Search

First order phase transitions in the early universe could produce a gravitational-wave background that might be detectable by the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). Such an observation would provide evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. We study the ability of LISA to observe a gravitational-wave background from phase transitions in the presence of an extragalactic foreground from binary black hole mergers throughout the universe, a galactic foreground from white dwarf binaries, and LISA noise. Modelling the phase transition gravitational wave background as a double broken power law, we use the deviance information criterion as a detection statistic, and Fisher matrix and Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods to assess the measurement accuracy of the parameters of the power spectrum. While estimating all the parameters associated with the gravitational-wave backgrounds, foregrounds, and LISA noise, we find that LISA could detect a gravitational-wave background from phase transitions with a peak frequency of 1 mHz and normalized energy density amplitude of Ωp ≃ 3 × 10-11. With Ωp ≃ 10-10, the signal is detectable if the peak frequency is in the range 4 × 10-4 to 9 × 10-3 Hz, and the peak amplitude and frequency can be estimated to an accuracy of 10% to 1%.

It is well known that non-trivial squeezed tensor bispectra can lead to anisotropies in the inflationary stochastic gravitational wave (GW) background, providing us with an alternative and complementary window to primordial non-Gaussianities (NGs) with respect to the CMB. Previous works have highlighted the detection prospects of parity-even tensor NGs via the GW $I$-mode anisotropies. In this work we extend this by analysing for the first time the additional information carried by GW $V$-mode anisotropies due to squeezed NGs. We show that GW $V$ modes allow us to probe parity-odd squeezed $\langle \rm tts \rangle$ and $\langle \rm ttt \rangle$ bispectra. These bispectra break parity at the non-linear level and can be introduced by allowing alternative symmetry breaking patterns during inflation, like those comprised in solid inflation. Considering a BBO-like experiment, we find that a non-zero detection of squeezed $\langle \rm tts \rangle$ parity-odd bispectra in the $V$ modes dipole is possible without requiring any short-scale enhancement of the GW power spectrum amplitude over the constraints set by the CMB. We investigate the sensitivity of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) to the anisotropies of the Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background (SGWB). We first discuss the main astrophysical and cosmological sources of SGWB which are characterized by anisotropies in the GW energy density, and we build a Signal-to-Noise estimator to quantify the sensitivity of LISA to different multipoles. We then perform a Fisher matrix analysis of the prospects of detectability of anisotropic features with LISA for individual multipoles, focusing on a SGWB with a power-law frequency profile. We compute the noise angular spectrum taking into account the specific scan strategy of the LISA detector. We analyze the case of the kinematic dipole and quadrupole generated by Doppler boosting an isotropic SGWB. We find that $\beta\, \Omega_{\rm GW}\sim 2\times 10^{-11}$ is required to observe a dipolar signal with LISA. The detector response to the quadrupole has a factor $\sim 10^3 \,\beta$ relative to that of the dipole. The characterization of the anisotropies, both from a theoretical perspective and from a map-making point of view, allows us to extract information that can be used to understand the origin of the SGWB, and to discriminate among distinct superimposed SGWB sources., Comment: 48 page + appendices, 13 figures

The recent observation of $^4$He favors a large lepton asymmetry at the big bang nucleosynthesis. If Q-balls with a lepton charge decay after the electroweak phase transition, such a large lepton asymmetry can be generated without producing too large baryon asymmetry. In this scenario, Q-balls dominate the universe before the decay and induces the sharp transition from the early matter-dominated era to the radiation-dominated era. In this transition, the gravitational waves (GWs) are enhanced through a second-order effect of the scalar perturbations. We evaluate the density of the produced GWs and show that pulsar timing array observations can probe this scenario depending on the amplitude of the scalar perturbations., 16 pages, 4 figures

The halo occupation distribution (HOD) framework is an empirical method to describe the connection between dark matter halos and galaxies, which is constrained by small scale clustering data. Efficient fitting procedures are required to scan the HOD parameter space. This paper describes such a method based on Gaussian Processes to iteratively build a surrogate model of the posterior of the likelihood surface from a reasonable amount of likelihood computations, typically two orders of magnitude less than standard Monte Carlo Markov chain algorithms. Errors in the likelihood computation due to stochastic HOD modelling are also accounted for in the method we propose. We report results of reproducibility, accuracy and stability tests of the method derived from simulation, taking as a test case star-forming emission line galaxies, which constitute the main tracer of the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument and have so far a poorly constrained galaxy-halo connection from observational data.

Cosmic birefringence is the in-vacuo rotation of the linear polarization plane experienced by photons of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation when theoretically well-motivated parity-violating extensions of Maxwell electromagnetism are considered. If the angle, parametrizing such a rotation is dependent on the photon's direction, then this phenomenon is called Anisotropic Cosmic Birefringence (ACB). In this paper, we perform for the first time a tomographic treatment of the ACB, by considering photons emitted both at the recombination and reionization epoch. This allows one to extract additional and complementary information about the physical source of cosmic birefringence with respect to the isotropic case. We focus here on the case of an axion-like field $\chi$, whose coupling with the electromagnetic sector induces such a phenomenon, by using an analytical and numerical approach (which involves a modification of the CLASS code). We find that the anisotropic component of cosmic birefringence exhibits a peculiar behavior: an increase of the axion mass implies an enhancement of the anisotropic amplitude, allowing to probe a wider range of masses with respect to the purely isotropic case. Moreover, we show that at large angular scales, the interplay between the reionization and recombination contributions to ACB is sensitive to the axion mass, so that at sufficiently low multipoles, for sufficiently light masses, the reionization contribution overtakes the recombination one, making the tomographic approach to cosmic birefringence a promising tool for investigating the properties of this axion-like field., Comment: 24 pages, 5 figures. The four-point correlation function of primordial scalar perturbations has parity-even and parity-odd contributions and the parity-odd signal in cosmological observations is opening a novel window to look for new physics in the inflationary epoch. We study the distinct parity-odd and even prediction from the axion inflation model, in which the inflaton couples to a vector field via a Chern-Simons interaction, and the vector field is considered to be either approximately massless ($m_A \ll $ Hubble scale $H$) or very massive ($m_A \sim H $). The parity-odd signal arises due to one transverse mode of the vector field being predominantly produced during inflation. We adopt the in-in formalism to evaluate the correlation functions. Considering the vector field mode function to be dominated by its real part up to a constant phase, we simplify the formulas for numerical computations. Dark gauge fields have been discussed as candidates for dark matter recently. If they existed, primordial dark magnetic fields during inflation would have existed. It is believed that primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) arise out of quantum fluctuations during inflation. We study the graviton-dark photon conversion process in the presence of background primordial dark magnetic fields and find that the process induces the tachyonic instability of the PGWs. As a consequence, a peak appears in the power spectrum of PGWs. It turns out that the peak height depends on the direction of observation. The peak frequency could be in the range from $10^{-5}$ to $10^{3}$ Hertz for GUT scale inflation. We present a Lagrangian model of galaxy clustering bias in which we train a neural net using the local properties of the smoothed initial density field to predict the late-time mass-weighted halo field. By fitting the mass-weighted halo field in the AbacusSummit simulations at z=0.5, we find that including three coarsely spaced smoothing scales gives the best recovery of the halo power spectrum. Adding more smoothing scales may lead to 2-5% underestimation of the large-scale power and can cause the neural net to overfit. We find that the fitted halo-to-mass ratio can be well described by two directions in the original high-dimension feature space. Projecting the original features into these two principal components and re-training the neural net either reproduces the original training result, or outperforms it with a better match of the halo power spectrum. The elements of the principal components are unlikely to be assigned physical meanings, partly owing to the features being highly correlated between different smoothing scales. Our work illustrates a potential need to include multiple smoothing scales when studying galaxy bias, and this can be done easily with machine-learning methods that can take in high dimensional input feature space., submitted to JCAP

