We find a general formula for the two-loop renormalization counterterms of a scalar quantum field theory with interactions containing up to two derivatives, extending 't Hooft's one-loop result. The method can also be used for theories with higher derivative interactions, as long as the terms in the Lagrangian have at most one derivative acting on each field. We show that diagrams with factorizable topologies do not contribute to the renormalization group equations. The results in this paper will be combined with the geometric method in a subsequent paper to obtain the counterterms and renormalization group equations for the scalar sector of effective field theories (EFT) to two-loop order. In a recent paper, Gorbenko and Zan [1] observed that O(n) symmetry alone does not protect the well-known renormalization group flow from the dilute to the dense phase of the two-dimensional O(n) model under thermal perturbations. We show in this paper that the required "extra protection" is topological in nature, and is related to the existence of certain non-invertible topological defect lines. We define these defect lines and discuss the ensuing topological protection, both in the context of the O(n) lattice model and in its recently understood continuum limit, which takes the form of a conformal field theory governed by an interchiral algebra. We propose a family of IR dualities for 3d N = 4 U(N) SQCD with Nf fundamental flavors and P Abelian hypermultiplets i.e. P hypermultiplets in the determinant representation of the gauge group. These theories are good in the Gaiotto-Witten sense if the number of fundamental flavors obeys the constraint Nf≥ 2N − 1 with generic P ≥ 1, and in contrast to the standard U(N) SQCD, they do not admit an ugly regime. The IR dualities in question arise in the window Nf = 2N + 1, 2N, 2N − 1, with P = 1 in the first case and generic P ≥ 1 for the others. The dualities involving Nf = 2N ± 1 are characterized by an IR enhancement of the Coulomb branch global symmetry on one side of the duality, such that the rank of the emergent global symmetry group is greater than the rank of the UV global symmetry. The dual description makes the rank of this emergent global symmetry manifest in the UV. In addition, one can read off the emergent global symmetry itself from the dual quiver. We show that these dualities are related by certain field theory operations and assemble themselves into a duality web. Finally, we show that the U(N) SQCDs with Nf≥ 2N − 1 and P Abelian hypers have Lagrangian 3d mirrors, and this allows one to explicitly write down the 3d mirror associated with a given IR dual pair. In this paper, we will study the arithmetic geometry of rank-2 attractors, which are Calabi-Yau threefolds whose Hodge structures admit interesting splits. We will develop methods to analyze the algebraic de Rham cohomologies of rank-2 attractors, and we will illustrate how our methods work by focusing on an example in a recent paper by Candelas, de la Ossa, Elmi and van Straten. We will look at the interesting connections between rank-2 attractors in string theory and Deligne's conjecture on the special values of L-functions. In this paper, we delve into the gravitational path integral of Gauss-Bonnet gravity in four spacetime dimensions, in the mini-superspace approximation. Our primary focus lies in investigating the transition amplitude between distinct boundary configurations. Of particular interest is the case of Robin boundary conditions, known to lead to a stable Universe in Einstein-Hilbert gravity, alongside Neumann boundary conditions. To ensure a consistent variational problem, we supplement the bulk action with suitable surface terms. This study leads us to compute the necessary surface terms required for Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the Robin boundary condition, which wasn't known earlier. Thereafter, we perform an exact computation of the transition amplitude. Through ħ → 0 analysis, we discover that the Gauss-Bonnet gravity inherently favors the initial configuration, aligning with the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary proposal. Remarkably, as the Universe expands, it undergoes a transition from the Euclidean (imaginary time) to the Lorentzian signature (real time). To further reinforce our findings, we employ a saddle point analysis utilizing the Picard-Lefschetz methods. The saddle point analysis allows us to find the initial configurations which lead to Hartle-Hawking no-boundary Universe that agrees with the exact computations. Our study concludes that for positive Gauss-Bonnet coupling, initial configurations corresponding to the Hartle-Hawking no-boundary Universe gives dominant contribution in the gravitational path-integral. It has been proposed that flux compactifications of supercritical string theories (i.e., with spacetime dimension D > 10) have dS vacua, with large D acting as a control parameter for corrections to the classical spacetime effective action. In this paper, we provide a detailed analysis of the self-consistency of such models, focussing on α′ and backreaction corrections. We first show that all supercritical AdS, Minkowski and dS vacua in this setting have ≳ O 1 curvature and/or field strengths in the string frame. This may be in tension with suppressing α′ corrections unless the coefficients of the higher-derivative terms have a sufficiently strong large-D suppression. We then argue that an additional and more severe problem arises in the dS case due to the backreaction of O-planes. In particular, we argue using a combination of geometric bounds and string-theory constraints that the O-plane backreaction is large in supercritical dS models. This implies that a