The article presents a discussion on parents' locus of control and perception of cause of children's problems. Locus of control refers to the degree to which a person perceives reinforcement as contingent upon his own behavior. Internal locus of control designates the belief that one's own actions influence events in the environment; external locus of control describes the belief that one's behavior is unrelated to the outcome of these events. The article focuses on parental locus of control and related child-rearing practices. It was predicated on the assumption that parents view the results of their own child-rearing practices in much the same way that they regard other activities in their lives, either as a product of skill or of chance.