Gravitational waves (GWs) emitted by binary sources are interesting signals for testing gravity on cosmological scales since they allow measurements of the luminosity distance. When followed by electromagnetic counterparts, in particular, they enable a reconstruction of the GW-distance-redshift relation. In the context of several modified gravity (MG) theories, even when requiring that the speed of propagation is equal to that of light, this GW distance differs from the standard electromagnetic luminosity distance due to the presence of a modified friction in the GW propagation. The very same source of this friction, which is the running of an effective Planck mass, also affects the scalar sector generating gravitational slip, i.e. a difference between the scalar potentials, an observable that can be inferred from large-scale structure (LSS) probes. In this work, we use a model within effective field theories for dark energy to exemplify precisely the fact that, at the linear perturbation level, parametrizing a single function is already enough to generate simultaneous deviations in the GW distance and the slip. By simulating multi-messenger GW events that might be detected by the Einstein Telescope in the future, we compare the constraining power of the two observables on this single degree of freedom. We then combine forecasts of a Euclid-like survey with GW simulations, coming to the conclusion that, when using Planck data to better constrain the cosmological parameters, those future data on the scalar and tensor sectors are competitive to probe such deviations from General Relativity, with LSS giving stronger (but more model-dependent) results than GWs., Comment: Published version

We present asevolution, a cosmological N-body code developed based on gevolution, which consistently solves for the (a)symmetron scalar field and metric potentials within the weak-field approximation. In asevolution, the scalar field is dynamic and can form non-linear structures. A cubic term is added in the symmetron potential to make the symmetry-broken vacuum expectation values different, which is motivated by observational tensions in the late-time universe. To study the effects of the scalar field dynamics, we also implement a constraint solver making use of the quasi-static approximation, and provide options for evaluating the background evolution, including using the full energy density averaged over the simulation box within the Friedmann equation. The asevolution code is validated by comparison with the Newtonian N-body code ISIS that makes use of the quasi-static approximation. There is found a very small effect of including relativistic and weak-field corrections in our small test simulations; it is seen that for small masses, the field is dynamic and can not be accurately solved for using the quasi-static approximation; and we observe the formation of unstable domain walls and demonstrate a useful way to identify them within the code. Wave-like dark matter made of spin-1 particles (dark photons) is expected to form ground state clumps called "vector solitons", which can have different polarizations. In this work, we consider the interaction of dark photons with photons, expressed as dimension-6 operators, and study the electromagnetic radiation that arises from an isolated vector soliton due to parametric resonant amplification of the ambient electromagnetic field. We characterize the directional dependence and polarization of the outgoing radiation, which depends on the operator as well as the polarization state of the underlying vector soliton. We discuss the implications of this radiation for the stability of solitons and as a possible channel for detecting mergers of vector solitons through astrophysical observations., Comment: 30 pages, 2 figures. We investigate the amplification of curvature perturbations in a two-field inflation model featuring a Gaussian potential bump. When the inflaton encounters a potential bump along the inflationary trajectory, its rolling speed is generally reduced, potentially causing a violation of the slow-roll condition. Consequently, the original decaying modes of comoving curvature perturbations during the slow-roll phase start growing, and lead to enhanced small-scale density perturbations which can produce amounts of primordial black holes (PBHs) and associated scalar-induced gravitational waves. In addition, inflaton also undergoes sudden turnings at the encounter of the Gaussian potential bump, which is insignificant to the overall curvature power spectrum due to the short duration of these turns. Dark matter that interacts strongly with baryons can avoid the stringent dark matter direct detection constraints, because, like baryons, they are likely to be absorbed when traversing the rocks, leading to a suppressed flux in deep underground labs. Such strongly interacting dark matter, however, can be probed by dark matter experiments or other experiments operated on the ground level or in the atmosphere. In this paper we carry out systematic analysis of two of these experiments, XQC and CSR, to compute the experimental constraints on the strongly interacting dark matter in the following three scenarios: (1) spin-independent and spin-dependent interactions; (2) different velocity dependent cross sections; (3) different dark matter mass fractions. Some of the scenarios are first analyzed in the literature. We find that the XQC exclusion region has some non-trivial dependencies on the various parameters and the limits in the spin-dependent case is quite different from the spin-independent case. A peculiar region in the parameter space, where the XQC constraint disappears, is also found in our Monte Carlo simulations. This occurs in the case where the interaction cross section is proportional to the square of the velocity. We further compare our XQC and CSR limits to other experimental constraints, and find that a large parameter space is allowed by various experiments if the dark matter mass fraction is sufficiently small, $f_\chi\lesssim 10^{-4}$., Comment: 26 pages, 13 figures. v2: added references, more CMB and Lyman-alpha constraints, conclusion unchanged

