Abstract

This article discusses the demographic aspects of urban-rural migration in post-famine Ireland and the decline of population in the 26 counties of the Republic. Pre-famine conditions such as comparatively low levels of urbanization and an occupational structure that depended on agriculture are given as contributing factors of population distribution.
