AbstractThe chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from Monarda didymastem with leaves and flowers was analyzed by GC and GC/MS and the components identified were 22, mainly thymol (57.3% and 51.7%, respectively), γ-terpinene (9.3% and 14.3%), p-cymene (10.5% and 9.7%), δ-3-carene (4.5% and 6.2%) and myrcene (3.7% and 3.7%). The two oils were qualitatively similar. The antifungal activity of the oil was evaluated against four phytopathogenic fungi by direct contact with the Agar diffusion method and with the fungistatc action of the vapors using the Micro-atmosphere method. The most sensitive fungus resulted Rhizoctonia solaniin the first test and Botrytis cinereain the second. The antioxidant activity of the oil was evaluated by DPPH test, were the oil showed an effect comparable to Trolox, and by lipid peroxidation test, where the activity of the oil was similar to that of BHT.

AbstractThe essential oil isolated from plantlets of Thymus mastichinaL. ssp. mastichinacultured in vitro was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The oil was characterized by the richness of 1,8-cineole (55.5%) and linalool (24.5%). These results are in accordance with the chemical composition previously reported for this taxon. The oil showed antifungal activity against eight pathogenic fungi of die genus Fusariumwith MICs and MFCs ranging from 1500 to 2100 μg/mL and from 2.0 to 2.4 mg/mL, respectively.

AbstractThe composition of the essential oil obtained from epigean parts of Bupleurum fruticosumL., found in Cyrenaica (Libya), was studied by GC and GC/MS. The oil was found to be rich in α-pinene (15.3%) and β-phellandrene (49.3%). A comparison of the qualitative/quantitative composition of our oil with those of oils of the same origin studied previously highlighted several differences which, although not of a substantial nature, definitively confirmed that bupleurol must not be considered a naturally occurring compound but rather an artificial one.

ABSTRACTThe composition of the essential oil of stem and leaves of Bupleurum fruticosumL. was investigated by capillary GC and GC/MS. It was determined that the composition of these two oils was quite different, although the secretory system forms a coherent network between the stem and the leaves. The stem essential oil was found to contain 22 compounds (one of them was not identified) while only 14 compounds were identified in the leaf oil.

AbstractThe essential oils of the two subspecies glandulosaand nepetaof Calamintha nepeta(L.) Savi are known to contain a p-menthane skeleton oxygenated in the C-3 position. The particular richness in piperitone oxide of the essential oil obtained from a sample of the ssp. nepetacollected in Urbino (Italy) allowed a chemotaxonomic distinction to be made between these subspecies.
