Introduction: Appropriate treatment of scalp arteriovenous malformations (SAVMs) remains largely unclear given the rarity of reported cases. This single-institution case series presents consecutive patients with extracranial SAVMs and long-term follow up.The primary aim of this study was to review treatment decisions, evaluate clinical outcomes, and compare our experience to available literature in order to better understand SAVMs and improve future outcomes., Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of consecutive patients with extracranial SAVMs between January 2015 and December 2019 was performed. Treatment factors of interest included embolization method, embolic agents, and decision to proceed with surgical resection. Relevant clinical outcomes included recurrence rates, cure rates, and complications., Results: Seven patients were included in the present series. Satisfactory outcomes were ultimately achieved for all 7 patients using embolization with or without combined surgical resection. Embolizations performed in combination with resection were curative in 4 of 4 cases (100%). Embolizations performed without resection were curative in 0 of 4 cases (0%), satisfactory in 2 of 4 cases (50%), and unsatisfactory in 2 of 4 cases (50%)., Discussion: All SAVM patients in this series were treated satisfactorily using embolization with or without operative resection. This study strongly suggests that embolization combined with surgical resection during the same admission yields the best treatment outcomes for SAVMs, specifically demonstrating lower rates of recurrence and embolization-related complications. Objective: Head and neck are the predilection sites of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Although embolization is the first-line treatment for AVMs, complete surgical removal of the lesion still has its value due to the best outcome with low recurrence rate. Here, the authors made a retrospective analysis on the surgical treatment of AVMs in the head and neck., Methods: From January 2006 to December 2019, a total of 18 patients with AVMs in the head and neck were enrolled in this study, including 10 males. The Schobinger clinical staging, Yakes' angioarchitecture type, and surgical treatment were analyzed. The follow-up data were collected. Then, individual treatment strategies were summarized., Results: According to Schobinger clinical classification system, 6 patients were at stage I, 7 patients at stage II, and 5 patients at stage III. According to Yakes' AVM classification system, 3 Type I, 4 Type II, 5 Type III, and 3 Type IV were confirmed. 3 patients cannot be confirmed due to lacking of arteriographic data. Surgical treatments included simple surgical excision (8 patients), dilator therapy (6 patients), and skin grafting after surgical excision (4 patients). In the follow-up period, 2 patients had recurrence and accepted operation again. Abstract: Auricular arteriovenous malformation (AVM) occasionally accompanies macrotia. Here, the authors report a case of AVM with macrotia that was treated with transcatheter arterial embolization, percutaneous sclerotherapy, and subsequent otoplasty following partial resection. A 46-year-old man presented with Schobinger stage III AVM. After transcatheter arterial embolization of the feeding arteries using n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, 9 sessions of sclerotherapy were performed using 3% polidocanol foam. Partial resection of the AVM nidus and subsequent otoplasty for ear reduction were performed at the age of 50 years. Two years later, the remnant nidus was resected and the protruding ear was surgically corrected. Large head and neck arteriovenous malformations are notoriously difficult to manage given their location and propensity for extreme hemorrhage. We propose a unique approach utilizing a Hyperform balloon and percutaneous Surgiflo sclerotherapy to provide intraoperative hemostatic stability during the excision of a left-sided scalp arteriovenous malformation. In a hybrid operating room a microcatheter balloon was fed into the left external carotid artery for occlusion of the malformation's main blood supply, and subsequently followed with digital subtraction angiography guided sclerotherapy of selective vessels. A split thickness graft was used to reconstruct the site of excision. This method offered optimal hemostatic control with a blood loss less than 120 cc. Our approach may offer safety advantages over traditional modalities and allow resection of head and neck lesions previously thought to be inoperable.