large part of the naive classical geometry is eaten up by singular holes and thus indicates a breakdown of the classical description. Our finding resonates with several other recent results suggesting that string theory does not admit dS vacua in regimes where string and backreaction corrections are under control. As byproducts of our analysis, we derive a number of technical results that are useful beyond the specific applications in this paper. In particular, we compute the leading backreaction corrections to the smeared solution in a general flux compactification from D to d dimensions for an arbitrary distribution of O-planes and D-branes. We further argue for a general estimate for Green's functions on compact manifolds (and therefore for the backreaction corrections) in terms of their diameter, volume and dimension. Photonspheres, curved hypersurfaces on which massless particles can perform closed geodesic motions around highly compact objects, are an integral part of generic black-hole spacetimes. In the present compact paper we prove, using analytical techniques, that the innermost light rings of spherically symmetric hairy black-hole spacetimes whose external matter fields are characterized by a traceless energy-momentum tensor cannot be located arbitrarily close to the central black hole. In particular, we reveal the physically interesting fact that the non-linearly coupled Einstein-matter field equations set the lower bound r γ ≥ 6 5 r H on the radii of traceless black-hole photonspheres, where rH is the radius of the outermost black-hole horizon. In this paper we examine the possibility of dilute axion stars converting to photons in the weak, large-scale magnetic field of the Milky Way and show that they can resonate with the surrounding plasma and produce a sizable signal. We consider two possibilities for the plasma: free electrons and HII regions. In the former case, we argue that the frequency of the photons will be too small to be observed even by space-based radio telescopes. In the latter case, their frequency is larger, safely above the solar wind cut-off. We provide an estimate of the flux as a function of the decay constant and show that for fa< 2 × 1011 GeV, the signal will be above the radio emission of the solar system's planets and it could potentially be detected by the NCLE instrument which is on board the Chang'e-4 spacecraft. Finally, we calculate the time scale of decay of the axion star and demonstrate that back-reaction can be neglected for all physically interesting values of the decay constant, while the minimum time scale of decay is in the order of a few hours. This paper presents an evaluation of the wave function coefficients for conformally coupled scalars at both one and two-loop levels at leading order in the coupling constant, in momentum space. We take cues from time-dependent interactions in flat spacetime and under suitable approximations, these can also be used to study the wave function coefficients for general cosmologies. We make use of recursion relations developed in [20] to regularize certain bulk-point integrals and express the wave function coefficients in a form that simplifies the loop integrals. We utilize hard-cutoff regularization to regularize the loop integrals and further provide a discussion on their renormalization. Despite the rich and fruitful history of the integrability approach to string theory on the AdS3 × S3 × T4 background, it has not been possible to extract many concrete predictions from integrability, except in a strict asymptotic regime of large quantum numbers, due to the severity of wrapping effects. The situation changed radically with two independent and identical proposals for the Quantum Spectral Curve (QSC) for this system in a background of pure Ramond-Ramond flux. In other integrable superstring backgrounds there is compelling evidence that this formulation captures all wrapping effects exactly and describes the full planar spectrum. This great success motivates us to study the new proposed QSC and develop methods to extract from it concrete predictions for spectral data. The AdS3 × S3 × T4 case presents a significant novel feature and challenge compared to its higher-dimensional analogues — massless modes. It has been conjectured that these manifest themselves in a new property of this QSC: the non-quadratic nature of the branch-cut singularities of the QSC Q-functions. This feature implies new technical challenges in solving the QSC equations as compared to the well-studied case of N = 4 SYM. In this paper we resolve these difficulties and obtain the first ever predictions for unprotected string excitations in the planar limit with finite quantum numbers and RR flux. We explain how to extract a systematic expansion around the analogue of the weak 't Hooft coupling limit in N = 4 SYM and also obtain high-precision numerical results. We study 4-dimensional SU(N) gauge theory with one adjoint Weyl fermion and fundamental matter — either bosonic or fermionic. Symmetries, their 't Hooft anomalies, and the Vafa-Witten-Weingarten theorems strongly constrain the possible bulk phases. The first part of the paper is dedicated to a single fundamental fermion or boson. As long as the adjoint Weyl fermion is massless, this theory always possesses a ℤ 2 N χ chiral symmetry, which breaks spontaneously, supporting N vacua and domain walls between them for a generic mass of the matter fields. We argue, however, that the domain walls generically undergo a phase transition, and we establish the corresponding 3d gauge theories on the walls. The rest of the paper is dedicated to studying the multi-flavor fundamental matter. Here, the phases crucially depend on the ratio of the