We discuss production of QCD axion dark matter in a novel scenario, which assumes time-varying scale of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking. The latter decreases as the Universe's temperature at early times and eventually stabilises at a large constant value. Such behavior is caused by the portal interaction between the complex field carrying Peccei-Quinn charge and a Higgs-like scalar, which is in thermal equilibrium with primordial plasma. In this scenario, axions are efficiently produced during the parametric resonance decay of the complex Peccei-Quinn field, relaxing to the minimum of its potential in the radiation-dominated stage. Notably, this process is not affected by the Universe's expansion rate and allows to generate the required abundance of dark matter independently of an axion mass. Phenomenological constraints on the model parameter space depend on the number density of radial field fluctuations, which are also generically excited along with axions, and the rate of their thermalization in the primordial plasma. For the ratio of radial field and axion particles number densities larger than $\sim 0.01$ at the end of parametric resonance decay, the combination of cosmological and astrophysical observations with the CAST limit confines the Peccei-Quinn scale to a narrow range of values $\sim 10^{8}~\mbox{GeV}$, - this paves the way for ruling out our scenario with the near future searches for axions., 28 pages, 3 figures; matches journal version

We use Functional Renormalisation Group (FRG) techniques to analyse the behaviour of a spectator field, $\sigma$, during inflation that obeys an overdamped Langevin equation. We briefly review how a derivative expansion of the FRG can be used to obtain Effective Equations of Motion (EEOM) for the one- and two-point function and derive the EEOM for the three-point function. We show how to compute quantities like the amplitude of the power spectrum and the spectral tilt from the FRG. We do this explicitly for a potential with multiple barriers and show that in general many different potentials will give identical predictions for the spectral tilt suggesting that observations are agnostic to localised features in the potential. Finally we use the EEOM to compute first-passage time (FPT) quantities for the spectator field. The EEOM for the one- and two-point function are enough to accurately predict the average time taken $\left\langle \mathcal{N}\right\rangle$ to travel between two field values with a barrier in between and the variation in that time $\delta \mathcal{N}^2$. It can also accurately resolve the full PDF for time taken $\rho (\mathcal{N})$, predicting the correct exponential tail. This suggests that an extension of this analysis to the inflaton can correctly capture the exponential tail that is expected in models producing Primordial Black Holes., Comment: 24 pages, 8 figures, 2 tables, 1 Appendix. Detecting stochastic background radiation of cosmological origin is an exciting possibility for current and future gravitational-wave (GW) detectors. However, distinguishing it from other stochastic processes, such as instrumental noise and astrophysical backgrounds, is challenging. It is even more delicate for the space-based GW observatory LISA since it cannot correlate its observations with other detectors, unlike today's terrestrial network. Nonetheless, with multiple measurements across the constellation and high accuracy in the noise level, detection is still possible. In the context of GW background detection, previous studies have assumed that instrumental noise has a known, possibly parameterized, spectral shape. To make our analysis robust against imperfect knowledge of the instrumental noise, we challenge this crucial assumption and assume that the single-link interferometric noises have an arbitrary and unknown spectrum. We investigate possible ways of separating instrumental and GW contributions by using realistic LISA data simulations with time-varying arms and second-generation time-delay interferometry. By fitting a generic spline model to the interferometer noise and a power-law template to the signal, we can detect GW stochastic backgrounds up to energy density levels comparable with fixed-shape models. Nielsen-Olesen vortices in the Abelian-Higgs (AH) model are the simplest realisations of cosmic strings in a gauge field theory. Large-scale numerical solutions show that the dominant decay channel of a network of AH strings produced from random initial conditions is classical field radiation. However, they also show that with special initial conditions, loops of string can be created for which classical field radiation is suppressed, and which behave like Nambu-Goto (NG) strings with a dominant decay channel into gravitational radiation. This indicates that cosmic strings are generically sources of both high-energy particles and gravitational waves. Here we adopt a simple parametrisation of the AH string network allowing for both particle and gravitational wave production. With a reference to a specific model for NG-like loop distribution, this sets the basis for a ``multi-messenger'' investigation of this model. We find that, in order to explain the NANOGrav detection of a possible gravitational wave background, while satisfying the constraint on NG-like loop production from simulations and bounds from the cosmic microwave background, the tension of the AH string in Planck units $G\mu$ and the fraction of the NG-like loops $f_{\rm NG}$ should satisfy $G\mu f_{\rm NG}^{2.6} \gtrsim 3.2\times 10^{-13}$ at 95$\%$ confidence. On the other hand, for such string tensions, constraints from the diffuse gamma-ray background (DGRB) indicate that more than 97$\%$ of the total network energy should be converted to dark matter (DM) or dark radiation. We also consider joint constraints on the annihilation cross-section, the mass, and the relic abundance of DM produced by decays of strings. We study three different extended scalar-tensor theories of gravity by also allowing a negative sign for the kinetic term for the scalar field in the Jordan frame. Our scope is to understand how the observational constraints for these models cope with the volume of the parameter space in which the theory is healthy. Models with a negative kinetic term lead to decreasing effective gravitational constant with redshift and behave as an effective relativistic component with a negative energy density as opposite to their corresponding version with a standard kinetic term. As a consequence, we find that the extended branch with a negative sign for the kinetic term correspond in general to lower $H_0$ and $\sigma_8$ compared to $\Lambda$CDM. We find that in all the cases with a negative sign for the kinetic term studied here, cosmological observations constrain these models around GR and prefer a volume of the parameter space in which the theory is not healthy since the scalar field behave as a ghost also in the related Einstein frame. We show that also in the phantom branch early modify gravity with a quartic coupling can substantially reduce the $H_0$ tension fitting the combination of cosmic microwave background data from Planck, baryon acoustic oscillations from BOSS and eBOSS, and Supernovae from the Pantheon sample with calibration information by SH0ES., Comment: 33 pages, 11 figures, 6 tables