Background: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are high flow vascular anomalies that are difficult to manage given their high recurrence rate. At this time, the optimal treatment of AVMs involves embolization and surgical resection. However, few studies have examined patient outcomes after a delayed surgical resection approach., Methods: A retrospective chart review of all patients presenting to a single institution with vascular malformations from 2000 to 2016 was performed. Patients with facial AVMs that underwent operative management were included. Records were reviewed for patient characteristics, lesion natural history, operative timing after embolization (<72 vs >72 hours), and outcomes., Results: 11 patients fulfilled the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Nine patients were female, with an average age at resection of 29.1 years. Three patients had hemi/mid-facial AVMs, 1 patient had a nasal AVM, 3 patients had labial AVMs, 1 patient had an AVM on the chin, and 1 had a periorbital AVM. Average time between embolization and primary resection was 8.6 days (range 1-24). No complications requiring reoperation occurred in any patient. Average follow-up was 32.6 months, with 2 recurrences at a mean of 47.6 months. Timing of resection, Schobinger stage, and resection completeness did not significantly affect recurrence (P >0.05). Lesion size >6 cm in any dimension was significantly associated with recurrence (P = 0.018)., Conclusion: Compared to early resection, delayed (>72 h) surgical resection after embolization of facial AVMs is a viable treatment option and results in non-inferior recurrence rates (25 vs 14% respectively over a 40-month period).

Objective: At present, large cranial function area arteriovenous malformation (fAVM) is mainly treated by craniotomy with a high risk of operation and high disability. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the neural intervention technology, fractionated transcatheter arterial embolization (fTAE) may be used to treat the fAVM instead of surgical treatment. However, its effectiveness for treating fAVM has never been explored. The authors hypothesized that fTAE can be effective in the treatment of fTAE., Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in 229 cases of large fAVM in multicenter hospitals. Among them, 103 cases were performed fTAE and the other 126 cases were carried on minimally invasive craniotomy (MIC). Clinically relevant symptomatic improvement and complications were compared between 2 groups., Results: Complete resection rate of arteriovenous malformation in MIC group (100%) was significantly higher than that of complete embolization rate in fTAE group (77.7%) (P = 0.000). However, the incidence of postoperative complications includes decreased limb muscle strength (P = 0.001), sensory loss of extremities (P = 0.003), visual field defect (P = 0.025) that were lower in fTAE group and remission rate of headache (P = 0.012) but not epilepsy (P = 0.952) was higher in fTAE group compared with that in MIC group. After 1 year follow-up, the rebleeding rate in the fTAE treatment group was 4.85%, higher than that in MIC group (0%) (P = 0.000)., Conclusions: Fractionated transcatheter arterial embolization therapy is beneficial for reducing the postoperative complications and preoperative symptoms of fAVM, but not for recurrence rate.

Introduction: Venous malformation is a common tumor of the orbit, presenting with visual impairment and proptosis. These lesions can be excised via an external or transcranial approach, but recent advances in minimally invasive surgery have led to increased popularity of endoscopic approach., Patient: The authors report a 62-year-old female presenting with diplopia and proptosis, found to have a 1.7-cm venous malformation of the orbital apex. An endoscopic trans-nasal approach was undertaken for surgical resection., Results: The tumor was successfully removed in a single specimen, without injury to the nearby orbital anatomy. The patient experienced resolution of her presenting symptoms 3 weeks after the procedure, with no adverse effects. A review of the literature demonstrates increasing reports of similar successful cases., Conclusion: A minimally invasive, endoscopic resection of orbital venous malformation is possible and provides a reasonably safe and effective approach. Further large-scale studies are needed to fully explore its outcomes relative to traditional approaches.

Background and Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the vascular malformations of the head and neck. They are uncommon lesions, but some areas have a significant potential for fatality, due to their massive bleeding. The vascular anatomy of the nose carries a high recurrence rate, due to the unique characteristic of the nose, especially if deep vascular connection is present., Methods: The present article describes 2 patients of nasal dorsum arteriovenous malformations, both using a combined procedure: preoperative selective embolization, en-bloc tumor resection, and reconstruction with a forehead flap. Two female patients with arterio-venous malformations of the nose were examined, subjected to excision procedure and forehead flap reconstruction. Current treatment requires surgical resection of the nose and in conjunction with adjunctive endovascular embolization; it reduces arterio-venous malformations recurrence., Results: The authors report an endovascular and surgical technique to treat nasal arterio-venous malformations, which permits a complete resection and a reconstruction with a forehead flap. There were no major complications such as recurrent ulceration, infection, postoperative bleeding, or flap failure. All the patients responded positively and satisfactory results were achieved in both female patients., Conclusions: To reduce the recurrence of arterio-venous malformations, the multidisciplinary therapy is mandatory. Recent advances in microsurgery and interventional radiology have greatly improved prognosis for patients with arterio-venous malformations. Therefore, a preoperative selective embolization followed by surgical excision seems to be a good compromise for arterio-venous malformations therapy. The forehead flap, for its characteristics, represents the better choice for nasal reconstruction.