number of colors and the number of fundamental flavors. We also discuss the limiting scenarios of heavy adjoint and fundamentals, which align neatly with our current understanding of QCD and N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper gives concrete examples to exhibit how to use the replica trick to calculate the quantum (quasi-)distances holographically. First, we consider the fidelity and relative entropy between thermal states that are dual to the Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. Then we generalize our method into the RN-AdS black holes by adding a U(1) gauge field. We also investigate the fidelity between states excited by scalar operator in probe limit. In this case, it is surprising that the fidelity in standard quantization will suffer from new UV divergence though the usual holographic renormalization has been applied. We call for deep understanding for such divergence in the future. We also discover a holographic method to check whether the density matrices of two holographic states are commutative. Monte Carlo study of the Schwinger model (quantum electrodynamics in one spatial dimension) with a topological θ term is very difficult due to the sign problem in the conventional lattice formulation. In this paper, we point out that this problem can be circumvented by utilizing the lattice formulation of the bosonized Schwinger model, initially invented by Bender et al. in 1985. After conducting a detailed review of their lattice formulation, we explicitly validate its correctness through detailed comparisons with analytical and previous numerical results at θ = 0. We also obtain the θ dependence of the chiral condensate and successfully reproduce the mass perturbation result for small fermion masses m/g ≲ 0.125. As an application, we perform a precise calculation of the string tension and quantitatively reveal the confining properties in the Schwigner model at finite temperature and θ region for the first time. In particular, we find that the string tension is negative for noninteger probe charges around θ = π at low temperatures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The duality between type IIA superstring theory and M-theory enables us to lift bound states of D0-branes and n parallel D6-branes to M-theory compactified on an n-centered multi-Taub-NUT space TN n. Accordingly, the rank n K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas invariants of ℂ3 are connected with the index of M-theory on ℂ3 × TN n. In this paper, we extend this connection by considering intersecting D6-branes. In the presence of a suitable Neveu-Schwarz B-field, the system preserves two supercharges. This system is T-dual to the configuration of tetrahedron instantons which we introduced in [1]. We conjecture a closed-form expression for the K-theoretic tetrahedron instanton partition function, which is the generating function of the D0-D6 partition functions. We find that the tetrahedron instanton partition function coincides with the partition function of the magnificent four model for special values of the parameters, leading us to conjecture that our system of intersecting D6-branes can be obtained from the annihilation of D8-branes and anti-D8-branes. Remarkably, the K-theoretic tetrahedron instanton partition function allows an interpretation in terms of the index of M-theory on a noncompact Calabi-Yau fivefold which is related to a superposition of Kaluza-Klein monopoles. The dimensional reduction of the system allows us to express the cohomological tetrahedron instanton partition function in terms of the MacMahon function, generalizing the correspondence between Gromov-Witten invariants and Donaldson-Thomas invariants for Calabi-Yau threefolds. In two recent papers [1-2] we have proposed a program of study which allows us to compute the correlation functions of local and semi-local fields in generalised T T ¯ -deformed integrable quantum field theories. This new program, based on the construction of form factors, opens many avenues for future study, one of which we address in this paper: computing entanglement measures employing branch point twist fields. Indeed, over the past 15 years, this has become one the leading methods for the computation of entanglement measures, both in conformal field theory and integrable quantum field theory. Thus the generalisation of this program to T T ¯ -perturbed theories offers a promising new tool for the study of entanglement measures in the presence of irrelevant perturbations. In this paper, we show that the natural two-particle form factor solution for branch point twist fields in replica theories with diagonal scattering admits a simple generalisation to a solution for T T ¯ -perturbed theories. Starting with this solution, some of the known properties of entanglement measures in massive integrable quantum field theories can be generalised to the perturbed models. We show this by focusing on the Ising field theory. During the completion of this paper, we became aware of the recent publication [3] where the same problem has been addressed. We study the meson spectrum of the N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with N = 2 fundamental hypermultiplets for a finite electric field by using the D3/D7 model. The spectrum for scalar and vector mesons is computed by analyzing the (quasi-)normal modes for the fluctuations of the D7-brane embedding and gauge fields. In the presence of an electric field, two different phases in the background are realized: the meson and dissociation phases. In this paper, we analyze the meson spectrum of scalar and vector mesons for all ranges of the electric field and explore the effect of the electric field on the meson spectrum, that is, the Stark effect. In the meson spectrum, we observe the avoided crossing between different levels due to the coupling of fluctuations via the electric field. