A heteronuclear Tb-Al complex (1) was obtained by pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H2PDA), AlCl3 and Tb4O7 under hydrothermal condition. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that 1 is an ion-pair and consists of [Al(H2O)6]3+ cation and [Tb(PDA)3]3- anion; the [Al(H2O)6]3+ cations and [Tb(PDA)3]3- anions are further connected by hydrogen bonds to construct a 3D NaCl-like topology. Lattice water molecules in 1 fabricate a cubic (H2O)8-octamer by hydrogen bonds, which is located in the void of 1. Luminescent property indicates efficient energy transfer from PDA3- ligand to Tb3+ in 1, exhibiting the typical green emission of Tb3+ in the visible region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