Craniofacial arteriovenous malformation (AVM), although very rare, has been a very difficult problem to treat especially when it is large and involves important structures. Surgical resection often results in unacceptable complications but still not curative. At our institution, treatment by combined intralesional neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser and intratumoral ligation has been successful in venous malformation. This minimally invasive technique was then applied to more challenging AVM on the head and neck. Disease control was studied using clinical parameters and magnetic resonance imaging.Four patients with moderate-to-severe (Schobinger 2-4) craniofacial AVM were treated by this technique from 2001 to 2011. Patient age ranged from 2 to 51 years (mean: 25 years). After 2 to 4 treatments and follow-up period of 1456 days, 3 (75%) were cured. One of them was infant with huge mass and secondary pulmonary hypertension. Clinical cure was achieved after 3 treatments without residual cardiovascular compromise. The other patient (25%) had cheek mass with intraorbital involvement. The authors did not treat periorbital lesion so as to avoid triggering intraorbital spreading. The rest of the cheek lesion was clinically and radiologically cured.Laser energy setting, ablative technique, and skin cooling are the main factors determining the success. Individualized laser settings and properly set endpoints can increase treatment effectiveness in shorter period. In conclusion, this minimally invasive technique was successful in curing AVM without complication. With more clinical study and development of soft tissue monitoring tools, it is possible that intralesional laser could become the treatment of choice for all cutaneous AVM.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the maxilla are rare and potentially life-threatening conditions that can pose a therapeutic dilemma. We reported the first case of maxillary AVM in a 15-year-old girl who was treated by marginal hemimaxillectomy including overlying palatal mucosa and immediate replantation of the segment after removing the AVM tissues and teeth and covering by a full-thickness pedicled temporal muscle flap rotated into the mouth. Then, this preserved bone underwent distraction osteogenesis and dental implant rehabilitation successfully. This method was previously used for the definitive treatment of mandibular AVMs, and in this case, we applied this method for the first time in maxillary AVMs. In conclusion, this surgical method may be considered as a safe, convenient, and effective treatment and reconstructive modality for such vascular malformations in the maxilla and restores function and symmetry of the jaws while obviating the need for bone harvesting and future major reconstructive operations.

A spindle cell hemangioendothelioma is a relatively uncommon lesion, especially on the head and neck. Recurrence occurs after local excision of 50% to 60% of these lesions; therefore, it is important to recognize this unusual neoplasm and avoid misdiagnosis. Here, we report a rare case of a spindle cell hemangioendothelioma of the head. A 37-year-old woman presented with a soft subcutaneous mass, 2.5 cm in size, on her right occipital region. The mass pulsated strongly and a thrill was present. Magnetic resonance imaging showed that some dilated feeding arteries flowed into the mass and that a flow-void sign was present. The lesion looked like an arteriovenous malformation, and a marginal resection was performed. Histologically, there was a mix of cavernous vascular cavities and Kaposi sarcomalike spindle cell vascular zones, which is compatible with a spindle cell hemangioendothelioma.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are composed of abnormally connecting feeding arteries as well as draining veins and lack a regulatory system. Frequent recurrences and unpredictable behavior are their main problems. Potential mortality and morbidity associated with therapeutic procedures must be considered with these patients. Improper treatment often aggravates the condition, potentially rendering therapy more complex. A multidisciplinary approach, including an endovascular approach, surgical excision, and flap reconstruction, is considered to completely eradicate an AVM. This study introduces a complicated case of AVM with massive bleeding through the external auditory canal that was treated with a multidisciplinary approach.

Carotid body paraganglioma has considerable malignant potential and locally aggressive behavior, so it should be treated as soon as it is discovered.We report the case of 60-year-old male patient with a carotid body paraganglioma (Shamblin group II) that was causing the carotid arteries to spread. Angiography showed 1 dominant feeding artery arising from the right external carotid artery. Selective angiography was performed 2 days before surgical removal of the tumor, and the feeding artery was successfully embolized with coils.Literature review reveals previous reports where preoperative embolization of the feeding arteries was done using ethanol, polymers, or other liquid agents. In our case, angiography (via femoral artery) was performed 2 days before surgical removal of the tumor, and the main feeding artery (a single branch arising from external carotid artery) was successfully embolized with coils rather than liquids.Performing coil embolization before operating reduced subsequent blood loss and made it easier to identify the feeding artery during surgery. Supraselective coiling, although as difficult as embolization with liquids, may reduce the incidence of postoperative stroke. At 1 year after surgery, the patient had no signs of tumor recurrence.