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complex singlet extension CxSM of the Standard Model (SM) is a simple extension of the SM with two visible Higgs bosons in the spectrum and a Dark Matter (DM) candidate. In this paper we complete the computation of the next-to-leading (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections to on-shell and non-loop-induced Higgs decays. Our calculations are implemented in the code EWsHDECAY which also includes the relevant QCD corrections. Performing an extensive parameter scan in the model and including all relevant theoretical and experimental single- and di-Higgs as well as DM constraints, we obtain a viable parameter sample. We find that current DM constraints are able to test the model in DM mass regions where collider searches are not sensitive. The relative EW corrections turn out to be large for scenarios with relatively large couplings, threshold effects or small leading-order (LO) widths. Otherwise, they are of typical EW size and can amount up to about 20–25%. The theory uncertainty derived from the change of the renormalization scheme dependence then is of a few per cent. While the NLO corrections applied in the constraints due to single- and di-Higgs searches impact the validity of specific parameter points, the overall shape of the allowed parameter region is not yet sensitive to the EW corrections. This picture will change with further increased experimental precision in the future and necessitates precise predictions on the theory side as presented in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Quantum field theories with identical local dynamics can admit different choices of global structure, leading to different partition functions and spectra of extended operators. Such choices can be reformulated in terms of a topological field theory in one dimension higher, the symmetry TFT. In this paper we show that this TFT can be reconstructed from a careful analysis of the infrared Coulomb-like phases. In particular, the TFT matches between the UV and the IR. This provides a purely field theoretical counterpart of several recent results obtained via geometric engineering in various string/M/F theory setups for theories in four and five dimensions that we confirm and extend. Error-correcting codes are known to define chiral 2d lattice CFTs where all the U(1) symmetries are enhanced to SU(2). In this paper, we extend this construction to a broader class of length-n codes which define full (non-chiral) CFTs with SU(2)n symmetry, where n = c + c ¯ . We show that codes give a natural discrete ensemble of 2d theories in which one can compute averaged observables. The partition functions obtained from averaging over all codes weighted equally is found to be given by the sum over modular images of the vacuum character of the full extended symmetry group, and in this case the number of modular images is finite. This averaged partition function has a large gap, scaling linearly with n, in primaries of the full SU(2)n symmetry group. Using the sum over modular images, we conjecture the form of the genus-2 partition function. This exhibits the connected contributions to disconnected boundaries characteristic of wormhole solutions in a bulk dual. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Loop corrections to finite-time correlation functions in quantum field theories away from equilibrium can be calculated using the in-in path integral approach. In this paper, we calculate the unequal-time two-point correlator for different massless self-interacting scalar quantum field theories on a Minkowski background, starting the field evolution at an arbitrary initial time. We find the counterterms that need to be added to UV-renormalize the result, including usual in-out counterterms in the dynamics and additional initial state counterterms that are required to cancel all UV divergences. We find that the late-time limit of the renormalized correlation function exhibits a linear or logarithmic growth in time, depending on whether the interaction strength is dimension-one or dimensionless, respectively. The late-time correlations match those obtained in our companion paper and, as shown there, the divergences do not indicate a real IR issue, consistent with what one would expect in Minkowski. In this paper, the A -theory, an extension of F-theory, is described as a fully U-duality covariant brane theory. This theory has some distinguishing features not known from world-sheet models. In particular, seen as a sigma model, both world-volume and target space coordinates are specific representations of the same group (the U-duality group). The U-duality group in question is an exceptional group (a split form of the Ed series). The structure of this group allows it to encompass both the T-duality group of string theory as well as the general linear symmetry group of M -theory. A -theory is defined by the current algebras in Hamiltonian formalism, or by world-volume actions in Lagrangian formalism. The spacetime coordinates are selfdual gauge fields on the world-volume, requiring the Gauß law constraints tying the world-volume to spacetime. Solving the Gauß law constraints/the Virasoro constraints gives the world-volume/spacetime sectioning from A -theory to T -theory/ M -theory respectively. The A -theory Lagrangian admits extended symmetry which has not been observed previously in the literature, where the background fields include both the spacetime and the world-volume gravitational fields. We also constructed the four-point amplitude of A -theory in the low energy limit. The amplitude is written in a way that the U-duality symmetry is manifest, but after solving the section condition, it reduces to the usual four-graviton amplitude. In the previous papers, we have referred to this model as F-theory, however, F-theory initiated by Vafa is now a big branch of string theory as the study of elliptic fibrations, so we refer to these constructions as generalized models of theory for all dimensions with all duality symmetries as A -theory. In models with a U(1) gauge extension beyond the Standard Model, one can derive sum rules for the couplings of the theory that are a consequence of tree-level unitarity. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive list of coupling sum rules for a general SU 2 L × U 1 Y × U 1 Y ′ gauge theory coupled to an arbitrary set of fermion and scalar multiplets. These results are of particular interest for models of dark matter that employ an extended gauge sector mediated by a new (dark) Z′ gauge boson. For the case of a minimal extension of the Standard Model with a U 1 Y ′ gauge boson, we clarify the definitions of the weak mixing angle and the electroweak ρ parameter. We demonstrate the utility of a generalized ρ parameter (denoted by ρ′) whose definition naturally follows from the unitarity sum rules developed in this paper. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Black holes are believed to have the fast scrambling properties of random matrices. If the fuzzball proposal is to be a viable model for quantum black holes, it should reproduce this expectation. This is considered challenging, because it is natural for the modes on a fuzzball microstate to follow Poisson statistics. In a previous paper, we noted a potential loophole here, thanks to the modes depending not just on the n-quantum number, but also on the J-quantum numbers of the compact dimensions. For a free scalar field ϕ, by imposing a Dirichlet boundary condition ϕ = 0 at the stretched horizon, we showed that this J-dependence leads to a linear ramp in the Spectral Form Factor (SFF). Despite this, the status of level repulsion remained mysterious. In this letter, motivated by the profile functions of BPS fuzzballs, we consider a generic profile ϕ = ϕ0(θ) instead of ϕ = 0 at the stretched horizon. For various notions of genericity (eg. when the Fourier coefficients of ϕ0(θ) are suitably Gaussian distributed), we find that the J-dependence of the spectrum exhibits striking evidence of level repulsion, along with the linear ramp. We also find that varying the profile leads to natural interpolations between Poisson and Wigner-Dyson(WD)-like spectra. The linear ramp in our previous work can be understood as arising via an extreme version of level repulsion in such a limiting spectrum. We also explain how the stretched horizon/fuzzball is different in these aspects from simply putting a cut-off in flat space or AdS (i.e., without a horizon). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we explore the coupling of a light axion-like particle (ALP) to top quarks. We use high-energy LHC probes, and examine both the direct probe to this coupling in associated production of a top-pair with an ALP, and the indirect probe through loop-induced gluon fusion to an ALP leading to top pairs. Using the latest LHC Run II data, we provide the best limit on this coupling. We also compare these limits with those obtained from loop-induced couplings in diboson final states, finding that the t t ¯ +MET channel is the best current handle on this coupling. This paper investigates the β-symmetry of the heterotic string theory at order α′ in the context of open spacetime manifolds. Our analysis reveals that the parity-odd component of the effective action at this order remains invariant under β-transformations. Fracton phases of matter are gapped phases of matter that, by dint of their sensitivity to UV data, demand non-standard quantum field theories to describe them in the IR. Two such approaches are foliated quantum theory and exotic field theory. In this paper, we explicitly construct a map from one to the other and work out several examples. In particular, we recover the equivalence between the foliated and exotic fractonic BF theories recently demonstrated at the level of operator correspondence. We also demonstrate the equivalence of toric code layers and the anisotropic model with lineons and planons to the foliated BF theory with one and two foliations, respectively. Finally, we derive new exotic field theories that provide simple descriptions of hybrid fracton phases from foliated field theries known to do so. Our results both provide new examples of exotic field theories and pave the way toward their systematic construction from foliated field theories. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we re-investigate the static, soliton-like solutions in the model of the Einstein gravity coupled to a free and complex scalar field, which have been known as mini-boson stars. With the numerical methods, we have discovered a new family of solutions in addition to the typical single mini-boson star solution. These solutions can be interpreted as chains of boson stars, consisting of multiple boson stars along the symmetry axis. We demonstrate the configuration of two types of chains, one with an even number of constituents and the other with an odd number of constituents. Furthermore, we also study the effect of the frequency of the complex scalar field on the ADM mass M and the U(1) scalar charge Q. It is noteworthy that the existence of chains of boson stars does not require the introduction of a complex scalar field with self-interacting potential. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we generalize previous work on decomposition in three-dimensional orbifolds by 2-groups realized as analogues of central extensions, to orbifolds by more general 2-groups. We describe the computation of such orbifolds in physics, state a version of the decomposition conjecture, and then compute in numerous examples, checking that decomposition works as advertised. In the two-component Ginzburg-Landau theory of superfluidity, a pair of fractional vortices form a composite type of topological defect, usually referred to as a baby skyrmion. In this paper, we initiate the construction of such a baby skyrmion in the holographic model of two-component superfluids. As a result, two types of baby skyrmion configurations are found, where the monopole-type of one is constructed directly by solving the static equations of motion while the dipole-type of one is obtained by resorting to the time evolution method. In addition, we find that the existence of these two types of baby skyrmion depends on the inter-component coupling, reminiscent of the situation in the baby skyrmion model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Symmetries and their anomalies give strong constraints on renormalization group (RG) flows of quantum field theories. Recently, the identification of a theory's global symmetries with its topological sector has provided additional constraints on RG flows to symmetry preserving gapped phases due to mathematical results in category and topological quantum field theory. In this paper, we derive constraints on RG flows from ℤ2-valued pure- and mixed-gravitational anomalies that can only be activated on non-spin manifolds. We show that such anomalies cannot be matched by a unitary, symmetry preserving gapped phase without symmetry fractionalization. We study various perturbations and their holographic interpretation for non-Abelian T-dual of AdS5 × S5 where the T-duality is applied along the SU(2) of AdS5. This paper focuses on two types of perturbations, namely the scalar and the vector fields on NATD of AdS5 × S5. For scalar perturbations, the corresponding solutions could be categorised into two classes. For one of these classes of solutions, we build up the associated holographic dictionary where the asymptotic radial mode sources scalar operators for the (0 + 1)d matrix model. These scalar operators correspond to either a marginal or an irrelevant deformation of the dual matrix model at strong coupling. We calculate the two point correlation between these scalar operators and explore their high as well as low frequency behaviour. We also discuss the completion of these geometries by setting an upper cut-off along the holographic axis and discuss the corresponding corrections to the scalar correlators in the dual matrix model. Finally, we extend our results for vector perturbations where we obtain asymptotic solutions for a particular class of modes. In this paper, we study the next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) QCD corrections for the process e+e− → J/ψ + J/ψ at the B factories. By including the NNLO corrections, the cross section turns negative due to the poor convergence of perturbative expansion. Consequently, to obtain a reasonable estimation for the cross section, the square of the amplitude up to NNLO is used. In addition, the contributions from the bottom quark and the light-by-light part, which are usually neglected, are also included. The final cross section is obtained as 1.76 − 1.66 + 2.42 fb at a center-of-mass energy of s = 10.58 GeV. The Higgs boson was the last fundamental piece of the Standard Model to be experimentally confirmed. LHC is embarked in a quest to probe the possibility that this particle provides a portal to new physics. One front of this quest consists in measuring the interactions of the Higgs with itself and with other SM particles to a high precision. In a more exotic front, the LHC is searching for the possibility that a pair of Higgses (HH) is the evidence of a new resonance. Such resonances are predicted in models with extended Higgs sectors, extra dimensions, and in models with exotic bound states. In this paper we show how scalar quirks in Folded Supersymmetry can give rise to HH resonances. We point out a viable sector of the parameter space in which HH is the dominant decay channel for these squirkonium bound states. We found that future runs of the LHC could discover HH resonances in the range of 0.5–1.6 TeV under reasonable assumptions. Furthermore, for a given mass and width of the HH signal, the model predicts the branching ratio of the subsequent decay modes of the heavy resonance. Finding the extra decay modes in the predicted pattern can serve as a smoking gun to confirm the model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Effective String Theory (EST) represents a powerful non-perturbative approach to describe confinement in Yang-Mills theory that models the confining flux tube as a thin vibrating string. EST calculations are usually performed using the zeta-function regularization: however there are situations (for instance the study of the shape of the flux tube or of the higher order corrections beyond the Nambu-Goto EST) which involve observables that are too complex to be addressed in this way. In this paper we propose a numerical approach based on recent advances in machine learning methods to circumvent this problem. Using as a laboratory the Nambu-Goto string, we show that by using a new class of deep generative models called Continuous Normalizing Flows it is possible to obtain reliable numerical estimates of EST predictions. Nambu Quantum Mechanics, proposed in Phys. Lett. B536, 305 (2002), is a deformation