Abstract: Nanocrystalline V2O5 flake was simply synthesized via a citric acid assisted sol–gel method. The citric acid assistant improved the morphology and electrochemical performance of V2O5. TGA-DTA, XRD, SEM, TEM, CV and charge–discharge tests were used to characterize the as-prepared V2O5 powder. SEM and TEM images showed that the product had a stacked-up-flakes morphology. A high initial discharge specific capacity of 798mAh/g was obtained in the charge–discharge cycle. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

α-Fe2O3 (Hematite) nanoparticles with average diameter of 90 nm were synthesized by a low-temperature hydrothermal method. They were characterized by XRD, TEM, FESEM and infrared spectrum. The electrochemical tests were conducted between 3.0 and 0.3 V windows at different current densities. The results exhibit the excellent electrochemical performance of the as-prepared α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Layered single-crystalline LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2 nanostructures were synthesized through a citric acid-assisted sol–gel method. The results of XPS match well with the expected stoichiometric formula Ni0.5IIMn0.5IV. Electrochemical tests show that it delivers a large discharge capacity of 160.7 mA h g-1 vs. Li metal at 0.2 mA cm-2 (voltage window 2.5–4.5 V). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Large-scale α-LiFeO2 nanorods were synthesized via a molten salt synthesis method at low temperature. The structure and morphology of the product were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. And electrochemical tests were made at a current density of 0.1 mA cm−2 (voltage window 2.0–4.2 V). [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Nanocrystalline LiMn2O4 spinel was synthesized by a sol–gel method using citric acid as a chelating agent at the calcination temperature of 600°C for 10 h. The as-prepared LiMn2O4 was investigated by a variety of techniques, including X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectra. TEM images indicated that the average crystallite size is about 40 nm with a fairly narrow size-distribution. Results showed that the calcination temperature and the calcination time played significant roles in the formation of nanocrystalline LiMn2O4. A possible mechanism on the formation of the nanocrystallites was also discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: The micro-meter-sized Fe(1− x )S U-shaped slots can be successfully synthesized on a large scale from a β-cyclodextrin (CD)-assisted intercalation-induced growth process at 230°C for 48h, which uses the reaction of ferrocene, S and β-CD in ethylenediamine solvent. The structure, the morphology and the property of the products are derived from X-ray power diffraction (XRD) pattern, X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), scanning electronic microscope (SEM), transmission electronic microscope (TEM), thermal gravimetric (TG) analysis and magnetization measurement. The as-prepared magnetic Fe(1− x )S U-shaped slots are ferromagnetic and their magnetization at room temperature is ∼15emug−1. The possible growth mechanism for the micro-sized Fe(1− x )S U-shaped slots is discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

The wire-like Sb2Se3 microcrystallines can be synthesized via a simple PEG-400 polymer chain-assisted growth route in the temperature range of 160–180°C for 12–18 h in autoclave. X-ray power diffraction pattern gives the cell parameters of Sb2Se3 (a=11.629 A˚, b=11.779 A˚ and c=3.965 A˚), while the quantification of X-ray photoelectron spectra peaks gives the atomic ratio of the products as 2.27:3.00 for Sb:Se. Field emission scanning electronic microscope images show the as-obtained wire-like Sb2Se3 are with the typical lengths in the range of several tens micrometers, and selected area electronic diffraction pattern confirms the single crystal nature of the Sb2Se3 microwires. The chain structures of PEG-400 polymers are found to be morphology-directors on the growth process of the Sb2Se3 microwires. The pH, the reaction temperature and sodium tartrate are found to be key factors in the purity of the products. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