Arterial venous malformations (AVMs) are rare conditions that are difficult to manage. Therapeutic options include selective embolization with or without surgical excision. Recurrence, however, is high despite correction of the primary abnormality. Cosmetic concern is among the indications for treatment, particularly if the AVM occurs on the face or scalp. Historically, AVM excision and the residual defect correction have been performed separately. We present the first case reported of a successful embolization and interval excision with immediate reconstruction using a dermal fat graft, as a novel approach to correct soft tissue defect following the resection of an AVM. A 35-year-old man presented with a 20-year history of a nonpulsating mass posterior to the hairline in the right frontoparietal region, measuring 4.0 cm on its longest axis. Embolization of the AVM was achieved by injecting N-butyl cyanoacrylic acid and ethiodol. One month after embolization, surgical excision of the mass was performed. The resulting disfiguring contour defect was immediately corrected using a dermal fat graft harvested from the groin. At 4 months' follow-up, the graft was viable with no evidence of resorption or epidermal cyst formation. In addition, there was no recurrence of the AVM and no complications at the donor site. This case demonstrates the utility of a dermal fat grafts in correcting the impending defect in 1 stage avoiding a second-stage procedure and significant period of cosmetic disfigurement. This method should be considered as a treatment option for patients requiring moderately sized AVM excisions in cosmetically sensitive areas.

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a vascular abnormality resulting in the development of abnormal connection between an artery and vein without capillary connections. An AVM develops mainly intracranially. Extracranial AVMs are rarely seen. Cheek, ear, nose, auricle, and forehead are the more common sites in the extracranial involvement. They cause cosmetic problems when located in the head and neck region. We report a case of a giant AVM in the floor of the mouth, which has not been specified and has not been reported until now. The lesion, in an elderly man, was supplied by multiple vessels and caused difficulty in speaking and swallowing. The lesion was totally excised after embolization of feeding vessels.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are uncommon errors of vascular morphogenesis. Hemodynamically, they are high-flow lesions. Approximately 50% of AVMs are located in the craniofacial region. The successful treatment of vascular anomalies depends on the profound knowledge of the biologic behavior of vascular lesions and their correct classification. Vascular malformations that persist lifelong require treatment in most cases, especially when clinical symptoms occur. On the basis of individual parameters such as the diameter, location, or growth behavior, different therapeutic options such as cryotherapy, corticosteroids, laser therapy, sclerotherapy, surgical intervention, and/or embolization can be performed successfully. Subtotal excision or proximal ligation of the feeding vessel frequently results in rapid progression of the AVMs. Hence, the correct treatment consists of highly selective embolization (superselective) followed by complete resection 24 to 48 hours later. Reconstructive procedures in the head and neck region use a wide range of flaps for defect closure. The methods range from local, mostly fasciocutaneous flaps and skin grafts, to free microsurgical flaps. To ensure a satisfactory functional and aesthetic result, good texture and color of the flap are always essential. Moreover, the donor-site defect needs to be reduced, with no resulting functional or aesthetic impairment. The supraclavicular flap has been used successfully for difficult facial reconstruction cases, providing acceptable results without using microsurgical techniques. We treated 2 patients with facial AVM by this method. Both of the lesions were located within the cheek and lip. There were no procedure-related complications, and the cosmetic results were excellent.

The defect left after the resection of an extensive venous malformation in the cheek was reconstructed with a combined neurovascular gracilis muscle and patched jejunal free flap. At 25-year follow-up, the patient demonstrated good oral competence, had an adequate oral aperture allowing dental hygiene, and had symmetrical corners of the mouth.