of canonical Quantum Mechanics in which the manifold over which the "phase" of an energy eigenstate time evolves is modified. This generalization affects oscillation and interference phenomena through the introduction of two deformation parameters that quantify the extent of deviation from canonical Quantum Mechanics. In this paper, we constrain these parameters utilizing atmospheric neutrino oscillation data, and B0- B 0 ¯ oscillation data from Belle. The physical observables of quantum theory can be described by perturbation theory, which is often given by diverging power series. This divergence is connected to the existence of non-perturbative phenomena, where resurgence allows us to study this connection. Applying this idea to the WKB expansion, the exact WKB analysis gives a clear connection to non-perturbative phenomena. In this paper, we apply the exact WKB analysis to the Unruh effect and Hawking radiation. The mechanism we found in this paper is similar to the Schwinger effect of a constant electric field, where the background is static but the Stokes phenomenon appears in the temporal part. Comparing this with a sonic black hole, our calculations show a clear discrepancy between them. Then, we briefly explain how quantum backreactions can be included in the exact WKB formalism. In this paper we focus on the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron O k, a recently introduced positive geometry that encodes the tree-level scattering amplitudes in ABJM theory. We generate the full boundary stratification of O k for various k and conjecture that its boundaries can be labelled by so-called orthogonal Grassmannian forests (OG forests). We determine the generating function for enumerating these forests according to their dimension and show that the Euler characteristic of the poset of these forests equals one. This provides a strong indication that the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron is homeomorphic to a ball. This paper is supplemented with the Mathematica package orthitroids which contains useful functions for exploring the structure of the positive orthogonal Grassmannian and the orthogonal momentum amplituhedron. In this paper, we study the AdS-Rindler reconstruction. The CFT operators naively given by the holographic dictionary for the AdS-Rindler reconstruction contain tachyonic modes, which are inconsistent with the causality and unitarity of the CFT. Therefore, the subregion duality and the entanglement wedge reconstruction do not hold. We also find that the tachyonic modes in the AdS-Rindler patch lead to arbitrary high-energy or trans-Planckian modes in the global AdS. It means that the mode expansion of the Rindler patch is sensitive to the UV limit of the theory, that is, quantum gravity. The R2 inflation which is an extension of general relativity (GR) by quadratic scalar curvature introduces a quasi-de Sitter expansion of the early Universe governed by Ricci scalar being an eigenmode of d'Alembertian operator. In this paper, we derive a most general theory of gravity admitting R2 inflationary solution which turned out to be higher curvature non-local extension of GR. We study in detail inflationary perturbations in this theory and analyse the structure of form-factors that leads to a massive scalar (scalaron) and massless tensor degrees of freedom. We argue that the theory contains only finite number of free parameters which can be fixed by cosmological observations. We derive predictions of our generalized non-local R2-like inflation and obtain the scalar spectral index ns ≈ 1 − 2 N and any value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio r < 0.036. In this theory, tensor spectral index can be either positive or negative nt ≶ 0 and the well-known consistency relation r = –8nt is violated in a non-trivial way. We also compute running of the tensor spectral index and discuss observational implications to distinguish this model from several classes of scalar field models of inflation. These predictions allow us to probe the nature of quantum gravity in the scope of future CMB and gravitational wave observations. Finally we comment on how the features of generalized non-local R2-like inflation cannot be captured by established notions of the so-called effective field theory of single field inflation and how we must redefine the way we pursue inflationary cosmology. In this paper, we present a method of embedding physics data manifolds with metric structure into lower dimensional spaces with simpler metrics, such as Euclidean and Hyperbolic spaces. We then demonstrate that it can be a powerful step in the data analysis pipeline for many applications. Using progressively more realistic simulated collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, we show that this embedding approach learns the underlying latent structure. With the notion of volume in Euclidean spaces, we provide for the first time a viable solution to quantifying the true search capability of model agnostic search algorithms in collider physics (i.e. anomaly detection). Finally, we discuss how the ideas presented in this paper can be employed to solve many practical challenges that require the extraction of physically meaningful representations from information in complex high dimensional datasets. Following a recent publication, in this paper we count the number of independent operators at arbitrary mass dimension in N = 1 supersymmetric gauge theories and derive their field and derivative content. This work uses Hilbert series machinery and extends a technique from our previous work on handling integration by parts redundancies to vector superfields. The method proposed here can be applied to both abelian and