Purpose: Differences in annual publication counts may reflect the dynamic of scientific progress. Declining annual numbers of publications may be interpreted as missing progress in field-specific knowledge. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, we present empirical results on dynamics of progress in economic fields (defined by Journal of Economic Literature (JEL), codes) based on a methodological approach introduced by Bornmann and Haunschild (2022). We focused on publications that have been published between 2012 and 2021 and identified those fields in economics with the highest dynamics (largest rates of change in paper counts). Findings: We found that the field with the largest paper output across the years is "Economic Development". The results reveal that the field-specific rates of changes are mostly similar. However, the two fields "Production and Organizations" and "Health" show point estimators which are clearly higher than the estimators for the other fields. We investigated the publications in "Production and Organizations" and "Health" in more detail. Originality/value: Understanding how a discipline evolves over time is interesting both from a historical and a recent perspective. Examines the characteristics of rejected manuscripts submitted to the "African Journal of Library, Archives and Information Science." Most of the papers were rejected because they contributed nothing new to knowledge (65.5%), used unreliable data (13.1%) and lacked focus (13.1%). There were no remarkable differences with regard to status and affiliations between authors of rejected and accepted papers. (Author/AEF)

Describes research regarding British authors' experience, attitudes, and perceptions of publishing in paper and in electronic journals. Questionnaires addressed current skills in information technology, peer review, and use of multimedia, and it is suggested that authors be involved in future research and debate on electronic serial publishing. Authors, publishers, libraries, and individual consumers have different, sometimes conflicting, needs for scientific and technical information that are met in varying degrees by different publishing media. A number of print and nonprint formats (full-text journals, synopsis journals, microform, CD-ROM, online, etc.) are compared, and combinations of formats for access are proposed. Purpose: The conditions that domain analysis becomes an academic school of information science (IS) are mature. Domain analysis is one of the most important foundations of IS. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and discuss metatheoretical and theoretical issues in the domain analytic paradigm in IS. Design/methodology/approach: This paper conducts a systematic review of representative publications of domain analysis. The analysis considered degree theses, journal articles, book chapters, conference papers and other materials. Findings: Domain analysis maintains that community is the new focus of IS research. Although domain analysis centers on the domain and community, theoretical concerns on the social and individual dimensions of IS are inherent in it by its using sociology as its important approach and socio-cognitive viewpoint. For these reasons domain analysis can integrate social–community–individual levels of IS discipline as a whole. The role of subject knowledge in IS is discussed from the perspective of domain analysis. Realistic pragmatism that forms the philosophical foundation of domain analysis is argued and the implications of these theories to IS are presented. Originality/value: The intellectual evolving landscape of domain analysis during a quarter century is comprehensively reviewed. Over the past twenty-five years, domain analysis has established its academic status in the international IS circle. Being an important metatheory, paradigm and methodology, domain analysis becomes the theoretical foundation of IS research.