Management of high-flow arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the oral and maxillofacial region, one of the greatest challenges facing oral and maxillofacial surgeons, is patient-specific in almost all cases. The aim of this study was to review our experience with superselective intra-arterial embolization followed by surgical resection and bone wax packing (BWP) of the bone cavity and curettage to manage AVM. Sixteen patients with AVM of the oral and maxillofacial region were included in this study. All patients were evaluated with preoperative angiography, and superselective intra-arterial embolization of the lesions was done in the same session by the same interventional radiologists. Forty-eight to 72 hours later, surgical resection of the soft-tissue vascular lesions and BWP of the bone cavity and curettage were performed. There were no complications related to either the preoperative angiography or the embolization procedure. The pulsation and noise were absent, and the hemorrhage disappeared. Followed up after the surgical treatment for a mean of 38 months (range, 7-63 months), 14 cases were controlled and 2 were improved, and no case was persistent or recurred. Superselective intra-arterial embolization followed by surgical resection and BWP of the bone cavity and curettage was an effective therapy in the oral and maxillofacial region.

Vascular malformations can be categorized into low-flow lesions and high-flow lesions according to blood flow volume. Arterial lesions such as arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are generally high-flow lesions. Arteriovenous malformations are high-flow vascular anomalies consisting of a nidus or a network of abnormal vascular channels between feeding arteries and draining veins. Arteriovenous malformations become destructive progressively by compression or erosion of surrounding tissue by itself. Angiography is the most important diagnostic technique for determination of location and flow characteristics of vascular lesions. Embolization is used preoperatively to decrease the size of AVM and reduce the extent of surgical excision. The modern treatment of AVM requires multidisciplinary study between the surgeon and vascular radiologist. We reported an early diagnosed AVM at the lower lip, and it was resected totally intraorally without any complication and morbidity.

Arteriovenous malformation is a tumor characterized by direct connection between an artery and vein without capillaries in-between, and it is commonly located intracranially. Intramuscular arteriovenous malformations are rare in the head and neck region. Less than 1% of the vascular tumors are localized in a muscle, 15% of them are in the head and neck muscles. Among the head and neck muscles, masseter muscle is the most common location, with the rate of 4.9%. The condition of a 36-year-old patient who applied to our clinic with the complaints of progressively increasing pain and progressively growing mass in the right cheek that appeared 1.5 years ago was diagnosed as arteriovenous malformation located in the masseter muscle. After preoperative embolization, the mass was successfully treated with total excision. In this case report, diagnostic and therapeutic tools addressing arteriovenous malformation located in the masseter muscle are discussed in the light of current literature.

Plastic and reconstructive surgery challenges the surgeon in ways often difficult to comprehend. Not only does the surgeon have to perfect the appropriate techniques for the surgical intervention, but he/she also assesses the patient with the eye of the artist and the mind of a psychoanalyst. Working with children and adolescents and their parents requires even more complex skills because it is required to assume the position of the parent to interpret their wishes, hopes, and fears. Over decades, John Mulliken has been the exemplar of the surgeon able to take on these manifold challenges. Dr Mulliken's special focus on healing the cleft lip and palate has offered to generations of young people and their families a life freer of the complex and sometimes devastating consequences of living with a deformity. Moving for ever earlier intervention, Dr Mulliken broke new ground surgically but from a psychological perspective offered the chance to avoid a host of psychological problems. Dr Mulliken's surgical intervention for nevi and other vascular malformations has had a long-lasting psychological impact on the lives of children. This article traces the place of plastic and surgical reconstructive surgery as a field intertwined with the psychological development of the individual and describes the ways in which Dr Mulliken's approaches have enhanced the well-being of so many.

We describe an aggressive median mandibulotomy approach for a sublingual arteriovenous malformation. Sublingual region is very rare location for arteriovenous malformation and requires special attention. The median mandibulotomy approach provides us with a wide surgical field for the resection of sublingual lesions. The procedure is easy and safe and, after dysfunction, is minimal. Preoperative transarterial embolization is recommended to reduce intraoperative blood loss.

Intraorbital arteriovenous malformations are infrequent but, when present, typically require complex surgical management. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging help characterize lesion structure, location, and relationship to intraorbital anatomy. Frequently complex, intervention should be prompted by significant proptosis, increased intraocular pressure, pain, bleeding, ulceration, or high-output cardiac complications. For more controlled surgical debridement, angiographic embolization may help occlude the nidus and feeding vessels temporarily. Utmost caution must be taken to avoid injury to the optic nerve and ophthalmic artery. We present a rare case of complex, intraorbital arteriovenous malformation, as well as discuss aspects of management and relevant literature.

