The article presents information on a 47-year-old man, who was admitted to hospital with abdominal discomfort and distension that was associated with nausea and vomiting. On examination it was found that there was diffuse abdominal tenderness with an apparent decrease in bowel sounds. On operation it was found that he had a strangulated Meckel's diverticulum with gangrene that was associated with a small bowel obstruction and blood-stained ascites.
