Hypochlorous acid (HClO), a highly reactive oxygen species, has important effects on human health. High selectivity and sensitivity remain challenges of fluorescent probes for detection of ClO− with a large Stokes shift. This work designed and synthesized a novel phenothiazine-based fluorescent probe TF which can detect ClO− by colorimetric and fluorescent dual signals. TF displayed turn-on fluorescence effect toward ClO− with high selectivity (≥ 28-folds) and sensitivity (LOD = 0.472 μM), fast response time (< 1 min) and large Stokes shift (150 nm) in PBS (pH = 7.4, 40% DMSO). Meanwhile, TF can visualize ClO− on the mung bean sprouts model and apply as testing strips for portable and rapid detecting ClO− by the naked eyes. Upon the Schiff base condensation reaction of imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-2-carbohydrazide and 2,5-dihydroxybenzaldehyde, a bimodal colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor 1o for assaying fluoride (F−) in DMSO was synthesized. The characterization of 1o structure was obtained by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS.The structure of 1o was characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS. Under the presence of various anions, 1o could be applied for naked-eye and fluorescent detection of F− (naked eye: colorless to yellow; fluorescence: dark to green) and displayed promising performance, such as high selectivity and sensitivity, as well as a low detection limit. Upon calculation, the detection limit of chemosensor 1o for F− was 193.5 nM, which is well below the allowed maximum value of F− (1.5 mg/L) by WHO. As the intermolecular proton transfer mechanism induced "turn-on" fluorescent signal and naked-eye color change of F− to 1o through deprotonation effect, which was confirmed by Job's plot curve, mass spectrometry and 1H NMR titration. Alternatively, the chemosensor 1o can be effectively manufactured into test strips to detect fluoride in solid state, which is user-friendly with no additional equipment required. A new diarylethene derivative 1O decorated with a salicylaldehyde hydrazine moiety was designed and synthesized successfully, and its structure was confirmed by NMR. Diarylethene 1O showed eminent photochromism and high selectivity and sensitivity for Al3+ with turn-on fluorescent performance. As the concentration of Al3+ in 1O solution increased, the color of solution remarkably changed from dark to bright green with 313-fold fluorescent emission intensity enhancement. The 1:1 combination stoichiometry between 1O and Al3+ was verified by Job's plot and MS analysis. The association constant between 1O and Al3+ was 3.9 × 102 mol−1 L, and the limit of detection toward Al3+ was 7.98 × 10–9 mol L−1. A novel diarylethene-based fluorescent chemosensor containing a quinoline unit (1o) had been designed and synthesized. 1o showed good photochromic ability and fluorescence switching properties by alternating UV/vis light irradiation. The chemosensor showed high "Turn-off" fluorescent selectivity for Hg2+ by competitive tests of the fluorescence reaction in the presence other ions in acetonitrile solution. The stoichiometry between the compound 1o and Hg2+ was 1:1 by Job's plot curve and HRMS analysis. In addition, the LOD for Hg2+ was calculated as 60 nM. The fluorescence emission can be back to the "Turn-on" state by adding EDTA. A novel fluorimetric and colorimetric chemosensor (1O) was synthesized with diarylethene-rhodamine unit and characterized by ESI–MS, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The chemosensor can selectively recognize extremely low concentrations of Hg2+ over a variety of metal ions with remarkable colorimetric and fluorescent responses. The colorimetric and fluorescent changes were ascribed the reaction between 1O and Hg2+ destructed the rhodamine hydrazide into open-ring form which was proved by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic titration analyses. The detection limits of the UV absorption and fluorescence methods for Hg2+ were found to be 0.708 μM and 24.6 nM, respectively. Moreover, the chemosensor exhibited excellent photochromism and outstanding fatigue resistance property under alternating UV and visible light irradiation. A novel donor–acceptor fluorescent sensor was designed and synthesized. The sensor exhibited high selectivity and sensitivity to Zn2+ in acetonitrile solution. When 3.0 equiv. of Zn2+ was added gradually, the emission intensity at 500 nm increased 54-fold, accompanied by the fluorescent color of the solution changed from dark to green. Job's plot and ESI-MS were carried out to verify a 1:1 stoichiometric complex was formed between the sensor and Zn2+. The limit of detection (LOD) to Zn2+ was measured to be 2.81 × 10−9 mol L−1. Moreover, the sensor not only could be used to detect Zn2+ in practical water samples with high accuracy, but also could be made into test paper for the qualitative detection for Zn2+. An iminocoumarin and tetraphenylethylene compound that exhibits aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and a significant Stokes shift (Δλ = 135 nm) in THF was created via the Knoevenagel condensation method. TPICBT could also be used as a ratiometric near-infrared fluorescent probe for the naked color identification of F− and H2S. It showed a large red shift (˃ 90 nm), good selectivity, and anti-interference. Test strip detection and cell imaging had both been accomplished using the probe.
