The cycloaddition reaction of 2allenylindoles 2with diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate 6was undertaken under both thermal and high pressure reaction conditions, leading to carbazole derivatives 5.

The palladium catalyzed crosscoupling reaction of indolylborates with various Nprotecting groups was investigated, where NMethyl, Nmethoxy, and Ntertbutoxycarbonyl groups were found to be useful. However, triethyl1methoxymethylindol2ylborate could not be used for this reaction. It was also found that the alkyl migration reaction of trialkyl1methoxymethylindol2ylborate produced 2alkyl1methylindole accompanied by the unexpected reduction of 1methoxymethyl group to 1methyl group.