Vascular malformations of the orbit cause significant morbidity such as chronic pain, diplopia, amblyopia, and cosmetic disfigurement. They are rare lesions which require multidisciplinary care, and in the modern era results of treatment have been greatly improved with the assistance of endovascular therapy. Other treatment options include laser therapy, percutaneous embolization, open surgery, or a combination of these modalities. Nevertheless some patients suffer poor results despite modern medical advances. A case of an orbital arteriovenous malformation (AVM) initially treated independently by a dermatologist, a plastic surgeon, and a neuroendovascular interventionalist is presented. When treating patients with these rare but disabling lesions it is of the highest importance to coordinate efforts between all pertinent specialists in order to promote the best possible result.

Vascular anomalies can be classified into two unique groups, hemangiomas and vascular malformations, based on their endothelial properties. The present review will focus on the four most common vascular malformations of the trunk presenting to the Plastic Surgeon: capillary malformations, lymphatic malformations, venous malformations, and arterovenous malformations. We define the trunk as chest, abdomen and back; the principles of breast reconstruction will not be discussed as they have been extensively covered in other publications. Diagnostic and therapeutic modalities will be discussed with pertinent case examples.

Arteriovenous malformations are high flow lesions that remain a challenge in the field of plastic surgery, interventional radiology, and neurosurgery. This is especially true for large lesions requiring a comprehensive team approach. From March 2001 to August 2004, six patients with arteriovenous malformation having extensive involvement of the skin underwent selective embolization followed by resection and reconstruction with anterolateral thigh perforator flap. The age of patients ranged from 22 to 43 years (average, 29 years); four were male and two were female. The size of the defect ranged from 8 x 10 cm to 12 x 14 cm. During the follow-up period from 3 months to 41 months, two patients required ancillary procedures to improve their aesthetic appearances. All patients achieved acceptable contour, appearance, and sensation without any incidence of recurrences. The anterolateral thigh perforator flap provides a large, thin and sensible flap. The anatomy of the flap is relatively constant and reliable. Despite the extensive involvement of arteriovenous malformation of the face, with selective embolization, maximal resection, and coverage with a well-vascularized tissue, it can be safely removed and successfully reconstructed.

A huge arteriovenous malformation (AVM) extending from the lower lip to the chin was surgically resected and the area was reconstructed during the same surgery in three patients. To control hemorrhage during surgery, a radiologist performed embolization of major arteries in the lesion 2 or 3 days before the surgery. After total resection of the AVM, facial reconstruction was performed by using a double cross lip flap from the upper lip and a local skin flap from the lower jaw. As a result, bleeding was well controlled, the AVM was totally resected, and satisfactory functional and esthetic results were obtained.

The seminal work of Mulliken and Glowacki in 1982 elucidated the histological differences between hemangiomas and vascular malformations: the former are characterized by endothelial cell proliferation, whereas the latter contain mature endothelial cells. Hemangiomas proliferate and then involute, whereas malformations remain stable in size, growing proportionally with the child. Vascular malformations are classified by the predominant vessel type within the lesion (capillary, venous, arterial, and lymphatic). Histological classification therefore correlates with clinical behavior. Treatment of hemangiomas is generally conservative; however, intervention may be required as a result of cosmetically concerning, function-threatening (e.g., interference with eyesight), or life-threatening (e.g., airway obstruction) lesions. Options include steroid therapy, laser treatment, and/or surgical excision. Vascular malformations do not involute and are more likely to require treatment. Treatment options include embolization and surgical resection. Understanding the clinical course of pediatric vascular lesions allows the surgeon to find an appropriate balance between watchful observation, providing reassurance when appropriate, and intervention when needed.

Sinus pericranii is an anomalous extracranial vascular malformation that is in continuity with the intracranial dural venous sinuses. Five case reports, three congenital and two traumatic, are described. Clinical management, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, is discussed. Awareness of this entity by plastic surgeons will allow for earlier diagnosis and appropriate surgical management, resulting in decreased risk of complications.

Two cases of intraosseous vascular anomalies of the mandible--including surgical treatment and 10-year follow-up--are reported. Early aggressive resection not only resulted in resolution of symptoms and restoration of facial symmetry but also exhibited significant osseous regeneration without grafting.
