The aim of the study was proposing and validate the Parenting Practices Assessment Scale. Parenting practices play an important role in chilEscala de avaliaçãodren positive development, subjective wellbeing and global mental health. Measure parenting practices it is an important contribute to deeply understand this concept and its relation with children development. Was involved a sample of 2256 parents of 2256 children from 5th grade (48.8%) and 7th grade (51.2%), mean age 11.58 years old; SD 1.41; ranging from 10-16 (48,4% between 10 and 11 years of age and 51,6% 12 years or older); there were 46,2% boys and 53.8% girls. Through Principal Component Analyses were found two dimensions, one related to control and another linked to acceptance. Results related to psychometric properties showed adequate values. Additionally, items discriminating validity and concurrent validity were inspected with measures related to subjective wellbeing and dimensions of subjective wellbeing. This instrument seems to be adequate for the measurement Parenting Practices, and can be useful in several contexts, such as health psychology and family interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Substance use and misuse are very common in adolescence. School-based interventions have proven to be a useful approach to prevent adolescent substance use. Despite the advances made in the last three decades, empirical evidence about the effectiveness of prevention programs in schools is scarce. This article examines the results of a literature review on the evaluation of prevention programs in school environment to prevent the use of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and other illicit drugs. Based on systematic reviews, metaanalyzes and individual studies was identified a set of characteristics that are associated with the effectiveness of prevention programs for adolescents and youth. Specifically, effective prevention programs: 1) using strategies based on concepts of social influence and life skills; 2) involve high levels of interactivity; 3) are organized into multiple sessions; 4) include booster sessions. The differences in effectiveness depending on the type of agent implementation of the program seem to be influenced by other factors such as interactivity. The Surf Salva Camp 2016 project was developed in Cascais (Portugal) and aimed at promoting social inclusion, wellbeing and health, as well as developing beach security values and social citizenship in children and youth in foster care institutions, through surfing. Participants were 48 adolescents aged 10 to 16, selected from 4 foster institutions in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo district. The results suggest that intervention through surf had positive effects. Self-knowledge, exploration, effort and perseverance, problem solving, time management, group competencies, interpersonal relationships and emotional regulation had a positive evolution in the participants throughout the project. Families are the first social context and are of fundamental importance in the development and wellbeing of children and adolescents that is now a widely documented evidence. Parents influence their children by genetic inheritance and particularly by behavioral inheritance, modeling and parenting style. It is known that both neglectful parents as more overprotective, or authoritarian parents, or even worst abusive parents, can cause very negative consequences in the potential, development and wellbeing of children and adolescents. It is known that being a parent is a unique challenge due to the difficulty, but also in general, for the gratification. None is taught to be parents and, as Kundera said, the life of every day is both the " rehearsal" and the "performance" itself. It is known that in times of crisis, conflict, insecurity, children are multiply affected: directly by difficulties, by their attention to the concerns of parents, because parents do not have the same availability to them, because the parents are themselves affected, these effects can have dramatic effects on the daily life of the family. So what else can be said about families? What is the best way to include parents as partners in the activities of education, health and social security professionals, -being useful and effective while respecting the family cultures?
