields, or if the instanton is incompatible with the spin structure. In each of these cases the decay can proceed by adding dynamical charged membranes or gauge fields. We give a general, bottom-up procedure for constructing approximate bubble of nothing solutions in models with internal spheres stabilized by flux and study the influence of the brane tension on the tunneling exponent, finding two branches of solutions that merge at a minimal superextremal value of the tension. In the case of Wilson operators and incompatible fermions, the relevant bubble is shown to be the Euclidean Reissner-Nordstrom black hole, and the ordinary decay exponent is modified by 1/g2 effects. We study the analytic structure of the heavy-heavy-light-light holographic correlators in the supergravity approximation of the AdS3 × S3/CFT2 duality. As an explicit example, we derive the correlator where the heavy operator is a classical microstate of the 5D supersymmetric black hole and its dual geometry interpolates as a function of a continuous parameter between global AdS3 and the extremal BTZ black hole. The simplest perturbation of this interpolating geometry by a light field is described by the Heun equation and we exploit the relation of its connection coefficients to the Liouville CFT to analytically compute the correlator in the two limits, focusing in particular on the black hole regime. In this limit we find that the real poles of the correlator become dense and can be approximated by a cut. We show that, when the charges of the heavy state are in the black hole regime, the discontinuity across the cut has complex poles corresponding to the quasi-normal modes of BTZ. This behaviour is qualitatively similar to what is expected for the large central charge limit of a typical black hole microstate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a constructive method to compute the AdS Virasoro-Shapiro amplitude, order by order in AdS curvature corrections. At kth order the answer takes the form of a genus zero world-sheet integral involving weight 3k single-valued multiple polylogarithms. The coefficients in our ansatz are fixed, order by order, by requiring: crossing symmetry; the correct supergravity limit; the correct structure of poles, determined by dispersive sum rules; and the dimensions of the first few Konishi-like operators, available from integrability. We explicitly construct the first two curvature corrections. Our final answer then reproduces all localisation results and all CFT data available from integrability, to this order, and produces a wealth of new CFT data for planar N = 4 SYM at strong coupling. We study short operators in planar N = 4 SYM at strong coupling, for general spin and SO(6) symmetric traceless representations. At strong coupling their dimension grows like ∆ ~ 2 δ λ 1 / 4 and their spectrum of degeneracies can be analysed by considering the massive spectrum of type II strings in flat space-time. We furthermore compute their structure constants with two arbitrary chiral primary operators. This is done by considering the four-point correlator of arbitrary chiral primary operators at strong coupling in planar N = 4 SYM, including the supergravity approximation plus the infinite tower of stringy corrections that contributes in the flat space limit. Our results are valid for generic rank n symmetric traceless representations of SO(6) and in particular for n ≫ 1, as long as n ≪ λ1/4. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