We study for the first time the possibility of probing long-range fifth forces utilizing asteroid astrometric data, via the fifth force-induced orbital precession. We examine nine Near-Earth Object (NEO) asteroids whose orbital trajectories are accurately determined via optical and radar astrometry. Focusing on a Yukawa-type potential mediated by a new gauge field (dark photon) or a baryon-coupled scalar, we estimate the sensitivity reach for the fifth force coupling strength and mediator mass in the mass range $m \simeq (10^{-21}-10^{-15})\,{\rm eV}$, near the ``fuzzy'' dark matter region. Our estimated sensitivity is comparable to leading limits from equivalence principle tests, potentially exceeding these in a specific mass range. Furthermore, we set new constraints on Yukawa gravity. The fifth force-induced precession increases with the orbital semi-major axis in the limit of a small mass $m$, motivating the study of objects further away from the Sun. We discuss future prospects for extending our study to more than a million asteroids, including NEOs, main-belt asteroids, Hildas, and Jupiter Trojans, as well as trans-Neptunian objects and exoplanets., 2 figures, 1 table, 9 pages + references

If dark matter is millicharged or darkly charged, collective plasma processes may dominate momentum exchange over direct particle collisions. In particular, plasma streaming instabilities can couple the momentum of the dark matter to counter-streaming baryons or other dark matter and result in the counter-streaming fluids coming to rest with each other, just as happens for baryonic collisionless shocks in astrophysical systems. While electrostatic plasma instabilites (such as the two-stream) are highly suppressed by Landau damping when dark matter is millicharged, in the cosmological situations of interest, electromagnetic instabilities such as the Weibel can couple the momenta, assuming that the linear instability saturates in the manner typically found for baryonic plasmas. We find that the streaming of dark matter in the pre-Recombination universe is affected more strongly by direct collisions than collective processes, validating previous constraints. However, when considering unmagnetized instabilities the properties of the Bullet Cluster merger and other merging cluster systems (which show dark matter streaming through itself) are likely to be substantially altered if [qχ /mχ ] ≳ 10-4, where [qχ /mχ ] is the charge-to-mass ratio of the dark matter relative to that of the proton. When a magnetic field is added consistent with cluster observations, the Weibel and Firehose instabilities result in sufficiently fast growth to reach saturation for [qχ /mχ ] ≳ 10-12–10-11. The Weibel growth rates are even faster in the case of a dark-U(1) charge (because “hot” electrons do not damp the instability), potentially ruling out [qχ /mχ ] ≳ 10-14 in the Bullet Cluster system, in agreement with [1]. The strongest previous limits on millicharged dark matter (mDM) arise from considering the spin-down of galactic disks [2]. We show that plasma instabilities or tangled background magnetic fields could lead to diffusive propagation of the dark matter, weakening these spin-down limits. Thus, plasma instabilities may place some of the most stringent constraints over much of the millicharged, and our results corroborate previous extremely stringent potential constraints on the dark-charged parameter space.

Superfluid dark matter, consisting of self-interacting light particles that thermalize and condense to form a superfluid in galaxies, provides a novel theory that matches the success of the standard $\Lambda$CDM model on cosmological scales while simultaneously offering a rich phenomenology on galactic scales. Within galaxies, the dark matter density profile consists of a nearly homogeneous superfluid core surrounded by an isothermal envelope. In this work we compute the density profile of superfluid dark matter around supermassive black holes at the center of galaxies. We show that, depending on the fluid equation of state, the dark matter profile presents distinct power-law behaviors, which can be used to distinguish it from the standard results for collisionless dark matter., Comment: 25 pages, 2 figures. v2: matching version published in JCAP

We develop a pipeline to set new constraints on scale-independent modified gravity, from the galaxy power spectrum in redshift space of BOSS DR12. The latter is modelled using the effective field theory of large-scale structure up to 1-loop order in perturbation theory. We test our pipeline on synthetic and simulated data, to assess systematic biases on the inferred cosmological parameters due to marginalization and theoretical errors, and we apply it to the normal branch of the DGP model with a $\Lambda$CDM background. When applied to synthetic data and cosmological simulations, we observe biased posteriors due to the strong degeneracy between the nDGP parameter $\Omega_{\rm rc}$ and the primordial amplitude of fluctuations $A_s$. Fixing the latter to the Planck central value, we obtain a posterior distribution with $\Omega_{\rm rc}\lesssim 0.65$ at 95$\%$ C.L., under the assumption of a flat prior on $\log_{10} \Omega_{\rm rc}$. This upper bound, however, depends strongly on the prior on $\Omega_{\rm rc}$. To alleviate this effect, we provide an upper bound based on the Bayes factor between the nDGP model and $\Lambda$CDM model, which gives $\Omega_{\rm rc}\lesssim 0.2$ at 95$\%$ C.L.., Comment: 33 pages, 10 figures