non-abelian gauge theories and for any set of (chiral/antichiral) matter fields. In a remarkable paper, Dienes discovered that the absence of physical tachyons in closed string theory is intimately related to oscillations in the net number of bosonic minus fermionic degrees of freedom, a pattern predicted by an underlying misaligned supersymmetry. The average of these oscillations was linked to an exponential growth controlled by an effective central charge Ceff smaller than the expected inverse Hagedorn temperature. Dienes also conjectured that Ceff should vanish when tachyons are absent. In this paper, we revisit this problem and show that boson-fermion oscillations are realised even when tachyons are present in the physical spectrum. In fact, we prove that the average growth rate Ceff is set by the mass of the "lightest" state, be it massless or tachyonic, and coincides with the effective inverse Hagedorn temperature of the associated thermal theory. We also provide a general proof that the necessary and sufficient condition for classical stability is the vanishing of the sector averaged sum which implies Ceff = 0, in agreement with Dienes' conjecture. In this paper we complete the exploration of connected components of the space of BPS Wilson loops in three-dimensional N = 4 Chern-Simons-matter theory on S3. The algorithm is to start with a supersymmetric Wilson loop, choose a preserved supercharge, and look for BPS deformations built out of the matter fields in the proper representations. Using this, we discover many new moduli spaces of nonconformal BPS Wilson loops preserving a single or two supercharges, which are subsets of the symmetries of the 1/4 and 3/8 BPS operators. The Coon amplitude is a q-deformed generalization of the Veneziano amplitude exhibiting a semi-infinite sequence of poles that converge on an accumulation point, from which a branch cut emerges. A number of recent papers have provided compelling evidence that the residues of this amplitude satisfy the positivity requirements imposed by unitarity. This paper investigates whether positivity is also satisfied along the branch cut. It is demonstrated for a wide range of q-values that positivity violations occur in a region of the branch cut exponentially close to the accumulation point according to a scale set by q. The closing section of the paper discusses possible interpretations of this fact and strategies for excising negativity from the partial wave coefficients. In this paper, we study conformal points among the class of E -models. The latter are σ-models formulated in terms of a current Poisson algebra, whose Lie-theoretic definition allows for a purely algebraic description of their dynamics and their 1-loop RG-flow. We use these results to formulate a simple algebraic condition on the defining data of such a model which ensures its 1-loop conformal invariance and the decoupling of its observables into two chiral Poisson algebras, describing the classical left- and right-moving fields of the theory. In the case of so-called non-degenerate E -models, these chiral sectors form two current algebras and the model takes the form of a WZW theory once realised as a σ-model. The case of degenerate E -models, in which a subalgebra of the current algebra is gauged, is more involved: the conformal condition yields a wider class of theories, which includes gauged WZW models but also other examples, seemingly different, which however sometimes turn out to be related to gauged WZW models based on other Lie algebras. For this class, we build non-local chiral fields of parafermionic-type as well as higher-spin local ones, forming classical W -algebras. In particular, we find an explicit and efficient algorithm to build these local chiral fields. These results (and their potential generalisations discussed at the end of the paper) open the way for the quantisation of a large class of conformal E -models using the standard operator formalism of two-dimensional CFT. This paper presents a way to regularize the t-channel singularity (which appears when a massive, stable t-channel mediator of a given process is allowed to be on-shell, making the cross section infinite) in a general case of particles of any spin 0 1 2 1 interacting within a thermal medium. Those interactions result in a finite lifetime of the mediator and allow to introduce an effective momentum- and temperature-dependent width. As a result, the would-be-singular cross section becomes finite. A complete derivation and an analytical result for the width are provided. In this paper we focus on scattering amplitudes in maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and define a long sought-after geometry, the loop momentum amplituhedron, which we conjecture to encode tree and (the integrands of) loop amplitudes in spinor helicity variables. Motivated by the structure of amplitude singularities, we define an extended positive space, which enhances the Grassmannian space featuring at tree level, and a map which associates to each of its points tree-level kinematic variables and loop momenta. The image of this map is the loop momentum amplituhedron. Importantly, our formulation provides a global definition of the loop momenta. We conjecture that for all multiplicities and helicity sectors, there exists a canonical logarithmic differential form defined on this space, and provide its explicit form in a few examples. In this paper, we consider 3D Young diagrams with at most N layers in z-axis direction, which can be constructed by N 2D Young diagrams on slice z = j, j = 1, 2, · · · , N from the Yang-Baxter equation. Using 2D Bosons {aj,m, m ∈ ℤ} associated to 2D Young diagrams on the slice z = j, we constructed 3D Bosons.