We have taken a comprehensive approach to update the limits on the tensor-to-scalar ratio ($r$) and the tensor spectral index ($n_t$), using 10 datasets from the BICEP/Keck Array 2015 and 2018, Planck releases 3 and 4, and LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration. By fitting the complete $Λ$CDM+$r$+$n_t$ model with two different approaches for the tensor sector, we have not only established which method is the most reliable, but have also achieved the strongest constraint on the tensor-to-scalar ratio in current literature: $r, Version coherent with published one. We provide an algorithm and a publicly available code to numerically evolve multicomponent Schr\"{o}dinger-Poisson (SP) systems with a SO($n$) symmetry, including attractive or repulsive self-interactions in addition to gravity. Focusing on the case where the SP system represents the non-relativistic limit of a massive vector field, non-gravitational self-interactions (in particular spin-spin interactions) introduce complexities related to mass and spin conservation which are not present in purely gravitational systems. We address them with an analytical solution for the `kick' step in the algorithm, where we are able to decouple the multicomponent system completely. Equipped with this analytical solution, the full field evolution is second order accurate, preserves spin and mass to machine precision, and is reversible. Our algorithm allows for an expanding universe relevant for cosmology, and the inclusion of external potentials relevant for laboratory settings., Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, 4 appendices. We present growth of structure constraints from the cosmological analysis of the power spectrum multipoles of SDSS-III BOSS DR12 galaxies. We use the galaxy power spectrum model of Hand et al. (2017), which decomposes the galaxies into halo mass bins, each of which is modeled separately using the relations between halo biases and halo mass. The model combines Eulerian perturbation theory and halo model calibrated on $N$-body simulations to model the halo clustering. In this work, we also generate the covariance matrix by combining the analytic disconnected part with the empirical connected part: we smooth the connected component by selecting a few principal components and show that it achieves good agreement with the mock covariance. Our analysis differs from recent analyses in that we constrain a single parameter $f\sigma_8$ fixing everything else to Planck+BAO prior, thereby reducing the effects of prior volume and mismodeling. We find tight constraints on $f\sigma_8$: $f\sigma_8(z_{\mathrm{eff}}=0.38)=0.489 \pm 0.038$ and $f\sigma_8(z_{\mathrm{eff}}=0.61)=0.455 \pm 0.028$ at $k_{\mathrm{max}} = 0.2\ h$Mpc$^{-1}$, with an overall amplitude error of 5%, and in good agreement (within 0.3 sigma) of Planck amplitude. We discuss the sensitivity of cosmological parameter estimation to the choice of scale cuts, covariance matrix, and the inclusion of hexadecapole $P_4(k)$. We show that with $k_{\mathrm{max}} = 0.4\ h$Mpc$^{-1}$ the constraints improve considerably to an overall 3.2% amplitude error, but there is some evidence of model misspecification on MultiDark-PATCHY mocks. We study the effects of a massive field with a continuous spectrum (continuum isocurvaton) on the inflationary bispectrum in the squeezed limit. As a concrete example, we extend the quasi-single field inflation model to include a continuum isocurvaton with a well-motivated spectral density from extra dimensions and focus on a contribution to the bispectrum with a single continuum isocurvaton exchange. A plausible dark matter candidate is an ultralight bosonic particle referred to as fuzzy dark matter. The equivalent mass-energy of the fuzzy dark matter boson is $\sim 10^{-22}$eV and has a corresponding de Broglie wavelength of kiloparsec scale, thus exhibiting wave behaviour in scales comparable to a galactic core, which could not appear in conventional cold dark matter models. The presence of fuzzy dark matter in galactic clusters will impact the motion of their members through dynamical friction. In this work, we present simulations of the dynamical friction on satellites traversing an initially uniform fuzzy dark matter halo. We focus on the satellites whose shapes are beyond spherical symmetry described by ellipsoidal and logarithmic potentials. We find that the wakes created on the fuzzy dark matter halo due to the passage of such satellites are qualitatively different from those generated by spherically symmetric ones. Furthermore, we quantify the dynamical friction coefficient for such systems, finding that the same satellite may experience a drag differing by a factor of $5$ depending on its ellipticity and the direction of motion. Finally, we find that the dynamical friction time-scale is close to Hubble time, assuming a satellite of $10^{11}$M$_{\odot}$ traversing at $10^{3}$km/s a FDM halo whose mean density is $\sim 10^6$M$_{\odot}$kpc$^{-3}$., 17 pages, 7 figures, Accepted by JCAP

The atmosphere is one of the most important contamination sources in the ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) observations. In this paper, we study three kinds of filters, which are polynomial filter, high-pass filter, and Wiener filter, to investigate their ability for removing atmospheric noise, as well as their impact on the data analysis process through the end-to-end simulations of CMB experiment. We track their performance by analyzing the response of different components of the data, including both signals and noise. In the time domain, the calculation shows that the high-pass filter has the smallest root mean square error and can achieve high filtering efficiency, followed by the Wiener filter and polynomial filter. We then perform map-making with the filtered time ordered data (TOD) to trace the effects from filters on the map domain, and the results show that the polynomial filter gives high noise residual at low frequency, which gives rise to serious leakage to small scales in map domain during the map-making process, while the high-pass filter and Wiener filter do not have such significant leakage. Then we estimate the angular power spectra of residual noise, as well as those of the input signal for comparing the filter effects in the power spectra domain. Finally, we estimate the standard deviation of the filter corrected power spectra to compare the effects from different filters, and the results show that, at low noise level, the three filters give almost comparable standard deviations on the medium and small scales, but at high noise level, the standard deviation of the polynomial filter is significantly larger. Both ultralight dark matter and exploring the quantum nature of black holes are all topics of great interest in gravitational wave astronomy at present. The superradiant instability allows an exotic compact object (ECO) to be surrounded by an ultralight boson cloud, which leads to the emission of gravitational waves and further triggers rich dynamical effects. In this paper, we study the gravitational effects of superradiant instabilities by calculating the energy fluxes of gravitational waves emitted from ultralight scalar dark matter fields by solving the Teukolsky equation in the background of a massive ECO phenomenologically described by a Kerr geometry with a reflective boundary condition at its physical boundary. We find that both the amplitude and phase of the reflectivity will either suppress or enhance the energy flux of GWs by several orders of magnitude if $M\mu \gtrsim 0.5$ where $M$ and $\mu$ are the mass of ECO and boson, respectively. However, the modifications to energy flux are negligible if $M \mu \lesssim 0.5$. We investigate tomography of 21-cm brightness temperature fluctuations during the Dark Ages as a probe for constraining primordial non-Gaussianity. We expand the 21- cm brightness temperature up to cubic order in perturbation theory and improve previous models of the signal by including the effect of the free electron fraction. Using modified standard perturbation theory methods that include baryonic pressure effects we derive an improved secondary bispectrum and for the first time derive the secondary trispectrum of 21-cm brightness temperature fluctuations. We then forecast the amount of information available from the Dark Ages to constrain primordial non-Gaussianity, including the imprints of massive particle exchange during inflation and we determine how much signal is lost due to secondary non-Gaussianity. We find that although secondary non-Gaussianity swamps the primordial signal, primordial non-Gaussianity can still be extracted with signal-to-noise ratios that surpass current and future CMB experiments by several orders of magnitude, depending on the experimental setup. Furthermore, we conclude that for the bi- and trispectra of massive particle exchange marginalizing over other primordial shapes affects signal-to-noise ratios more severely than secondary shapes. Baryonic pressure effects turn out to have a negligible impact on our forecasts, even at scales close to the Jeans scale. In the general framework of Metric-Affine theories of gravity, where the metric and the connection are independent variables, we consider actions quadratic in the Ricci scalar curvature and the Holst invariant (the contraction of the Riemann curvature with the Levi-Civita antisymmetric tensor) coupled non-minimally to a scalar field. We study the profile of the equivalent effective metric theory, featuring an extra dynamical pseudoscalar degree of freedom, and show that it reduces to an effective single-field inflationary model. We analyze in detail the inflationary predictions and find that they fall within the latest observational bounds for a wide range of parameters, allowing for an increase in the tensor-to-scalar ratio. We perform a Bayesian study of a generalization of the basic $\alpha$-attractor T model given by the potential $V(\phi)=V_0\left[1-\text{sech}^{p}\left(\phi/\sqrt{6\alpha}M_{pl}\right)\right]$ where $\phi$ is the inflaton field and the parameter $\alpha$ corresponds to the inverse curvature of the scalar manifold in the conformal or superconformal realizations of the attractor models. Such generalization is characterized by the power $p$ which includes the basic or base model for $p=2$. Once the priors for the parameters of the $\alpha$-attractor potential are set by numerical exploration, we perform the corresponding statistical analysis for the cases $p=1\, , 2\, , 3\, ,4$, and derive posteriors. Considering the original $\alpha$-attractor potential as the base model, we calculate the evidence for our generalization, and conclude that the $p=4$ model is preferred by the CMB data. We also present constraints for the parameter $\alpha$. We present a simple procedure to obtain universal bounds for quantities of cosmological interest, such as the number of $e$-folds during inflation, reheating, and radiation, as well as the reheating temperature. The main assumption is to represent each of the various epochs of evolution of the universe as being due to a single substance changing instantaneously into the next, describing a new era of evolution of the universe. This assumption, commonly used to obtain solutions of the Friedmann equations for simple cosmological models, is implemented here to find model-independent bounds on cosmological quantities of interest. In particular, we find that the bound $N_k\approx 56$ for $-\frac{1}{3} < \omega_{re} < \frac{1}{3}$ is very robust as an upper bound on the number of $e$-folds during inflation and also as a lower bound when $\omega_{re} > \frac{1}{3}$, where $\omega_{re}$ is the effective equation of state parameter during reheating. These are model-independent results that any single-field model of inflation should satisfy. In supergravity, the dynamics of the sgoldstino -- superpartner of the goldstino superfield associated with the breaking of supersymmetry at low energy -- can substantially modify the dynamics of inflation in the primordial Universe. So-called sgoldstinoless models assume the existence of a nilpotency constraint $S^2=0$ that effectively removes the sgoldstino from the theory. Such models were proposed to realise non-oscillatory inflation scenarios with a single scalar field, which feature a long period of kination at the end of inflation, and therefore a non-standard post-inflationary cosmology. Using effective operators, we propose models in which the sgoldstino is stabilized close to the origin to reproduce the nilpotent constraint. We show that small sgoldstino fluctuations may lead to a sizeable back-reaction on the cosmological history. We study the effect of this back-reaction on the inflation observables measured in the cosmic microwave background and confront the model to a series of constraints including limits on $\Delta N_{\rm eff}$. We show that the peculiar form of the potential in the large supersymmetry breaking scale limit can generate peaks in the scalar power spectrum produced from inflation. We study how certain perturbation modes may re-enter the horizon during or after kination and show that a large supersymmetry breaking scale may lead to the formation of primordial black holes with various masses in the early Universe., Comment: 26 pages, 7 figures

Forward modeling approaches in cosmology have made it possible to reconstruct the initial conditions at the beginning of the Universe from the observed survey data. However the high dimensionality of the parameter space still poses a challenge to explore the full posterior, with traditional algorithms such as Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) being computationally inefficient due to generating correlated samples and the performance of variational inference being highly dependent on the choice of divergence (loss) function. Here we develop a hybrid scheme, called variational self-boosted sampling (VBS) to mitigate the drawbacks of both these algorithms by learning a variational approximation for the proposal distribution of Monte Carlo sampling and combine it with HMC. The variational distribution is parameterized as a normalizing flow and learnt with samples generated on the fly, while proposals drawn from it reduce auto-correlation length in MCMC chains. Our normalizing flow uses Fourier space convolutions and element-wise operations to scale to high dimensions. We show that after a short initial warm-up and training phase, VBS generates better quality of samples than simple VI approaches and reduces the correlation length in the sampling phase by a factor of 10-50 over using only HMC to explore the posterior of initial conditions in 64$^3$ and 128$^3$ dimensional problems, with larger gains for high signal-to-noise data observations., Comment: A shorter version of this paper is accepted for spotlight presentation in Machine Learning for Astrophysics Workshop at ICML, 2022

Gravitational waves (GWs) from compact binary coalescences provide an independent probe of the cosmic expansion history other than electromagnetic waves. In this work, we assume the binary black holes (BBHs) detected by LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA (LVK) collaborations are of primordial origin and constrain the population parameters of primordial black holes (PBHs) and Hubble parameter $H(z)$ using $42$ BBHs from third LVK GW transient catalog (GWTC-3). Three PBH mass models are considered: lognormal, power-law, and critical collapse PBH mass functions. By performing a hierarchical Bayesian population analysis, the Bayes factor strongly disfavors the power-law PBH mass function against the other two in GWTC-3. The constraints on standard $\Lambda{\rm CDM}$ cosmological parameters are rather weak and in agreement with current results. When combining the multi-messenger standard siren measurement from GW170817, the Hubble constant $H_0$ is constrained to be $69^{+19}_{-8}\, \mathrm{km}\, \mathrm{s}^{-1}\, \mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ and $70^{+26}_{-8}\, \mathrm{km}\, \mathrm{s}^{-1}\, \mathrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ at $68\%$ confidence for the lognormal and critical collapse mass models, respectively. Furthermore, we consider a mixed ABH+PBH model, in which we assume LVK BBHs can come from both the astrophysical black hole (ABH) and PBH channels. We find that the ABH+PBH model can better describe the mass distribution in GWTC-3 than any single ABH or PBH model, thus improving the precision to constrain the Hubble constant. We study the possibility of generating baryon asymmetry of the universe from dark matter (DM) annihilations during non-standard cosmological epochs. Considering the DM to be of weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) type, the generation of baryon asymmetry via leptogenesis route is studied where WIMP DM annihilation produces a non-zero lepton asymmetry. Adopting a minimal particle physics model to realise this along with non-zero light neutrino masses, we consider three different types of non-standard cosmic history namely, (i) fast expanding universe, (ii) early matter domination and (iii) scalar-tensor theory of gravity. By solving the appropriate Boltzmann equations incorporating such non-standard history, we find that the allowed parameter space consistent with DM relic and observed baryon asymmetry gets enlarged with the possibility of lower DM mass in some scenarios. Teleparallel geometry offers a platform on which to build up theories of gravity where torsion rather than curvature mediates gravitational interaction. The teleparallel analogue of Horndeski gravity is an approach to teleparallel geometry where scalar-tensor theories are considered in this torsional framework. Teleparallel gravity is based on the tetrad formalism. This turns out to result in a more general formalism of Horndeski gravity. In other words, the class of teleparallel Horndeski gravity models is much broader than the standard metric one. In this work, we explore constraints on this wide range of models coming from ghost and Laplacian instabilities. The aim is to limit pathological branches of the theory by fundamental considerations. It is possible to conclude that a very large class of models results physically viable.

The kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (kSZ) effect, i.e., the Doppler boost of cosmic microwave background (CMB) photons caused by their scattering off free electrons in galaxy clusters and groups with non-zero bulk velocity, is a powerful window on baryons in the universe. We present the first halo-model computation of the cross-power spectrum of the “projected-field” kSZ signal with large-scale structure (LSS) tracers. We compare and validate our calculations against previous studies, which relied on N-body-calibrated effective formulas rather than the halo model. We forecast results for CMB maps from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (AdvACT), Simons Observatory (SO), and CMB-S4, and LSS survey data from the Dark Energy Survey, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory (VRO), and Euclid. In cross-correlation with galaxy number density, for AdvACT × unWISE we forecast an 18σ projected-field kSZ detection using data already in hand. Combining SO CMB maps and unWISE galaxy catalogs, we expect a 62σ detection, yielding precise measurements of the gas density profile radial slopes. Additionally, we forecast first detections of the kSZ — galaxy weak lensing cross-correlation with AdvACT × VRO/Euclid (at 6σ) and of the kSZ — CMB weak lensing cross-correlation with SO (at 16σ). Finally, ≈ 10-20% precision measurements of the shape of the gas density profile should be possible with CMB-S4 kSZ — CMB lensing cross-correlation without using any external datasets.

We construct an analytically solvable simplified model that captures the essential features for primordial black hole (PBH) production in most models of single-field inflation. The construction makes use of the Wands duality between the constant-roll (or slow-roll) and the preceding ultra-slow-roll phases and can be realized by a simple inflaton potential of two joined parabolas. Within this framework, it is possible to formulate explicit inflationary scenarios consistent with the CMB observations and copious production of PBHs of arbitrary mass. We quantify the variability of the shape of the peak in the curvature power spectrum in different inflationary scenarios and discuss its implications for probing PBHs with scalar-induced gravitational wave backgrounds. The Lambda-Cold Dark Matter model explains cosmological observations most accurately till date. However, it is still plagued with various shortcomings at galactic scales. Models of dark matter such as superfluid dark matter, Bose-Einstein Condensate(BEC) dark matter and fuzzy dark matter have been proposed to overcome some of these drawbacks. In this work, we probe these models using the current constraint on the gravitational wave (GW) propagation speed coming from the binary neutron star GW170817 detection by LIGO-Virgo detector network and use it to study the allowed parameter space for these three models for Advanced LIGO+Virgo, LISA, IPTA and SKA detection frequencies. The speed of GW has been shown to depend upon the refractive index of the medium, which in turn, depends on the dark matter model parameters through the density profile of the galactic halo. We constrain the parameter space for these models using the bounds coming from GW speed measurement and the Milky Way radius bound. Our findings suggest that with Advanced LIGO-Virgo detector sensitivity, the three models considered here remain unconstrained. A meaningful constraint can only be obtained for detection frequencies $\leq 10^{-9}$ Hz, which falls in the detection range of radio telescopes such as IPTA and SKA. The search for sub-GeV dark matter (DM) particles via electronic transitions in underground detectors attracted much theoretical and experimental interest in the past few years. A still open question in this field is whether experimental results can in general be interpreted in a framework where the response of detector materials to an external DM probe is described by a single ionisation or crystal form factor, as expected for the so-called dark photon model. Here, ionisation and crystal form factors are examples of material response functions: interaction-specific integrals of the initial and final state electron wave functions. In this work, we address this question through a systematic classification of the material response functions induced by a wide range of models for spin-0, spin-1/2 and spin-1 DM. We find several examples for which an accurate description of the electronic transition rate at DM direct detection experiments requires material response functions that go beyond those expected for the dark photon model. This concretely illustrates the limitations of a framework that is entirely based on the standard ionisation and crystal form factors, and points towards the need for the general response-function-based formalism we pushed forward recently [1,2]. For the models that require non-standard atomic and crystal response functions, we use the response functions of [1,2] to calculate the DM-induced electronic transition rate in atomic and crystal detectors, and to present 90% confidence level exclusion limits on the strength of the DM-electron interaction from the null results reported by XENON10, XENON1T, EDELWEISS and SENSEI., Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, 2023 (3), ISSN:1475-7516

Diverse astrophysical observations suggest the existence of cold dark matter that interacts only gravitationally with radiation and ordinary baryonic matter. Any nonzero coupling between dark matter and baryons would provide a significant step towards understanding the particle nature of dark matter. Measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) provide constraints on such a coupling that complement laboratory searches. In this work we place upper limits on a variety of models for dark matter elastic scattering with protons and electrons by combining large-scale CMB data from the Planck satellite with small-scale information from Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) DR4 data. In the case of velocity-independent scattering, we obtain bounds on the interaction cross section for protons that are 40\% tighter than previous constraints from the CMB anisotropy. For some models with velocity-dependent scattering we find best-fitting cross sections with a 2$\sigma$ deviation from zero, but these scattering models are not statistically preferred over $\Lambda$CDM in terms of model selection., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

We extend the reach of the ``cosmological collider'' for massive gauge boson production during inflation from the CMB scales to the interferometer scales. Considering a Chern-Simons coupling between the gauge bosons and the pseudoscalar inflaton, one of the transverse gauge modes is efficiently produced and its inverse decay leaves an imprint in the primordial scalar and tensor perturbations. We study the correlation functions of these perturbations and derive the updated constraints on the parameter space from CMB observables. We then extrapolate the tensor power spectrum to smaller scales consistently taking into account the impact of the gauge field on inflationary dynamics. Our results show that the presence of massive gauge fields during inflation can be detected from characteristic gravitational wave signals encompassing the whole range of current and planned interferometers., Comment: 35 pages, 7 figures, references added, minor modification in gravitational wave sensitivity plots

The kinetic Sunyaev Zel'dovich (kSZ) and moving lens effects, secondary contributions to the cosmic microwave background (CMB), carry significant cosmological information due to their dependence on the large-scale peculiar velocity field. Previous work identified a promising means of extracting this cosmological information using a set of quadratic estimators for the radial and transverse components of the velocity field. These estimators are based on the statistically anisotropic components of the cross-correlation between the CMB and a tracer of large scale structure, such as a galaxy redshift survey. In this work, we assess the challenges to the program of velocity reconstruction posed by various foregrounds and systematics in the CMB and galaxy surveys, as well as biases in the quadratic estimators. To do so, we further develop the quadratic estimator formalism and implement a numerical code for computing properly correlated spectra for all the components of the CMB (primary/secondary blackbody components and foregrounds) and a photometric redshift survey, with associated redshift errors, to allow for accurate forecasting. We create a simulation framework for generating realizations of properly correlated CMB maps and redshift binned galaxy number counts, assuming the underlying fields are Gaussian, and use this to validate a velocity reconstruction pipeline and assess map-based systematics such as masking. We highlight the most significant challenges for velocity reconstruction, which include biases associated with: modelling errors, characterization of redshift errors, and coarse graining of cosmological fields on our past light cone. Despite these challenges, the outlook for velocity reconstruction is quite optimistic, and we use our reconstruction pipeline to confirm that these techniques will be feasible with near-term CMB experiments and photometric galaxy redshift surveys., Comment: 71 pages, 29 figures. I describe a method to estimate response matrices of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) lensing power spectra estimators to the true sky power under realistic conditions. Applicable to all lensing reconstruction pipelines based on quadratic estimators (QE), it uses a small number of Gaussian CMB Monte-Carlos and specially designed QE's in order to obtain sufficiently accurate matrices with little computational effort. This method may be used to improve the modelling of CMB lensing band-powers by incorporating at least some of the non-idealities encountered in CMB lensing reconstruction. These non-idealities always include masking, and often inhomogeneous filtering, either in the harmonic domain or pixel space. I obtain these matrices for Planck latest lensing reconstructions, and then show that the residual couplings induced by masking explain very well the residual multiplicative bias seen on the Planck simulations, removing the need for an empirical correction., Comment: Matches version accepted for publication in JCAP

We study the effects of velocity dispersion on the formation of primordial black holes~(PBHs) in a matter-dominated era. The velocity dispersion is generated through the nonlinear growth of perturbations and has the potential to impede the gravitational collapse and thereby the formation of PBHs. To make discussions clear, we consider two distinct length scales. The larger one is where gravitational collapse occurs which could lead to PBH formation, and the smaller one is where the velocity dispersion develops due to nonlinear interactions. We estimate the effect of the velocity dispersion on the PBH formation by comparing the free-fall timescale and the timescale for a particle to cross the collapsing region. As a demonstration, we consider a log-normal power spectrum for the initial density perturbation with the peak value $\sigma_0^2$ at a scale that corresponds to the larger scale. We find that the threshold value of the density perturbation $\tilde \delta_{\rm th}$ at the horizon entry for the PBH formation scales as $\tilde \delta_{\rm th}\propto \sigma_0^{2/5}$ for $\sigma_0\ll1$., Comment: 35 pages, 4 figures

We examine further the ability of the New Early Dark Energy model (NEDE) to resolve the current tension between the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and local measurements of $H_0$ and the consequences for inflation. We perform new Bayesian analyses, including the current datasets from the ground-based CMB telescopes Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT), the South Pole Telescope (SPT), and the BICEP/Keck telescopes, employing an updated likelihood for the local measurements coming from the S$H_0$ES collaboration. Using the S$H_0$ES prior on $H_0$, the combined analysis with Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO), Pantheon, Planck and ACT improves the best-fit by $\Delta\chi^2 = -15.9$ with respect to $\Lambda$CDM, favors a non-zero fractional contribution of NEDE, $f_{\rm NEDE} > 0$, by $4.8\sigma$, and gives a best-fit value for the Hubble constant of $H_0 = 72.09$ km/s/Mpc (mean $71.48_{-0.81}^{+0.79}$ with $68\%$ C.L.). A similar analysis using SPT instead of ACT yields consistent results with a $\Delta \chi^2 = - 23.1$ over $\Lambda$CDM, a preference for non-zero $f_{\rm NEDE}$ of $4.7\sigma$ and a best-fit value of $H_0=71.77$ km/s/Mpc (mean $71.43_{-0.84}^{+0.84}$ with $68\%$ C.L.). We also provide the constraints on the inflation parameters $r$ and $n_s$ coming from NEDE, including the BICEP/Keck 2018 data, and show that the allowed upper value on the tensor-scalar ratio is consistent with the $\Lambda$CDM bound, but, as also originally found, with a more blue scalar spectrum implying that the simplest curvaton model is now favored over the Starobinsky inflation model., Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures, 14 tables, Journal version -- updated all figures and text with minor changes, conclusions unchanged

We characterize the post-inflationary dynamics of an inflaton $\phi$ coupled to multiple interacting daughter fields $X_n$ ($n=1,\dots N_d$) through quadratic-quadratic interactions $g_n^ 2\phi^2 X_n^2$. We assume a monomial inflaton potential $V(\phi) \propto |\phi|^p$ ($p \geq 2$) around the minimum. By simulating the system in 2+1-dimensional lattices, we study the post-inflationary evolution of the energy distribution and equation of state, from the end of inflation until a stationary regime is achieved. We show that in this scenario, the energy transferred to the daughter field sector can be larger than $50\%$, surpassing this way the upper bound found previously for single daughter field models. In particular, for $p \geq 4$ the energy at very late times is equally distributed between all fields, and only $100/(N_d + 1) \%$ of the energy remains in the inflaton. We also consider scenarios in which the daughter fields have scale-free interactions $\lambda_{nm} X_n^2 X_m^2$, including the case of quartic daughter field self-interactions (for $n=m$). We show that these interactions trigger a resonance process during the non-linear regime, which in the single daughter field case already allows to deplete more than $50\%$ of the energy from the inflaton for $p\geq 4$., Comment: 23 pages + appendix, 15 figures
